D.W. Smart
Services for D.W. Smart, 77, of Ben Wheeler, and formerly of Grapeland, were at 1 p.m. today at Sunset Christian Church in Grapeland with Dr. Jack Shoultz officiating. Burial followed in Davis Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Smart died Sunday at Cozby-Germany Hospital in Grand Saline.
He was born May 26, 1925 in Streetman to Jeff Shelby and Daisy Fox Smart.
Mr. Smart was employed by the Missouri Pacific Motor Freight and had worked in the oil field for 19 years. He was a 32-year resident of Ben Wheeler. He was a member of the Christian Church.
Mr. Smart served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and currently a member of the Pine Lodge 203 AF & AM in Ben Wheeler, where he served as past worshipful master and associate worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 840.
Mr. Smart was preceded in death by his sisters, Neva Ward and Mary Daniels; and a brother, Chester Ray Smart.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Melba Smart of Ben Wheeler, daughters, Shelia Betterton, Charlotte Essary, Sharon Stehsel and Brenda Conner, all of Ben Wheeler; a brother, Jeff Smart of Fairfield; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Greg Emerson
Services for Greg Emerson, 40, of Elkhart, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Revs. Steven Coleman and Richard Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Emerson died Saturday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 22, 1961 in San Bernadino, Calif. to Raymond Eugene and Mary Beth Treadaway Emerson.
Mr. Emerson was employed by Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Longview.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Emerson of Elkhart; daughters, Brittany Emerson of Palestine, Shelbie Emerson and Shawna Emerson, both of Elkhart; son, Shane Emerson of Elkhart; parents, Ray and Mary Emerson of Longview; sisters, Anita Carden of Bethany, Okla., Sanda Schroeder of Castle Rock, Colo., and Cara Schriefer of Longview; brother, Robert Emerson of Lufkin; and grandmother, Ruth Hilton of Oakdale, Calif.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Carr, Bill Chico, Dale Crews, Mike Durham, Dwight Franklin, Fred Lawson, Brian McKechnie, and Robert Steely.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Lily Dawn Stratton
Services for Lily Dawn Stratton, 45, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with Dan Manuel and the Rev. John Marcum officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stratton died Sunday in Cherokee County.
She was born Oct. 17, 1957 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Mrs. Stratton had lived in Palestine most of her life. She was a 1977 graduate of Palestine High School and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She had been owner and operator of Mane Attraction Hair Salon and currently was working for Hair Works and Anderson County Sheltered Workshop.
Mrs. Stratton had served on the board of the Palestine United Way and was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
She is survived by son, Stephen Batts of Grand Prairie; daughter, Misty Batts of Bryan-College Station; father and stepmother, Ray and Pat Fox of Palestine; mother, Pauline Stratton of Fort Worth; brothers, David Fox, Larry Fox and Alan Fox, all of Palestine, and Nolen Fox of Elkhart; sisters, Shirley Petrovich of Palestine and Teresa Carnell of Palestine.
Pallbearers will be Cody Carnell, Larry Fox Jr., Jacob Fox, Chris Fox, Josh Fox, and Buck Pitts.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Anderson County Sheltered Workshop.
Allene Moran
Services for Allene Moran, 80, of Elkhart will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Elkhart, with the Rev. Floyd Petersen officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Moran died Monday at Home Place in Tyler.
She was born July 30, 1922 in Houston County to John W. and Eunice Clark Ellisor.
Mrs. Moran was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkhart where she helped with the church library.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy G. Moran; five sisters; and four brothers.
Mrs. Moran is survived by her husband of 61 years, C.J. Moran Jr. of Elkhart; daughter, Glenda Starr of Elkhart; son, Mike Moran of Houston; sister, Carty Keen Sutton of Grapeland; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Truman Starr, Curtis Starr, Greg Chapin, Jay Moran, Blake Moran, Garth Moran and Horace Taft.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Elkhart, or to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.

Edna Leona Buster
Services for Edna Leona Buster, 91, of Rusk, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey & Foster with Dr. Barry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Fields Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Buster died Monday at Red River Health Care Center in Bogata.
She was born Jan. 23, 1911 in Henderson County to James C. and Annie Laura Baker.
Mrs. Buster was a homemaker.
She is survived by a sister, Lottie Mae Petty of Bogata.
James Jesse Moore
Services for James Jesse Moore, 42, of Metairie, La., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Capps Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow at Fairway Crematory in Van.
Mr. Moore died Thursday in Pensacola, Fla.
He was born on Houma, La. to Thomas and Mary Bienek Moore.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Glenda Dart Moore; daughters, Catherine Moore and Jessica Moore, both of Metairie, La.; sisters, Onezia Moore of Fairfield and Grace Moore of Miami, Fla.; brothers, Thomas Moore Jr., Donald Wayne Moore, and Joe Moore, all of Fairfield.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Edith Nannette Ansley
Services for Edith Nannette Ansley, 70, of Oakwood, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Buffalo Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Smith officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.
Mrs. Ansley died Sunday at the Buffalo Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 16, 1932 in Germany to Mr. and Mrs. Eduart Hirsekorn.
Mrs. Ansley moved to the United States in 1965 and married her husband on Dec. 10 of that year in Richwood. She was a resident of Freeport for 23 years. She was a retired dietician from Brazosport Hospital in Lake Jackson. After retirement she and her husband moved to Oakwood.
Mrs. Ansley was of the non-denominational Christian faith.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold Ansley of Oakwood; son, Pete Ansley of Oakwood; sister, Helga Beushel of Hibock, Germany; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.; and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to time of service.
Champ H. Lumpkin

Mr. Lumpkin died Monday at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab Center.
Jessie L. Deyon

Mrs. Staines died this morning at Palestine Health Care.
Roger A. Butler
Services for Roger A. Butler of Palestine were at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jay Abernathy and Donald Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mr. Butler died early Saturday morning at his Palestine residence.
He was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Beeville to Leon and Minnie Jones Butler.
Mr. Butler was reared in Ohio and moved to Palestine in 1985, coming from Abilene. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Palestine. He served as a pastor for more than 50 years in the Abilene area, Cleburne and in Tennessee Colony.
He was a past member of the Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club. He attended the University of Cincinatti and graduated from Baylor University and the Southwestern Seminary.
Mr. Butler is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Butler of Palestine; sons, David Butler of Alvarado and Don Butler of Palestine; and sisters, Willa Kraemer of Odessa and Dottie Monroe of Cincinatti.
Pallbearers were Tim Brazzel, Fred Walker, Tony Sharp, Olan Campbell, Jim Richie and Ronnie Ingram.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Joseph Class at First Baptist Church.

W.O. “Bill” Collins
Services for W.O. “Bill” Collins, 89, of Crockett, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church in Crockett with the Rev. John Goss officiating. Burial will follow in Guiceland Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Collins died Sunday afternoon at Grapeland Nursing Home.
He was born July 12, 1912, in Houston County to John Collins and Litha Belle Briley Collins.
Mr. Collins was an operator for Superior Oil Company for many years. He was deacon at Central Baptist Church in Crockett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marvie Lee “Dimple” Collins; sisters, Amblus Garrard, Ira Clewis and Fannie Lou Caskey; brothers, Harvey Collins, Roy Collins and J.C. Collins.
Mr. Collins is survived by special friend, Erma Bridges of Palestine; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Welburn Collins, Bruce Collins, Leroy Garrard, Terry Cobb, Don Newman and Todd George.

Barbara Jean Eisworth
Services for Barbara Jean Eisworth, 69, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Zacharias Kunnakkattuthara officiating.
Mrs. Eisworth was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Donald J. Eisworth of Palestine; daughters, Verna Jean Nall, Denise Gilliam and Jennifer Wallace, all of Palestine, and Nancy Lynn Smith of Houston; son, Benny Mitchell of Palestine; sister, Nita Joyce Bunnell of Houston; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
ElRoy “Roy” Knollenberg
Services with ElRoy H. Knollenberg, 86, of Palestine, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Tom Grissom officiating. Burial followed in Roselawn Park.
Mr. Knollenberg died Friday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 11, 1915 in Tulsa, Okla. to Milton H. and Lottie Jane Adams Knollenberg.
Mr. Knollenberg was employed by Sun Oil Co. for 37 years. He was a consultant for Flint Engineering for nine years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and president of a Men’s Bible Class, member of the administration board and past president of the Methodist Men. He held numerous other offices with the church and its various groups.
Mr. Knollenberg was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II who was a German Prisoner of War.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth Knollenberg and Raymond Knollenberg.
Mr. Knollenberg is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Emma Knollenberg of Palestine; son, Jon Knollenberg of Wayzata, Minn; daughter, Dana Knollenberg of Allen; sisters, Dorothy Reim of Purcell, Okla. and Donna Ross of Houston; brother, Bill Knollenberg of Spring; and one grandson.
Pallbearers were Donny Douglas, W.L. Green, John Hafner, Gene Skeen, Don Denson and Randy Randall.
Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Bice, Doug Parsons, J.B. Hicks, Jerry Palmer, Adolph Shaver, Wallace Southerland, Gene Davenport and John Copeland.
Rev. Henry Roe
Services for the Rev. Henry Roe, 82, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Southside Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Holcomb and Dr. Gerald Roe officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Rev. Roe died Thursday at Spring Seasons in Elkhart.
He was born July 11, 1919 in Cherokee County, Alabama to William Taylor and LaNora Belle Jiles Roe.
Rev. Roe was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a Southern Baptist Minister. He entered the gospel ministry in 1959. He was a pastor of three congregations. He later entered full-time vocational evangelism and founded the Henry Roe Evangelistic Association in 1969. He retired in 2000.
Rev. Roe was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Verna LaNora Roe; and four siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Roe of Palestine; daughters, Rhonda Hedderich of Gray, Tenn. and Nannette Scarborough of Nacogdoches; a foster daughter, Eugenia Tutor of Houston; sons, Gerald Roe of Southbridge, Mass. and John Roe of Palestine; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Brent Lemmons, Glen Dundas, Jerry Calhoun, David Terry, Rob Hord and Jess Stovall.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Executive Board and the Board of Directors of the Henry Roe Evangelical Association.
