RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Guadalupe G. Ramirez, 76, passed away Monday, September 22, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Guadalupe was born January 12, 1927 in Abram, Texas to Antonio and Elena (Gonzales) Guzman.
She is survived by four daugthers, Alicia (Vicente) Ramos of Raymondville, Anita (Juan) Cantu of Raymondville, Amalia (Fernando) Garcia of Abeline and Aurora (Ricardo) Rojas of Raymondville; three sons, Adolfo (Petra) Ramirez of Raymondville, Armando (Carolina) Ramirez of Hermastead, Washington, and Amadeo (Raquel) Ramirez of Raymondville; sisters, Nazaria Mercado of Austin, Dominga Mercado of Mission, Aurora Rodriguez of Kingsville, Julia Guzman of Raymondville; and sister, Angelita Guzman FMA of San Benito; 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
A Rosary will be held tonight Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at 7 p.m. in the Duddlesten Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 25, 2003, 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Raymondville, Texas. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Esperanza V. Garcia
BLUETOWN, TX — Esperanza V. Garcia, 86, passed away Tuesday morning at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
She is survived by her daughter, Socorro (Isabel) Morales of Santa Maria; her son, Ernesto (Oralia) Garcia of Bluetown; also surviving are 10 grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandson; and a half-sister, Isidra Zuniga of Reynosa, Tamps., Mexico.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at Bluetown Catholic Church. Burial will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. at Panteon Ejido Soliseno Tamps., Mexico.
Arrangements are under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.
Guadalupe Garza
HARLINGEN, TX — Guadalupe Garza, 76, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Gardening was his life and was employed with Pletcher’s Wholesale Nursery for over 30 years.
He is survived by five daughters and three sons, Raquel, Harlingen; Gloria (Carlos) Martinez, Houston; Guadalupe, Jr. (Elaine), California; Ruben (Maria), Houston; Oscar (Lydia); Ester; Alicia Mancillas; and Rebecca (Robert) Selvera all from Harlingen; 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Guadalupe is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucia Lopez; his son, Telesforo; and daughter, Hortencia Garza.
Pallbearers will be Oscar Garza, Sr., Oscar Garza, Jr., Ruben Garza, Porfirio Mancillas, Jr., Raquel Mancillas, and Robert Selvera. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2003, at Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home with a rosary to be held at 7 p.m.
Rev. Alphonsus McHugh, SS.CC, will officiate Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harlingen on Friday, September 26, 2003. Interment to follow at Ashland Memorial Park.

RIO HONDO, TX — Juan M. Alaniz, 51, of Rio Hondo, Texas passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center on September 25, 2003.
Mr. Alaniz was a lifetime resident of Rio Hondo – Lozano area and member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include: daughter, Tessa (Fred Lopez) Alaniz of Dallas, TX; son, John Joseph Alaniz of Rio Hondo, TX; former wife of 20 years, Lusila Ortega of Rio Hondo, TX; 3 brothers, Lupe (Minnie) Alaniz of Rio Hondo, TX, Rudy (Emilio Gomez) Alaniz of Harlingen, TX, and Rolando (Elvira) Alaniz of Rio Hondo, TX; 4 sisters, Gloria (Albert) Macias of Rio Hondo, TX, Sylvia Alaniz of Rio Hondo, TX, Sue (Gilbert) Macias of Harlingen, TX, and Sally (Manuel) Mendez of Harlingen, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Paula Alaniz.

Blas de la Rosa
HARLINGEN, TX — Blas De La Rosa, age 78, passed away at his residence Thursday, September 25, 2003.
He served his country in the armed forces and was a W W II Veteran where he received the following Medals: Purple Heart, European Middle Eastern Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theatre Service Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
He is preceded in death by his parents Valente and Julia de la Rosa; wife, Rebecca de la Rosa; and sister, Braulia de la Rosa.
Survivors include his sons: Blas de la Rosa (Rose Mary) and Armando (Maria) de la Rosa all of Corpus Christi; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Roy de la Rosa (Martha) of Harlingen; 5 sisters, Leandra and Jesusa de la Rosa, Paula Cruz, Lupe Martinez (Narciso) and Raquel Villarreal (Everaldo) all of Harlingen.
Visitation was held Friday with a Holy Rosary recited that evening.
Funeral mass will be held today, Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow to Heavenly Grace Memorial Park with military Honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post #205 and V.F.W. Post #2410.

Juan Gomez
SINTON, TX — Juan Francisco "Johnny" "Mr.G" Gomez, 44, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2003 in a Weslaco hospital following a short illness.
Johnny was formerly of Sinton where he graduated in 1977 and continued his education in music. He moved to the Valley in 1983 where he decided to make Edcouch-Elsa his home for the past 20 years. He was employed with the Edcouch-Elsa School District where he was a band director. His specialty was percussion director, he loved what he did.
Je was preceded in death by his father, Francisco Gomez. Johnny will be missed dearly by all who knew him. His students were a big part of his life.
He is survived by his mother, Petra Gomez of Sinton; his sisters and brother, Rosa G. (Ronnie) Guzman of Odem, Margie G. (Joe) Martinez of Elsa, Adam (Lupita) Gomez of Alamo and Dalia G. (Margarito) Quintanilla of Sinton; his nieces and nephews, Amanda, Desi, B.J., Joey, Joseph, Anthony, Megan, Dillon, Emilee, Zeke; and his great nephew, Justin; and all his band students, past and present.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2003, at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.

Juanita Rocha
HARLINGEN, TX — Juanita Rocha, 57, entered into rest on Friday. Juanita was born on February 18, 1946 to Juan and Benita Rocha and is preceeded in death by her parents.
She taught at the Gilbert Elementary School in Irving, TX.
Juanita is survived by her loving brothers, Jesus Rocha of San Benito, TX, Jose Rocha of Irving, TX, Rodrigo Rocha of Harlingen, TX, Roberto Rocha of Rio Hondo, TX, Ruben Rocha of Los Fresnos, TX, Ricardo Rocha of Primera, TX; sister, Linda Carter of Garland, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 26, 2003, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel pf Peace with the Holy Rosary prayed at 7 p.m.
The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home today, September 27, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. for a 12 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Alphonsus McHugh as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Combes Cemetery.

Porfirio "Morrow" Soto
MERCEDES, TX — Porfirio "Morrow" Soto, 87, passed away Thursday at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
Mr. Soto is survived by his loving family: two sons, Robert "Bobby" Soto of Mission and Romeo "Rome" Soto of Appletown, Wisconsin; five daughters, Maggie S. Kouth of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Carmen S. Martinez of Mercedes, Alicia S. Perales of Hidalgo, Yolanda S. Guerra of Donna and Dora S. Garcia of Weslaco. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes with burial following at Ebony Grove Cemetery also in Mercedes, with military Honors under the auspices of American Legion VFW Post 2410 and Post 205 of Harlingen.

COMBES — Gabino Flores, Sr., 91, entered into rest on Friday. Mr. Flores is preceded in death by his daughter Maria Francisca Olvera and grandchildren Samuel, Lydia and Roberto Mendoza.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Ramona Flores, his children Antonio (Norma) Rojas of Houston, TX, Juan (Melinda) Flores of Combes, TX, Ramiro (Deborah) Flores of Harlingen, TX, Cecilio Flores of Combes, TX, Gabino Flores Jr. of Combes, TX, Teodora Abitua of Boise, Idaho, Petra (Joe) Guillen of Primera, TX, Mary Velez of Harlingen, TX, Aurora (Amadeo Jr.) Mares of San Benito, TX, Antonia (Angel) Velasquez of Primera, TX; 32 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.

Maximiliano Cruz Gomez
HARLINGEN — Maximiliano Cruz Gomez, 46, went to be with the Lord in his Heavenly Kingdom, Friday September 26, 2003.
He was born July 10, 1957 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Maximiliano Sr. and Esperanza Gomez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Maria Gomez; three sons, Max (Erica), Eric and Edgar Gomez; two sisters and three brothers, Juanita, Ezequiel, Aniceto, David and Yolanda Gomez.
Visitations will be held today beginning at 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wake service will begin at 7 p.m. Chapel services will be held Monday, September 29, 2003 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Aniceto Garza officiating. Interment will follow to Las Rusias Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mario Magana, Martin Vasquez, Ranulfo Chaidez, Jaime Chaidez, Tito Escobedo, and Aniceto Gomez.
Maria Villarreal Trevino
VAN VLECK, TX — Our "REINA" Maria Villarreal Trevino, 73, was surrounded by her family when she was embraced by our Lord on September 25, 2003 to join her beloved husband, Marcelo Galvan Trevino in eternal glory, this happened in Houston, Texas. Maria was born to the late Manuel Garcia Villarreal and Gregoria Contreras Mendoza on April 6, 1930 in Charco, Texas. Our "REINA" married her beloved late husband, Marcelo Galvan Trevino on May 20, 1948 in Rio Hondo, Texas. Maria V. Trevino was the founder/owner of The Van Vleck Flower Shop since 1984. She was also co-owner/founder of The Van Vleck Overhead Door Company.
Her husband, her parents and one sister, Estella V. Estrada preceded her in death.
Maria leaves to cherish her memory four daughters and three sons, Maria T. Quesada (Antonio) from San Antonio, Texas, Irene V. Trevino from Bay City, Texas, Elisa T. Cisneros (Jesus) from Sweeny, Texas and Ester T. Hernandez (Cesar) from Victoria, Texas, Marcelo V. Trevino III (Rosalina) from Bay City Texas, Rudolfo V. Medina (Joe) of Harlingen, Texas, Manuel M. Villarreal (Manuela) of Tulares, California, Reynaldo M. Villarreal (Irma) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jose Luis M. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Antonio Marcelo Quesada, Fabian, Marcelo, Jason, and Daniel Trevino, Nevada and Montana Montemayor, Jesse Cisneros Jr., Rodolfo Trevino Jr., and Cesar Anthony Hernandez Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons, Jesse Soliz and Angelo Zamora.

Rev. Aldegundo Alfaro Marquez
HARLINGEN — Aldegundo Alfaro Marquez, 75, early in the morning, on September 26, 2003, Aldegundo Alfaro Marquez found peace. He was preceded in death by his parents Isidro and Lucinda Marquez, and his brothers Alfredo and Raymundo Marquez.
He is survived by his devoted wife Soledad and his children Isidro (Janie) Marquez of Harlingen, TX, Armando (Ana) Marquez of Lubbock, TX, Teodora (Justo) Adame of Lubbock, TX, Raymond (Julie) Moya of Wyoming, Andy (Sarah) Marquez of Lubbock, TX, And Amador Marquez of Harlingen, TX. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; brothers Esteban of Reynosa, Reynaldo of Matamoros, Natalio of Reynosa; sisters Jesus Guerra of San Luis Potosi, Rofina Alverado of San Benito, Francisca Sparta of Arizona and Dominga Ybarra of Dallas.
Aldegundo was born on January 28, 1928, in San Luis Potosi and immigrated to the United States by the age of 8. He resided in the Rio Grande Valley until the age of 28, when he set forth for northwest Texas. While in Lubbock, he found himself akin to the Baptist religion and reformed his life as a minister. By the late 1980’s, he was awarded an honorary Ph.D. in Theology by the University of Florida. He remained the pastor for the First Baptist Church of La Feria until the year 2001, when he retired and settled back into Harlingen with his wife.
Visitation will be held today, September 28, 2003 from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with a Religious service to be held at 7 p.m. with Pastor Robert Rodriguez of the Primera Iglesia Bautista of Harlingen officiating. Mr. Marquez’s cremated remains will be reunited with that of his family in San Luis Potosi at a later date.
He was a man who was no more nor no less than what he was; he will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
