Esmerlinda Garcia

MERCEDES, TX — Esmerlinda Garcia, 76, passed away Thursday at McAllen Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband Felipe Sandoval of Mercedes; a son Juan Jose (Dora L.) Garcia of Mercedes; two sisters Josefina Ovalle, Benita Ortiz both of Mercedes; numerous nieces and nephews; also surviving are three grandsons Johnny Joe Garcia, Jaime Garcia, & Ricardo Ribifl.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday Mar. 22, 2004 at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco.

Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Jimmy M. Pinkerton

MERCEDES, TEXAS — Jimmy M. Pinkerton, 72, entered into rest on March 18, 2004.

He is preceded by his parents, Benton and Dessa Pinkerton and one brother Billy Pinkerton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Liselotte Pinkerton, two children, Billy Pinkerton (Rosie) of Weslaco, and Heidi Pinkerton of San Antonio. He is also survived by one brother R.T Pinkerton of Long Beach, CA., four sisters; Susie Fiorenza of Binghamton, N.Y., Veda Freeman of Alamo, Texas, Milly Brack of College Station,  Texas, and Martha Didamo of Omaha, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be held today, Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 10:00am at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Mercedes. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to The American Cancer Society, The American Lung Association or to the charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Mercedes.

William George Trenfield

HARLINGEN, TX — On March 18, 2004, William George Trenfield (Bill) died in Harlingen, TX. Born on May 9, 1924, in Follett, TX. He lived in the Lower Rio Grande Valley in  Texas for the past 21 years. Before retiring there, he lived for 20 years in Muncie, IN, where he was a professor of Secondary Education at Ball State University. He earned his doctorate at  Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, where he lived for 8 years. He was raised on a ranch in the northern  Texas Panhandle near Follett, TX.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Zada Lee Trenfield (Debusk).

He is survived by all five of his children – Gail Joyner of Missoula, MT; Kathy Raines and Doug Trenfield of Brownsville, TX; Sandra Mink of Harlingen, TX; and Susan Burk of North Vernon, IN. He is also survived by three of his siblings – Charles Trenfield of Tulsa, OK; Frances Owens of Grapevine, TX; and Virginia Brigham of Lubbock, TX, and he is survived by nine grandchildren.

His family will have a private ceremony on March 21. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either Planned Parenthood of the Rio Grande Valley or to the Audobon Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston Blvd, San Benito, TX. (956)399-1331.

Julian Flores Jr.

Weslaco — Mr. Julian Flores Jr., 60, passed on to be with the lord on March 19, 2004. He was born in Weslaco, TX on November 27, 1943. Mr. Flores graduated from Weslaco High School in 1963. He earned a bachelor’s of arts degree from Pan American College with a minor in Business in 1972. He was a former teacher at Central Middle School.

Mr. Flores served as the First Hispanic Agriculture Inspector for Kern County in California. He was a successful entrepreneur. He owned and operated: Flores Insurance, Julian’s Fences, Flores Income Tax Service and his pride the Panther’s Den, Tiger’s Den and Cardinal’s Den. He was a former jaycee Member and past president of the Weslaco Mid Valley Lions Club. He also served on the Weslaco Parks and Recreation Board. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golf, politics, and tending to his ranch.

Mr. Flores was preceded in death by his father, Julian Flores Sr., in 1990.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Avelina R. Flores; sons Julian Javier, Jaime Abel Flores; daughter Cynthia Ann F. Villa; son in law, Omero Villa Jr.; daughter in law Cynthia R. Flores; mother, Maria V. Flores; sisters Guadalupe (Hector) Perez, Irma (Ruben Sr.) Vasquez, Esmeralda (Betty) De Los Santos, Rosalinda (Samuel) Grimaldo, Enedelia (Israel) Grimaldo; brother, Humberto Flores; granddaughters Jenny Flores, Julieza Flores; and numerous of nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Flores will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., today, March 21, 2004 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco with a 7 p.m. Rosary. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004 at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Pallbearers for Mr. Flores will be Omero Villa Jr., Rene Aguirre, Ruben Vasquez Jr., Rick Vasquez, Rene Vasquez, Eddie De Los Santos, Adrian Grimaldo, Ramiro Guzman, Albert Cavazos, and Guadalupe Gonzalez, Jaun Julian Grimaldo.

Mr. Flores honorary pallbearers will be the Members of the Weslaco Mid Valley Lions Club.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco.

Pauline Lenora Ayoub Fry

CORPUS CHRISTI/SAN BENITO — Pauline Lenora Ayoub Fry passed away in Corpus Christi on March 18, 2004, six days after her 80th birthday, after a lengthy illness. She was born at 307 S. Dowling Street in San Benito, TX to Emil and Mary Alkek Ayoub. Pauline’s parents were Lebanese immigrants and early pioneers in San Benito. She was the fourth of six children.

Pauline attended San Benito Schools and graduated from high school in 1941 where she was active in school organizations including being a featured soloist in Ed Hatchett’s Glee Club.

Her first job was selling tickets at the Rivoli Theater. Pauline used some of her $7.00 per week salary to install and pay the monthly bill on the family’s first telephone. After attending business school, she was employed at Atkin’s Insurance Agency until she moved to Corpus Christi to marry Wilson Fry, her longtime high school sweetheart, who was stationed at the Naval Air Station. They were married on base on March 17, 1944.

After the end of World War II, Pauline and Wilson moved back to San Benito and shortly thereafter bought a small frame home approximately one mile north of San Benito on Sam Houston Blvd. The Fry home was always a gathering place of all the family and friends. Thanksgiving was an annual event there with an abundance of Lebanese food as well as traditional fare.

Wilson and Pauline were good dancers and enjoyed dancing on many occasions. They passed on their love of dancing to their children by teaching them to dance at home.

Since the Frys lived in what was considered "the country" at that time, their modest home was a setting where the adults could sit out in the yard on hot summer afternoons and evenings while the children rode horses or fished in the resaca with Uncle Wilson, played games or explored the brush adjacent to the house.

Aunt Pauline was well known by the family for being an excellent cook. Her most popular dish was her fabulous fried chicken and delicious mashed potatoes. She also worked wonders with roundsteak, which was often chickenfried.

In 1960, she accepted employment by C. G. "Sonny" Wollitz at Oasis Water Co. She worked with her family friend, Louise Lanum until returning to Corpus Christi in 1969. While in Corpus Christi, she was employed at Memorial Medical Center until her retirement in 1986.

While living in Corpus Christi, the Frys acquired many friends. Many of her daughter’s and granddaughter’s friends referred to her as "Tite", a Lebanese term of endearment for grandmother.

Pauline Fry was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norman Wilson Fry, and her brothers, George, Jack, and Dave. In addition to her brothers, she was preceded in death by her loving and much beloved sisters-in-law, Alma, Virginia and Cleo.

Survivors include her son, Ben Fry of San Benito and daughter, Judy Wright of Corpus Christi. Pauline’s granddaughters include Paula (Sonny) Ryan, Amy Wright of Corpus Christi and Beth Fry of Denton, TX. "Tites" great-grandchildren are Christina, Tyler and Lee. Aunt Pauline is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister, Virginia (Jack) Burroughs of Sunnyvale, TX; her brother, Sam (Rachel) of Richmond, VA and by a special friend and caregiver, Rosie Mendez.

The family will be available for visitation at Thomae Funeral Home in San Benito on Sunday, March 21, 2004 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Mont Meta Cemetery on March 22, 2004 at 4 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers include her borther, Sam Ayoub, her cousins, George Ogdee, Ed Ogdee, her nephews Jack Ayoub, Andy Ayoub, Chuck Ayoub, Rodney Ayoub, Mike Ayoub, Johnny Ayoub, Dr. Jack Burroughs and Tim Burroughs.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to All Saints Episcopal Church in San Benito or the charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thomae Funeral Home.

Antonio "Tone" Rodriguez

SANTA ROSA — Antonio "Tone" G. Rodriguez age 64, was called home to join his children in Heaven March 19, 2004 at his residence. He was born July 23, 1939 to his parents, Molesto and Mercedes G. Rodriguez. Tone was a lifetime resident of Santa Rosa.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia T. Rodriguez and four children, Antonio Rodriguez Jr., Jaime Rodriguez and his wife Tomasa, Sonia Alaniz and her husband Gary and Rudy Rodriguez. Eight grandchildren, Jackie Alaniz, Valerie Alaniz,

Jaime Rodriguez Jr., Randy Rodriguez, Gary Alaniz Jr., Delilah Rodriguez, Gabriela Rodriguez and Jaymie Rodriguez.

He is preceded in death by three children, Sylvia, Mary and Riche Rodriguez; his parents, Molesto and Mercedes Rodriguez and two brothers, Matilde and Rafael Rodriguez.

Visitations will be held today Sunday March 21, 2004 at 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. with prayer of the Holy Rosary tonight at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass is tentatively scheduled for Monday March 22, 2004 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Cemetery, Sebastian.

Honorary pallbearers will be LCPL Jackie Alaniz and Jaime Rodriguez Jr. Pallbearers will be Gary Alaniz Sr., Rick Alaniz, Tony Saldana, Jesus Saldana, and Nathan Gonzalez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Santa Rosa Funeral Home.

Rolando Mares Sr.

SAN BENITO — Rolando Mares Sr., 49, passed away on March 13, 2004.

Survivors include his parents, Saturnino and Josefina Mares; sons, Rolando Mares Jr. and Reynaldo S. Mares; brothers, Ramiro Mares Sr. and Rene Mares Sr. and sister, Rosie Mares. Also surviving him are two grandchildren, 8 nephews and nieces, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, March 21, 2004 with a prayer service to begin at 7 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Chapel. Chapel services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2004 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Rolando Mares Jr., Reynaldo S. Mares, Eric D. Mares, Rene Mares Jr., Ramiro Mares Sr. and Antonio Rodriguez Sr.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito, 956-399-1331.

George Maley

HARLINGEN — George Maley, 88, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2003 at a local nursing center in Harlingen, TX. George was born in Southfork, PA on January 27, 1916. He retired from the North American Rockwell Corp. with the Aerospace Dept. several years ago. He was a former resident of California and had resided in Harlingen since 1995 at the Camelot Retirement Community.

Survivors include daughter, Pam (Ron) Williams of Boston, MA; son, Steve (Ninfa) Maley of Harlingen; grandsons, Chris Maley, James Maley, Robert Maley, and Eric Jerskey; granddaughters, Jamie Pena and Brittany Williams; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Rae Maley; brother, John Molesky of Dearborn, MI.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Maley in 2001.

Graveside services only will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2004.

The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Palms Medical Center and Dr. Minor for all their care and concern shown to George and his family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Mary Jordan

Rowlet, TX/Combes — Mary Jordan, age 90, passed away March 19, 2004, in Rowlett, TX. She was born September 18, 1913, in Lawton, OK, to Judson and Alice (Woods) Sosebee. She was a longtime resident of Combes, TX, where she was a member of First Baptist Church and a life member of the James H. Dishman P.T.A. She had since lived 3 years with her son, Alton, in Austin, TX, and 3 years with her daughter, Jacque, in Rowlett, TX.

Mary is survived by sons, Alton Killion and wife, Billie Kay of Austin, TX, and James Jordan and wife, Carol of Lumberton, TX; daughter, Jacque McDonald and husband, Randy of Rowlett, TX; sisters, Ida Mustain of Corpus Christi, TX, and Betty Sharp of  Oklahoma; brother, Oscar Sosebee and wife Mary Lou of Arlington, TX; sisters-in-law, Nora Kibler of Bedford, TX, and Jean Jordan of San Marcos, TX; grandchildren, Donna, Rhonda, Patricia, Gary, Jayme, Meghan, Shea and Ty; 21 great-grand-children; 13 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John H. Jordan, parents, sister, Effie and brother, Billy.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Combes, TX, with Pastor Ron Corzine and Pastor Bob Cole officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Laferia, TX.
