James Mannes, Sr.
HARLINGEN, TX — James Clinton Mannes, Sr., 75, was called home to be with the Lord in his Heavenly Kingdom, Sunday morning September 14, 2003. He was born in Hibbing, Minnesota on March 18, 1928 to his parents, William and Bertha S. Mannes.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. He was a current member of the American Legion Post 205 and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 2410. He was a hardworking man with many accomplishments, he loved his job as a pipe fitter and master plumber.
He and his wife later settled in Harlingen, Texas in 1984. James had many pastimes doing what he liked most. He enjoyed creating wood works, fishing and playing cards with friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Mannes; sisters, Joyce Richter and a grandson, Ronald Mannes.
James is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Wanda Lucille Mannes; six children, Steven and his wife, Kathy Mennes of Hibbing, MN, Brenda and her husband, Tom Hanson of Medford, WI, Susan and her husband, Mark Shervey of Nisswa, MN, Cynthia Mannes Plano, TX, Cheryl and her husband, Denis McLaughlin of Plano, TX, and James Mannes Jr. of Plano, TX; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; five sisters, Jean Stirewalt, Janet ylatupa, Bette Harrison, Arlene Porterfield and Myrt Jurenes.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Lakewood Village Friendship Hall with Chaplain Joe Perez officiating. military Honors will be presented under the auspice of American Legion Post 205.

Gloria E. Kindinger
RIO HONDO, TX — Gloria E. Kindinger passed away Friday evening September 12, 2003 at home with her family present.
Gloria is survived by her husband, George (Jack) Kindinger; children, Jack, George (Billy), and Mary; a younger brother, James (Bobby) Dyas of Enterprise, Alabama; and grandchildren, Brian, Adam, Megan, and Aryn.
Gloria was born June 16, 1923 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was the second of three siblings born to Lee and Burton Dyas.
Gloria graduated as a teacher in 1945 from Southwest Texas Teachers College (SWTSU) in San Marcos, TX. She moved to Rio Hondo to teach Home Economics. In 1949 she married Jack and they had three childen. Through the years Gloria worked as a teacher in several Valley schools, as an accountant for local businesses, and she was the manager of the Lozano Coop Cotton Gin.
In the early 1960’s Gloria came back to her first love, teaching, and became the Reading Specialist in Rio Hondo School Distirct. Many students benefited from this unique program she started.
Gloria and Jack were life-long members of St. Helen Catholic Church in Rio Hondo.
Gloria was an active member of a number of organizations, most prominently Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, St. Helen Altar Society, St. Helen Bookkeeper, The Valley Arts and Crafts Club, National and Texas Retired Teachers Association, and Rio Hondo Daily Coffee Group at Mary’s Café.
Her most favorite times were visiting with her children and grandchildren, and doing crafts and puzzles with her local friends. Her family and many friends who have been so supportive will dearly miss her.
A memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2003 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, Rio Hondo, followed by a gathering of friends and family in the Parish Hall.

Elia Z. Martinez
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Elia Zamora Martinez, 73, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2003 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Raymondville, TX. She was born March 6, 1930 in Penitas, Texas to Uvalde and Natalie (Garza) Zamora.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday 2 p.m., September 16, 2003 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow at La Sara Cemetery.
Mrs. Martinez enjoyed gardening, she was a special grandma and mom, she was a friend to all who knew her. A special thanks to Dr. Todd Shenkenberg and staff, Infustion Center 2nd floor at Valley Baptist Medical Center and also to Retama Manor in Raymondville.
She is survived by her daughter, Alicia M. (Armando) Dominguez of Raymondville; two sons, Alfredo Z. Martinez of San Benito and Gregorio Z. (Amelia) Martinez of Arlington, TX; her ex-husband, Jesse G. Martinez of Lyford; two sisters, Irene Garcia of Mission and Emma Garza of Harlingen; her grandsons and granddaughters, Armando Abran (Brany) Dominguez of Harlingen, Alfredo, Jr. (Nora) Martinez of Harlingen, Greg Martinez, Jr. of Arlington, Analisa Dominguez of San Marcos, TX, Anika Martinez of San Benito and Ariana Martinez of Arlington; one great-grandson, Aziel Martinez of Harlingen. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Armando Abran Dominguez, Alfredo Martinez, Jr., Gregorio Martinez, Jr., Analisa Dominquez, Anika Martinez and Ariana Martinez.

Jerry Kerr
RAYMONDVILLE/BEDFORD, TX — Jerry kerr went to be with the Lord on September 13, 2003 in Bedford, Texas. She was born in McAlester, OK, October 5, 1918. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She moved to Harlingen in 1947, and moved to Sebastian in 1954 where she resided for 41 years.
Jerry worked in the Mission churches in Sebastian and Lyford for many years. She loved the Lord and I know she is being greeted in heaven with well done my good and faithful servant.
She is survived by her husband, Ivan Kerr of Bedford, Texas; daughters, Berlyn Evans of Conroe, TX, Jeanne Tomlinson and husband, Rex of Acuff, TX, and Jo Jo Burnett and husband, Chet of Bedford, TX; step-children, Martha Bledsoe of Blanco, TX, Cora Kaser, Carolyn Phlieger and Dennis Kerr Al of Ohio; daughter-in-law, Anneliese Marshall; sister, Christine Ernest of Norman, OK; brother, Allen Kindrick of Pasadena, TX; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Carl and Peggy Oakes, Juanita Oakes, Jewel Oakes and 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husbands, Bill Marshall and George Oakes; son, Karl Marshall; step-daughter, Margie Waxler; sister, Shirley George; parents, John Ferris and Amy Kindrick; step-mother, Ruth Kindrick; stepmother, Ruth Kindrick and 3 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jack Scoggin, Bill Grissom, grandsons, Bill Thomas, Doug Bledsoe, Charlie Bledsoe, George Marshall and Kory Evans.
Funeral will be Wednesday 2 p.m., September 17, 2003 at Combes First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Combes Cemetery.
Viewing will be Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at Duddlesten Funeral Home and at 12 noon Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Combes before the funeral.

Eugenia S. "Genie" Cortez
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — Eugenia S. "Genie" Cortez, 61, of Corpus Christi, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2003 with her family by her side.
She was born on October 23, 1941 in Los Fresnos, Texas to William Schwitez and Sofia Vargas.
She worked for the Corpus Christi Caller Times for 30 years. Genie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and will be missed dearly by all.
She is survived by her loving husband, Raul C. "R.C." Cortez; one son, Lionel Lee Cortez (Sylvia); one daughter, Lorraine Mae Cortez all of Corpus Christi, Texas; three sisters, Geneva Arthin of La Mesa, AR, Ernestina Lino and Christina Herrera both of Los Fresnos, Texas; three grandchildren, Lionel Lee Cortez, Jr., Selena Sofia Cortez and "J.B." Jose Maria Barrera IV.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that same evening.

Jib Hamel Klein
WEBSTER, TX — Jib Hamel/Klein born Jessie Blanche Mapes in 1917 in Spring Valley, New York to Ellen Hopper and Leland R. Mapes, died in League City, Texas on September 16, 2003.
Jib was raised in Evanston, IL, graduated from Connecticut College in New Haven, married Herman (Hank) Hamel on October 1, 1937 in New York City and later moved to Texas, living in San Antonio, Weslaco, Dallas, and Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hank; and her sister, Mary Ryan.
In 1980, she married Gardner C. Klein, of West Long Branch, New Jersey where she lived until after his death in 1984, returning to the Houston area several years later.
Jib was active in many facets of the life of the Episcopal Church in Texas including serving as director of Christian Education for the Diocese of Texas, leader of the Episcopal Youth Fellowship at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Houston, and, in 1964, as founder with her husband, Hank Hamel, the Bishop’s Warden, of St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Nassau Bay near Houston. The church’s first organizational meeting as a Mission was held in Jib and Hank’s home in Taylor Lake Village, Seabrook, Texas.
Jib is survived by her four children and their spouses: Peter Hamel and Martha; Lee Hamel and Carole Ann; Catherine Shirley and Charles; and Cynthia Watkins and Lynn, as well as by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Matt Hamel and his wife Karen; Mary Ellen Hamel; Todd Hamel and his wife, Kelly and their daughter Haley Victoria; Stuart Hamel and his wife, Holly and their daughter Carlyn Lee; Chad Kaufman and his wife, Summer; Katie Kaufman; Evan Watkins; Alan Watkins and his wife, Angie; and Amy Watkins; and by her nephews: Bob Mahland and his wife Janet, and John Ryan and his wife Geri.
A service in memory of Jib is scheduled at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church at 18300 Upper Bay Rd., Nassau Bay, Texas, 77058 just off NASA Road 1 at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2003. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

Dolores Manuel Weaver
LOS INDIOS, TX — Dolores Manuel Weaver, a member of a pioneer cameron county family, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Weslaco, Texas. He was born December 22, 1930 in Los Indios, Texas to Manuel and Adela Galvan Weaver.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Weaver; mother, Adela Weaver; and brother, Rene.
He is survived by his cousin and guardian, Judge (Wally) Gualberto Weaver; other relatives and many cousins to whom Lolo was very special to.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 18, 2003 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held Friday, September 19, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Las Rucias, Texas, with Father Albert Lelo-Luempa as celebrant. Interment will follow to Las Rucias Cemetery.

James George Hartman
Jan. 3, 1926 to Sept. 14, 2003
AUSTIN, TX — Dad was born in Colmar Manor Maryland in 1926. He served in the Navy and was a WW2 Veteran. In 1949 he married Lucia Moreno Alvarez and moved to San Benito, Texas. Dad lived in San Benito for over 50 years and served as a volunteer fire fighter for over 20 years.
He is survived by his three sons, daughter, nine grandchildren, sister, and brother.
A service will be held at Saint Teresa’s Catholic Church in San Benito on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 11 a.m.
Corinne Reeder
SEGUIN, TX — Corinne Reeder, age 85, of Seguin, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 in San Antonio.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2003 at 3 p.m. at San Geronimo Cemetery with Rev. Linda Montgomery officiating.
Visitation will be held at Goetz Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Mrs. Reeder was born on April 19, 1918 in Holyoke, Colorado to Harry and Hazel Jenkins Essex.
The Reeders were former residents of Harlingen and the Rio Grande Valley for over 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. J. Reeder and her parents.
Survivors include her daughters, Fran Coker, Carolann Gibson and husband Kent, and Kay Sandlin; grandchildren, Cathy Coker, Jimmy Coker, Joey Rimkus and wife Colleen, Stacey Solis and husband Moises, Rickey Tanamachi, Trea Schmidt and husband Brian, Chris Ticer, Denise Wood and husband Brent; 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild;
