Leonard Cook
HARLINGEN, TX — Leonard Cook, 80, passed away Friday, March 12, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Leonard was born March 17, 1923 in Iowa Park, Texas to Maurice and Iva Irene Cook. He retired from military Civil Service after many years of service.
He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #439 in La Feria, TX.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 18, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Buck Ashcrsft Funeral Home.
Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #205 and V.F.W. Post #2410.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Alfredo Lopez
SANTA ROSA, TX — Alfredo "Boogie" Lopez, age 65, passed away Tuesday March 16, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
He was born July 16, 1938 in Santa Rosa, Texas where he resided all his life. He worked at Knapp Chevrolet for 31 years.
He is preceded in death by his mother Marcelina Lopez, father Toribio Lopez and a brother Heliodoro Lopez.
He is survived by 3 children Leticia Lopez, Nora Lisa Sylvester (Steve), and Alfredo Lopez Jr. Brothers Juan Lopez (Sylvia), Lucio Lopez (Olivia). Sisters Elida Hinojosa (Raul), Lucia Moreno (Lorenzo), and Adelaida Lopez.
Also surviving are 6 grandchildren: Raul Aguilar Jr., Michael Castañeda, Joshua Castañeda, Steve Sylvesteo Jr., Amber Lopez, Savanah Sylvester and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday March 17, 2004 from 9 am to 9 pm with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Mass of christian burial will be held at 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday March 18, 2004. Burial will follow to Restlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Michael Castañeda, Joshua Castañeda, Raul Aguilar Jr., Rene Lopez, Steven Sylvester Jr., Aaron Hinojosa, Roel Lopez, Javier Lopez.
Arrangements will be under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel 1217 South F. Street Harlingen, Tx.
Dionicio Casas, Jr.
MERCEDES, TX — Dionicio Casas, Jr., entered into rest on March 17, 2004.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dionicio, Sr. and Mariana Casas and two brothers Eugenio Casas and Raul Casas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Delia Villanueva Casas, seven children; Guadalupe Casas (Juanita) of Corpus Christi, Jose Daniel Casas (Delia) of Donna, Mariana Hudson (Dennis) of Alabama, Maria Meza (Rene) of Mercedes, Corina Garcia (Aroldo) of Mercedes, Norma Cynthia Casas of Mercedes and Dionicio Casas, III of Mercedes. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, four sisters, Maria Casas of Mercedes, Florinda Casas of Mercedes, Concepcion Casas Rio Bravo, Guadalupe Casas of Weslaco and one brother Estanislado Casas of Monte Morelos.
Visitation will be held today, March 18, 2004 from 10am until 9pm with a rosary at 7pm at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Mercedes. The funeral will depart the funeral home on Friday, March 19, 2004 at 1:30pm for a 2pm Mass of Christian burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Chruch in Mercedes with Deacon Robert Cantu officiating.
Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Weslaco.
Pallbearers will be Jose Daniel Casas, Jr., Marc Anthony Del Rio, Paul Meza, Baudelio Ramirez, Jose Luis Ramirez, and Aroldo Garcia. Honorary pallbearer will be Desirae Rincones.

Carlos Torrez
SAN BENITO, TX — Carlos Torrez, 76, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
He was born August 26, 1927 in San Benito, Texas. He lived in San Benito for 35 years. He was a retired U.S. Marine and was very proud of serving his country.
He is survived by former spouse; Junko Torrez; children; Carlos Torrez Jr., Mary Boyd, Helena Panteleo, and George Torrez; sisters; Aurora Olvera & Lilly Avete and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at San Benito Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2004.
Services will be held at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2004. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Nancy Catherine Quates
HARLINGEN, TX — Nancy Catherine McNeal Oates Quate, age 81, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, March 16, 2004.
She was a patient at Valley Baptist Medical Center and was a resident of the Golden Palms Nursing Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Born on July 31, 1922, in Bailey, Texas to Alonzo James McNeal and to Donnie Lee Kidwell McNeal, she attended school there and graduated as the valedictorian of her class at Bailey High School.
Nancy Catherine lived in Grand Prairie for most of her life where she retired from LTV in Grand Prairie after more than 30 years of service.
She has been a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Grand Prairie for over 40 years.
She loved her family more than anything else and spent all her time with them and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Donald James McNeal, and by two husbands, Robert Daniel Oates and Jess W. Quate.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana Oates Graham and son-in-law, Pat, in Harlingen, TX Sons; Donald J. Quate and daughter-in-law, Suzette, of Arlington, TX, David W. Quate and Michael L. Quate and daughter-in-law, Sharon, all of Grand Prairie, TX. Grandchildren are: Angela, Brandon, and Matt Quate, all of Grand Prairie, TX, and Jennifer and Susan Graham, in Harlingen, TX.
She is survived by her sisters Charlene Ellis and Helen Pankey and by three sister-in-laws, Joyce Hutton, Vern Baker, and Arbena Weakley.
She had numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her.
A service will be held on Thursday afternoon, March 18th at 4:00 p.m. at the Bean Massey, Burge Funeral Home on Dalworth Street in Grand Prairie, TX with family visitation to follow from 7-9 p.m.
Interment will be on Friday morning, March 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Dallas Fort-Worth National Cemetery, Dallas.

Richard N. Glasgow
LOS FRESNOS, TX — Richard N. Glasgow, 72, of Los Fresnos, born in Belle Plain, Iowa on June 27, 1931 passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his wife, sons, and a beloved family friend Wally Cisneros.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and Phyllis M Swan Glasgow.
Richard leaves behind a loving wife, Phyllis W. Glasgow; his children: Madonna L., Neil P., Richard S., sibling and spouses; Robert T. and Ilda, John M. and Nancy, Terrance Winter (Martha), Linda Fetters (Tom), Judy Valley (Ed); Grandchildren: Sean P., Jessica B., and Thomas G. Glasgow.

Jimmy M. Pinkerton
MERCEDES, TX — Jimmy M. Pinkerton, 72, entered into rest on March 18, 2004.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Benton and Dessa Pinkerton and one brother Billy Pinkerton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Liselotte Pinkerton, two children, Billy Pinkerton (Rosie) of Weslaco, and Heidi Pinkerton of San Antonio.
He is also survived by one brother R.T Pinkerton of Long Beach, CA., four sisters; Susie Fiorenza of Binghamton, N.Y., Veda Freeman of Alamo, Texas, Milly Brack of College Station, Texas, and Martha Didamo of Omaha, Nebraska.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 10:00am at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Mercedes.

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Maria Martinez Betancourt, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at her home in Raymondvile, TX.
She was born August 14, 1920 in Yorktown, Texas to Martin & Luisa (Rodriguez) Martinez. She lived in Willacy County all her life.
A rosary will be held Friday 7:00 P.M., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Funeral service will be held Saturday 10:30 A.M., March 20th, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Narcy (Eduardo) Zamorano and Petra (Chris) Ramirez all of Raymondville; one son, Julian, Jr. (Mary) Betancourt of Raymondville; four sisters, Carolina Moreno, Teodora Moreno and Isabel Vitela all of Raymondville and Luisa Castaneda of Houston; one brother, Martin Martinez, Jr. of Houston. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Pedro Cardenas
HARLINGEN, TX — Pedro Cardenas, 64, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, March 17, 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Juana Cardenas; son, Pedro (Norma) Cardenas, Jr.; daughter, Emily (Israel) Flores; six sisters, Esperanza Rodriguez from California, Lourdes Rosales from Mexico, Paula Champion from Pharr, Hermelinda Cardenas from Pharr, Lecha Daniel from Mexico, Ancelma Gonzalez from San Benito; two brothers, Jose Angel Cardenas and Antonio Cardenas, both from Mexico; and three grandchildren.
Pedro is preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Members of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Edwin Lee Baumgartner
HARLINGEN, TX — Edwin Lee Baumgartner, 50, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2004 at his home in Harlingen, TX. Mr. Baumgartner was a member for many years as a missionary in Peru, Nicaragua and Haitie. Memorials may be made to the key encounter.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Baumgartner of Harlingen; his mother, Irene Baumgartner of College Place, wash; four daughters, Ruth Pryce (Elwyn) Orea of Dallas, Belissa White (Edward) Hill of Omaha, Neb, Gabriela Baumgartner and Luisa Baumbartner both of Harlingen; one son, Henry Baumgartner of College Place, Wash; two brothers, Michael Paul Baumgartner of Molalla, Oregon and Monte Baumgartner of Seaside, Oregon. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held Sunday 3:00 p.m., March 21st, at the First Presbyterian Church in Harlingen with Pastor Christman and Pastor Kennedy officiating.

Angelita Reyna
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Angelita Reyna, 47, passed away Friday, March 19, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.
She was born August 2, 1956 in Raymondville, Texas. She was the youngest child born to Belen Cano and Juan Reyna now both deceased.
Angie, is survived by her four brothers, Domingo (Josie) Reyna of San Angelo, Juan (Maria Elena) Reyna of Lyford, Arturo (Yolanda) Reyna of Arkansas and Isidro (Deya) Reyna of Minnesota; four sisters, Bertha Tafolla of Donna, Beatriz Delgado of Raymondville, Santos (Jesus) Martinez of Dallas and Belia (Esteban) Villarreal of Raymondville.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Reyna.
She is also survived by honorable friends, Diana Williams, Abby Gonzales, Sylvia Galvan and Many nieces and nephews.
Angie graduated from Raymondville High School, from TSTC earning an Associate Degree in the Culinary Arts and from Pan Am in 1993 earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. Angie, worked for TDHS-Child Welfare, Alzheimer’s Association, Americorp and the Red Cross.
Angie’s greatest love was the people she served as an employee and volunteer of the Red Cross.
During the September 11th, tragedy she was assigned to answer the phones via the Dallas Center where she counselled the victim’s families. She returned home and went straight to her next assignment at Port Isabel-after the tragic bridge accident.
The Lord needed Angie in heaven-so he reached down and took her home. On earth she lives on in the hearts of those she touched …. And in heaven with the almighty father in whom she believed in, loved and trusted.
A memorial service will be held Sunday 10:00 A.M., March 21st, at Duddlesten Chapel.
