SAN BENITO, TX — Estella M. Atkinson, 75, passed away at La Hacienda Nursing Home, Saturday, September 20, 2003. Mrs. Atkinson was born in San Benito, Texas and had been a lifetime resident, she was a housewife and a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church.Survivors include her sons, Porfirio (Belinda) Zuniga, of Harlingen, Daniel (Mary) Zuniga, of Harlingen, Elias (Zelda) Zuniga, Jr., of Edinburg, TX, Raymond Zuniga, of Harlingen, David (Cindy) Zuniga, of Longview, TX, and Fred (Belen) Zuniga, of Alamo, TX; brothers, Gilbert Atkinson, of Illinois, and Ernesto Atkinson, of San Benito; sisters, Betty Danylak, of Fort Worth, TX, and Norma Lee Atkinson, of Harlingen; 9 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, and 1 great granddaugther.
Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her parents, Alberto and Anita Atkinson; 2 brothers, Antonio Atkinson and Albert Atkinson; and sister, Bertha Persall.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 21, 2003 starting at 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 10 a.m., Monday, September 22, 2003 with Father Rudy Franco officiating. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her 6 sons.

Fern Wiley
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — Fern Wiley went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 11, 2003 in Chickasha, OK.
She is survived by her daughter, Ada Brown Cates of Blanchard, OK; sister, Gwen Thomas Wells; and niece, Gina Wells Wilson both of San Benito; and nephew, John Mark Wells of Los Fresnos; she is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandchild.
Services were held in Corpus Christi, TX (where she lived most of her life) on September 17, 2003. "She was loved by her family and friends."
Antonio C. Ruiz
SAN BENITO, TX — Antonio C. Ruiz, 87 years old, went home to be with his Lord on September 18, 2003.
Survivors are his children, Myra (Rey) Ramos, Rosa Iriz Martinez, Antonio, Manuel, Rolando, Rene, Ramon, Raul, Ruben, Celeste and Mario Antonio Ruiz; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Iris Alvarez and loving nephew, Willis M. Parsons.
Mr. Ruiz was preceded in death by his parents, Elena and Manuel Ruiz; a sister, Guadalupe Parsons; and two brothers, Manuel and Jose Ruiz; and one son, Roberto Ruiz.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 7 p.m. at Thomae Funeral Home, Bowie St., San Benito.

Andrea Ramirez
LYFORD, TX — Andrea Ramirez, 78, went to be with her Lord Thursday, September 18, 2003. She was born in Harlingen, Texas on March 2, 1925 to Concepcion and Maria Gonzales Silva.
Andrea is survived by two sons, Adalberto Ramirez of Lyford and Larry Ramirez of San Antonio; one daughter, Medyan Doria Lyons of San Antonio; two brothers, Ambrosio Gonzales and Torivio Silva both of Harlingen; and 5 grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. this evening at the Duddlesten Funeral Home Chapel and Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lyford with burial to follow at the Lyford Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home, Raymondville. 956-689-2151.
Daniel K. Arelt
Aug. 6, 1928 – Sept. 18, 2003
HARLINGEN, TX — Daniel K. Arelt, age 75, formerly of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2003 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen, Texas.
His wife and daughter were at his bedside at the time of his death. He was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. Daniel was born August 6, 1928, in South Bend to Frank and Clara (Patulski) Arelt who preceded him in death. Also preceding in death is one son, Michael J. Donovan.
On August 27, 1980, in South Carolina, Daniel married Dorothy Gresk who survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Patricia (Miles) Noffsinger of South Bend.
Daniel retired from the manufacturing industry after 21 years of service where he was a spray painter. He worked at Studebaker and A M General. He was a member of AARP, Presbyterian Players, Good Samaritan Club, the Parkinson Support Group and the Little Flower Catholic Church.
Daniel was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Retama Manor Nursing Home and Hospice of Cameron County.

Guadalupe P. Rosales
HARLINGEN, TX — Guadalupe Palacios Rosales, age 70, entered into the Lords Heavenly Kingdom, Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Retama Manor Nursing Home. She was a lifetime resident of Harlingen born December 12, 1932 to Manuel and Soila Palacios.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Elisa Palacios; and a brother, Fidel Palacios; and parents.
Survivors include 1 brother, Carlos (Viola) Palacios of San Antonio; 2 sisters, Maria (Francisco) Pozos of Homestead, FL, and Carmela (Lowell) Hoffman of Houston; 1 sister-in-law, Ninfa Palacios of Harlingen; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Monday, September 22, 2003 with a Holy Rosary recited at 7 p.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated today, September 23, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Eusebio Martinez officiating. Interment will follow to Las Rucias Cemetery under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel, 1217 S. F Street, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
Charles E. Carroll
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Charles E. (Bo) Carroll, 78, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas after a short illness.
Bo was born March 10, 1925 to Bond and Thelma (Grimm) Carroll in Casper, Wyoming and came to Texas when he was six months old.
Bo received two bachelor degrees and a masters degree from A & I, and taught school in Raymondville, Texas before becoming a Petroleum Marketer in the 80’s and owner of and then president of Carroll Petroleum.
Bo and his father both served in the U.S. Navy in the 40’s and Bo was a member of the American Legion Post #390 of Raymondville, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Bo built a 30 ft. Trimaran Sailboat and fished and sailed with the sea scouts in Port Mansfield and Bay. His passion for hunting dove took him as far away as Mexico where Bo and his friends got to hunt.
Bo is preceded in death by his mother, father, and a sister-in-law, Diana C. Klefisch and husband, Ralph Klefisch.
Bo is survived by his wife, Edna Cisneros Carroll; sister and brother-in-law, Vina and Harvey Witte; sister and brother-in-law, Bebe and Cloyce Terrell of Canyon and their daughter, Benita Faye; niece, Penny H. Bell and husband, Bob Bell of Padre Island and niece, Katherine Klefisch of Raymondville, TX and nephew, Hurt O. Klefisch of Harlingen, TX.
Memorials can be made to the Jessie Crump Diabetes Education Center at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Services will be held today, Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 2 p.m., at the First Methodist Church in Raymondville, Texas. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.

BROWNSVILLE, TX — James Jesse Bera, of San Benito, passed away on September 19, 2003.
He is survived by many relatives.

HARLINGEN, TX — Estella Cano, 88, born January 13, 1915 in Harlingen, Texas passed away September 11, 2003 in Mesquite, TX.
She is survived by her son, Feliciano and wife, Star Cano; 6 grandsons, Greg, Felix Jr., George, David, Chris, and Curtis Cano; 1 granddaughter, Stella Guerrero; 15 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her three brothers, Ricardo, Raul and Brigido Noyola; and three sisters, Evila Atkinson, Maggie Campos, and Eloisa Ramos; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Joseph Noyola; sisters, Celia Ybarra and Dora Quintanilla; and brothers, Hilario Noyola, Pedro Noyola Jr., and Pablo Noyola; and great grandchild, Curtis Lee Cano, Jr.
Funeral service was held September 15, 2003 at Eastgate Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
Socorro L. Longoria
SANTA ROSA, TX — Socorro L. Longoria, age 88, former Santa Maria resident passed away September 21, 2003 in Dover, DE.
She was the daughter of the late Antonio and Rosario Moreno DeLeon.
Mrs. Longoria had served as a Secretary/Bookkeeper for the Santa Maria Water District retiring in 1990.
She was the widow of the late Ventura G. Longoria and the mother of Sokie Shiels of Dover.
She is also survived by a sister, Lupe McLeskey; and 2 grandchildren – Socorro Diane and Jeffrey Shiels.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., in Holy Cross Church Dover, DE. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover.

Billie M. Macy
HOUSTON, TX — Billie M. Macy, 68, passed away Monday, September 22, 2003 at a hospital in Houston after a lengthy illness.
Billie was born November 19, 1935 in New Iberia, LA. She moved with her family to Olmito, Texas in 1945 and then to Harlingen, Texas in 1953 after her marriage to Matt M. Brown, Jr.
She was a LVN and worked at Valley Baptist Medical Center for several years. On February 11, 1975 she married Bill Macy and they moved to Montgomery, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; sons, John M. Brown (Eileen) of Harlingen and Pete Macy of Houston; brother, Joel James Marsalis (Laura) of Baytown, TX; sisters, Dorothy (Jim) Jefferson of Springfield, VA, Claudine Shofner (Harley) of Jacksonville, FL, Frances Weise of San Benito; niece, Donna Holloway (Larry Sr.) of San Benito; grandsons, Adam Brown, Ryan Brown, and Logan Brown all of Harlingen; granddaughters, Betsy and Candice Macy of Nocogdoches, Texas; great granddaughter, Kinze Macy.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Marsalis.
Graveside services only will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 10 a.m., Thursday, September 24, 2003 with Rev. Don Higginbotham officiating.
Billie will be best remembered as a devout Christian, compassionate, loving mother, grandmother and nurse.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Francisco Ortega, 69, passed away Monday, September 22, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Francisco was born October 6, 1933 in San Felipe, Mexico to Sarturnino and Florentina (Ovalle) Ortega.
Francisco is survived by his wife of 35 years, Juanita (Puga) Ortega; three daughters, Amalia (Paul) Shaughnessy of Helotes, TX, Cynthia Ortega of McAllen, TX and Florentina Ortega of McAllen, TX; one son, Francisco Ortega, Jr. of San Marcos, TX; four grandchildren, Aidan and Makena Shaughnessey, and Angel and Jasmine Perez; brothers and sisters, Amador Ortega of San Felipe, Guanajuato, Pilar Ortega of Matamoros, Julio Calvillo of Phoenix, AZ, Francisco Calvillo of Phoenix, AZ, Josephina Rivera of Phoenix, AZ, Rufino Calvillo of Tucson, AZ, and Dionisia Calvillo of Los Mochis.
A rosary will be held Thursday, September 25, 2003, 7 p.m. in the Duddlesten Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 26, 2003, 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Raymondville, Texas.
