Edwin L. Beene, 75, of Dayton, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2004 at Kingwood hospital.
A longtime resident of Dayton, Mr. Beene was born in Baytown Texas to Carl and Irene Beene and was married
on October 7, 1954 to his loving wife, Corine Mae Ellis. He was a retired warehouseman for Quantum Chemical Company and was a veteran of The United States Marine Corps serving during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his Parents: Carl and Irene Beene; Brother: Carl Beene, Jr., and One Niece.
He is survived by his loving Wife of 49 years: Corine Beene of Dayton, Son: Wesley Beene and and his wife Terrie of Liberty; Daughters: Teresa Shimek and her husband Joe of Dayton and Becky DuBois and husband James “Bubba” of Dayton; Grandchildren: Bridgette Bean, Bradley Beene, Brandi Bean, Stacey Shimek, Brian Beene and Andy Beene; Great- Grandchildren: Kali Robbins and Kami Counts; Lifelong Friends: Claudette Vicars and her husband, the late J. P. Vicars; 3 Nephews, and 1 Niece and a host of other friends and relatives.
Visitation will be held from 3pm-6pm on Sunday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Monday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton with interment to follow at Palms Memorial Park.
Burk
Lawrence ‘Pop’ Burk, 89 of Devers, Texas died Tuesday July 27, 2004 at the Liberty-Dayton Hospital in Liberty.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, 2004 at 10:00 A. M. at Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX, with burial to follow at the Fairlawn cemetery in Liberty. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, July 29, 2004 from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. at the Allison Funeral Service.
Lawrence was born October 25, 1914 in Sterns, KY, to Matthew Burk and Emma Davenport Burk. He lived in Devers, TX. for the last 51 years. He worked for the Hunt Oil Corp. of Dallas for 47 years before his retirement. During his long career with the company he lived in several cities in East Texas and in this area.
Lawrence was a loving husband and devoted father. He played baseball at a younger age. He loved sports, camping and working in his yard. He was a proud member of the Republican Party and took every opportunity to exercise his rights as a member. He was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Opal Kelly, brothers, Howard and Adrian Burk, and grandchildren, Cheryl Neumann and Milton R Conner.
Survivors are his loving wife of 67 years, Wynema Godwin Burk, of the home in Devers, TX, sons and daughters-in-law, David L. Burk and wife Jo Neta of Liberty, TX, Charles Everett Burk and wife Roberta of Silsbee, TX, a sister and brother-in-law, Iwana Long and husband John from Lindale, TX, eight grandchildren: Danny Burk and wife Marsha of Liberty, TX, Donnie L. Burk and wife Tracey of Wallisville, TX, Robert Heim and wife Linda of Spurger, TX. Randell Heim and wife Lisa of Liberty, TX, Tena King and husband John of Silsbee, TX, Charles W. Burk and wife Dan Anne of Silsbee, TX, Brenda Sherman and husband Robbie of Evergreen, TX, and Deborah Scott and husband Mark of Evergreen, TX, six great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends.
Breaux
Peggy Joyce Breaux, 60 of Anahuac, passed away at her home on Sunday.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac with a recitation of the Rosary at 7pm. A funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Thursday at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Anahuac. Rev. Kevin Badeaux will officiate. Interment will follow at Anahuac cemetery under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.
Peggy was born on January 28, 1944 on Crowley, LA, to parents Adam Smith and Louise Hoffpauir. She was a high school graduate and attended 2 years of college. She married
Hubert Breaux Sr. on January 27, 1962 in Crowley. She had been a longtime resident of Anahuac where she worked as a personnel manager for Montgomery Ward. She had worked at the store at San Jacinto Mall from it’s opening until it closed. She was a member of Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Anahuac. In her spare time, Peggy loved to sew and could sew anything. She also enjoyed flowers and helping anyone she could. Her passion was her family and she loved to spend time with them.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry W. Smith and sisters Renda Myers and Patricia Smith. She is survived by her loving husband Hubert Breaux Sr. of Anahuac, son Hubert Breaux Jr. and wife Alice of Anahuac, daughters Patty Stephens and husband Brad of Mt. Belvieu and Penny Knichel and husband Josh of Pasadena, sister-in-law Robin Smith Alicie of Winne and Grandchildren Brandon, Matthew, Ashley, Dylan, Logan, Christopher, Jonathan, Britni, C.J. and Philip. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joe Ed Brown, 65, of Dayton, passed away on Saturday morning at a Galveston hospital.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Sunday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton.
Joe was born on September 13, 1938 in West Point, Texas to parents John Ed Brown and Della Stroups. James worked his whole life operating a truck tire repair business. Spending most of his life in Lubbock, he has lived in the Dayton area for the last 13 years. He was a member of the Greater Faith Pentecostal Church in Dayton. When he wasn’t working he loved to fish. Joe was devoted to his family and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Mark, Leo, Vernon, Raymond and Homer Brown and his sisters Julia and Bertha Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Patricia Brown of Dayton, daughters Michelle Brown Breshers and husband Roy of Lubbock, Susan Darlene Brown Castleberry and husband Doug of Edna, son David Brown and wife Miriam of Deer Park, sisters Mable Howard of Muleshoe and Ethel Widner of Duncan, OK and grandchildren Bud Breshers, Kassie Breshers, Mackenzie Gibson, Rachel Castleberry and Dustin Castleberry. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Logsdon
Rhoda Dorris Logsdon, 84, of Dayton, died July 23, 2004 in Liberty after an extended illness.
She was born September 17, 1919 in Ramos, Louisiana to parents, Owen Shield Walter and Rhoda Greenwood. She liked to draw, watch baseball and listen to Elvis Presley. She also enjoyed her Christian television shows.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 26, 2004 at Pace Stancil Chapel with Rev. Charles Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East in Houston.
Mrs. Logsdon was preceded in death by two daughters: Joyce Carla, Molly Olney; sister: Jenny Hanson and her parents. She is survived by daughters: Dorris Welfl and the late Buddy Welfl, Jackie Brown and husband K.B., Karyn Melton and husband Bobby, Vivian Richardson and husband Rodger; Sisters: Louise Conerly and Betty McIntyre; Brother: Owen Jerry Walter. 14 Grandchildren, 36 Great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Pallbearers are Franklin Welfl, Jr., Eddie Webb, Michael Richardson, Christopher Welfl, Brian Broz, and Matt Broz. Honorary Pallbearers are Cody Broz, Robert Fitzpatrick, Farley Granger, Michael Jo Dickerson and Thomas Broz.

Harriett Tanton, Sr., 67, of Liberty, died July 22, 2004 at home after an extended illness.
He was born February 27, 1937 in Jasper Co. to parents, Archie Tanton and Gladys Jackson Tanton. He lived most of his life in Liberty Co. where he was a fisherman. Service for Mr. Tanton will be 3:00 p.m., Monday July 26, 2004 at South Liberty Pentecostal Church in Liberty with Rev. Alfred Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
He is survived by sons: O‚Neal Tanton, Jr. and wife Verna of Liberty, and Benny H. Mott and wife Alicia of Liberty; Daughter: Sarah Louise Fregia and husband Billy Roy of Liberty; Brother: Doyle Tanton and wife Martha of Liberty; Longtime companion: Betty Coker; Six Grandchildren: Derik Johnson, Sr. and Amanda, Tina and Crystal Johnson, Marvin Ray Jackson, Jr., LaShawn Tanton and Ashton David Mott all of Liberty; Three Great-Grandchildren: Derik Lynn Johnson, Jr., Kylia and Klarrissa Ledsinger. James W. “Bootle” Sparkman, 61, of Stowell, passed away at a Galveston hospital on Thursday.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. The Rev. Bob Morgan will officiate. Interment will be follow at Anahuac cemetery in Anahuac.
Bootle, also know to other friends and family as Bootie was born on January 26, 1943 to parents Bruce Sparkman and Hazel Lena Blair in Cumberland, Kentucky. He was a veteran of the US Army who served in Viet Nam and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He had lived in Stowell for the last 30 years where he worked as a Truck Driver. He was currently a driver for A& B Builders where he had been employee for the last 15 years. Driving was in his heart and soul. When he was not working he loved driving his Harley, his dune buggy and his many other hot rods and race cars. Bootle was fun loving guy who enjoyed fishing and gardening in his spare time.
James was preceded in death by his parents. He was survived by his daughters Diana Land and husband Charles of Beaumont and Jadah Sparkman of Stowell, sisters Shirley Etheridge of San Antonio, Emilee Nelson of Anahuac, Onnie Harding of MD, Annie Dow of OR, and Zelda Tracy of FL and brothers, Doug Sparkman of MD, “Panky” Sparkman of MD, “Gatie” Sparkman of MD and “Monk” Sparkman of Anahuac.
Eaton
David Kenneth Eaton, 64, of Saratoga, died July 21, 2004 in Humble at Houston Northwest Medical Center after an extended illness.
A native and 30 year resident of Dayton he was born July 3, 1939 to parents, Richard Henry Eaton, Sr. and Susie Robinson. He was retired from the trucking business.
Service for Mr. Eaton will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Big Thicket United Penecostal Church in Saratoga with Rev. Joe Alston officiating. Interment will follow at Cooke cemetery in Liberty.
Mr. Eaton is survived by his daughter Becky Lane and husband Maverick of Lumberton; brother: Samuel Eaton of Liberty; sisters: Jenny Elzeda Penley of Liberty and Emma Yates of Liberty; Grandchildren: Christopher Rogers, Brooke Hunt, Courtney Lane, and Blake Hunt.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m., Saturday at the United Pentecostal Church in Saratoga. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton.

Vera Johnson Cloud, 87, of Dayton, died suddenly at her home July 20, 2004.
A life long resident of Dayton, she was born October 18, 1916 to parents, Thomas Frederick Johnson and Lula Maude Graves. A graduate of Dayton High School, she worked for many years as the City of Dayton Secretary. She attended South Liberty United Methodist Church.
Graveside service for Mrs. Cloud will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Magnolia Park cemetery with Rev. Bob Fosburgh officiating. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
She is survived by her daughter: Linda Cloud Daniel and husband, Jesse, Sr. “Pete” of Batson. Two Grandchildren: Jesse Amos Daniel of Batson and Jennifer Daniel Roundtree of Batson; Three Great-grandchildren: Sarah Dawn Vincent, William Vincent and Josiah Roundtree. Brother: T.O. Pearl E. ‘Grannie-Pud’ Alcorn Kindle, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Liberty-Dayton Hospital in Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 4 Pm, Friday, July 23, 2004, at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Magnolia Park cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Thursday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.
Pearl was born May 19, 1921 in Odessa, MO, to parents; John Ray and Hallie L. Fulton Alcorn, and has been a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area for the past 30 years. She was a former switchboard operator, sales associate for Wieners Department Store, and worked most of her life as a homemaker. She was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and enjoyed cooking, reading, and working crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Kindle was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Albert L. Kindle, sister: Mary Ellen Easter, and brother: John ‘Leroy’ Alcorn. She is survived by her sons: Tommy Kindle and wife Dawn of Dayton and Mike Kindle and wife Judy of Carmichael, CA, sister: Nonie Acker of Onalaska, grandchildren: Chad Kindle, Natalie Kindle and David Salter, great-grandchildren: Brittany Kindle, Madison Salter, and one great-grandson on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Willie Mae Harbour Barrow, 74, of Anahuac, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Allen Brook Care Center in Baytown.
Graveside services will be held at 10 Am, Friday, July 23, 2004, at the Barrow cemetery in Hankamer with Rev. Gary Hillyard officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 Pm to 9 Pm, Thursday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.
Willie Mae was born April 5, 1930 in Hankamer to parents; Pierce G. and Lucille Moor Harbour, and has resided in the Hankamer/Anahuac area throughout her life. She was a graduate of the Anahuac High School class of 1949, a homemaker, member of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac and the Order of Eastern Star. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and family, and driving.
Mrs. Barrow was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 30 years: Elro Barrow. She is survived by her son: Larry Barrow of Anahuac, daughter: Josie Walker and husband Minor of Austin, grandson: Kyle Walker of Austin, brother: Bert Harbour of Hankamer, sister: Imogene Herford and husband Benny of Sour Lake, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
