Evelyn McAdams
Services for Evelyn McAdams, 84, of Laneville, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney with Dan Manuel officiating. Thompson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mrs. McAdams died Thursday in a Jacksonville hospital.
She was born July 20, 1918 in Choudrant, La.
Mrs. McAdams was a medical assistant for Dr. Paul Boren for 20 years. She was a member of Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Floyd McAdams; a son, Michael Glenn McAdams; and brothers, Jack Hogan and Huey Hogan.
Mrs. McAdams is survived by a daughter, Patsy Gage of Jacksonville; a sister, Pauline Hammonds of Choudrant, La.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Fred Guy “Hawkshaw, Boo” McKenzie
Services for Fred Guy “Hawkshaw, Boo” McKenzie, 88, of Palestine, were at 2 p.m. today at Tennessee Colony Church with the Rev. Lyle Huntress officiating. Burial followed in Tennessee Colony Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. McKenzie died Tuesday night at Greenbrier Nursing Home.
He was born March 23, 1914, in Tennessee Colony, to Martin Eugene and Lydia Gore McKenzie.
Mr. McKenzie was a packer and worked for Glass Containers. He was a member of Glass Bottle Blowers Union No. 86. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Tucker McKenzie, in 1983; sisters, Bernice Graham and Sybil Campodonico; and brothers, Harry McKenzie, Ralph McKenzie and Ray McKenzie.
Pallbearers were Jack Williams Jr., Jerry Cleveland, Jeff Cleveland, Rance Graham, Mike McKenzie and Don McKenzie.
Honorary pallbearers were John Tyer and Jimmy Frazier.

Maurine McKnight Brooks
Services for Maurine McKnight Brooks, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy McClelland, Gary Gardner and Willis Charles Darden officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brooks died Saturday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 18, 1926, in Palestine to Henry T. and Arilla Darden McKnight.
Mrs. Brooks attended Green Bay School and was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Willie Lee McKnight; and husband, Alfonzo Brooks.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by brother, George McKnight of Texas City; and a niece whom she raised as a daughter, Barbara J. McKnight of Palestine.
Nephews will serve as active pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Donald H. Grier Sr.
Services for Donald H. Grier Sr., 63, of Slocum will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Zacharias Kunnakkattthara officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston.
Mr. Grier died Tuesday at his residence.
He was born May 14, 1939 in Palmer to Leon and Lois Mahone Grier.
Mr. Grier was a Baptist. He was a general manager for Delaval-Deltez and retired in 1999 and moved to Slocum. He was the vice president of the United Steel Workers Association Local 1055. He was an Airman 2nd Class and served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Grier was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Grier of Slocum; daughter, Lori A. Salazar of Rosenburg; sons, Don Grier Jr. of Austin, Gary Grier of Houston and David Grier of Slocum; sister, Peggy Bonner; brothers, Ted Grier of Fort Worth and David Grier of Houston; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Grier, John David Grier, Craig Sanderson, Marvin Alfaro and David Salazar.

Donald “Chico” Johnson
Services for Donald “Chico” Johnson, 44, of Fairfield, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairfield Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Darryl Alford officiating. Interment will be at Fairfield Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
Mr. Johnson died Sunday in Fairfield.
He was born Oct. 7, 1958, in San Antonio to Wash Johnson and Elnora Hemphill.
Mr. Johnson was employed by Fairfield ISD in the maintenance department.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wesley and Pinkie Hatcher.
Mr. Johnson is survived by sisters, Pinkie Omar of San Antonio and Leola Warner of Fayetteville, N.C.; brothers, Franklin Johnson, Charles Johnson and Vernon Johnson of San Antonio; and grandmother, Leola Hemphill of San Antonio.
Thelma Ree Polk
Services for Thelma Ree Polk, 72, of Fort Worth, and formerly of Palestine, will be at noon Saturday at Mount Vernon AME Church with the Rev. John Holmes Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Polk died Nov. 2 in Fort Worth.
She lived in Palestine until 1994 when she moved to Fort Worth.
Mrs. Polk was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Polk; brother, Joe Deckard Jr.; sister, Daisy Pearl Mack; son, Emmett Polk Jr.; daughters, Barbara Polk, Theresa Polk, Maresa Arthur and Mary E. Polk; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by brother, Stanford Deckard of San Antonio; sister, Zelma Holmes of Houston; son, Robert Polk of Grand Prairie; daughters, Deborah Polk Kimbrough, Jacqueline Polk, Carolyn Polk and Brenda Polk, all of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Clifton R. Ray
Services for Clifton R. Ray, 88, of Bois D’ Arc will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Bois D’Arc Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Jones officiating. A private burial will be held later at Pine Top Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Ray died Wednesday at East Texas Medical Center in Athens.
He was born Feb. 6, 1914 in West Point, Texas to William Rudolph and Emily Holstein Ray.
Mr. Ray was a rancher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Reedy Ray, in 1998.
Mr. Ray is survived by daughters, Pamela Banner of Hurst and Sandra Hackney of Shawnee, Okla.; son, Rudy Ray of Bois D’ Arc; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brian Banner, Brett Banner, Mark Hackney, Joshua Ray, Steve Wallace, John Bolt, and Eric Evans.

Mrs. Davis is survived by daughters, Jeanette Maynard of Houston and Gypsie Rainwater of Palestine; sons, Lloyd Davis and Glenn Davis, both of Palestine; sisters, Earline Selman of Palestine and Frances Powell of Lakehill; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe D. Redding, in 1968; and a brother, A.C. Scott Jr.
Mrs. Redding is survived by daughter, Janis Redding Harris of Palestine; son, Larry Scott Redding of Spring; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott Mac Redding, Jason Redding Harris, Clint Harris, Cody Joe Harris, Ty Wellborn and Larry Harris.
