Fran Voyles

LITCHFIELD, IL — Fran Marie Voyles, 70, of Litchfield, IL, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2003 at 9:54 p.m. at her residence. Born July 25, 1933 in Finley, TN. The daughter of William Lee Allen and Geneva Ada Lou (Hicks) Clark.

She married Arthur Voyles on April 9, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Litchfield, and he survives. Mrs. Voyles was an assembly line worker and materials handler for Echlin Corp. in Litchfield for several years. She also was employed as a housekeeper for the Gardens in Litchfield until her retirement.

Mrs. Voyles was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 581. She and her husband Art enjoyed Ballroom Dancing, and spent the winter months in Alamo,  Texas.

In addition to her husband Art, Mrs. Voyles is survived by: a son, William Voyles and wife Barbara of Taylorville, IL; 2 daughters, Cynthia, wife of Michael McClain of Onarga, IL and Candy, wife of Dennis Rands of Cottage Hills, IL; 9 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Mrs. Voyles is preceded in death by her parents and 2 grandsons, Bobby Parks and Anthony Voyles.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield, IL. The Rev’s Tom Clark and Robert Metcalf will co-officiate. Burial will be in the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The family suggests memorials to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 404 E. Union Ave., Litchfield, IL 62056. 1-800-824-3939.

Arvone H. Mooradian

ROCKPORT, TX — Arvone Harry Mooradian of Rockport,  Texas died on July 28, 2003.

He served his country in World War II in the United States Army and after being honorably discharged, he returned to the Rio Grande Valley. Harry began to learn the ways of Public Radio and soon thereafter, Public Television. He grew with this growing industry and became a television station manager in several cities and states including Harlingen.

Harry loved his boats and enjoyed being a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary first in San Antonio, then later in Rockport (Flotilla 78). He was also a member of the American Legion Post 363 and was a Mason.

Harry leaves behind his wife, Jane, of Rockport; a son, John Henry; and a sister, Armenia Plum, of Harlingen. He also leaves behind his niece and nephew, Tom and Mary Joy Mason of Harlingen; his grand niece, Holly (Carl) Leatherman, of Harlingen; her children, Kelsey and Kendall Omick, of Harlingen; and grand nephew, Tom Mason, of Dallas.

A service will not be held in Rockport, but a family service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be mailed to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 78, in care of: Carol Goosney, 101 Palo Pinto Drive, Rockport,  Texas 78382.

Juan Luis Gonzalez

LOS FRESNOS, TX — Juan Luis Gonzalez, 45, of Los Fresnos,  Texas entered into the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 in the loving embrace of his family in McAllen,  Texas.

He was born on January 14, 1958 in Brownsville,  Texas to Luis Gonzalez, and Rosa Zepeda. Mr. Gonzalez was a lifetime resident of Los Fresnos. He was appreciated, loved, and respected by his family, friends, and members of the community. We will miss him because of his kindness, and humbleness.

He was a Contractor in Los Fresnos, who helped in the construction of many homes and businesses. He was also a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. His daughters love him, and will miss him.

Survivors include 3 wonderful daughters, Angie (Larry) Gonzalez Davalos of Los Fresnos, TX, Christina Gonzalez of Los Fresnos, TX, and Bernice Gonzalez of Los Fresnos, TX; very special grandson, Oscar Oviedo, III of Los Fresnos, TX; former spouse, Noelia Gonzalez of Los Fresnos, TX; mother, Rosa Zepeda of Pearland, TX; father, Luis Gonzalez of Los Fresnos, TX; maternal grandfather, Manuel Zepeda of Brownsville, TX; paternal grandmother, Maria Aguilar Gonzalez of Porterville, CA; 3 sisters, Diana (Carlos) Salazar of Los Fresnos, TX, Rosie (Frank, Sr.) Gonzalez of Los Fresnos, TX, and Alma (Luis) Mascorro of Los Fresnos, TX; 1 brother, Hugo Gonzalez of Houston, TX; 2 half brothers, Luis Gonzalez, Jr. of Dallas, Tx and Joel Gonzalez of Dallas, TX; nieces and nephews: Adriana (Ron) Barrera, Charyck Mascorro, Omar Mascorro, Frank Gonzalez, Jr., and Amanda Gonzalez.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2003 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home, and a procession will follow to St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, departing the funeral home at 4:30 p.m. and visitation will continue from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Visitation will resume as of 8 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2003, and the mass is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s, and interment will follow to Los Cuates Cemetery in Los Fresnos. We are requesting of friends, and family that would like to send floral tributes, that on Thursday, after 4 p.m. flowers may be delivered to St. Cecilia Catholic Church.

The family of Mr. Gonzalez would like to extend their most sincere appreciation to all that have been there as supporters, either in prayer or any other capacity.

Daniel Cavazos

SAN BENITO, TX — Educator of Life: Daniel Cavazos, after walking in the footsteps of our Lord as he graced his family and a multitude of friends with his love, loyalty and service, for 64 years, has returned home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 18, 2003.

Daniel was a man who was admired for his deeds, noble acts and was considered to be a model or ideal for others. He served the community as an educator for 44 years.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 41 years, Olga M. Cavazos; one daughter, Denise C. Lopez (Luis); two sons, Daniel Cavazos III, (Raquel) and David Cavazos. Also surviving him are his two grandchildren, Daniel B. Cavazos IV and Christian T. Cavazos; his two step-grandchildren, Alfonso and Alejandro Roque; 4 brothers, Jose (Elida), Ernesto (Hilda), Juan (Ardell), and Eddie Cavazos.

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, Jose M. and Catarina W. Cavazos; his granddaughter, Bethany Leanna; and 3 brothers, Antonio, Jesus and Fred Cavazos.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 22, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Armando Escamilla and Pat Veach officiating. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers taking him to his resting place are his sons, David, Daniel Cavazos III and Luis Lopez; his nephews, Arturo Cavazos, Mike Cavazos, Monty Montemayor; and friends, Mario Marroquin and Ramon Benavidez.

Dan will be greatly missed by his family and friends whose lives he touched.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of San Benito Funeral Home.

Margaret J. Tayler

HARLINGEN, TX — Margaret J. Tayler, 98, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at her residence.

Mrs. Tayler was born March 24, 1905 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Fred L. and Helen Wade Christian and baptized Margaret Joy in that city’s St. Thomas Episcopal Church April 23, 1905.

The family later moved to Detroit, Michigan where she attended school and was confirmed in 1918 at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church.

There she met her future husband, Lee E. Tayler, and they were married August 24, 1927, two years after Mr. Tayler’s graduation from the University of Detroit.

They lived in Grosse Point Farms, Michigan for thirty-nine years, and moved to Harlingen,  Texas in June 1966 after Mr. Tayler’s retirement from the Detroit Edison Co., where he had been employed for forty-one years.

They joined St. Alban’s Episcopal Church upon arrival in Harlingen and were both active in the church. Eventually they moved to a home at the Harlingen Country Club in Palm Valley,  Texas, where Mr. Tayler preceded her in death, December 1, 1988.

She is survived by a brother, Robert Wade Christian of Grosse Point Farms, Michigan; and three nephews, Steven, Jeffery, and Kenneth Christian; also three grand-nieces and three grand-nephews.

She is also survived by two Tayler nephews, Will and Douglas. She is also survived by dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Torres, Jr., with whom she lately lived enjoying their care and many kindnesses.

Visitation hours will be held Thursday, August 21, 2003 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 22, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with Reverend David Reed officiating.

Entombment will follow in Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Day School Endowment Fund at 1417 E. Austin, Harlingen, texas 78550.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Rachel O. Salinas

SAN BENITO, TX — Rachel O. Salinas, 53, entered into rest on Tuesday at her residence surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Salinas was preceded in death by her parents Guadalupe D. and Paula Mendez Longoria.

She is survived by her loving family; daughters, Yvette Salinas, Yvonne S. Botello both of San Benito; 7 grandchildren; sisters, Victoria Adame, Rufina Riggs, Irma Flores; brother, Guadalupe Longoria; step-mother, Juana Longoria; and her children and numerous other family members.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2003, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with a memorial service to be held at 7 p.m. with Rev. Oscar Quintana officiating.

Rachel was a loving, caring and giving mother, grandmother and sister. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Pauline Morrill Abbott

BROWNSVILLE, TX — Pauline Morrill Abbott died Monday, August 18, 2003 at the age of 92 in Brownsville,  Texas. She had resided on South Padre Island,  Texas for 29 years in a home she and her husband built in 1954.

Mrs. Abbott was born in Chihuahua, Mexico in 1911, and grew up in North Carolina and Massachusetts. She met her husband, the Rev. Paul R. Abbott, in Chicasaw, OK, where she had moved to be near her brother. During their life together, Mrs. Abbott and her husband lived in Enid,  Oklahoma, Eldorado, Arkansas, Brownsville,  Texas, where he was the rector of the Church of the Advent, Episcopal, from 1951 to 1960, and Cuernavaca, Mexico, before they retired to South Padre Island.

The Rev. Abbott preceded her in death, as did her brother, Grant Morrill, and sister, Lucy Hinckley.

Mrs. Abbott is survived by her son, Dwight A. Abbott and his wife, Nanette Nicol Abbott; and her daughters, Dr. Emily Abbott, and Kathryn Abbott Ayers and her husband, Ralph E. Ayers; also her grandchildren, Alex Abbott Matthews, Cory Abbott, Merle Ayers, Matthew Ayers and Vicki Ayers, and her great-granddaughter, Alexa Ayers.

There will be a memorial service at St. Andrew’s by the Sea, Episcopal, (a church her husband helped to establish while in Brownsville), in Port Isabel on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Abbott will be remembered as a generous friend and devoted mother and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Andrew’s Scholarship Fund.

Maria H. Rodriguez

MERCEDES, TX — Maria H. Rodriguez, 63, went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2003. Maria was born to Paulo and Rita Herrera on August 24, 1939 in Rangerville, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paulo and Rita Herrera of San Benito; and a sister, Manuela Herrera.

Maria is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Gilbert Rodriguez, Sr.; three sons, Arnold (Rosie) Rodriguez, Orlando Rodriguez of Mercedes and Rolando (Rosa) Rodriguez of San Benito. Also surviving are three step-sons, Gilbert, Jr. (Terry) Rodriguez of Florida, Martin (Belinda) Rodriguez of Weslaco, Isidro (Diana) Rodriguez of Austin; two step-daughters, Enedina (David) Ayala of Mercedes, Cory (Darren) Villanueva of Michigan; four grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren; six sisters, Paula Gonzalez, Guadalupe Sanchez, Margarita Garcia, Emilia Gonzalez, Ernestina Muniz all of San Benito, Rosalinda Miranda of Holland, MI; one brother, Matilde Herrera of San Benito.

Mrs. Rodriguez was employed for thirty-five years with Harlingen State Hospital until she became ill and could no longer work.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Hipolito M. Garza

PHOENIX, Arizona/SAN BENITO, TX — Hipolito M. Garza, 54, passed away on August 14, 2003 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Survivors include his wife, Lucia G. Garza; 2 daughters, Crystal Garza and Lillian Cantu; 3 sons, Ruben Garza, Gregorio Garza, and George Cantu; 8 grandchildren, Brittany R. Garza, Isabella H. Garza, Angelica Garza, Athan S. Riley, Gabriel Garza, Vicent G. Garza, Keven Jae Kim, and Kelsey Rae Kim; mother, Juanita Moreno Garza; 5 brothers, Israel Garza, Ruben Garza, Genaro Garza, Braulio Garza Jr., and Fidel Garza; 1 sister, Corina Garza.

He is preceded in death by his father, Braulio Garza Sr.

Visitation will be held today, Friday, August 22, 2003 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2003 at Queen of Universe Catholic Church in San Benito. Interment will follow to Las Yescas Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be his sons and brothers.

military Honors will be conducted at the graveside, by the American Legion Post 205 and the V.F.W. Post 498 of Harlingen,  Texas.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors, San Benito, 399-1331.
