HARLINGEN, TX — Maria Castillo, 83, passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center on Monday, February 2, 2004.
She is survived by one son, Noe Serna of Lima, Ohio; and three brothers, Jose Rodriguez, Thomas Rodriguez, and Santiago Rodriguez, all of Harlingen.
She is preceeded in death by her husband, Francisco Castillo; parents, Genovevo and Gregoria Castillo; and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held at Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home from 12-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2004.
A Chapel Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2004, and interment to follow at Combes Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home.
Alberto A. Banuelos
SAN BENITO, TX —Alberto A. Banuelos, 66, passed away on February 5, 2004.
Survived by wife, Hilda Banuelos; 6 children; 9 grandchildren; 1 brother and 4 sisters.
Preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2004 at San Benito Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 7, 2004 at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. with interment at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Albert Solis, Sr.
LA FERIA / MERCEDES, TX — Albert Solis, Sr., passed away Wednesday at Memorial Hermann Hospital S.E. in Houston.
Mr. Solis is survived by his son, Albert Solis, Jr. of Pearland; two daughters, Cynthia Tunello of League City and Katherine Cloud of Los Fresnos; one sister, Tommie Brown of Mercedes; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Solis Cemetery in La Feria; with military rites under the auspices of JROTC of Mercedes High School.
Arrangements are under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.
Leola T. Flowers
HARLINGEN, TX — Sister Leola Threadgill-Flowers was born in Harlingen, Texas, March 26, 1938 to William and Georgia Threadgill.
She married John Leonard Flowers, Sr. on August 13, 1955. After a lengthy illness, she went on to be with her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2004. Her husband, father, twin sister, Viola, brothers, Wilbert, Lemuel, and Herman preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory and great legacy: mother, Georgia Threadgill; sisters, Anna B. (James) Henderson, and Mary Smith; brothers, Arthur (Princeola) Threadgill, Freddie Lee Threadgill; sister-in-law, Ora Lee Threadgill; children, Paula Flowers, Gerald (Rose) Flowers, William (Rita) Flowers; and forty-six grand and great grandchildren.
During her lifetime, Leola was an executive chef at the Sheraton Harlingen Inn, and worked for Luby’s Cafeteria for many years. She was a loving, doting mother, and grandmother equally proud of her children and all children who found themselves in her care. She was a faithful member of the Corinth Baptist Church in Harlingen, TX and she would read her Bible through the first three months of the year. Her favorite saying was "The race is not given to the swift and neither the battle to the strong Ecc:9:11, but to those who endure to the end Matt: 24:13". These combined scriptures formed a Bible truth for encouraging others to stay in the race for eternal life, and keep on fighting the good fight of faith for there was a just reward awaiting all who endured to the end. This is her living legacy that speaks to us today.
Mommy, we will always love you, and you will continue to guide us, as we are your living legacy. Your thankful and loving family.
Visitation hours will be held Friday, February 6, 2004 from noon to 9 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with Rev. C.D. Flowers officiating. Burial will follow in Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.

Margaret L. Gerdes
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX — Margaret L. Gerdes, 63, of South Padre Island entered into eternal rest on February 5, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Anyone who knew Margaret felt her warm and caring nature. Her presence will be greatly missed by family and friends and her "Lunch Bunch".
After raising her family she became active in the family business acting as Vice-President of Metro Elec. Inc., Vice-President of M & J Leasing Inc., Board member of Gladys Porter Zoo, and past member of the ladies auxiliary of Independent Electrical Contractors.
Margaret loved fishing, being with her grandchildren, and Las Vegas.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae Braden and by her father, George S. Braden.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jack L. Gerdes of South Padre Island; son, Michael A. (Veda) Gerdes; and daughter, Faith L. (Bill) Walter both of Mission, TX; 4 grandchildren, Derek Gerdes, David Gerdes, Allison Walter and Connor Walter; 2 sisters, Ann (Allen) Brown of Victoria, TX and Fay (John) Konvichka of Hallettsville, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today, Friday, February 6, 2004, at 1 p.m., with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.
Family will be greeting from 5 – 7 p.m., in the Darling-Mouser Chapel.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2004, at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 1509 Longoria, Port Isabel, TX with burial to follow at Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito, TX.

Paul Alfred Walkup
LITCHFIELD, MI — Paul Alfred Walkup, 84, of Litchfield, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at home. He was born April 2, 1919 in Waldron, Michigan and graduated from Waldron High School 1939.
Paul served in the US Navy during W W II and belonged to the American Legion and the Franklin Masonic Lodge, Litchfield. He was a retired rural mail carrier and a member of the Rural Carriers Association.
In 1940 he married Ketha (Nelligan) and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Connie (Dan) Bills, Litchfield; 2 sons, Bob (Iris) Walkup, Roscommon, and Jon (Joyce) Walkup, Deckerville; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were 8 brothers and 1 great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at the George White Funeral Home, Litchfield, with Reverend Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, including a Masonic Service of Remembrance at 5 p.m.

R.H. "Howard" Neumayer
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — R.H. "Howard" Neumayer, was born October 25, 1909 at Bigelow, KS. He died at the age of 94 at Retama Manor Nusring Home in Raymondville on January 31, 2003.
He is survived by his private nurse and wife, Wilma; one son, Jon (Dee) Neumayer of Council Grove, KS; one daughter, Vicki (David) Shewmaker of San Perlita; two sisters, Anita Hall of Eureka, KS, and Doris Moore of Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren, Rhonda, Ronnie, Renae, Robert, Deb, Troy and Ryan. They are all special and live in Oklahoma City and Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, R.C. and Hazel Neumayer; one sister, Marjorie Andrews of Cassoday, KS; one brother, Vernon Neumayer of Eldorado, KS. Also survived by nieces and nephews in Kansas and Missouri and many many friends.
R.H. grew up on the farm SW of Madison, KS helping his daddy farm. In 1936 he went to work at a gasoline plant cities service (Citgo) at Seeley South West of Madison, KS.
In 1939 he met and married Wilma Frazier Neumayer. They lived in Illinois, Indiana, back to Wichita, KS.
Then Haven and Burton, KS, then Pampa, Texas over to Oklahoma City, Blackwell, then he retired to go back to help take care of his parents till they passed away 1961-62.
Then he was hired on at Madison School as janitor and bus driver. Then 1978 he and his wife were hired at Wichita, KS to manage a mobile home park at Enid, OK.
They were there 11 years. In 1989 he decided to retire for the 3rd time again at 80 years old. They moved to the Rio Grande Valley to be close to their daughter Vicki Shewmaker and family. For many years at Madison daddy was the Santa Claus for the school and the city.
Howard always made and helped friends wherever we went like loaning his car or money, whatever they needed. He will be missed by all.
We were always amazed at how daddy never met a stranger. He could talk to anyone and always laughed a lot. He always had a joke, or three, even for the doctors and nurses.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or charity of choice.
Howard was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Madison, KS.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., February 7, 2004 at Duddlesten Funeral Home. Later he will be buried at Blakeley Cemetery at Madison, KS.

Ramon Tanguma, Sr.
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Ramon Tanguma, Sr., 67, went to be with the Lord on February 5, 2004.
Ramon was born in San Juan, Texas on November 3, 1936 to Hipolito Tanguma and Senovia A. Tanguma.
He worked with the City of Raymondville for 10 years, but his pride and joy was the 18 years spent working for Frank Bell Farms. For 5 years he was a member of the First Assembly of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, (Pedro Tanguma); and one sister, (Manuela Asudes).
Ramon is survived by two brothers, (Presciliano Tanguma and Porfirio Tanguma from McKinney, TX; 4 sisters, Carmen Najera, Maria Tamez, Virginia Tanguma and Aurora Tagle. He is also survived by his loving wife, Maria Perez Tanguma and 7 children, Ramon Tanguma Jr., Maria I. (Irene) Enchavarria, Jesus (Yesenia) Tanguma, Rebecca (Johnny) Ramos, Senovia (Jose Jr.) Nava, Jose Luis (Rosa) Tanguma, Joanna (Gary) Fraiser; 24 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2004 at 10 a.m. in the Duddlesten Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Izabella Belen Jefferies Lopez, 9 ˝ months of age, entered the kingdom of Our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 in Pflugerville, TX. She was born in Brownsville, Texas on April 16, 2003.
She is survived by parents, Leonel V. Lopez, Pflugerville, TX and Diana L. Jefferies, Pflugerville, TX; brother, Reilly Jefferies Lopez, Pflugerville, TX; paternal grandparents, Eloy and Francis Lopez, Lozano, TX; maternal grandparents, William Jefferies, Port Isabel, TX and Esther Jefferies, Brownsville, TX; maternal great grandmother, Esther G. Limon, Brownsville, TX; paternal uncle, Eloy (Tisha) V. Lopez, Abilene, TX; paternal aunt, Lilia (David) Lopez Crane, Sangus, California; maternal aunt, Dylbia (Albert M.) Jefferies Vega of San Benito, TX; maternal aunt, Irma Jefferies (Olin Buchanan) Pflugerville, TX; cousins, Madison Crane, Aiden Vega, Quinn Buchanan, and numerous and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her cousin, Dylan Albert Vega.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, eveining at 7 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Center, located at 2855 Paredes Line Rd. in Brownsville, Texas. Officiant will be Abelardo Limon, cremation will follow.
