Isabel L. Saldana
LA FERIA, TX — Isabel Longoria Saldana, 98, of La Feria entered into rest on September 16, 2003 at the age of 98 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. She was born on February 26, 1905 in El Carmen Ranch.
She was preceded in death by her husband Secundino Saldana; and two daughters, Herminia S. Garces and Herlinda.
She is survived by her sons, Samuel (Minerva) Saldana of Weslaco, Alonzo (Sara) Saldana of Houston; daughters, Esther (Beto) Rios of La Feria, Esmeralda Saldana of La Feria, Ermelinda (Ray) Garza of La Feria, Josefina (Pedro) Cavazos of Donna; son-in-law, Roberto Garces of La Feria. Also surviving her are 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today, September 18, 2003, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel of Peace with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.
The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Palms Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 19, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Plutarco Bellanggoy as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Feria, TX.
Pallbearers will be Ephrian Cavazos, Ray Garza, A.G. Rios, III, Micky Chavez, Jesse Ray Garza and Paul Gonzalez.
Isabel was the oldest and last surviving child of the twelve member family of Guadalupe and Concepcion Longoria. She will be remembered by all as "Granny Chavilita"

Ramon Becerra
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Ramon Becerra, 93, passed away September 17, 2003 at his home in Raymondville, Texas. He was born March 10, 1910 in San Fernando, Tamps., Mexico to Eduardo and Carmelita (Palacios) Becerra.
He is survived by his five sons, Joe (Concha) Becerra of Alamo, Rueben (Santos) Becerra of Brownsville, Epifanio (Ofelia) Becerra of San Antonio, Andres (ex-Rosita) Becerra of Raymondville and Albert Becerra of Raymondville; five daughters, Sofia (Miguel) Arellano of Edinburg, Carmen Becerra of Raymondville, Connie (Catarino) Perez of Salome, AZ, Evangelina (Armando) Gutierrez of Raymondville and Angelita (Karl) Karlsson of Moses Lake, WA. He is also survived by 34 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Concepcion E. Becerra; two sons, Ramon (Paulita) Becerra, Jr. and Juan Becerra. He was forever a Cowboy and always a Gentleman.
Funeral service will be held today, Friday, 10 a.m., September 19, 2003, at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery. A Rosary was held Thursday, 7 p.m. at Duddlesten Funeral Chapel.

Evangelina Castillo
LYFORD, TX — Evangelina Castillo, 90, entered into rest on September 17, 2003.
Her niece, Diana Castillo, which raised as a daughter was by her side at her time of death. She was born in Mexico to Braulio and Guadalupe Castillo. Evangelina never married but her brother’s (Eduardo’s) daughter, Diana and Diana’s two girls, Yvette and Jennifer Montez were her family.
Evangelina was preceded in death by her parents, Braulio and Guadalupe Castillo; her brothers, Eduardo Castillo, Sr. (Isabel), Jose Castillo (Maria), Manuel Castillo (Francisca) and sisters, Herminia Castillo (Froilan), Solia Sanchez (Gilberto). She is survived by 36 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, 10 a.m., September 20, 2003, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Guadalupe Cemetery in Lyford. A rosary will be held today, Friday, at Duddlesten Chapel.

Georgia G. Davis
HARLINGEN, TX — Georgia G. Davis, 87, life-long valley resident passed away Saturday, September 13, 2003.
She was the great-niece of James H. Dishman, who established the Far East Dishman Ranch C. in the 1980’s. She was the eldest daughter of Samuel Grant, Sr. and Lena Templeton Grant. Georgia was born on December 15, 1915.
Georgia was an avid geneology buff and was interested in preserving the history of the valley.
She served as a guide/hostess at the Rio Grande Valley Museum for several years.
She was a member of the Harlingen Preservation Committee.
She was also involved in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the Colonial Dames.
She also was a member of the 8th and Harrison Church of Christ.
She was also an avid believer in living life holistically and enjoyed working with her son, Bill at the Valley Health Foods Store. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Georgia loved sports and was an avid tennis player and an early member of Beta Sigma Phi.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly June Davis Carden of Abilene; a son, William Wilder Davis, Jr. of Harlingen; and a grandson, William Wilder Davis, III of Farmington, Michigan. She is also survived by her sister, Helena Grant Milam of Pfugersville, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Wilder Davis, Sr.; her sisters, Frances Grant Henry, Christine Grant Miller; and her brother, James Davis Grant.
Visitation hours will be held from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2003 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 10 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2003 with Jake Vincent and Danny Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Combes Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Myrlos Waters, Bill Farris, Dusty McGee, James Henry, Jim Simmons, and Jim Milan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunny Glen Childrens Home in San Benito.

Melesia C. Segura
SAN BENITO, TX — Melesia C. Segura, 96, of San Benito went to be with the Lord Thursday, September 18, 2003, at the Harlingen Medical Center.
Mrs. Segura is survived by 2 daughters, Dolores Segura of San Benito and Maria Elena Hinojosa (Javier) of California; 2 grandchildren, Jose Luis Vega, Sr. (Laura) of Harlingen and Lupe Herrera (Jose, Jr.) of San Benito; and great grandchildren, Jose Luis, Jr., of California, Sarah of Arizona, Melissa, Ricardo and Brissa Vega of Harlingen and Rafael and Crystal Contreras of Harlingen; J.T. III and Michael Herrera of San Benito and numerous great grandchildren from California.
She will be greatly missed by her family and her friends.
Rosary services will be held for Mrs. Segura, Friday, September 19, 2003, at 7 p.m. at the Thomae Funeral Chapel at 701 N. Bowie St., San Benito with the Funeral Mass being Saturday, September 20, 2003 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church at 9 a.m. with burial at the San Benito City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jose Herrera, Jr., J.T. Herrera, III, Rafael Contreras, Robert Aguilar, Emilio Hernandez, and Angel Galvan.

Barbara V. Spear
HARLINGEN, TX — Barbara Virginia Spear, 62, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2003 in her home in Harlingen, Texas.
She was born May 4, 1941 in Raymondville, Texas to Gus and Mabel (Wright) Kieke.
Funeral services will be held Sunday 1:30 p.m., September 21, 2003, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Raymondville with Pastor Walter Pohland officiating. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen, worked for the church school for many years. In lieu of flowers family request donations to St. Paul Lutheran School in Harlingen and Sandi Jo Hospice.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn Lee Spear of Harlingen; three sons, Roy (Patti) Kieke of Kyle, Michael (Melissa Munro) and Curtis (Genette) Spear all of Harlingen; her father, Gus Kieke of Raymondville; one sister, Francis Oerther of Raymondville; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Victoria, and Stephanie; three step-grandchildren, Johnathon, Jason and Justin Scaggs.
Family will be at Duddlesten Funeral Home for Visitations at 6 p.m., on Saturday evening.

SANTA MARIA, TX — Aeropajita Zuniga, 81, died early Thursday morning, September 18, 2003 at her residence.
She is survived by 5 sons, Daniel Zuniga, Hector Zuniga and Jose Zuniga all of Santa Maria, Carlos Zuniga of Weslaco and Mario Zuniga of San Antonio; 3 daughters, Guadalupe Sifuentes of Brownsville, Alicia Barco of Elsa and Sylvia Salinas of Santa Maria; one sister, Ignacia Garcia of Nuevo Progreso, Tamps., Mexico; 29 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday at Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday at Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Oralia Barker officiating.
Burial will follow at Bluetown Cemetery of Bluetown, TX under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Santiago Adame Soto
HARLINGEN, TX — Santiago Adame Soto, age 77, went to be with the Lord in his Heavenly Kingdom Wednesday September 17, 2003. He was born August 4, 1926 to Herculano and Teresa Soto.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Rosalio Soto.
Survivors include: brothers, Adelino (Gloria Lozano) Soto and Francisco Soto (Carmela Ochoa) all of Houston; sisters, Maria Pascuala Soto of Harlingen and Glafira Soto of Houston; also 17 nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Hojamen, Manuel, Adelino Jr., Grover, Manuel Francisco, Horacio, Jose, Gustavo Soto, and Adam Hernandez.
Visitation was held Friday with a prayer service led by Oscar Quintana. Chapel services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Funeral Chapel with Rev. Julio Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow to Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel 1217 South F Street, Harlingen, Texas.
Dorothea M. Beller
HARLINGEN, TX — Dorothea M. Beller, 89, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Amoret, Missouri and moved in 1925 with her family to Weslaco. She married Dr. Menno Simon Beller on July 17, 1932 and moved immediately to Harlingen where she worked many years with her husband as office manager of Beller Chiropractic Clinic.
She was very active both locally and statewide in the Texas Chiropractic Auxiliary. She received the Kennedy Award for outstanding lifetime of service to the Chiropractic profession.
Dorothea was a long standing member since 1932 of the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen and was very active in community organizations up until her death. She was past president of the Harlingen Zonta Club and member since 1960 and named Zonta of the Year in 1986, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #641 since 1949, and member of the Nile Club.
She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Roy Beller (Martha) of Harlingen, and Dr. Carl Beller (Carol) of Brownsville; grandchildren, Roy Beller (Kathryn) of Chappaqua, NY, Mary McKelvey (Gene) of Houston, Dr. Brian Beller of Brownsville, and Carla Heironimus (James) of Austin; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Charles, Maggie, and Jack Beller all of NY.
Visitation hours will be held from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, September 22, 2003 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held in the Clift Chapel at the First United Methodist Church, 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2003 with the Rev. Steve Purdy officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.

HARLINGEN, TX — Elias V. Gonzalez, 80, entered into rest on September 19, 2003 in Harlingen.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ponciano and Juanita Gonzalez; 3 brothers, Conrado, Encarnasion, and Ponciano; and 2 sisters, Miteria and Cruz.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Felipa Bautista Gonzalez; 11 children, Elvia (Luis) Cardenas, Isaias (Lupe) Gonzalez, David (Graciela) Gonzalez, Magdalena (Francisco) Saldivar, Graciela (Johnny) Vasquez, Elias Jr. (Silvia) Gonzalez, Sandra (Manuel) Mar, Daniel (Patricia) Gonzalez, Esequiel (Beatrice) Gonzalez, and Noe (Mariela) Gonzalez. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 step-sisters, Petera G. Montes and Hermina G. Alonzo.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, September 21, 2003 from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen.
The funeral will be held on Monday, at 10 a.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with Pastor Jesus Cepeda of El Buen Pastor Church officiating. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen.
Pallbearers will be his sons.
