Mr. Efrain Aurelio Vela
Mr. Efrain Aurelio Vela, 77, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999 in Pasadena Calif.
Aurelio was born and grew up in Laredo. He moved to California in 1956 and lived there till his passing. He worked for J.J. Newberry Stores for many years and for the Bendix Corporation for a few years till his retirement.
He is being missed tremendously by his family and many friends that he had. May he rest in peace in God’s Heavenly Kingdom.
He is survived by five sisters, Benilde (Antonio) Ramirez and Cristina (Javier) Garza, both of Laredo, Crisanta Vela of Pasadena, CA., Angelina (Ray) Moss of Harrison, AK., Irene (Fernando) Floyd of Fernandina, FL., Mary Monson of Monrovia, CA.; a brother, Jacobo (Alicia) Vela of Covina, CA.; 20 nieces and nephews; 24 grand-nieces and nephews; two great-great-grand nieces and nephews.

Blanca Martinez
Blanca Martinez, 38, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999 in Laredo. She was born in El Salvador, San Salvador.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Martinez of Laredo; two daughters, Sandra Araceli Garcia, Erica Teodora Garcia Deras; sons, Jose Alfonso Garcia Deras, Jimmy Antonio Martinez, William Alexander Maroquin.
Visitation will be held at Buitron Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999 from 9 to 11 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999.
Interment will be in the City Cemetery.

Hilario Torres Jr.
Hilario Torres Jr., 56, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999 in a local hospital.
Mr. Torres was born in Laredo and had been a resident here all of his lfe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilario and Dolores Torres, by a brother, Jose Torres and by a sister, Juanita Rodriguez.
He is survived by his children, Leonardo (Jennifer) Torres, Diana (Juan) Torres Murillo, Albert (Jacqueline) Torres and Araceli (Daniel) Pedroza; former wife, Rosario Luna; grandchildren, Kelsey Torres, Nathaniel Torres, Angela Torres, Joseph Torres, Alexandra Torres, Jacob Torres and Justin Pedroza; brother, Pedro (Rosalia) Torres; sister, Maria de Jesus (Roberto) Flores; aunt, Juanita Elizondo also, nephews, nieces and other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999 from 3 to 9 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave.
Funeral services will begin at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 23, 1999 from the Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Tomas H. Vela
Mr. Tomas H. Vela, 88, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999 in Laredo. He was born in Monclova Coahuila, Mexico.
Mr. Vela served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was a member of LULAC American Legion Post 59, Evening Lions, Alhambras, and Knights of Columbus Counsel 2304.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mrs. Rosa Garza Vela of Laredo; daughters, Rosa V. Lorden, Cecilia (Ruben) Garcia, Irma Vela of Laredo, Rebecca (Ricardo) Laosa of Lawrence, Kansas, Laura (Pat) Tarver of San Antonio, TX.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Estela) Hernandez of Claremore, OK.; and sister, Ana (Carlos) Acevedo of Brownsville, TX.
A rosary will be held at Buitron Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999 at 7 p.m. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999 at 8:30 a.m. The funeral procession will depart Buitron Funeral Home at 8:10 a.m.
Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.

Reynaldo Almaraz Sr.
Mr. Reynaldo Almaraz Sr. was called by our Lord on Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999 to join his angels in heaven.
He will be remembered by his family as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
His precious spirit will live on in the hearts of his children and people whom he touched.
Mr. Almaraz was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lupita G. Almaraz.
He is survived by his children, Reynaldo (Anna) Almaraz Jr., of California, Humberto (Carmen) Almaraz of Portland, Arnoldo (Noemi) Almaraz of Hebbronville, David Almaraz, Cynthia (Roberto) Ramirez, Leticia (Rolando) Saenz, all of Laredo. He will also be greatly missed by 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening, Dec. 22, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. in Hebbronville, TX. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999 from 4 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, Dec. 23, 1999 at 9:30 a.m. from Howard Williams Turcotte Funeral Home Chapel to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for a mass at 10 a.m.
Interment will be at the family plot at the Catholic Cemetery.

ZAPATA, TEXAS — Mr. Remigio Santos, 96, passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999 in Laredo. He was born in Lopeño, Texas.
Services were held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Zapata, TX. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999 at 9 a.m. The funeral procession departed Buitron Funeral Home in Zapata at 8:45 a.m.
Interment was in the Zapata County Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eloy Raul Martinez, Carlos S. Martinez Jr., Gilberto H. Santos, Mario A. Gonzalez, Eloy Santos Jr., and Daniel A. Santos.
Honorary pallbearers were all his grandchildren.

Victor Morales, 62, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999.
Mr. Morales was preceded in death by his parents, Maria del Refugio Santoyo Vasquez and Jesus Morales Espinosa.
He is survived by his wife, Silvia Lazos de Morales; children, Victor (Angelica) Morales, Rene Morales and Ileana Morales; grandchildren, Giovannie Lynn Salinas and Ashley Morales; brothers, Jose Morales Santoyo, Juan (Francisca) Morales, Jesus (Esther) Morales, Luz Maria (Daniel) Morales de Guerrero, Rosa (Juan) Morales de Lopez and Roberto (Violeta) Morales; sister-in-law, Ana Maria Lazos; mother-in-law, Rita Lazos; nieces, Armida Moreno, Carmen Morales; nephews, Leoncio (Rosy) Bueno, Lupe (Esmeralda) Bueno and Juan Bueno; also, other numerous nieces and nephews.
