Elsie Knetig
Services for Elsie Knetig, 50, of Slocum will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Broyles Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Butch Grant and the Rev. Larry Bowman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Ms. Knetig died Monday at her residence.
She was born April 1, 1955 in Crockett to Euel Clemint and Melvina Staples Davis.
Ms. Knetig was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ms. Knetig is survived by her daughters, Tina Till and husband Steve, and Rebecca Freeland, all of Slocum; granddaughter, Destaney Till of Slocum; two grandsons, Chris Boone and Cory Freeland of Slocum; four sisters and three brothers.

Ethan Aaron Nicholson
Services for Ethan Aaron Nicholson, 27, of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Rick Dees and Harold Fox officiating. Special music will be by Jeff McCreight and Mark Lara. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mr. Nicholson died Saturday in Palestine.
He was born June 15, 1978, in Palestine.
Mr. Nicholson was a graduate of Coronado High School in Lubbock and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a ham radio operator, lover of electronics, and was a gifted musician.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dorothy and Herbert Nicholson.
Mr. Nicholson is survived by his father and stepmother, Calvin and Kathryn Nicholson of Palestine; mother, Vicki Seckler Love of Lubbock; sons, Hunter Gage Nicholson of Rusk and Christian Kyle Nicholson of Conroe; sisters, Jennifer Matthews and husband Keith of Montgomery and Stephanie Lucas and husband Jimmy of Palestine; brother, Jerrett Christopher Nicholson and wife Katy of Virginia Beach; stepbrother, Shawn O’Connor of The Woodlands; grandparents, Dorothy and Bill Oldham of Palestine; niece, Alicia Nicholson; and nephew, Dennis Nicholson.
Pallbearers will be Sidney Walston, Albert Hassell, Larry Bowermaster, Bobby Britt, Mike Tillery and William Keith Seckler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn O’Connor, Jennifer Matthews, Stephanie Lucas, Jerrett Nicholson, Spencer Hassell, Jimmy Lucas and Keith Matthews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Herbert L.J. Landry
Services for Herbert L.J. Landry, 77, of Buffalo will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Buffalo Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Welch officiating. Burial will follow at St. Leo the Great Catholic Cemetery in Centerville.
Mr. Landry died Saturday in Tyler.
Donald McLemore
Donald McLemore, 71, of Elkhart, and formerly of Los Angeles, Calif., died Friday.

LaVaughn Beaird
Services for LaVaughn Beaird, 84, of Palestine were at 3:30 p.m. today at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Kimberly Orr officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. Beaird died Sunday at Cartmell Home for Aged.
She was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Idabel, Okla. to the late Clarence and Hattie Cannon Moreland.
Mrs. Beaird had lived in Palestine for 21 years and was a member of Westwood United Methodist Church. She received an associate’s degree in nursing and was a volunteer for many years at the local hospital, Montalba Community Center and Palestine Senior Center. She also was a member of the Air Force Officers’ Wives Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LTC Norris Dalton Beaird, in May 2001.
Mrs. Beaird is survived by a son, Norris D. Beaird Jr. of Austin; daughters, Suzanne Brauer of Lenexa, Kan. and Elizabeth Marshall of Palestine; sister, LaVerne Sexton of North Carolina; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Honorary pallbearers were James Becker, Howie Brauer, Adam Brauer, Nathan Beaird, Sasha Brauer, Jenna Beaird and Clyce Marshall.
Memorials may be made to the Westwood United Methodist Church Kitchen Fund, 110 Ridgewood Dr., Palestine, Texas 75803.
Betty Carrico Brooks
Betty Carrico Brooks was born on Oct. 19, 1949 in Lufkin to the late Troy and Clemmie Carrico.
She went to be with the Lord on Jan. 2 in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents of Montalba; and brothers, Wayne Carrico and David Carrico.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Brooks of Cypress; sons, Kris Bernardo of Huntsville, Troy Bernardo of the Woodlands, Michael Bernardo of Dallas; and one grandson, Brandon Bernardo of Houston.
She also is survived by a sister, Doris (Hershell) Walthall of Montalba; brothers, Kenneth (Frankie) Carrico of Houston, Curtis Carrico of Palestine, Dale (Beckie) Carrico of Montalba; and sister-in-laws, Margaret Carrico of Chandler and Betty Lou Carrico of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She also is survived by a loving stepfather, Jim Warren of Athens; stepbrothers, Bob (Quita) Warren of Baxter, Mike (Paula) Warren of Athens and Gary (Toni) Warren of Frankston.
A memorial service will be held at Chapel Woods Methodist Church (Mercy Street) in Houston at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or an organization of your choice.

Services for John Henry Newsom, 78, of Palestine will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood City Cemetery with Rodney Box officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Newsom died Monday at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
