PRIMERA, TX — Bonifacio Quiroz 86, of Primera entered into rest August 14, 2003.
Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 3 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with Rev. Alfonso Bergara officiating.
Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen.
He is survived by his loving wife, Catalina G. Quiroz of Primera; his children, Guadalupe Quiroz of Edinburg, Enedina (Ciro Manuel) Garza of Rio Hondo, Irene (Serafin) Doria of Florida, Mary Alice Pena of Primera, Bonifacio (Martha) Quiroz, Jr. of Primera, Maria Guadalupe (Juan) Hernandez of Michigan, Aurora (Jimmy) Doria of Florida, Catalina (Albino) Garcia of Harlingen, Cipriano (Peggy) Quiroz of Primera, Eliazar (Tina) Quiroz, Sr. of Laguna Vista, David Quiroz of Primera, Eliazar Quiroz, Jr. of Primera; 34 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Urbano Quiroz and Gregorio Quiroz; and sisters, Antonia Lopez, Hortencia Longoria, Raquel Longoria and Maria Contreras.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cipriano and Carolina Quiroz; a daughter, Juanita Cordero; and brother, Ovidio Quiroz. Funeral services are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Harlingen, 1702 E. Harrison, Harlingen, Texas 425-8200.
Florentino Quiroga, Sr.
CROSWELL, MI — Florentino Quiroga, Sr., 77, of Croswell, died Sunday, July 27, 2003 in his home. He was born November 14, 1925 in Mercedes, Texas, son of the late Alonso and Celsa (Torres) Quiroga.
He and Maria Beatriz Salazar were married April 16, 1955 in Croswell. Mr. Quiroga served in the U.S. Army in W W II and the Korean War. He was a retired 30 year General Motors employee who worked at the Fisher Body Fleetwood Cadillac Plant in Detroit.
Surviving are his wife, Maria Beatriz; three sons, Florentino, Jr. of La Feria, Texas, Rene of Fort Wayne, IN and Mario Alberto (Gayle) of Croswell; eight grandchildren:Michelle Quiroga-Marritt, Eric Michael, Rene, Jr., Billy Jo, Gina Marie, Carlos and Michael Quiroga and Keith Mason; three great-grandchildren, Kaityln Guizar, Tyler Michael Quiroga and Carly Merritt; his mother, Vicenta Quiroga; brother, Arturo; sisters, Virginia Quiroga and Petra Gonzales all of Texas; and a brother, Alonso, Jr. of Indiana.
Funeral services have been held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Croswell with Rev. Donald Dueweke as officiant. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Croswell. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Pomeroy Funeral Homes, Inc., Croswell, MI.
Margaret Saxon Barrowman
MONTGOMERY, AL — Margaret Saxon Barrowman, 83, a resident of Montgomery, AL and a former resident of Clarksville, TN and Harlingen, TX died Saturday, August 16, 2003.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. Timothy C. and Kathy Barrowman of Montgomery, AL, Gregory R. Barrowman of Harlingen, TX; 3 grandchildren, Leigh Barrowman (Billy) Davis and Hillary Frances Barrowman both of Montgomery, AL, Jon Thomas Barrowman of San Antonio, TX; 1 great-grandchild William Davis of Montgomery, AL.
In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Jackson Hospital Foundation, Church of the Holy Comforter, Montgomery Humane Shelter or the Elmore County Humane Shelter.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 from the Church of the Holy Comforter with Rev. Drake Whitelaw officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. in the McQueen Room of the Church.

Shakira Sierra
SAN BENITO — Shakira Sierra, 5, of San Benito passed away at her home on August 16, 2003. She was born on June 18, 1998 in Harlingen, TX.
She is survived by her parents Eulalio Sierra and Johanna Espinoza; one brother Eulalio Sierra, Jr.; maternal grandparents Timoteo Jr. and Nora Villafranca; paternal grandparents Leonel and Juana Sierra; several aunts and uncles.
Active pallbearers will be Ismael Olivares Sr., Ismael Olivares Jr., Christopher Olivares and Norberto Garcia.
There will be a prayer service officiated on Monday, August 18, 2003 at 7 p.m. at the chapel of Thomae Funeral Home located at 701 N. Bowie.
A Holy Mass will be officiated on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow to San Benito City Cemetery.

James William Barfield
HARLINGEN — James William "Bill" Barfield went home to be with our Lord on August 14, 2003. Bill was born to James and Vada Barfield on August 3, 1933 in Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. W. and Vada Barfield and a niece Patti Moore.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mae, of 47 years; his daughter, Martha and son-in-law Kelly Hensz; two grandchildren, Karen Elizabeth Hensz (Care Bear) and Daniel Jacob Hensz (Mr. D); sister Shirley (Carl) Moore and many dear nieces and nephews.
In 1959, Bill and his wife moved to the Valley, where he and his father began Barfield Paving Co. Bill was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Confederate Air Force. He was an active and faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served on the Board of Elders, Board of Education, and also as an usher.
Bill will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 17, 2003 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Allen Hensz, Kenny Moore, Ricky Moore, Tom Robertson, Buddy Walker, and Roy Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Alexander, Steve Eaton, Dwayne McWhorter, John Turany, Bob Kloepping, and Herb Hensz.

Stanley J. Majewski
MCALLEN, TX — Stanley Joseph Majewski, 60, died at the Comfort House in McAllen, Texas. A native of Detroit, Michigan, but he had resided in San Benito, TX for the past 20 years.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corp. Reserve for 20 years. He was a member of the Harlingen Elks Lodge 1889.
He was Community Manager at Tropics Mobile Home Community.
Survivors include his children, Stanley J. Majewski, Pamela (D.J.) Chapman, Melanie (Timothy) Lafferty, all of Detroit, Michigan; 4 stepchildren; 15 grandchildren; and sister, Felecia (Don) Sosa of Detroit, Michigan.
Private services will be held at a later date in Dearborn, Michigan.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel, 1217 South F. Street, Harlingen, Texas.
Daniel Cavazos
SAN BENITO, TX — Educator of Life: Daniel Cavazos, after walking in the footsteps of our Lord as he graced his family and a multitude of friends with his love, loyalty and service, for 64 years, has returned home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 18, 2003.
Daniel was a man who was admired for his deeds, noble acts and was considered to be a model or ideal for others. He served the community as an educator for 44 years.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 41 years, Olga M. Cavazos; one daughter, Denise C. Lopez (Luis); two sons, Daniel Cavazos III, (Raquel) and David Cavazos.
Also surviving him are his two grandchildren, Daniel B. Cavazos IV and Christian T. Cavazos; his two step-grandchildren, Alfonso and Alejandro Roque; 4 brothers, Jose (Elida), Ernesto (Hilda), Juan (Ardell), and Eddie Cavazos.
Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, Jose M. and Catarina W. Cavazos; his granddaughter, Bethany Leanna; and 3 brothers, Antonio, Jesus and Fred Cavazos.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 22, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Armando Escamilla and Pat Veach officiating.
Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers taking him to his resting place are his sons, David, Daniel Cavazos III and Luis Lopez; his nephews, Arturo Cavazos, Mike Cavazos, Monty Montemayor; and friends, Mario Marroquin and Ramon Benavidez.
Dan will be greatly missed by his family and friends whose lives he touched.

Judy Lynn Byrd
SANTA ROSA, TX — Judy Lynn Byrd, 51, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2003 at her residence. Judy was born on December 18, 1951 to Matt and Dorothy Byrd.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Combes, TX and a former member of the First Baptist Church in McAllen, TX. Judy was a graduate of Santa Rosa High School in 1970 and a graduate of Baylor University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and Major in Biology.
She received her post graduate certification from American Society Clinical Pathologist certified Medical Technologist, MT-ASCP and was employed with McAllen Medical Center 28 years. Judy was also a member of American Society Clinical Pathologist, american Public Health Society, National Women in the Arts, and Baylor Alumni Association.
Judy is survived by her mother, Dorothy Byrd of Santa Rosa; sisters, Peggy (David) Harms of The Colony, TX, and Billie (Eric) Van Syckle of Ingram, TX; nephews, Jacob and Joshua Van Syckle; nieces, Lauren and Shelby Van Syckle; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her father, Matt (S.M) Byrd; brother, Gary W. Byrd; paternal and maternal grandparents.
Viewing hours will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2003 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Combes, TX. Burial will follow in La Feria Cemetery.

Louis "Skip" Wolf
LYFORD, TX — Louis "Skip" Wolf, 72, passed away Monday, August 18, 2003 at his home in Lyford, TX. He was born April 12, 1931 in New Albany, IN to Louis Stanley and Mildred (Conant) Wolf.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., August 21, 2003 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lyford with John Huegel and K.W. Wehrmeister officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
He was a member of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International and Hospice Program. Skip touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

Wolf of Lyford; one daughter, Deborah (Allen) Hovda of Corpus Christi; and one son, Louis "Mike" Wolf of Lyford. San Juana Loa Flores
HARLINGEN, TX — San Juana Loa Flores, 90, passed away peacefully Monday morning, August 18, 2003. She was a caring and giving person who was loved and cherished by family and friends.
San Juana is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Guadalupe R. Flores; and her sister, Petra Loa Garcia.
She is survived by her niece, Sylvia N. Flores (Andy Flores, Jr. and their children, William Flores and Janice Bowen); nephew, Felipe Garcia, Jr. (his children, Jacob Garcia and Jay Garcia).
The family extends its heart-felt gratitude to the staff of Retama Manor Nursing Center for the care they provided to San Juana.

SAN BENITO, TX — Angela C. Garza beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend went to be with the Lord at her residence, Monday evening August 18, 2003 at the age of 79.
She is survived by her loving husband, Francisco Garza; sons, Guadalupe Garza (Rosa) of San Benito, TX, Leonel Garza (Andrea) of Rio Hondo, TX, Clemente Garza Sr. (Rosie) Mercedes, TX; daughters, Mauricia Garza and Yolanda Garza of Rio Hondo, TX, Hermina Garza and Ercilia Cavazos both of San Benito, TX; 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; sisters, Petra Garcia, Frances Cruz, and Lupita Zepeda all of Harlingen, Eulalia Alaniz of Portland, Oregon, Juanita Espinoza and Santos Casares both of San Jose, CA.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2003 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Holy Rosary will be recited that evening at 7:30 p.m.
