Floyd Wayne Carrell

LOS FRESNOS, TX — Floyd Wayne Carrell, born in San Benito, TX, October 15, 1952, is resting in heaven after his battle with cancer that ended on January 27, 2004.

He will be dearly missed and loved by family and friends. Floyd was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3108.

Floyd is survived by wife, Cinda of Garland, TX; children, Tammy of Garland, TX and Floyd Wayne, Jr., of Rowlette, TX; parents, JW and Evelyn Carrell of Los Fresnos, TX; sisters, Ruth Anne Cole and husband, Dr. Charles (Buster) of Columbus, TX; Linda Kay Ashley and husband, Jim of Springfield, OR; Janet Patton and husband, George of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Nancy Bolt and husband, Tom of Port Neches, TX; brothers, Buddy and wife, Pelma of Los Fresnos, TX and L.C. and wife, Eva of Chilton, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were held Friday, January 30, 2004, at Eastgate Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Cross officiating. Burial was at Grove Hill Memorial Park.

A Memorial Service will be held February 10, 2004 at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Los Fresnos, TX, Arroyo Blvd.

Guadalupe B. Hernandez

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Guadalupe B. Hernandez, 99, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.

He moved to Raymondville from Norias in 1975.

A rosary will be held Wednesday 7 p.m., at Duddlesten Chapel.

Funeral service will be held Thursday 10 a.m., February 5th, 2004 at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Burial will follow at the Lyford Evergreen Cemetery.

He is survived by three sons, Francisco Agustin (Enriqueta) Hernandez of Mont Clare, CA, Heriberto (Olivia) Hernandez of Brownsville and Gavino (Lupita) Hernandez of Sarita; three daughters, Eulalia (Jose Maria) Hernandez of San Perlita, Sofia (Gilbert) Tamez of Rock Port, TX and Maria Perla (Jose) Cruz of Diboll, TX; one sister, Maria Cortinas of Raymondville. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 24 great great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by Yolanda Lopez, Guadalupe Hernandez, Jr. and Ramona Solis; son-in-law, Bonifacio Lopez; two brothers and his parents.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Esther M. Hartman

HARLINGEN, TX — Esther M. Hartman, 87, passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center, Monday, February 2, 2004. Esther was born in Falls City, Nebraska on May 1, 1916.

She has been a resident of Harlingen since 1989, coming from Falls City, Nebraska. Esther and her husband owned Hartman Feed and Seed; and Liquid Fertilizer Service in Falls City, Nebraska. She was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in San Benito, TX.

Esther is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Eldon) Carmine and Betsy Kercher both of Harlingen, TX; son, Edward (Sandra) Hartman of Falls City, Nebraska; six grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hartman and daughter, Marjorie R. Jones.

No local services will be held.

Funeral services will be held in Falls City, Nebraska.

For those desiring to do so, memorials may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church in San Benito.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Carlos E. Garza

HARLINGEN, TX — Carlos Efrain (Paein) Garza, 53, passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center on Saturday, January 31, 2004.

He is survived by one son, Carlos Garza, Jr. and four sisters, Aurora Flores of Pasadena, Norma Linda (Cesario) Sanchez of Combes, Rosa Linda Del Rio of Harlingen, and Irma (Andres) Galan of Twin Falls, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Cruz Garza; brothers, Jose Garza, Jr., and Israel Garza.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 4, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Alphonsus McHugh, SS.CC. as Celebrant.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home.

Lt. Col. Charles Blanchard

HARLINGEN, TX — Lt. Col. Charles James (Jim) Blanchard was born June 30, 1921 to Francis M. and Maude Blanchard in Red Rock, Ok.

He entered into eternal rest on February 2, 2004, at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1939 and retired as Lt. Col. in the Air Force after serving his country for 27 ½ years, which included World War II, the Korean War, and the  Vietnam War.

Col. Blanchard served his country as a hospital Executive Office at the Harlingen Air Force Base and bases around the world, including France, Japan, Hawaii, Iceland, Virginia, Michigan, Florida, Missouri,  Oklahoma and  Texas. Col. Blanchard received many medals and commendations during his military career, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, AF Longevity Service Award and United Nations Service Medal among the many. He served, loved and stood by his country to the end.

Col. Blanchard met his loving wife, Della Malone, of 63 years, when they were children and their families were farming neighbors. They married on May 14, 1941, in Tulsa, OK. He was a dedicated and devoted family man loving to help and spend time with his wife, daughter, grandsons and great granddaughters. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling the U.S., Canada, and Mexico with his wife in their air stream trailer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, painting, and collectiing and restoring old antique tractors. For the past 20 years he enjoyed working on his daughter’s farm taking care of the cattle and cutting and balling hay.

He also enjoyed drinking coffee every morning at Las Vegas Café with his many farming buddies.

Col. Blanchard was a member of the Rio Grande Valley Art League, VFW, American Legion, Harlingen Elks Lodge, and a charter member of the RGV Antique Farm Machinry Assoc.

He is survived by his wife, Della Malone Blanchard; daughter, Phyllis Fitting; grandsons, Larry and Troy Fitting; great granddaughters, Hailey and Cassie Fitting all of Harlingen; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Uribe, Tulsa, OK, Micki Colvin, South Haven, MS; brother-in-law, Virgil Malone, Fairfax, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 3 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2004, with the Rev. Mel Justice officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Williams, Bob Allen, Bert Allen, Tom Bryant, John David Osborne, and Wayne Borchardt.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association and or the American Diabetes Association.

Visitation hours will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, February 5, 2004.

Eustolia Villarreal

SANTA MARIA, TX — Eustolia Villarreal, 88, passed away February 3, 2004 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.

She is survived by two nieces, Ofelia Yzaguirre of Santa Maria and Alicia Perez of Weslaco.

Also surviving is one brother, Eloy Villarreal of Santa Maria; and one sister, Elfidia Palomares of Harlingen.

A rosary was recited at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Ann Catholic Church in Santa Maria with burial following at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park in La Feria under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Ella Helen Wizorek

RIO HONDO, TX — Ella Helen Wizorek, 94 passed away Tuesday night, February 3, 2004.

Ella was born to Freida and Joe Pacha on February 8, 1909 in Bartlett,  Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim Wizorek; and 3 brothers, Albert, Joe, and Walter.

Ella is survived by one brother, Leroy (Adeline) Pacha of Bartlett,  Texas; one sister-in-law, Laura Dolezalek of Collinsville,  Texas. Ella married Jim Wizorek in 1929. She is also survived by one son, Walter (Jean) Wizorek of Rio Hondo, TX; 3 daughters, Merle (Jim) Adair of Dublin, TX, Shirley Howarton of Palestine, TX, and Dorothy (Ernie) Hull of Grandbury, TX.

She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.

Ella and Jime lived in the Rio Hondo area for several years, where they were involved in the farming industry. They moved to Port Lavaca, and after the death of Jim, Ella moved to Palestine, TX. She had been a resident of the Harlingen Nursing Center, until her death.

Many thanks to those wonderful people at the Harlingen Nursing Center for taking good care of Ella.

Ella was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Her grandsons and great grandsons will be the honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will begin on Friday, February 6, 2004 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the North Chapel, and the funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Will Aten officiating,

Interment will take place on Monday, February 9, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Port Lavaca,  Texas.

George "Philip" Snapka

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Becky; and his children; daughter, Cheryl Clark and her husband, Bob, of Rio Rancho, NM, daughter, Robin Weingand and husband, Dwayne, of Orange, TX, son, Greg Snapka and wife, Cindy, of Albuquerque, NM, daughter, Audrey Sullivan and husband, Daniel, of Ramstein, Germany.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Josh, Leslie, Trenton, Stephanie, Matt, Adam, Joseph, Brittany, Jordan, Matthew, Kristin, Audrey Lynn, Jolene; a brother, Gary Snapka; a sister, Kay Grubbs; a soul brother, Bob Wylie, and many numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Brian A.

Cremation has taken place. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2004, at 7 p.m. and a memorial Mass will take place on Friday, February 6, 2004, at 2 p.m., both at the Church of the Risen Savior.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in Philip’s name.

Leona Gragg

LA FERIA, TX — Leona May Gragg, 87, of La Feria, TX, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004, in Harlingen Medical Center, Harlingen, TX. Born in the Rosemont Community of Melvern, KS, October 4, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Chester E. and Nellie Reeder Boyer.

Mrs. Gragg graduated from Melvern High School in the Class of 1934, she was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star, a member of the Young Matrons Club, Tequa Aid-Home Demonstration Unit, and Melvern Friday Morning Women’s Church Group.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Verlin B. Gragg.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Dennis and Glenda Gragg of Concord, VA; two daughters and their husbands, Sharon E. and John Gulyban of Donna, TX and Sheila S. and Bud O’Rear of La Feria, TX; 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren; one great great great granddaughter and special friend, Lamar Bland of La Feria, TX.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2004, at Melvern United Methodist Church by the Rev. Duane Kessler with burial following in the Melvern Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at  Jones Funeral Home, Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Those wishing to make memorials please consider the Melvern High School Alumn Association, the American Heart Association, or Melvern United Methodist Church.

Local memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Linda G. Williams

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Linda G. Williams, our beloved daughter, sister and aunt went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the age of 56 years. She was born to Lewis D. and Mildred I. (Ballard) Williams on June 9, 1947 in Wichita Falls,  Texas.

She is preceded in death by her nephew, Daniel Wayne Boren.

Survivors include her loving parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Harvey Schwarz and Mary and Jim Lane; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Jo Williams; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other loving family members and friends.

She was a 1965 graduate of Harlingen High School.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2004 at 3:00 p.m., at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio with Rev. John Payne officiating. Interment will follow services in Mission Burial Park South.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, 1700 S. E. military Dr., 924-4242.
