Hall

Jessie Doyle Hall, age 81, passed away on Tuesday May 4, 2004 with his family by his side the last two weeks of his life. He was born on August 31st, 1922 in Saratoga, TX, to Allen and Clara Mae Farris Hall, and graduated from the Hull-Daisetta High School in 1941. During High School, he wrote for the school paper.

After High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He served on the U.S.S. Charles Ausburne from 1942 to 1946 and received a Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism in action. He was an electrician for 35 years and during his career he worked for the City of Liberty and Gulf States in Beaumont, TX. He retired in 1983.

He was a 46 year resident of Liberty Texas and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He loved to sing, write poetry, collecting model antique cars, working in the yard and telling family stories to his grandchildren.

In his 81years he touched countless lives. He lived his life to the fullest, enjoying every minute and enjoying the people around him. He was proud to have served his country and also was proud of his family and his life long friendships.

He will be missed and remembered by all that knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Daniel Hall, father, Allen Hall, mother, Clara Hall, and brother Earl Hall.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sybil Mae Hall, his sons, Harlan J. Hall, Kenneth W. Hall, and Ray N Hall, daughter, Denise Hall, daughters-in-laws, Rebecca Hall, Lori Hall, and Pam Hall, brothers, Dearl Hall and Allen Hall, Jr., sister-in-law, Audrey Hall, and ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 6, 2004, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX, a Wake will be held at 7:00 P.M., A rite of Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 411 Milam Street Liberty, TX Burial will follow in the Liberty Catholic cemetery where he will be laid to rest near his first born son.

Cope

Daniel J. ‘Dan’ Cope, 48, of Anahuac, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 2 Pm, Saturday, May 8, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in Anahuac.

Dan was born June 2, 1955 in Houston, to parents; Charles M. and Martha L. ‘Dede’ Quota Cope, was a native of Houston, and has resided in the Anahuac area for the past seven years. He was a painter by trade, graduate of the Bellaire High School, and attended the First Untied Methodist Church of Anahuac.

Mr. Cope was preceded in death by his grandparents: J. Henry and Grace Quota and father: Charles M. Cope. He is survived by his sons: Jeffrey W. ‘Jeff’ Cope of Anahuac and Brian M. Cope of Anahuac, daughter: Amy L. Cope of Anahuac, mother: Martha L. ‘Dede’ Quota Cope of Bellaire, brother: Mike Cope and wife Lori of Manvel, sister: Patsy Mackenzie and husband Will of Sherman Oaks, CA, one niece, two nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Thompson

Chad E. Thompson, 30, of Oak Island, died Sunday, My 2, 2004, in Oak Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10 Am, Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Anahuac cemetery in Anahuac. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

Chad was born December 20, 1973 in Beaumont to parents; Thomas W. ‘Tommy’ and Cheryl Stokes Thompson, a lifelong resident of the Anahuac area, a carpenter by trade, graduate of the Anahuac High School class of 1993, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, mechanics, and especially spending time with his daughter.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Willard and Naomi Thompson and maternal grandfather: William Stokes. He is survived by his daughter: Krista L. Thompson of Saratoga, parents: Tommy and Cheryl Thompson of Oak Island, brother: Wayde Thompson of Oak Island, niece: Kristie Thompson of Winnie, maternal grandmother: Maudry Stokes of Oak Island, and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.

Clotio

Gustave J. ‘Gus’ Clotio, 72, of Dayton, died Monday, April 26, 2004, at the Westwood Manor Nursing Home in DeRidder, LA.

Funeral services will be held at 2 Pm, Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Palms Memorial Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Friday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Gus was born December 29, 1931 in Gueydan, LA to parents; Numa Clotio and Adele Touchet, a former resident of Baytown and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 25 years. He was a retired welder for Exxon of Baytown, veteran of the US Army with service during the Korean War, member of the Liberty Church of Christ and the Cleveland VFW Post #1839, and enjoyed playing the accordion, fishing, hunting, and telling stories.

Mr. Clotio was preceded in death by his father: Numa Clotio, mother: Adele Broussard, wife: Beatrice Clotio, grandson: Kevin Clotio, and brother: Richard Broussard. He is survived by his daughter: Dayna Lewis and husband Oscar of Maryville, LA, son: Jerome ‘Keith’ Clotio of Kinder, LA, grandchildren: Jennifer Damerell, Whitney Lewis, and Krista Clotio, great-grandchildren: Kolby Roy and Lauren Clark, sisters: Priscilla Marceaux of Abbeville, LA and Audrey Duhon of Liberty, mother of his children: Betty Comeaux of Stockdale, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Faulkner

Vallie Datel Faulkner, 75, of Wharton, died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Green Acres in Baytown after an extended illness.

She was born December 03, 1928 in Lampasas, Texas to parents James Samuel and Ester Wall Chambliss. She was a longtime resident of Dayton before moving to Wharton 30 years ago. While living in Dayton, Vallie worked for Dayton ISD, was a member of the PTA, and the First United Methodist Church. She and her late husband Frank Datel supported their sons and the Dayton Broncos in all of their athletic endeavors by attending all games, no matter where or when. After moving to Wharton she was a member of the Senior Citizens of Wharton. She was very active in a bowling league in Wharton and loved traveling, having fun and tending her flower garden. Vallie loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside service for Mrs. Faulkner will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Eastgate cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Frank Datel and Kenneth Faulkner and sister, Prebble Melton.

She is survived by her sons: Jimmy Datel and wife Jodie of Dayton and Sam Datel of Atascocita; step-daughter: Rachel Faulkner; brother: James Kenneth Chambliss of Lake Mary, Florida; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rex and Mary Mayfield of Longview; Louis and Pris Datel of Lafayette, La; John and Dean Datel of San Antonio; John and Louise Adams of Dayton; Julia and Buster Ripkowski of Dayton; Tom and Grace Faulkner of Victoria and Stephen Faulkner of Marlin; Grandchildren: Brett Addington, Ladena Enloe, Scott Clark, Shanna Datel, Robert Kenneth, Vanna Beth and Stephen. Great-grandchildren: Cheyanna, Nacole, Kati, Matt, James, Aaron, Hunter, Travis, Scarlet, and Sam. Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday prior to service time at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Fregia

Bill Fregia, 87, of Liberty, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at his residence.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Liberty County, attended Central Baptist Church in Daisetta, and North Main Baptist Church in Liberty, was a retired guager from AMCO after 32 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2004 at the Central Baptist Church in Daisetta with Rev. Jimmy Van Dorn officiating. Burial will follow at the Velia Fregia cemetery in Liberty under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

He is survived by: Wife of 56 years: Mary Fregia of Liberty; Daughters: Diana Harrison and her husband Joe of Liberty, Linda Crouthers and her husband David, Sr. of Liberty and Tisha Tilton and her husband Mike of Dayton; Brother: D. D. Frazier of Kountze; 4 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the Central Baptist Church in Daisetta.

Johnston

Eva Jane Watson Johnston, 65, of Anahuac, Texas, died on Tuesday, April 27, 2004.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 29 from 5 - 9 Pm at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 30 at 10 Am at the First Baptist Church of Anahuac with Rev. Gary Hillyard officiating. Burial will follow at Anahuac cemetery. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

Born on May 22, 1938 to William and Hazel May Watson, she was a lifetime resident of Anahuac. She was an active member of the community and retired after 45 years of service from the City of Anahuac as city secretary. Eva was a member of First Baptist Church of Anahuac where she was active in Sunday school and helped with the Awanas youth program. She enjoyed working in the yard, spending time with family and cheering on her grandchildren in sports.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert ‘Buddy’ Johnston; brothers, Franklin Watson and Eugene Watson; sisters, Hazel Lowe and Elveen Hines. She is survived by her children, Dale and Machell Johnston of Anahuac, Jamie and Melissa Johnston, Dennis and Molly Johnston, and Jason and Claudia Johnston, all of Mont Belvieu; grandchildren, Jeremy and Matt Johnston of Anahuac, Addison and Taylor Johnston, and Ashley, Elizabeth, and Kirsten Johnston, all of Mont. Belvieu; brothers, Robert Watson of Odessa and George Watson of Anahuac; and numerous other relatives, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the church family for their support during Eva’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Forward by Faith ministry of the First Baptist Church at P.O. Box 456 in Anahuac, TX 77514.

Glover

Richard Glover, 64, of Kenefick, died Saturday, April 24, 2004 at the Katy Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Lamison, Alabama, lived in Dayton for the last 20 years, was a retired construction foreman and was currently a charter bus driver.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the Abundant Life Apostolic Church in Dayton with the Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating.

He is survived by his Wife: Joyce Scheller Martin of Kenefick; Parents: Emmitt and Irene Mosely of Alabama; Sons: Ray, Joel and wife Dawn and Jason all of Kenefick; Brother William C. Martin of Kenefick; Granddaughters: Erika and Allison Hogan; Niece: Michelle Folse; Nephew: Brian Martin and many other Nieces and Nephews.

Remkes

Johnny Remkes, 81, of Tarkington Prairie, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2004 at the St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston.

He was a native of Dayton, lifetime resident of Liberty County, a Businessman and Rancher. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dayton, American Quarter Horse Association where he owned the horse "Fraction" which was champion 2 years running, trained and showed quarter horses. He also was a past American Quarter Horse Judge and supported and trained youth to participate in youth quarter horse shows. Mr. Remkes was a past football coach and basketball referee, Director of the Saddlerock Corporation and rodeo chairman of the first weekly televised rodeo from Dayton, Texas, rodeo chairman, director and president of the Trinity Valley Exposition where he was instrumental in building a new covered arena at the Trinity Valley Exposition. He participated in rodeo and quarter horse events dating back to the 1940's. Mr. Remkes also served on the Liberty County Central Appraisal District review board and as director of the Liberty County Central Appraisal District.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Jay Barnes officiating.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bert Remkes of Tarkington Prairie; sister, Ida Marie Winzer of Winnie; brother-in-law, Ken Poland of Tarkington Prairie; niece, Cherie Chappell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and numerous more nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. There will be a private family graveside.

Findley

Jimmie Ray Findley, age 69, died Friday, April 23, 2004 in Liberty, TX.

Mr. Findley was born in Crockett, TX, to J. M. and Rubye Lenora Smith Findley on May 13, 1934. He graduated from the St. John’s High School in Shreveport, LA, in 1952, and was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, as Drill Instructor at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX. Mr. Findley attended Baylor University and Lamar University, and retired from the Baker Oil Tools as a Quality Control Specialist. He was a member of the Baptist church, the Elks Lodge, and the Liberty Youth Baseball Association. He Enjoyed sports, baseball, and fishing.

Mr. Findley, was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Koby Garrett Smith.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Renee Findley of El Cajon, CA., a daughter and son-in-law, Robin F. and Mark A. Smith of Spring, TX, a grandson, Daniel W. Findley of New Orleans, LA, a Cousin, Janie Lunceford, of Liberty, Aunt, Maggie Findley of Liberty.

Scattering of his ashes will be in the Pacific Ocean. Cremation arrangements handled by Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis, Liberty, Texas 77575.

Lewis

Kenny Lewis, 42, of Dayton, died Sunday, April 25, 2004 in Dayton.

He was a native of Houston, lived in Dayton for the last 25 years, was an operator at TEPPCO in Mt. Belvieu for the last 4 years and a member of The St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton with Father Joseph Malayampuram officiating. Burial will follow at the Ryan cemetery in Tarkington Prairie under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 26, 2004 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton.

He is survived by: Wife: Sue Lewis of Dayton; Parents: Kenneth and Claudine Lewis of Dayton; Sons: Kris Lewis, Nathan Lewis and Ryan Lewis all of Dayton; Sisters: Natalie Ripkowski and her husband David of Dayton and Jennifer Croft and her husband Robert of Hunt; Mother-in-law: Irma Nichols of Dayton; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law: Tyra and Bo Ballard of Atascocita, Audra and Jim Manfred of Humble, Michael Rodriguez of Houston and Tyson Nichols of Dayton and Nieces and Nephews: Amber King, Lindsey Croft, Tiffany McKinney, Sarah McKinney and Matthew Tieman.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 26, 2004 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. For those who desire donations may be made to the Kenneth Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund: Care of Prosperity Bank, P. O. Box 1987/106 N. Main, Dayton, Texas 77535.

Zieschang

Ernie Zieschang, age 70, died Saturday April 24 in Liberty, TX.

He was born on August 7, 1933 to Ewald and Pearl Forbes Zieschang in Taylor, TX. He graduated from the Freeport High School in 1950 and the University of Houston in 1954. He married Darlene Rose Dunn on December 4, 1953 in Freeport, TX, and served in the U.S. Army for two years. Ernie was employed by the Brazosport Facts in 1956 as a business manager until moving to Liberty as Publisher and Editor of The Vindicator in July of 1967. He retired in June of 2000.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Liberty and was the President of the Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of the Liberty Lions Club, he was a Past President of the Liberty Chamber of Commerce and The Citizen of the Year. He served as a Highway ’Road Hand’, and worked with the Child Protective Services.

Ernie is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Wallace Ray Zieschang.

Survivors are his wife, Darlene Zieschang of Liberty, TX, sons and daughters-in-law, Kirk and Kay Zieschang of Liberty, Ted and Cheryl Zieschang of Lufkin, TX, daughters and son-in-law, Beth and Randy Johnson of Huffman, TX, Kathy Rhodes, of Liberty, Sister-in-law, Barbara Zieschang. Eleven grandchildren; Zane Johnson, Aaron Zieschang, Whitney Morris, Mitchell Morris, Mark Zieschang, Kaitlen Zieschang, Kacie Johnson, Kelsey Rhodes, Brady Zieschang, Jamie Zieschang, and Ryan Rhodes.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at 4:00 p. m., in The First United Methodist Church, 539 North Main Street, Liberty, TX. 77575. a visitation will be held on Monday, April 26, 2004, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX,

Memorial may be made to the Building Fund of The First United Methodist Church of Liberty, TX.

Curl

James Brice Curl, 59, of Baytown, was surrounded by his family when he departed this life early on the morning of Friday, April 23, 2004 at a Liberty hospital. Jim was born in San Antonio on the second day of December, 1944 to Thomas and Audrey Allsup Curl. After his father's death, Jim's mother would marry restaurant owner Smitty Hill, Sr. He would develop his love of cooking while working at his Hill's Restaurant on the Seawall as a teenager. After graduating from Ball High School, he attended Stephen F. Austin University where he met Glenda Flournoy. They married on January 26, 1965 and lived for a short time in Lufkin and San Antonio before moving to Liberty and started their family. Jim worked at the Ag. Co-op, and later for his late father-in-law, Keith Flournoy. He joined the Liberty Police Department and later the Liberty County Sheriff Department.

In 1974, they moved to Mont Belvieu, where he joined the Chambers County Sheriff Department. He later went to work for Mobay Chemical Company (now Bayer) as an operator and would become security supervisor, and eventually contract safety supervisor. While working at Mobay, Jim served as Chambers County Constable for 4 1/2 terms. With Bayer, he was involved in the Fire Brigade, Safety Department, West Chambers County War on Drugs and countless youth related fund raising and educational programs.

Jim was District Chairman of the Houston Metro "Go Texan" Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and recently became active in the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Anyone that knew Jim knows that other than his family his greatest passion was cooking, especially his famous gumbo. He will be remembered and missed by the hundreds of cooking teams he headed up. In the early 80's he started Curls Catering and owned several restaurants with Glenda. Jim did all of this all while never missing the chance to escort and attend every Barbers Hill Eagles football game.

Jim will be loved and missed by many, and will always be remembered for his tremendous love for his family and his incredible work ethic. Preceded in death by his father Thomas W. Curl, he is survived by his children, Brice Curl of Malvern, AR; Jennifer P. McKelroy and her husband, Brooks of Liberty; his mother and step-father, Audrey and Smitty Hill, Sr. of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Emily, Ellie, Annie and Brooks McKelroy, IV, and Trevor Curl; brothers, Tommy Curl and wife, Nancy of La Marque, Smitty Hill, Jr. and wife, Margo of Nacogdoches, and Billy Hausman and wife, Barbara of Pearland; and his loving friend companion Mary Hudspeth of Baytown.

Celebration of Jim's life will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2004, at L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors, Rev. Danny R. Biddy officiating. Interment will follow at Palm cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors, 6123 Garth Road, 281-839-0700.
