LA FERIA, TX — Dolores "Dena" J. Johnson, 71, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Dena was born on October 20, 1931 in San Benito, Texas to Andrew D. and Edna Ruth Johnson.
Dena was a retired Assistant Vice-President with First National Bank in San Benito. Dena was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lyford.
Dena is survived by her sister, Sharon Johnson of La Feria; brothers, Dow Johnson and Larry Johnson both of La Feria; nephew, Kenneth Wayne Johnson of Tuscon, AZ; niece, Lori Ann Hayes of San Antonio; aunts, Mrs. Gladys Johnson of Lake Whitney, TX and Mrs. Melissa Orr of Dallas; and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Maxine Johnson and her parents, Andrew D. and Edna Ruth Johnson.
Visitation hours will be held Friday, November 29, 2002 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Ken Soles officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Elizabeth Saldivar
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Elizabeth Saldivar, 47, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. She was born February 22, 1955 in Raymondville, Texas to Jesus M. and Maria (Santos) Saldivar.
Chapel service will be held Friday 10 a.m., November 29th, at Duddlesten Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Chavarria officiating. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery. A prayer service will be held Thursday 7 p.m. at Duddlesten Chapel.
She is survived by her mother, Maria Santos of Raymondville; six sisters, Mona (Jose) Rosales of Pharr, Margarita (Jose Eduardo) Villarreal, Rosa (Manuel Carlos) Valles and Cruz (Ruben) Martinez all of Raymondville, Tina (Rafael) Donez and April Saldivar all of San Antonio; five brothers, Arturo Saldivar of Raymondville, Manuel (Rosa) Saldivar of Harlingen, Ifray (Cristina), Jesse (Norma) and Javier Saldivar all of Raymondville. She is also survived by 11 nieces, Isabel Saldivar, Janny Rosales, Analisa Marie Saldivar, Janie Saldivar, Christina Lopez, Andrea Elizabeth Villarreal, Daisy Saldivar, Jeanette Saldivar, Michelle Saldivar, Hannah Saldivar and Bianca Nicole Donez; 8 nephews, Charly Vallez, Joe Rosales, Juan Manuel Saldivar, Jr., Joey Villarreal, Javier Saldivar, Jr., Jesse Saldivar, Jesus Ivan Saldivar and Raziel Martinez; 4 great nephews, Raiden Vallez, Omar Rosales, Marco Rosales and Jesus Zenon Lopez III.

Kenneth L. Krause
MERCEDES, TX — Kenneth L. Krause, 78, passed away Monday, November 25, 2002 at Knapp Medical Center. Ken was born January 9, 1924 in Russell, Kansas to Gustav R. and Caroline K. Krause. Ken married Bernice on July 14, 1946 in Russell, Kansas.
Ken and Bernice have been residents of Mercedes since 1990, formerly of Sedgwick, Kansas. Ken was a retired Engineer with Cessna Aircraft Company. Ken was a member of the First Baptist Church in Weslaco, Texas.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Bernice Krause; daughter, Connie Sturgeon; two grandchildren, Stacie Sturgeon, and Brent Sturgeon; one great grandchild, Kayla Sturgeon.
Ken was preceded in death by his son, Alan K. Krause.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Encore R.V. Park in Mercedes at 1 p.m. with Reverend Chris Rangel officiating.

Alberto "Checo"Almaraz
WESLACO, TX — Alberto "Checo" Almaraz, 80, passed away November 25, 2002 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Mr. Almaraz was a longtime Weslaco pioneer, a well known barber who owned and operated "Checo’s Barber Shop" in Weslaco, a member of the V.F.W. Post #10464, and a member of the Catholic War Veterans #770 for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Maria R. Almaraz; his mother, Trinidad P. Almaraz both of Weslaco; sons, Rosendo Almaraz of Weslaco, Ruben Almaraz of Weslaco, Javier Almaraz and Sergio Almaraz, both of Edinburg; daughters, Diana Perez of Corpus Christi, Elsa Martinez of Weslaco; 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are his sisters, Cleotilde Castro, Anita Gutierrez and brothers; Alex Almaraz, Guillermo Almaraz, Arturo Almaraz, Joe Garza and Carlos Almaraz.
Mr Almaraz was preceded in death by his son, Attorney George Almaraz in 1993.
A funeral mass will be celebrated today, Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at 1:00 P.M. at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.
military graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #2410 and the American Legion Post #205, both of Harlingen.

Nelson Brunnemann
UVALDE, TX — Nelson Brunnemann of Uvalde passed away on November 22, 2002 at his residence at the age of 75. He was born in Harlingen to Frank and Virda (Nelson) Brunnemann.
He graduated from Texas A & M in 1952 and was elected King Cotton in 1950 by the A&M student body. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion, and was an active member of the Republican Party.
He is survived by two daughters, Robin Nalley of Houston and Roxanne West of Dallas; three sons, Randy Brunnemann of Austin, Rod Warner of Uvalde, and Rob Morris of Arlington; sister, Laura Allison of Corpus Christi; brothers, Tony Brunnemann of McAllen and Cadwell Brunnemann of Oakhurst, CA; and nine grandchildren, Chase and Chance Brunnemann; Alexa, Hunter, Zachary, and Madison Nalley; and Amber, Summer, and Stetson Morris.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Uvalde, TX. A Masonic graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito, Texas.

LA FERIA, TX — Juan Carlos Anzaldua, 49, entered into rest on November 26, 2002 at his residence in La Feria, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Elida Aguilar Anzaldua and a nephew David Ruiz.
He is survived by his father Juan R. Anzaldua; sister, Sandra Ruiz; brother, Jose Alfredo Anzaldua all of La Feria, Texas.
He is also survived by two nephews, Esteban Ruiz, Jr, Daniel J. Garza and a niece Jenilee Ruiz.
Visitation will be held today, November 27, 2002 beginning at 8:00 a.m. with a rosary to be prayed today at 1:00 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel of Peace in La Feria.

Ruth A. Hankins
Ruth A. Hankins, 99, passed away Monday, November 25, 2002 at her residence in Harlingen.
Ruth was born in Blackwell, OK on December 10, 1902 to James and Estelle Poundstone.
Ruth had been a resident of Harlingen since 1947 moving here from Corpus Christi.
She was a longtime member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, where she actively served.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Beverly Long of Austin; granddaughters, Janet Lea Smith of Pflugerville, TX and Sheryl Weathers of Austin; grandson, Weldon P. Long (Teri) of Austin; great-grandchildren, Corey Smith, Courtney (Mike) Wehrman and Matt Burton, Shane Weathers, and Jeffrey Weathers; great great grandson, Ryan Wehrman; and a host of friends from Golden Palms Retirement Center in Harlingen where she had lived for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon Hankins on November 7, 1978.
Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with the family present.
Funeral services will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 10 a.m., Friday, November 29, 2002 with the Reverend David Reed officiating.

Billy G. Tomlinson
EL PASO, TX — Billy died November 18, 2002 at his home in El Paso, Texas.
He was born in Alvord, Texas on August 24, 1925 to B.B. and Virgie Tomlinson. He moved to the Lyford/Sebastian area in November 1941, and in 1959 moved to El Paso, Texas.
He was put to rest at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, TX. He served in the Army/Air Force 1943-1946 and served in World War II. He was a longtime member of the Montana Church of Christ.
He was survived by Jimmy (Corinth, Mississippi), Benny J. (El Paso, TX), Jack (Humble, TX), Rex (Acuff, TX), and Monty (Raymondville, TX).
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mickey Joe Tomlinson. He was also survived by a special friend, Almarene Bristol (El Paso, TX) and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be missed by all.
Gene H. Bock
HARLINGEN — Gene H. Bock, age 65, of Harlingen, departed this life on Saturday, November 23. 2002, in his home.
He was born November 9, 1937 in Matagorda CT, TX. He was a retired farmer and a long time cotton harvester.
Gene is one of 11 children born to Agnes and Hayden Bock. He is survived by his wife, Anita Bock; his daughters, Gina (Jerry) Carrillo, Debbie (Tim) Welch, and Judy (Rudy) Gonzalez; son, Troy Bock; 14 grandchildren, Troy Gene, Terri, Tracey, Kaleb, Jeri, Cody, Brandon, Regan, Gunnar, Steven, Henry, Adam, Nicholas, and Anthony.
He is also survived by four sisters, Mary Parr, Lois (Leon) Cates, Ruby (Steven) Hawles, and Cathy (Rick) Clark; four brothers, W.E. "Wick" (Melanie) Bock, Jr., Ernest (Linda) Bock, Kenneth (Becky) Bock and Garland (Sue) Bock.
Mr. Bock was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Hayden Bock and two sisters, Annie Doss and Betty Whitmire.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all.
The Bock family wishes to especially thank the Sandi Jo Funk Hospice for all of their kindnesses during Mr. Bock’s illness.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, until 9 p.m. at the Thomae Funeral Home Chapel at 701 N. Bowie St. in San Benito with Graveside services being on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park with the Reverend Jearl Petree.
His funeral will be under the care of Thomae Funeral Home.
