Sereta Moore
Services for Sereta Moore, 77, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Joe Warren officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Moore died Wednesday at Hospice Home Place in Tyler.
She was born July 1, 1925, in Palestine to Hubbard Henry and Holly Johnston Warren.
Mrs. Moore had worked for Davis Refrigeration as a bookkeeper. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by sister, Clara Stevens; and brother, Henry Warren.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her husband, V.E. “Sug” Moore of Palestine; daughters, Veda Holcomb of Palestine and Kandas Babbs of Athens; sister, Willie Mae Tucker of Palestine; brother, Haden Warren of Palestine; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Stevens, Elmer Stevens, Wade Warren, Breck Dodd, Shane Carter, Zeke Sekol and H.K. Crouch.
Henry Lee Simpson
Services for Henry Lee Simpson, 70, of Jewett, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church in Jewett with the Rev. Algie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Jewett under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home in Teague.
Mr. Simpson died Monday in Houston.
He was born on March 15, 1932 in Jewett to Early and Nola Haynes Simpson.
Mr. Simpson attended Friendship Community School and Friendship Church of God in Christ.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Lee Simpson.
Mr. Simpson is survived by brothers, Joe Earl Simpson of Houston and John E. Simpson of Jewett.
Ivan Venthian Myers
Services for Ivan Venthian Myers, 50, of Ennis, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Baptist Church in Bardwell with the Rev. E.R. Murrell II officiating. Burial will follow in Ennis Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home
Mr. Myers died Monday in Henderson.
He was born Sept. 23, 1951 in Ennis to Ivan Venthian and Jessie May Myers Sr.
Mr. Myers attended East Texas State University in Commerce. He was a member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Bardwell.
He is survived by his wife, Pearlie Myers; sons, Jeffrey Goff-Myers and Ivan Goff-Myers; stepsons, Eric, Louis Jr. and Adark Jones; sisters, Vera Emanuel of Palmdale, Calif., Myrna Wymon of Shreveport, La., Lydia Smith of Los Angeles, Maude Robinson of Los Angeles, Delois Delaney of Lancaster and Cheri Hadley of Dallas; and brothers, Ellis Myers, Jessie Myers, George Myers and Brent Myers.
Gladys Wilson Roach
Services for Gladys Wilson Roach, 82, of Houston, and formerly of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bailey & Foster with the Rev. Tom Grissom officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Roach died Thursday morning at a Nursing Home in Houston.
She was born Aug. 9, 1919 in Jacksonville to J.W. and Harriett Childress Wilson.
Mrs. Roach married Kermit C. Roach on June 15, 1935 and moved to Palestine in 1943. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1944. She supported her church in many capacities including being a member of the church choir since 1972.
Mrs. Roach was a member of the Texas Retired Employees Association and various other organizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972; and a brother, J.R. Wilson.
Mrs. Roach is survived by a daughter, Patricia Pribilski of Conroe; son, Gerald Roach of Houston; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Craig Pribilski, Mike Darden, Bryan Whiteside, Chad Schneider, Paul Wilson, Billy Dodson and Willie Ward.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Grace United Methodist Church building fund, 209 W. Kolstad, Palestine, Texas 75801.
Wilbert Ross Jr.
Services for Wilbert Ross Jr., 71, of Trinity will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lone Star Baptist Church in Trinity with the Rev. Douglas DeBose officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Community Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home in Crockett.
Mr. Ross died Friday in Tyler.
He was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Walker County to Lucille and Wilbert Ross Sr.
Mr. Ross was a member of Bowen Pilgrim Church. He was a logger.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Ross; and a sister, Minnie Ross.
Mr. Ross is survived by his wife, Ella Jane Wheeler Ross of Trinity; daughters, Bertha English of Trinity and Saretha Wilson and Erma Wesley, both of Austin; sons, Larry Reed of Tyler and Jerry Reed of Trinity; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Fred Fuiten
Funeral arrangements for Fred Fuiten, 81, of Palestine, are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mr. Fuiten died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
JoAnn Tubbs Sheppard
Services for JoAnn Tubbs Sheppard, 93, of Corsicana, and formerly of Texas City, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Andrew Chapel Baptist Church of Oakwood with the Revs. Billy Joe Lewis and Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Bluff Cemetery in Oakwood under the direction of Ross and Johnson Mortuary of Corsicana.
Mrs. Sheppard died Sunday at Navarro Regional Hospital.
She was born April 25, 1908, in Oakwood.
Mrs. Sheppard was preceded in death by her husband, Ezell Sheppard; daughters, Elizabeth Johnson and Celestine Sheppard; and granddaughter, Jo Ann Johnson.
She is survived by six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
W.A. “Honey” Potts
Services for W.A. “Honey” Potts, 64, of Galveston, and formerly of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Compton Memorial Church of God in Christ in Galveston with the Rev. Robert E. Woodard III officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Magnolia Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary in Galveston.
Mr. Potts died Sunday in Galveston.
He was born April 13, 1937 in Anderson County to George and Gladys Hunt Potts.
Mr. Potts attended Green Bay High School. He was employed by Rogers Transfer and Storage, Todd Shipyard and Galveston Independent School District.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Potts is survived by his wife, Rose Mary Potts; daughters, Delois Savoy, Charmelle Potts, and Patricia Pink all of Galveston, Cecelia Fields and Sheila Taylor, both of LaMarque, Patricia Amos of Austin, Cheryl L. Potts of Waco and Lisa Potts of Clear Lake; a son, Wayne Potts of San Diego; sisters, Ollie Mae Martin of Palestine and Irma J. Burton of Galveston; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

James Calvin Smith
Services for James Calvin Smith, 37, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Chapel Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Robert Simmons Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith died March 30 in Beaumont.
He was born March 24, 1965 in Anderson County to Margie Nell and William Smith Sr.
Mr. Smith was educated in the Palestine public schools.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and brothers, David Earl Simmons and Robert Simmons Jr.
Mr. Smith is survived by his father; brothers, William Smith Jr. of Dallas, the Rev. Donnie Simmons of Houston and Willie Gene Smith of Palestine; sisters, Rondelon Deyon and Gloria Ann Smith, both of Dallas, and Debra Faye Simmons of Houston.
Male cousins will serve as active and honorary pallbearers.
Wonder Joyce Birdow-McCoy
Services for Wonder Joyce Birdow-McCoy, 49, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Concord Baptist Church in Dallas with the Rev. E.K. Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Old New Hope Cemetery in Tennessee Colony under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Birdow-McCoy died Thursday at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas.
She was born Aug. 29, 1952 to Cleo and Lettie Mae Nolley Birdow in Tennessee Colony.
Mrs. Birdow-McCoy received her education in the Cayuga ISD and graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce with a B.A. Degree.
She had been employed at the city of Dallas for 27 years. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Tennessee Colony and later attended Concord Baptist Church in Dallas. She was married to the Rev. B.W. McCoy.
Mrs. Birdow-McCoy was preceded in death by her father; and two brothers, Charles Birdow and Verlon Birdow.
She is survived by children, Donald Wayne McCoy and Adrinne Aurora Birdow of Dallas; her mother, Lettie Mae Birdow of Tennessee Colony; brothers, Cleo M. Birdow of Fort Worth and Elton Birdow of Tennessee Colony.
Rebecca “Becky” Rodgers
Services for Rebecca “Becky” Rodgers, 50, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. today at Roselawn Park with the Rev. Theo Johnson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Rodgers died Friday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
She was born Aug. 13, 1951 in Palestine to Robert Russell and Iola Walker Russell.
Mrs. Rodgers had been employed as an office manager at Neel Chevrolet in Oakwood.
She is survived by a daughter, Crystal Rodgers of Palestine; mother and stepfather, Iola and Sydney Hall of Palestine; father, Robert Russell of Amarillo; sister, Pam Lathrop of Buffalo; and brother, David Russell of Amarillo.
Pallbearers will be Chris Riggs, Dusty Riggs, Aaron Walker, Ben Cox and David Neel.
Lester Grady Owens
Services for Lester Grady Owens, 74, of Grapeland, will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jack Schoultz and the Rev. Kenny Bush officiating. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Owens died Wednesday at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
He was born Nov. 1, 1927 in Grapeland to Grady and Annie Lee Spruill Owens.
Mr. Owens was an auto mechanic and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was a resident of Winslow, Ariz. for 40 years before retiring to Grapeland.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Owens of Grapeland; daughters, Theresa Lee Williams of Happy Jack, Ariz., Geralyn Kay Owens of Grapeland, Julia Joy Owens and Delores Gay Owens, both of Holbrook, Ariz.; son, Scott Thomas Owens of Grapeland; sister, Bonnie Keen of Grapeland; brothers, Carol Owens and Billy Earl Owens, both of Grapeland, Bobby Owens of Longview and James Owens of Conroe; 15 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Scott Owens, Steve Owens, Tim Owens, Jimmy Owens, Carroll Wayne Owens, Mark Guthrie, Philip Guthrie and Jeff Owens.

Oda Mae Shanks
Services for Oda Mae Shanks, 95, of Fairfield, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Woodland Cemetery in Kirvin with Terry Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield.
Mrs. Shanks died Thursday at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia.
She was born Feb. 22, 1907 near McGregor.
Mrs. Shanks was a retired LVN, working for hospitals in Fairfield and Waco. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Cleave Thorn and Leroy Shanks.
Mrs. Shanks is survived by daughters, Betty Lou of California and Ruth Ibendahl of Seagoville; sons, Gary Thorn of Fairfield and William Thorn of Waco; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Misa Lee “Jack” Jackson
Services for Misa Lee “Jack” Jackson, 82, of Seaside, Calif., and formerly of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mason Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Jackson died July 24 at Sunbridge Care Center in Watsonville, Calif.
He was born Jan. 12, 1920 in Palestine to Sonny and Maggie Lacey Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was employed by the city of Seaside Parks and Recreation Department and as a wool finisher at Owl Cleaners. He was manager of the Seaside Bombers baseball team for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Hill Jackson of Seaside; sons, Willie Jackson and Larry Jackson, both of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Doris Foreman of Brownfield and Marie Smith Overton of Palestine.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
