HARLINGEN — Martin F. Villafranca, age 39, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2003 in Harlingen.
Mr. Villafranca was preceded in death by his mother Adelina Villafranca.
Mr. Villafranca is survived by his loving wife of 15 years of marriage, Alma Villafranca; four daughters, Amanda, Jackie, Rebeka, and Harley Villafranca all from Harlingen; father Ismael Villafranca; three brothers, Aniceto (Mary) Villafranca and Noe (Selena) Villafranca both from Harlingen, Ismael (Nelda) Villafranca of Scott Bluff, Nebraska; four sisters, Janie (Manuel) Martinez, and Nora (Joe) Munoz both of Harlingen, Letty (Joel) Chapa of George West, TX, Norma (Felipe) Falcon of Rio Hondo. He is also survived by his father and mother in-law Raul and Hortencia Penaflor; one sister-in-law Mary Penaflor all from Harlingen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 4, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Mont Meta Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Catholic Church in Harlingen.
Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, TX. Pallbearers will be Noe Villafranca, Ismael Villafranca, Jr., Aniceto Villafranca, Louie Munoz, Eric Estrada, Joaquin Diaz III. Honorary pallbearer will be Raul Arriazola.

Daniel Ayala
LA FERIA, TX — Daniel Ayala, 58, passed away Tuesday morning at his residence in La Feria.
Mr. Ayala was a Fourth Degree Knight and a Member of the Knights of Columbus of Mercedes and a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus of La Feria; he also served as a Member of the American Legion of Mercedes.
He is preceded in death by a son, Daniel Ayala, Jr.; a brother, Mike Ayala; a half-sister, Gracie Ayala and his father, Jesus Ayala.
He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Janie G. Ayala of La Feria; one son, Johnathan (Michelle) Ayala also of La Feria; two daughters, Lisa (Orlando) Montalvo of La Feria and Diana (Marco) Longoria of Laredo; his mother, Adela R. Ayala of Mercedes; two brothers, Jesus (Delia) Ayala of Donna and Javier (Lalie) Ayala of Brownsville; four sisters, Berta (Eden) Hinojosa of Weslaco, Rosalie (Calvin) Patrick of Corpus Christi, Aida Vasquez of Mercedes and Yolanda (Ramon) Martinez of Donna; two half-sisters, Esperanza Fuentes of Pharr and Graciela Rodriguez of Chicago. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Shiann Montalvo, Syerra Montalvo, Ethan Montalvo, Kassandra Longoria, Marco Longoria, Jr. and J-Nathan Ayala.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 500 S. Canal in La Feria.
A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria, with Father Carlos Zuniga officiating. military rites will be conducted after the funeral Mass under the auspices of VFW Post 2410 and the American Legion Post 205; cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of La Feria.
Pallbearers will be Vero Salas, Eden Hinojosa, Jesus Ayala, Javier Ayala, Javier Noyola and Lupe Noriega; honorary pallbearers will be employees of Lockheed-Martin.

Micaela Torres
Lawrenceville, GA/Harlingen, TX — Micaela Torres, 55, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 3, 2003 in Lawrenceville, Georgia with her husband of 34 years by her bedside. Micaela was born on June 12, 1948 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ezequiel Torres of Harlingen; her sons, Francisco "Cody" Torres of Harlingen, Jesus "Jesse" Torres, Gerardo Torres, Rolando "Rolly" Torres, and Roy Torres all of Atlanta, GA; her daughters, Mary (Juan) Martinez and Carmen (Jose Luis) Rangel both of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, Samantha, Johnny, Micaela, Frankie, Cody, and Marcus.
Visitation hours will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary to be said at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum in San Benito.

Ann Roberta Mobley
SAN BENITO, TX — Ann Roberta Mobley, 88, slipped away peacefully late Sunday evening, August 3, 2003 after a brief stay at Triumph Northwest Hospital in Houston.
Ann was born August 4, 1914, in Amarillo, Texas. She was the first child of Gottlieb and Victoria Bilgri who had immigrated from Bavaria, Germany.
After attending a local Catholic High School and College, she married William Brock Mobley on November 25, 1937. When "B" joined the Army, Ann spent several years making a home wherever his military career took them, finally settling in San Benito.
While "B" farmed, Ann was busy raising a family and became very active in local organizations including the Brownsville Art League, San Benito Library, Junior Service League and was a past president of Chapter L of P.E.O.
In addition to her husband, Ann was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Bilgri and her parents, Gottlieb and Victoria Bilgri.
She is survived by son, Robert Mobley (wife, Mary Ann) of Kerrville; daughter, Suzanne Mobley Rigby (husband, Ray) of Houston; grandchildren, Stacy Rigby Morton (husband, Sean) of Houston, Shannon Mobley Ament (husband, Jack) of Kerrville,Hunter Mobley (wife, Keri) of Kerrville and Ashley Mobley Middleton (husband Rob) of Kerrville; great grandchildren, Taylor Morton, Austin Morton, Logan Morton, Ryan Ament, Jackson Ament, Haydn Mobley, Daysun Mobley; her sister, Polly Rockwell of Roswell, New Mexico and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the United States and Bavaria, Germany.
Visitation will be held at San Benito Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family being present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Father Pat Seitz officiating. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Dick Welch, Forrest Garling, Rob Middleton, Ray Rigby, Kurt Holmes and Michael Scaief.

TEMPLE, TX — Jerry Don "J.D." Knox Jr., 33, of Belton died Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday a Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with the Minister Joe Stroud officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Belton.
Mr. Knox was born in Weslaco to Jerry D. Knox Sr. and Judy Knox. He was a member of Leon Valley Church of Christ.
Survivors are his parents, of Belton; a brother, Jason Knox of Troy; maternal grandmother, Lois Votaw of Salado; and paternal grandmother, Pat Knox of Raymondville; sister-in-law, Amy Knox, of Troy; and nephew, Cooper Knox, of Troy.

Mrs. Manuela V. Burnias
OLMITO, TX — Mrs. Manuela V. Burnias, "Granny", 95, of Olmito, Texas entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 6, 2003. She was born in Brownsville, Texas and was a life long resident of Olmito.
Granny died peacefully at her home surrounded by her sons and daughters. Mom will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Mrs. Burnias was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Burnias Sr.; her parents, Leonardo Villarreal Sr. and Evarista Jauregui; son, Osvaldo Esquivel Sr.; grandsons, Osvaldo Jr., Oscar, and Rolando Esquivel; brothers, Hipolito, Pablo, and Luciano Villarreal and; and son-in-law, Noley Rumble.
Survivors include her children, Alicia Burnias, Reynaldo Burnias Sr. (Gracie), Frank Burnias Jr. (Rosie), and Enrique Esquivel (Amada) of Olmito, Emilia B. Garcia (Lupe), Celina B. Perez (Encarnacion), and Merced Burnias Sr. (Arminda) of Los Fresnos, Lala Rumble of Abilene, Ramiro Burnias (Amparo) and Tanis Esquivel (Gloria) of Brownsville, Oscar Burnias (Ana) of Houston and daughter-in-law, Maria Esquivel of Watsonville, California. Siblings surviving include, Francisca Beltran and Isabel Jaramio of Brownsville, Aurora Arzola and Consuelo Flores of Dallas, and Leonardo Villarreal Jr. of Laureles, Texas. Also surviving her are 32 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today, August 8, 2003 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Our Heavenly Father Church in Olmito, Texas.
Mrs. Burnias will lie in state Saturday, August 9, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Our Heavenly Father Church in Olmito. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m.
Father Joe Villalon will be the officiant.
Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Merced Burnias Jr., Rudy Burnias, Mark Anthony Burnias, Eric Anthony Burnias, Encarnacion Perez Jr.and Richard Ledesma.
Honorary pallbearers will also be her grandsons, Rey Burnias, Jr., Joel Burnias, Michael Burnias, Greg Burnias, Rene Burnias, Mario Perez, Leo Perez, Joel Esquivel and Enrique Esquivel, Jr.

Virginia Anderson
SAN BENITO, TX — Virginia Elizabeth Knoch Anderson, age 80, passed away August 5, 2003, in Houston, Texas. She was born in Lincoln, Kansas and moved to San Benito in 1956.
She worked for South Texas Lumber & Supply for 34 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Benito and a member of P.E.O. Chapter CW.
She is survived by daughters, Jacque Anderson, Katie (D.D) Jackson; son, Jon (Patricia) Anderson; and grandson, David Knoch Jackson.
A memorial service will be held at Thomae Funeral Home, 701 N. Bowie St., San Benito on Saturday, August 9, 2003, at 2 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers are Art Nowakowski, Jim Benson, Bill McBride, Ignacio Elizondo, Rob Burley, Hunter Scales, Vic Carrington and Larry Drake.

HARLINGEN — Alexis Nicole Perez, 1 year 7 months old, entered into rest on Friday at her residence.
She is survived by her loving parents Rogerio and Sandra Perez of Harlingen, TX; maternal grandparents Aristeo and Maria Castillo; paternal grandparents Rogerio and Rita Perez; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, August 10, 2003 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Angels with the Holy rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.

Juan Huerta Sr.
HARLINGEN — Juan Huerta, Sr. 81, entered into eternal rest on Thursday at Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital in San Benito, TX. Mr. Huerta was a longtime resident of Harlingen and was the owner of Huerta Upholstery Shop. He proudly served his country during W.W. II in the United States Army. He was a very active member of the United Veteran’s Organization.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Dolores Pinon; father, Jesus Huerta; and grandson Jaime Huerta, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Maria Z. Huerta of Harlingen, TX; children Herlinda Salazar of Harlingen, TX, Noemi (Joe) Padilla of Grand Prairie, TX, Juan (Connie) Huerta, Jr. of Harlingen, TX, Minerva (Henock) Perez of Harlingen, TX, Yolanda (Heron) Perez of Roma, TX, Graciela (Raul) Guajardo of Donna, TX, Jaime (Jovita) Huerta of Harlingen, TX, Elizabeth (Buddy) Short of Grand Prairie, TX, Ramiro Huerta of Harlingen, TX; 23 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; brothers Genaro Gonzalez, Joe Pinon; sisters Aurora Gonzalez, Ramona Vega, Maria Luisa Pinon, Maria del Refugio Mendez, Eva Martinez and numerous other family members.

HARLINGEN — Marciano Gonzales, our beloved father, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ at age 90 years old on august 8, 2003.
He is proceeded in death by his daughter baby Ruth Gonzales, Jose Juan Gonzales, and Marciano Gonzales Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife Clara Rocha Gonzales of 70 years; his children, Gilbert (Tala)Gonzales, Delia Gevara, Maria (Abel) Canales, Rosa Juarez, Noemi (Alfredo) Garza, Ruth (john) Garcia, Hector (Linda) Gonzales, Sandra Villarreal, Homer (Paula) Gonzales; and 33 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren.
