Ardean McDaniel
WESLACO, TX — Ardean McDaniel, 80, passed away Thursday,
May 15, 2003 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
He was a lifelong resident and farmer of Weslaco
and the Mid-Valley area.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard a
landing ship during World War II. He was a member of the Progreso
Co-op Gin and the First Baptist Church in Weslaco, where he was
Deacon for 52 years.
He was also a Rotarian, was voted Rotarian of the
Year in 1992, and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship
Award.
He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father
and husband and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, LaVonne
McDaniel of Weslaco; his sons, Paul McDaniel of Weslaco, David
McDaniel of McAllen and Timothy McDaniel of Mercedes; his daughters,
Ester Johnston and Elizabeth Vann, both of Bedford, Texas.
He is also survived by three brothers, Rev. Bill
McDaniel of San Antonio, Bobby McDaniel of Weslaco and S.D. McDaniel
of Zapata, TX; and two sisters, Venea Kent of San Antonio and
Helen Moore of San Marcos.
Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, May
17, 2003 at 11 a.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel, 900 W. 4th
St. in Weslaco officiated by Rev. BIll McDaniel, assisted by Rev.
Dr. Jonathan Becker, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Weslaco.
Interment will follow at Sacred Park Cemetery in
Mercedes.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Crist, Terry
Polvado, Mark Casciato, Dwayne Koets, Don McDaniel and Gerry McDaniel.

Teresa Sanchez
MERCEDES, TX — Teresa Sanchez, 86, passed away Thursday
at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dionicio
and Agustina Sanchez; a brother Timoteo Sanchez and a sister,
Luisa Sanchez-Gonzalez and is survived by three brothers, Antonio
Sanchez and Jose Sanchez both of Mercedes, Francisco Sanchez of
Weslaco; a sister, Julia Gonzalez of Mercedes; also surviving
are numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary was prayed Friday evening at 7 p.m. at
the funeral home chapel.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at
Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes. Interment will
follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia &
Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.
Yhona Russell Wood
WESLACO, TX — Our mother and grandmother, Cecilia
Yhona Russell Wood, 89, was called to be with her Lord and Savior
on Friday, May 16, 2003.
A longtime Weslaco resident, Yhona, known as Bobbye
to her friends, was born on January 26, 1914 in Oklahoma on an
Indian Reservation and was given the name Yhona by an Indian princess
named Toonicey Parker. "Mamaw", as she was known to
her grandchildren and great grandchildren, came to the Valley
as a child with her parents, Pernie and Bill Boles, who were early
pioneers in the farming and citrus industry north of Weslaco.
Yhona married J.D. Russell in 1933 and they farmed north of Weslaco
and raised three sons. After J.D.’s death in 1971, Yhona married
Roy Wood and thereafter moved to Southern Comfort Resort. "Mamaw"
doted on her grandchildren and spent hours teaching them her love
of arts and crafts and most especially her special love of handmade
dolls. She was also an avid bowler.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, J.D. Russell
and Roy Wood; her parents; and her brothers, Bill Boles, Jr. and
Jesse Boles.
She is survived by her three sons, Jesse Ray (Louella)
Russell, William B. Russell, all of Weslaco and Jimmie D. (Peggi)
Russell of Corpus Christi; eight grandchildren, Linda Russell
(Barry) Dickerson of Weslaco, Joseph W. Russell of Houston, John
R. Russell of Dallas, Jay (Michelle) Russell of Lewisville, Roy
Russell of Dallas, Leeann Russell (Scott) Farris of Euless, Andrea
Russell (Joey) Wrape of New Braunfels, and David (Shar) Russell
of Kingsland, GA; and ten great grandchildren. She was also loved
and tenderly cared for by her special caregivers, Julia Meave,
Rachel Mendiola and Rita Gonzalez.
Graveside services and interment will be held today,
Saturday, May 17, 2003 at 4 p.m. at Highland Memorial Park in
Weslaco. The officiant will be Joseph Wrape, Youth Minister of
the New Braunfels Church of Christ.
Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Funeral Home in Weslaco.
Jack Sandlin
HARILNGEN, TX — Jack Sandlin passed away May 14,
2003 in Seguin.
A graveside service and interment will be held Friday
May 16, 2003 at 2 p.m. at San Geronimo Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy
Roy officiating.
Visitation was held Thursday, May 15, 2003 from
3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to
7 p.m. at Goetz Funeral Home.
Jack was born October 26, 1942 in Harlingen, Texas
to Floyd "Friday" and Mabel Sandlin. He was a beloved
husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Kay Sandlin; children,
Trea Schmidt and husband Brian, Shawn Foley and husband Bob, Chris
Ticer, Baronne Barth and husband Barry and Denise Wood and husband
Brent; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings, Bill
Sandlin and wife Ava, Sylvia Timberlake, Marilyn Davenport, Bob
Sandlin and wife Bonnie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of
Guadalupe Valley Hospital.

Alpha Harold Ellis
HARLINGEN, TX — Alpha Harold Ellis, 83, passed away
on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Retama Nursing Center of Harlingen.
He will be dearly missed by his family, friends,
and all whos’ lives he touched. He was employed by the city of
Harlingen water works division for 38 years of service. He also
had a passion for painting, which are on display at the Calvary
Baptist Church of Harlingen. And was also an avid fisherman.
He is survived by one son, David H. (Darlene) Ellis
of Stockdale, Texas; three daughters, Carolyn Hunt of Stockdale,
Texas, June (Michael) Brown of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Patricia
(Stan) Kennedy of Harlingen, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 24 great
grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen Seal of Oplois, Kansas, and Alta
Cannon of Elliville, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2003
from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mont Meta/Restlawn/Cox Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 17,
2003 at 3 p.m. at Mont Meta Funeral Home. Interment will follow
at Mont Meta Memorial Park of San Benito.

Carolina G. Ransom
HARLINGEN, TX — Carolina G. Ransom, 93, entered
into rest on Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at La Hacienda Nursing Center
in Harlingen, TX.
Carolina was born in Cerralvo, N.L., Mexico on December
7, 1909 and has lived in La Feria since 1931.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfredo
C. Ransom, Sr. of La Feria in 1973 and by her parents, Sofia and
Pilar Solis Gutierrez.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmela (Robert)
Cantu of Spring, TX; son, Alfredo (Lupita) Ransom, Jr. of La Feria,
TX, Arturo (Belkys) Ransom of Spring, TX, Alberto (Sharon) Ransom
of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jorge (Candy) Ransom of Magnolia, TX;
21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren;
1 sister-in-law Consuelo Garza of Corpus Christi, TX; brother-in-law
Alberto (Alicia) Chavez of Harlingen, TX and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will be held today, Friday, May 16, 2003,
from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel of Peace
with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.
The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza
Palms Chapel on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. for a 10
a.m.
Catholic funeral service at St. Francis Xavier Catholic
Church with Deacon Juan Valenzuela as the Celebrant. Interment
will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Feria, TX.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Eric B. Earley
LONGVIEW, TX — Eric Brand Earley was born October
2, 1969 went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2003.
He was the son of Dean and Ava Earley of Longview,
Texas.
He is survived by his parents and immediate family
members: Kristin McKee, Shawn Earley, Daniel and Brittany Earley
and grandparents, Orval and Rachel Kracht of Tyler, TX.
Also surviving are extended family, to many to name,
but just as valuable to the family circle.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 16, 2003 at
the Thomae Funeral Home at 701 N. Bowie St. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
with graveside service to be held Saturday, May 17, 2003 at 5
p.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park under the direction of Thomae
Funeral Home of Bowie St., San Benito.

HARLINGEN, TX — Manuel De La Rosa, 62, entered into
rest on May 15, 2003.
Visitation will be held today, Friday, May 16, 2003
from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayd at 7 p.m. at the
Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen.
The funeral procession will deprt the Funeral Home
on Saturday, May 17, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. for a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian
Burial at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Viola G. Garza
SAN BENITO, TX — "In heaven, a never ending
welcome home party is waiting for our arrival. Our heavenly Father
will come and great us with open and loving arms. Jesus, our older
brother, will bring us a robe and a crown. And our hearts will
be overcome with joy and relief to finally be home to stay."
Viola was born on December 3, 1933 in San Benito,
TX and completed her journey on earth on May 12, 2003, after a
courageous battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her children, Ernestina
Garza and Henry Sepulveda; her husband, Horacio L. Garza; and
her parents, Olivia and Manuel Gonzales.
She is survived by her children, Garry (Yolanda)
Jordan, of San Isidro, Cindy Jordan of Rio Grande City, Crisanta
Garza of Tyler, TX, Dymphna Garza of Coral Gables, FL, Horacio
(Jamie) Garza Jr. of San Isidro, and Olivia (Gilbert) Guerra of
Kingsville. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving Viola are her brothers and sisters, Dolores Gonzales
of Rio Grande City, Olivia (Hector) Gutierrez of Kyle, TX, Rosario
(Ronnie) Varnado of Austin, TX, Jose (Melissa) Gonzales of Kyle,
TX, Manuel (Lupita) Gonzales of Harlingen, Gilberto (Concepcion)
Gonzales of Baton Rouge, LA, Gustavo (Magda) Gonzales of Palm
Desert, CA, Antonio (Barbara) Gonzales of Baton Rouge, LA, and
Homero (Teresita) Gonzales of Jacksonville, FL and numerous nieces
and nephews. She is also survived by friends, Jesus Cristo Villarreal
and Veronica Lopez.
Viola will be dearly missed by those whose life
she touched. A devout Catholic and Eucharist Minister, she prayed
the holy rosary for family, friends, and strangers alike as they
journeyed into heaven. She was employed at several cattle auctions
throughout the Rio Grande Valley for over 50 years.
The family would also like to express their gratitude
to Dr. Anton Bilchick and his staff at the John Wayne Cancer Institute,
Dr. Bernardo Alaniz and Dr. Salvador Chapa at San Jose Hosptial
in Monterrey, MX and Dr. Dwayne Hull for the care and dedication
provided to her during her battle.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions
be made to the John Wayne Cancer Institute (2200 Santa Monica
Blvd., Santa Monica CA 90404, attn: Maria Gonzalez).
The viewing will be held at Hernandez Funeral Home
in Rio Grande City from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a holy rosary recited
at 7 p.m. on May 14, 2003.
Funeral mass will be held at San Isidro Catholic
Church at 10 a.m. on May 15, 2003. Interment will follow at San
Juanito Cemetery.

Gabriel Loya
ENCINO, TX — Gabriel Loya, 75, passed away Wednesday,
May 14, 2003 at a McAllen Nursing Home.
Mr. Loya worked for the Texas Highway Dept. before
his retirement and recently worked for Don Brock as a Security
Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Lilly Loya of Encino;
his three sons, Hector (Silvia) Loya of McAllen; Gabriel (Alma)
Loya of Primera, and Michael (Delilah) Loya of Victoria; two daughters,
Noelia (Charles Crisantes) Elizondo and Vickie Loya of Corpus
Christi; three sisters, Angelica Loya of Nebraska, Lydia Arenas
of Los Fresnos, and Irma Navarro of Matamoros; five brothers,
Francisco Loya of Mercedes, Braulio Loya of La Feria, Jesus Loya
of La Palmas, Tamp., Blas Loya of San Juan and Juan de La Rosa
of Rio Bravo, Tamp.; 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Friday, May 16,
2003 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday,
May 17, 2003 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Encino. Interment
will follow at a private cemetery in Encino. Funeral arrangements
are under the direction of Howard Williams Turcotte Funeral Home
of Falfurrias.
