GILMER - Services for Doyce Cannon, 80, of Gilmer will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Enoch cemetery. Mr. Cannon, a self-employed painter, died Monday at a Longview hospital. Area survivors include his wife, Laverne Gilbert Cannon, of Gilmer. He was born Aug. 2, 1917, in Starville. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alvin L. Clark
Funeral services for Alvin L. Clark, 67, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview with the Rev. Dick Stagner and the Rev. Gene Ferrell officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview cemetery. Mr. Clark died Tuesday morning, May 19, 1998, at a local hospital. He had been a Longview resident for 31 years, coming from Abilene, Texas. Mr. Clark was born May 23, 1930, in Tipton, Okla. He worked in maintenance at the American National Can Co., was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the New Beginnings Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. today and have asked that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Gregg North Unit, P.O. Box 906, Longview, TX 75606. Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Betty, of Longview; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Paulette Clark of White Oak; his daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian and Jeffry Collins of Kilgore, Pamela and Melvin McBride of Longview and Debra and Jayson Booth of Dallas, 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Charlsie Van Oostrum of Tipton, Okla.; a brother, Keith Gwynn Clark of Fort Worth; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Lena Clark, and his brothers, Grady and Kenneth Clark.

Pearl Kirk Dawkins
Graveside services for Pearl Kirk Dawkins, 92, of Kilgore will be held at 1 p.m. today at the West Mountain cemetery with Scott Finley officiating under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. Mrs. Dawkins died Monday, May 18, 1998, in Kilgore. Mrs. Dawkins was born Oct. 12, 1905, in Dry Prong, La., and had been a resident of Longview since 1953, coming from Gladewater. She was a licensed vocational nurse and a member of the Mobberly Avenue Church of Christ. Mrs. Dawkins was preceded in death by her first husband, Bartley Lee "Jack" Kirk, in 1940; a brother, James York in 1958; and a great-great-grandson, W. Harrison Warlick, Jan. 23, 1998. Mrs. Dawkins is survived by three sons, Eugene Kirk of Starrville, Morris Kirk of Crockett and Jesse Kirk of Longview; two daughters and a son-in-law, Reba Kirk Dovie of Slydell, La., and Bettie and Lewis Warlick of Kilgore; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great- grandchildren.

Sammie Pauline DeArmon
Funeral services for Sammie Pauline DeArmon, 80, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Joe McGraw and the Rev. Thomas Ayres officiating. Interment will follow in Judson cemetery. Mrs. DeArmon passed away Tuesday morning, May 19, 1998, at a local hospital. She had been a Longview resident most of her life and had lived previously in Post and Big Lake. She was born in Judson, Texas, on Sept. 23, 1917. A 1935 graduate of Longview High School, she was a homemaker and a licensed vocational nurse. Mrs. DeArmon was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, unselfishly putting others ahead of herself. She was also a member of the Ware Acres Baptist Church. Mrs. DeArmon was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel McQueen, and her parents, Samuel and Trudy Bruton. She is survived by her husband, Joe J. DeArmon of Longview, with whom she celebrated 57 years of marriage on May 10; her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Linda DeArmon of Longview, Billy and Susan DeArmon of Carrollton and Charles and Kay DeArmon of The Colony; a brother, Robert Bruton of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Ruby Hamilton of Irving; a number of nieces and nephews; and her grandchildren, Michael, Lisa, Lindsay and Scott DeArmon. The family asks that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the Ware Acres Baptist Church building fund.

Clark M. Dingler Jr., M.D.
Funeral services for Dr. Clark M. Dingler Jr., 74, of Longview will be held at 4 p.m. today, May 20, in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview with the Rev. Dewayne Beaty officiating. Cremation will follow. Born Oct. 29, 1923, in Chandler, Texas, he had lived in Longview since 1949. He graduated from Baylor University and then Baylor Medical School in Houston. He also served as a U.S. Navy medical officer during World War II. In 1949, he established his general medical practice in Longview. He was selected as 'Doctor of the Year' in 1993. During his 47 years of practice he delivered more than 3,000 babies and was a former chief of staff and chief of medicine at Good Shepherd Medical Center. Dr. Dingler was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Longview Masonic Lodge #404, a Shriner and a charter member of the Sharon Temple of Tyler. Dr. Dingler is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy, of Longview; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jack Barkley of Longview; his sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Amy Dingler of Longview and Jim and Mary Dingler of Convent Station, N.J.; his grandchildren, Katie and Andrew Barkley, Stephen and Allison Dingler and Colin Straughan; and his mother, Aleen Dingler of Longview.

William H. 'Bill' Hamilton
Graveside services for William H. "Bill" Hamilton, 76, of Longview will be held at 4 p.m. today, May 20, at Gum Springs cemetery with the Rev. Victor A. Werner officiating under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Hamilton died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, in a Longview hospital. Mr. Hamilton was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Gladewater. He moved to California in 1951, and he returned to Longview in 1989. Mr. Hamilton was a resident of Holiday Lodge 1992-1998. He served in the U.S. Navy 1939-1945 during World War II and received his diploma from the Masonic Home and School of Texas in Fort Worth. Mr. Hamilton is survived by his wife, Oma Lea Hamilton, of Longview.

Arthur H. Hayes
Services for Arthur H. Hayes of Longview will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at McCabe United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary E. High and Eugene Murphy officiating. His final resting place will be Jordan Valley Memorial Park, under the care of Bigham Mortuary of Longview, Texas. Mr. Hayes died on Friday in a local hospital. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Hayes, and daughter, Alice Hayes Buchanan, both of Longview. Family hour will be held 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Granville H. 'Pete' Jones
JEFFERSON - Graveside services for Granville H. "Pete" Jones, 66, of Laguna Beach, Calif., will be held Thursday, May 21, at 2 p.m. at Oakwood cemetery in Jefferson with the Rev. Eberhard VonWaldo officiating under the direction of Haggard-Heaster Funeral Home. Pete passed away May 17, 1998, in Newport Beach, Calif. He was preceded in death by his mother, Madge Jones, and his father, Elmer Jones. He is survived by his brother, Milton Jones; a sister-in-law, Margaret Jones; his nieces, Margie Murphree, Marianne Jones and Mickie Moore; and three great-nieces. Pete was a graduate of Baylor University. He held a master's degree from Columbia University and a doctoral degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He retired to Laguna Beach, Calif., after teaching at Carnegie-Mellon University for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Long died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born May 3, 1906, in Lampassas County, Texas. She had been a resident of Longview since 1991, coming from Dallas. She was a child care provider and a member of First Christian Church of Longview. She was preceded in death by her husband, Crit Long; a daughter, Jean Holman; a granddaughter, Gay Tilley; and a great-granddaughter, Lennisa Dossiter. Mrs. Long is survived by her grandson, Clark Harrison of Waco; four great-granddaughters; six great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha E. Schiesser
Martha E. Schiesser, 70, of Harleton died Monday morning at her residence. Born Sept. 5, 1927, in Nacogdoches, Texas, Mrs. Schiesser had been a resident of Harleton for the past 25 years. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Schiesser is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Niven of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her sons, Elmer L. Schmidt of St. Paul, Minn., and Larry Schmidt; and seven grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home in Longview 11 a.m.-noon Thursday. A private family memorial service will be held later.

Longview resident Margaret Schreihart died Friday, May 15, 1998. Born July 18, 1912, in Milwaukee, Wis., she spent her lifetime learning, teaching and caring for others. A former librarian and an avid reader, Margaret believed that she could travel to any place or time through reading. She is survived by her sister, her two children, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and everyone she touched throughout her special life. "Bud" Langford, James Clarence Langford, Rufus "Dick" Langford and E.T. Langford; and four sisters, Pearl Green Ola Lyle, Elizabeth Brown and Nettie Lou James. Survivors include two sisters, Naomi Carroll and Hazel Henry, both of Little Mound Community, and a host of nieces and nephews.
