Bernice Hegler Kerbow
Services for Bernice Hegler Kerbow, 88, of Palestine, were set for 4 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Revs. Scott Dornbush and Beverly Tune officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Klondike Cemetery in Klondike with the Rev. Frank Boutwell officiating.
Mrs. Kerbow died Sunday at Cartmell Home for Aged.
She was born April 17, 1914, in DeKalb to James L. Hegler and Ada Pickens Hegler.
Mrs. Kerbow was a Christian and a member of First United Methodist Church of Palestine. She taught school in the Pasadena public schools for 36 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Kerbow, in 1950; two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Kerbow is survived by sons, James Ronald Kerbow of Houston, David Lawrence Kerbow of Dallas and Stephen Lee Kerbow of Palestine; brother, S.D. Hegler of Clearwater, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Miriam Kerbow Eppes, Hollis and Mellie Eppes, Sam Hegler, Alan Trimble and LaNelle Cox.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to First United Methodist Church of Palestine.
Virginia Lucille “Junie” Montgomery
Services for Virginia Lucille “Junie” Montgomery, 71, were at 1 p.m. today at Emanuel Funeral Home. Burial followed at Carroll Springs Cemetery in Athens.
Mrs. Montgomery died Saturday.
She was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Spring to Nathaniel and Lillian Smooth Wheeler.
Mrs. Montgomery was a housewife and a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Hughes Spring.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John W. Montgomery; brother, Dwayne Wheeler; grandson, K.C. Weber; and great-grandson, Andrew Fortune.
Mrs. Montgomery is survived by daughters, Sheila McIntyre of Daingerfield, Sharon Fortune of Hughes Spring, Sherry Rogers of Ada, Okla., Sheryl Rhine of Covington, Ga. and Sharla Neiman of Bois d’Arc; sister, Margaret Sandefer of Jacksonville; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
James Jefferson
Services for James Jefferson, 96, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Gardner officiating. Burial will be in the Union Hope Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Mr. Jefferson died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Slocum.
Mr. Jefferson was reared in Slocum. He united with St. James Baptist Church at an early age and later with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in 1942. He was retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad.
He is survived by sister, Bertha Taylor of Tyler; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Edwards, Carlett Jefferson, Clavin Taylor, Elton Lee Taylor, Fred Taylor and Chris Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Lily Dawn Stratton
Funeral arrangements for Lily Dawn Stratton, 45, of Palestine, are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Stratton died Sunday in Cherokee County from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Margaret Geneva Long
Services for Margaret Geneva Long, 82, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Palestine City Cemetery with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Miss Long died Monday at Dogwood Trails Advanced Health Care.
She was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Palestine to Julian Elbert and Lelia Jiney Wray Long.
Miss Long was a teacher and taught at Orange High School. She returned to Palestine and worked for Davenport’s Variety Store for 15 years before retiring. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Palestine.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Miss Long is survived by sister, Mary Cecelia Ballard of Palestine.
Condolence calls will be received tonight at the funeral home.
Vernon Peevy
Services for Vernon Peevy, 63, of Elkhart, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Revs. Zacharias Kunnakkattuthara and Michael Parker officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Peevy died Saturday afternoon at Spring Season in Elkhart.
He was born April 1, 1939 in Anderson County to Eliga Mitchell Peevy and Eula Bell Munsinger Peevy.
Mr. Peevy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Peevy is survived by his wife, Henrietta Davis Peevy; daughters, Mary Blackwell of Palestine, Jeanie Terrell of Baytown, Charlotte Floyd of Slocum and Cecelia Idlett of Palestine; son, William Davis of Elkhart; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the March of Dimes, or the American Diabetes Association.
Sissie Beck-Kelbowski
Services for Sissie Beck-Kelbowski, 55, of Tennessee Colony, were at 1 p.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church in Alto with the Rev. John Marcum officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home.
Mrs. Beck-Kelbowski died Sunday in Rusk.
She was born Dec. 13, 1947 in Rusk to Thomas Euclid and Daisy Brewer Beck.
Mrs. Beck-Kelbowski was a homemaker and lived most of her life in Rusk. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. Beck-Kelbowski is survived by her mother; daughters, Sandra Crawford of Palestine, Sherry Beard of Tennessee Colony and Susan Sowell of Nacogdoches; brothers, Thomas Beck and James Beck, both of Rusk, and Roy Beck of Key West, Fla.; sisters, Rosetta Moorhead of Jacksonville and Biddie Wallace of Alto; six grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
Lois G. Baker
Services for Lois G. Baker, 85, of Grapeland, were at 10 a.m. today in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Van Vleet and Fred Lintelman officiating. Burial followed in Parker Cemetery in Houston under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Baker died Saturday afternoon at Spring Season in Elkhart.
She was born June 18, 1917 in Rusk to Joseph Clay Gentry and Etta Brooks Gentry.
Mrs. Baker was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Baker in 1986; and a great-grandson, Cameron Baker, in 2002.
Mrs. Baker is survived by sons, Larry David of Homer, La. and David Baker of Pasadena; brother, James Ward of Richmond; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Arnold Wayne Nelms
Services for Arnold Wayne Nelms, 81, of Combine, and formerly of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. today at Roselawn Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Alcorn officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Roselawn Funeral Home in Seagoville.
Mr. Nelms died Sunday at his home. He was born in Palestine.
He served in the Army 96th infantry division during World War II. He was a custom homebuilder in Dallas and a custom cabinet maker.
Mr. Nelms was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Wayne Nelms Jr.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Virginia Pauline; three children, Dona Potter and Rita Morton, both of Combine, and Terry Nelms of Palestine; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Charles V. Pierson
Services for Charles V. Pierson, 70, of Grapeland will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Elkhart with the Rev. Floyd Petersen officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Pierson died Sunday at East Texas Medical Center in Crockett.
Juanita Cockerham Denison
Services for Juanita Cockerham Denison, 80, of Hillsboro, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God Church in Hillsboro with the Rev. Al Crane officiating. Burial will follow in Milford Cemetery under the direction of Edens Funeral Home of Hillsboro.
Mrs. Denison died Saturday at her home.
She was born June 30, 1921 in Winn Parish, La. to Gill and Olive Mae Holloway Cockerham.
Mrs. Denison grew up in Louisiana and Ellis County, Texas and attended school in Ellis County.
She worked in Waxahachie during the early part of World War II and on June 27, 194, she married Noal Denison in Milford. She then lived in Galveston, LaMarque and Palestine before moving back to Milford in 1980.
She was preceded in death by a daughter.
Mrs. Denison is survived by her husband; a son, Albert Denison of Palestine; daughters, Barbara Jennings of San Antonio and Sandra Zimmerman of Houston; a sister, Lovie Marie Pruitt of Waxahachie; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Barbara Gean Eisworth
Funeral arrangements for Barbara Gean Eisworth, 69, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Eisworth died Saturday morning at her home.
Artie B. Daniels
Services for Artie Brooks Daniels, 91, of Lovelady, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at William Chapel Church of the Living God, P.G.T. in Crockett with Eddie Reddic officiating. Burial will be in Call Wooten Cemetery in Crockett under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home, Crockett.
Mrs. Daniels died Saturday at Whitehall Nursing Home.
She was born April 2, 1911 in Houston County to Tom and Allie Bell Williams Brooks.
Mrs. Daniels was a member of William Chapel Church of the Living God. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.
She was married to the late Thomas Daniels, who preceded her in death in 1985. She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Kitchen, John L. Kitchen and Titus Kitchen; a daughter, Juanita Williams; and sisters, Laura Chandler, Joetta Fair and Mariah White.
Mrs. Daniels is survived by brothers, Timothy Kitchen of Houston and Roosevelt Kitchen of Alamogordo, N.M.; a sister, Dorothy Jean Stewart of El Paso; a granddaughter and one great-grandchild.
Lillian Audrey Johnson
Services for Lillian Audrey Johnson, 92, of Grapeland, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at White Cemetery. Burial will be under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mrs. Johnson died early Wednesday at Whitehall Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 7, 1909 in Leonard to T.W. Merrell and Eula Jenkins Merrell.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church in Grapeland. She worked as a nurse at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Johnson, in 1978; a son, Lester Simpson; a sister and a brother.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by a granddaughter, Carolyn Walters of Houston; and five grandsons, Butch Simpson of Kansas, Ron Simpson of Houston, Rickey Simpson of Baytown, George Simpson of Pasadena and Douglas Simpson of Livingston; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
