Mabel Johnson
Services for Mabel Ferlene Wright Johnson, 93, of Waco, formerly of Palestine, will be at noon Thursday at Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Parker officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Johnson died Saturday in Waco.
She was born Aug. 30, 1908, in Waurika, Okla. to Theodore Russ Wright and Lela Sellers Wright.
Mrs. Johnson lived the past 18 months in Waco after living in Palestine since 1929.
She attended North Texas University and Sam Houston State University. She taught school in Anderson County for 10 years. She retired from the food service program of Palestine Independent School District in 1973.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church of Palestine.
She was awarded the Alumnus By Choice Award by the Baylor University Alumni Association.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Johnson, in 1970.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Wright Johnson of Waco; sister, Mary Catherine Wright Vaughn; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Shirley Fincher
Services for Shirley Fincher, 64, of Elkhart, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Revs. Dennis Morgan and Willie Reagan officiating. Burial will be in Strong Memorial Park.
Mrs. Fincher died Saturday evening at her home.
She was born Aug. 3, 1937 in Obelin, La. to James C. Dorsey and Curtis Young Dorsey.
Mrs. Fincher was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. She had been a nurse in the Elkhart Nursing Home and a school nurse for Elkhart independent school district.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eloise Perry and brothers, James C. Dorsey Jr. and Jesse Dorsey.
Mrs. Fincher is survived by husband, Jerry Fincher of Elkhart; daughters, Jeannie Peterson of San Antonio, Jerri Landes of Palestine, J.J. Fincher of Elkhart, Jeanette Fincher of Elkhart, and Jamye Fincher of San Antonio; sisters, Elsie Klier of Michigan, Emily Molanders of Baton Rouge, La., Mary Wallace of Oak Grove, La., Mattie Hodge of Mississippi and Audrey Sistrunk, both of Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be Steven Lammert, Chris Landers, Robert McCoy, Earnest Fincher, Wayne Perry and Roy Perry.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Services for Aline Alexander, 73, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Park East Funeral Home, Webster. Burial will be held at a later date in Forest Park East Cemetery.
Mrs. Alexander died Sunday in Houston.
She is survived by her husband, R.L. Alexander; daughter, Debbie J. Cooke; sons, Chuck Jones of Palestine and Gary Lynn Jones; sisters, Geraldine Reeder, Ruth Gibson, Robbie Terry and Elaine Bell; brothers, Haskell Moore and Ron Moore; a granddaughter and three great grandchildren.
Zackery Kayne Browne

Betty Jean Schmidt
Services for Betty Jean Schmidt, 76 of Elkhart, will be held at a later date under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home in Palestine.
Mrs. Schmidt died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.
She was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Tulia to Monty and Anita Pierce Stroud.
Mrs. Schmidt had lived in Anderson County since 1970 coming from Houston. She had worked for Borden Company in Houston and later was co-owner and operator of the family AAA Restaurants in Houston and Palestine from 1953.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church and a former member of the Harvey Woman’s Club.
Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harry H. Schmidt of Elkhart; sons, George Terry Schmidt and Harry Schmidt Jr., both of Elkhart; daughter, Debbie Ruth Dancer of Elkhart; brother, Fred Stroud of Elkhart; and two grandchildren.
Ellen Huenerberg
Services for Ellen Huenerberg, 78, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park.
Mrs. Huenerberg died Monday at her residence.
She was born Oct. 25, 1923 in Weimer to Earl Roland and Missouri Virginia Adams Barrick.
Mrs. Huenerberg was a homemaker and a member of Christ Community Church.
She is survived by her husband, Hardy Phillip Huenerberg of Palestine; daughters, Ginger Cook and Sue Kindred, both of Grapeland, Madeleine Martin of Flynn, Janette Hranitzky of Shiner, Phyllis Shirey of Palestine and LaVeene Tatum of Tomball; sons, Kenneth Meeks of Ramsey, Minn. and Jerry Huenerberg of Humble; sister, Bella Brown of Livingston; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Services for Mary Ellan Wilson, 67, of Jacksonville, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jerry Hawbaker and Mike McClure officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Troup.
Mrs. Wilson died Tuesday in Tyler.
She was born Aug. 25, 1934 in Elkhart.
Mrs. Wilson formerly worked on the loading crew at Powell’s Plant Farm in New Summerfield. She also was formerly a machine operator at Nichols-Kusan in Jacksonville and at Snoke’s Special Products in Jacksonville.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mixon.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband, John E. Wilson of Jacksonville; son, John Allen of Troup; daughter, Delores Odom of Jacksonville; brothers, Paul J. Munsinger and Curtis Munsinger, both of Jacksonville, Donald R. Munsinger of Palestine, and Billy W. Munsinger of Pennsylvania; sisters, Pauline Williams of Whitehouse, Charlsey A. Jakibuk of Troup and Virginia Woodall of Ore City; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Odessa Weisinger Porter
Services for Odessa Weisinger Porter, 85, of Houston, are pending. She will be cremated.
Mrs. Porter died Saturday in Houston following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 25, 1917 in Houston County to William Monroe and Sadie Kate Phillips Weisinger.
Mrs. Porter attended school in Grapeland and Elkhart. She was married to Mark William Porter Jr. on June 10, 1938, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Baptist Temple in Houston where she was active in the choir, the Ukelele Group, the Senior Singers and the Senior Sunday School class.
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her husband; and daughter, Ima Lee Higgins.
She is survived by daughter, Norma “Nicki” Lane Hightower of Palestine; son, Mark W. Porter III of Houston; sister, Ima Lea Pierce of Palestine; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Willie Mae Smith
Services for Willie Mae Smith, 51, of Houston, and formerly of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Cannan Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Price Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
Ms. Smith died Tuesday in Palestine.
She was born July 16, 1950 in Palestine to Johnnie Marie Smith.
Ms. Smith attended the Palestine ISD. She graduated from Palestine High School, and attended Prairie View A&M University, Texas Women’s University and Texas Southern University.
She received a bachelors’ degree and a master’s degree in nursing and education. She had credentials in fashion designing and food preparation. She was employed by Houston ISD, Herman Hospital for 20 years, and for Silver Spring Nursing Home.
Ms. Smith was a member of New Cannan Baptist Church. She later attended Holman Street Baptist Church in Houston. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son, Randy Smith of Houston; her mother, Johnnie Marie Smith; brothers, Robert Smith and the Rev. Dennis Smith, both of Palestine, and Darryl Smith of Houston; sister, Jackson Simon; and one great-granddaughter.
Bonnie Smith
Services for Bonnie Smith, 64, of Frankston, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson Funeral Home in Frankston. Burial will be in Wofford Cemetery in Frankston.
Mrs. Smith died Monday at her home.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, David Williams of Seagoville; daughters, Donna Reynolds of Palestine, Deborah Christy of Frankston and Linda Stanley, Betty Locklin, Janet Farmer and Nelda Meeks, all of Seagoville; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Albert Thomas York
Services for Albert Thomas York, 100, of Fairfield, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with Terry Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Lake Chapel Cemetery in Fairfield under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel.
Mr. York died Tuesday at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield.
He was born Sept. 15, 1901 in Fairfield to John M. and Leta Lemmon York.
Mr. York was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Riley York; a sister, Jewel Mayo; and a child, Janell York Neal.
Mr. York is survived by his wife, Rena Ivy York of Fairfield; sons, Buford York of Willis and Jerry York of Kerrville; a sister, Leta Faye Semmon of Shreveport, La.; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Peggy Jane Gore
Services for Peggy Jane Gore, 69, of Buffalo, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Buffalo Funeral Home with the Rev. Don White officiating. Interment will be in Siloam Cemetery near Buffalo.
Mrs. Gore died Monday at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 8, 1933 in Deport to Edgar and Stella Grant Hood. Mrs. Gore was a homemaker. She moved to Buffalo from Houston in 1980.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Gore, in 1999.
Mrs. Gore is survived by sons, Roland Gore of Big Spring and Rodney Gore of Buffalo; daughters, Tina Lee, Lisa Schultz and Ginger Pate, all of Buffalo; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Giles died Monday night at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 8, 1914 in Fairfield to William J. and Anna Robertson Giles.
Mrs. Giles was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. She was a cosmetician and worked for Bratton Drug.
She is survived by her husband, W.B. Giles of Palestine; sisters, Nora Jackson, Juanita Moser and Elizabeth Barber, all of Palestine; brothers, James Giles and L.V. Giles, both of Palestine.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hudson, Rusty Moser, Dennis Moser, Buddy Baker, Justin Morris and Pat Mannix.
