He is survived by his wife of 48 years Estefana Aguilar, children Arturo (Lisandra) Aguilar, Jr. of Brownsville, TX, Gerardo (Rosie) Aguilar of Santa Rosa, TX, Luis A. (Mary) Aguilar of Santa Rosa, TX, Lupita (Rolando) Diaz of Combes, TX, Raul Aguilar of Laredo, TX, Marisol (Cruz Garcia) Aguilar of Weslaco, TX, 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brothers Antonio Aguilar, Jr. Holland, MI, Gustavo Aguilar of Santa Rosa, TX, Jesse Aguilar of La Feria, TX, and Ruben Aguilar of Santa Rosa, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents Antonio G. Aguilar and Manuela S. Aguilar.
Pallbearers will be Antonio Aguilar, Jr., Gustavo Aguilar, Jesse Aguilar, Ruben Aguilar, Frank Torres, Jr., Raul Aguilar, Jr., and honorary pallbearers will be his sons Arturo, Gerardo, Luis, and Raul. Visitation will begin today at 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday, December 2, 2002 at 10 a.m. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, TX. Burial will follow at Santo Nombre Cemetery.

Veronica Garcia
SAN BENITO — Veronica Garcia, 14, went with the Lord on November 28, 2002 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. She attended Berta Cabaza Middle School in San Benito and played soccer and other sports. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in San Benito.
She is survived by her parents Jesus and Tomasa L. Garcia; 4 sisters Maria Guadalupe Garcia, Maria Del Carmen Garcia, Margarita Farias, Martha Laura Liscano; 3 brothers Jesus Garcia Jr., Antonio Garcia, and Gilbert Garcia all of San Benito; maternal grandmother Maria Gomez Leija of San Benito; 8 nieces and 7 nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2002 with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Monday at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Arturo Garcia, Santos Liscano, Ismael Farias, Roy Leija, Ernesto Valero and Antonio Garza.

Sixto C. Garza
PRIMERA — Sixto C. Garza, 85, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 30, 2002.
He is survived by his sisters Eloisa Garza of Primera, TX, Avelina Gonzalez of Combes, TX, Bertha (Pedro) Campos of Primera, TX, Frances (Carlos) Salazar of Primera, TX, brothers Rodolfo Garza of Harlingen, TX, Victor (Raquel) Garza of Dade City, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Jose Garza and Celestina Villanueva.
He was a WW II veteran serving under General McArthur in New Guinea. Visitation will begin today at 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday, December 2, 2002 at 10 a.m. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harlingen, TX. Burial will follow at Harlingen City Cemetery.

T. L. George
MONTE ALTO — T. L. George, 81, passed away at Scott- White Hospital in Temple, TX on November 28, 2002. He was born to H. A. George and Lily S. George on February 8, 1921 in Mercedes, TX. T. L. graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School.
After faithful service in the Navy during W.W.II, he worked for Anderson Clayton Equipment Co. in Pecos, TX and was then moved to the McCamey area to farm and manage a Co-op gin. In December 1969 he relocated to the La Villa area where he began a longtime career as general manager of the Elsa Co-op Gin where he remained until his retirement in 1994. While manager there he served on many local boards and was a state director for the Texas Cotton Ginners Assn. and for the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council. He was awarded the Ginner of the Year Award by the T.C.G.A. in 1995. While living in the valley, he served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Edcouch and was a past member of the Monte Alto Lions Club and the Cotton and Grain Board.
He is survived by his current wife Marie Bartnesky George of Belton; son Gary George (Lavena) of Sugarland; daughter Karen Henderson (David) of Gunter; daughter Melinda Berg of Monte Alto; step-daughter Mary Frances Serota of Belton; step-sons, Daniel Bartnesky and Mark Bartnesky, both of Ponchatoula, LA and Ken Bartnesdy of Caldwell, TX. Also surviving are his brothers Cantley George (Sybil) of Bethney, OK, Heidrick George (Jonnie) of Corpus Christi, TX and 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Faye Evel Jones George in 1994; father H. A. George; mother Lily S. George and sister Marcela O’Malley.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, December 1, 2002 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2002 at 10 a.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home, 900 N. 4th St. in Weslaco with Rev. Ken Soles officiating the service. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Serving as pallbearers will be Hollis Sullivan, Joshua Rivas, Bobby Odom, Fred Traylor, Bill Turberville and Jimmy Carlson, with grandsons serving as honorary pallbearers. Antonio O. Rodriguez
SANTA MARIA, TX — Antonio O. Rodriguez, 76, passed away Tuesday morning at his residence.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Luisa De Leon, and a brother, Samuel Rodriguez.
He is survived by his wife Francisca R. Rodriguez of Santa Maria; three sons, Antonio Rodriguez, Jr. of Watsonville, CA, Ramiro Rodriguez and Roberto Rodriguez both of Gaylord, MN; four daughters, Ana Maria Alvarado of Salinas, CA, Amanda Godinez of Castorville, CA, Maria Jacinta Jaquez and Maria Eugenia Rodriguez both of Gaylord, MN; one sister, Ofelia Salas of Salinas, CA; also surviving are seventeen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation took place Friday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held today, Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Ann Catholic Church in Santa Maria, burial will follow at El Zacatal Cemetery also in Santa Maria.

Paul Bruce
SAN BENITO, TX — Paul Bruce, a longtime San Benito resident died Thursday, November 28, 2002. Paul was born in Tulia, Texas on March 27, 1905. Paul graduated from the University of Texas and began his dedicated career with the United States Postal Service until his retirement.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Mabel Landrum Bruce, in 1999.
He is survived by his cousins, Lois Landrum; nephews, Charles Landrum and Richard Landrum and nieces, Carla Landrum, Christine Landrum and Maxine Stout.
A graveside service will be held Monday, December 2, 2002 at Mont Meta Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m. under the direction Thomae Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by All Saints Episcopal Church of San Benito.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to All Saints Episcopal Church of San Benito.

Martina H. Zarate
LA SARA, TX — Martina H. Zarate, 82, passed away Friday, November 29, 2002 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. She was born November 12, 1920 at Missouri City, Texas to Guadalupe and Sostenes (Zapata) Hernandez. She lived in La Sara most of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Pilar Zarate of La Sara; two daughters, MA. Guadalupe Rodriguez of Angleton, TX and Carlota Zarate of La Sara; two sons, Pilar Zarate, Jr. of Angleton and Juan Zarate of Orange Cove, CA; two sisters, Roberta Garcia of Mathis, TX and Anita Nieto of Fort Worth; half-brothers and sisters, Guadalupe, Viola, Juanita, Reynaldo and Elias Hernandez all of Mathis, TX. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held today Saturday 1:00 p.m., November 30th, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in La Sara. Burial will follow at La Sara Cemetary. A Rosary was held Friday, 7:00 p.m. at Dudlesten Chapel.

Garcia of Harlingen, TX, son, Ysrael (Elida) Alvarez of Harlingen, TX, son, Leandro (Dominga) Alvarez of Primera, TX, son, Francisco (Gloria) Vuittonet of Harlingen, TX; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin today at 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Christine R. Doherty
HARLINGEN — Christine R. Doherty, 81, entered into rest on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at her Harlingen Country Club residence in Harlingen, TX. Christine was born on Feb. 12, 1921 in Atlanta, TX, to William Mercer and Carrie Norton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Gordon W. Doherty on Feb. 27, 1991and by her brother William Mercer Norton. She is survived by her loving family: son Gordon W. (Cheri) Doherty, Jr. of Seattle, WA., daughters Maureen A. Doherty of Houston, TX, Kathleen D.(Richard) Kotara of Houston, TX, sister Eris Gilroy of Chicago, IL., brothers Donald M. Norton of Ft. Worth, TX., Pat Norton of Austin, TX., grandchildren Lauren Doherty, Christi Kotara, Colin Kotara, Kelly Doherty, Carrie Doherty, seven nephews and seven nieces. Christine was a graduate of Eastern New Mexico Jr. College in Portales, NM, Baylor University School of Nursing in Dallas, TX. and from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI., where she received her RN degree. Mrs. Doherty proudly served her country during WW II. She received her training as a U.S. Army Flight Nurse at Enid Army Airfield in Enid, OK. She was a 1st Lt. in the 13th. Squadron of the 801st Medical Air Evacuation Squadron stationed in Tacloban Airstrip, Leytte, Philippines, where she served from 1943-1945, evacuating military personnel. After WW II, she joined the Army Reserve and rose to the rank of Major serving as the Operating Room Supervisor at the Veterans Hospital in Dearborn, MI.
The family wishes to thank Christine’s caregivers, Mandy and Rita, and Dr. John Ferris for all their love, attention and support.
Visitation will be held today from 10 am until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6pm until 8pm at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at 3 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace. Interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date at Mountain View Cemetery in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Dolores Johnson
LA FERIA, TX — Dolores "Dena" J. Johnson, 71, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Dena was born on October 20, 1931 in San Benito, Texas to Andrew D. and Edna Ruth Johnson. Dena was a retired Assistant Vice-President and Cashier with First National Bank in La Feria. Dena was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lyford.
Dena is survived by her sister, Sharon Johnson of La Feria; brothers, Dow (Geneva) Johnson and Larry Johnson both of La Feria; nephew, Kenneth Wayne Johnson of Tuscon, AZ; niece, Lori Ann Hayes of San Antonio; aunts, Mrs. Gladys Johnson of Lake Whitney, TX and Mrs. Melissa Orr of Dallas; and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Maxine Johnson and her parents, Andrew D. and Edna Ruth Johnson.
Visitation hours will be held Friday, November 29, 2002 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Ken Soles officiating.

Bernice Smalley
HARLINGEN — Bernice Smalley, 78, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen.
Mrs. Smalley was born February 13, 1924 in Iredell, TX to John and Sarah McMillin and moved to the Valley in 1932. She married Robert Smalley in 1941 and had previously lived in San Juan from 1949-1989; she moved to Harlingen to be near her daughter. She worked as a LVN at McAllen General Hospital and San Juan Nursing Home for many years, and was a member of The First Baptist Church in San Juan.
Mrs. Smalley was preceded in death by her husband Robert; son Lonnie; sister’s Elsie, Elva, Hazel, Blanche, Pearl and Ruth; and by a brother Jack.
She will be greatly missed by those who survive her; daughter Sarah Smalley of Harlingen; a brother George (Johnnie Jo) McMillin of Mesquite, TX; and by a granddaughter Hannah Smalley of Harlingen.
Visitation will be today, Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. with family present to greet friends at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home in Pharr. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, 10 a.m. at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Flanagan of the First Baptist Church in Pharr officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jack Penn, Chris Brush, Bill Baker, and Clayton Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers-in-law John Flickinger, Robert Burns and Bill Turner, in addition to Bill Stowe, Jimmy Baker and Steve Malone.
Special thanks go to Dr. John Ferris, Dr. Darvey Fuller, Dr. Leslie Pean, and to Dr. Farley Neasmon for their loving tender care. She will be missed by all those who called her "Granny."
