Edmonds
Velma Turner Edmonds, 89, a native of Anahuac, Texas, died Monday, December 1, 2014 in Baytown, Texas and was born October 5, 1925.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Naoma Turner, husband Dalton Edmonds, sons Floyd and Glenn Edmonds, grandson Kyle Edmonds, daughter-in-law Terry Edmonds, brothers Ed, Roy, Jasper Turner and twin brother Vernon “Pee Wee” Turner, and sister Alice Jones.
She is survived by her granddaughter: Kristin Edmonds Cothren and husband Dana; great grandchildren Kase and Lexi Cothren; brother George Turner; sister Tres Halfin.
Velma will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who was full of life. She enjoyed hosting parties in the pool house, square dancing, slot machines and scratch off lottery tickets. She poured her heart and soul into taking care of her family. Heaven received a special angel who will be dearly missed and forever loved.
A visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., Anahuac, Texas.
Funeral services will be at 10:00AMon Wednesday, December 3, 2014 in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac, 405 Magnolia Ave. S, Anahuac, Texas, with Pastor Gary Hillyard officiating. Interment will follow in Anahuac cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Edmonds FFA Scholarship at Anahuac High School.

Blizzard
Ella Kate Blizzard infant daughter of Bradley Blizzard and Kristin Chesson of Batson, died on Friday November 28, 2014 in Beaumont.
A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday December 3, 2014 at First Assembly of God church of Saratoga, with Reverend Jeff Blizzard officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson. The family will be receiving friends also on Wednesday December 3, 2014 beginning at 11:00A.M. until service time at the church. Survivors other than parents are grandparents; Bobby and Sheila Chesson of Batson, Richard Blizzard of Spring, TX, Lori Blizzard of Corona, California. Great -grandparents; are Raymond and Dorothy Hobbs of Batson, Wanda and Tommy Chesson of Batson, Bud and Jane Blizzard of Wildwood, and Joan Ellis of Corona, California. Burch
May Belle Burch, 94, of Rose Hill and formerly of Anahuac, died Monday, November 17, 2014 in Rose Hill, Kansas.
She was born December 29, 1919 to Cecil May Smith and Robert Marion Penick in House, New Mexico. She and her family, including brothers Thurman (Bubbie), L.A. (Buster), and Curtis, and sister Guindolyn (Gwen), moved to Anahuac while the children were still young. May Belle remained in Anahuac for most of the rest of her life and has been preceded in death by all her siblings except for Gwen.
May Belle married
Samuel Elton Lee June 8, 1942. They had three children, Carolyn, Kenneth, and Nancy. She was preceded in death by Elton, Carolyn, and Kenneth. She married
Herbert Burch in 1986, and he passed away before her as well. After his death, May Belle moved to Kansas to be near her daughters.
For over 35 years, May Belle worked in the Anahuac school district offices as a secretary, something she enjoyed very much. She loved music and played piano, then organ at the Methodist church for years and developed many life- long friendships in the church.
May Belle had a quick sense of humor and always enjoyed a good laugh. More than anything else, she loved time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, and she will be missed by her family and numerous faithful friends.
A visitation with the family will be on Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., in Anahuac where funeral services will begin at 11:00 am with Rev. Kelly Krone officiating.
Interment will follow in Anahuac cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clint Fancher, Todd Swonke, Nikolas Lee, Edward Sullivan, Daniel Gibson, Wayne Gibson and Leslie Penick.

Newton
Richard Dale Newton, age 79 of Dayton, died November 29, 2014 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
Richard was born July 28, 1935 in Chanute, Kansas, son of the late Ilo and Vivian Johnson Newton. Richard was pipefitter for almost thirty-five years and was a member of the Local #211 for over fifty years. He enjoyed working in his wood shop where he was blessed in making gifts for all of his family. Richard always had TicTacs and gum for his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Nelda Ruth Newton, daughter; Lisa Miller and brothers; Ilo Newton Jr and Harold Newton. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter; Cyndy Duff of Dayton, sons; Mike Newton and wife Sheri of Old River, Bruce Newton and wife Stacey of Dayton, Brian Newton of Old River, brother; Johnny Newton of Pueblo, CO, thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Services for Richard Dale Newton will be Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 2pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at Palms Memorial cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service from 12pm to 2pm.
Marcontell
Zera Lucile Smith Marcontell, 87, of Thicket, died Saturday, November 29, 2014.
She was born on February 2, 1927, in Honey Island, to Josephine Roth Smith and Elsie Otto Smith and raised by guardians, W.D. Smith and Lucy Patterson Smith.
Mrs. Marcontell was a devoted Christian lady. She was very giving to all who knew her and she loved her family. She was a retired beautician and spent her time doing what she loved most; fishing and cooking.
Survivors include her children, Edmon Dwight Marcontell and his wife, Betty, of Rusk; Sharon Marcontell of Thicket; James Marcontell and his wife, Debbie, of Tyler; and David Marcontell and his wife, Tammy, of Baytown; grandchildren, Shannan Reid and her husband, Russell, of Montgomery; Daina Dalton and her husband, Chad, of Plano; Eron Marcontell of Tyler; Morgan Caraway of Baytown; and Michael D. Marcontell and his wife, Shelby, of Mont Belvieu; great-grandchildren, Caleb Reid, Ethan Reid, Zach Dalton, Hadley Marcontell, and Stevie Marcontell; sister, Kelly Joyce Ross and her husband, Neal, of Shreveport; and brother, JW Smith of Tyler. She is preceded in death by her parents; guardians, and husband, Alfred Edmon Marcontell; .
The family would like to thank Charlotte Sims, Amanda Parker, Ruby O’Neal, Sandra Dodson, Joe Edge, and Charlotte Babb for the loving care they gave to Mrs. Marcontell.
A gathering of Mrs. Marcontell’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Hall cemetery, Thicket.
Whitsell
David Whitsell, Sr., 72 of Old River, Texas passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at St. James House of Baytown, Texas.
He was born in Clarksville, Texas on October 31, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilford and Nina Whitsell and two sons David Whitsell Jr. and Dale Wayne Whitsell.
David was a retired Barber and was of the Pentecostal faith. He loved fishing and listening to old country music and he also enjoyed telling old stories. The family would like to say a special thanks to Steve Stephens and William Clark for everything they did in taking care of their father.
David is survived by his daughters: Darla Funderburk and husband Richard and Tammy Holloway and husband Carl; son: Danny Ray Whitsell; sister: Kay Walker and husband Terry; brother: Charles Whitsell; grandchildren Jason Sanders, Richard Funderburk Jr., Danny Holloway, Natalie Holloway, Johnathon Whitsell, Dale Whitsell Jr.; great grandson A.J. Sanders; cousins Carolyn and Nancy and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and interment will be on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at Magnolia Park cemetery, in Dayton, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers for David will be Richard Funderburk Sr., Jason Sanders, Carl Holloway, Danny Whitsell, Steve Stephens, and William Clark.

Linda Marie Wylie, age 68 of Liberty, died November 27, 2014 in Baytown, TX.
Linda was born September 4, 1946 in Liberty, TX, daughter of the late Swin and Mable Marie Finley Crocker. She attended Hardin High School and was a housewife most of her life. Linda was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. She loved going to the Coushatta and having poker nights with the girls. She was an avid Houston Texan and Houston Astros fan. But she mostly loved her family.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Les Wylie, sister; Patsy Gale Young and her husband Edward Dennis Young, and brother; Bobby Glen Crocker. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter; Melissa Fregia and husband James of Liberty, Step-son; Eric Lazelle Steele and wife Valorie of Richland, TX, grandchildren; Krystal Mobley and husband Derrick, Kristen Taylor Steele, James Michael Fregia and wife Shana, Adam Lee Jones and wife Lauretta, great-grandchildren; Karlie, Tylor, Brayden, Bryland, Khrislyn, Macalla, Nathan, Carol Jo, Zack, Thomas, niece; Liz Crocker, nephew; Robbie Crocker and great-nephews; Antonio and Kirkland.

Gatlin
Joan Clifton Gatlin, age 83 of Liberty, die November 26, 2014 in Houston, TX.
Joan was born June 15, 1931 in Beaumont, TX, daughter of the late Fred and Linda Clifton Tate. She moved to the Liberty area at the age of four. She attended Liberty High School and then married
her husband, R.C. “Buddy” Gatlin. Joan worked on the farm almost thirty years where she drove tractors and trucks. She loved yard work and mowed her lawn up to a few months ago. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and sister; Elaine Luce. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of sixty-four years; R.C. “Buddy” Gatlin of Liberty, son; Chris Gatlin and wife Karen of Crystal Beach, TX, daughters; Barbara Willard and husband Joe of Dallas, TX, Linda Wright of Onalaska, TX, sister-in-law; Dorothy Thomas of Conroe, TX, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ramirez
Evelyn LaVerne Ramirez, died Monday, November 24, 2014 in Liberty, Texas.
On February 2, 1963 another beautiful baby girl was born to John and Doris Smith in Liberty, Texas. She was reared and lived in Liberty, Texas. She attended public school where she graduated from Liberty High School.
She confessed Christ at an early age, she was baptized at Trinity Valley Baptist church under the leadership of the late Pastor U. L. Sandles, and she later moved her membership and joined the Saint Paul Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of the late Pastor E. B. Bland, she remained for many years under the present leadership of Pastor Michael Booze, where she remained faithful until death.
She served in various positions in the church, she served as a Board of Trustee, was Sunday school teacher, she was vice-president of mission, worked with the youth department and song in the choir. She gives new meaning to serving the lord will pay off after while.
Evelyn was blessed with two daughters; Terra Renee’ Ramirez and Tyra Renee’ Ramirez.
She worked at the Liberty Wal-Mart for twenty-four years. She worked in customer services where she known affectionately as Mrs. Evelyn, ” the one with the smile”.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jerry and Marguerite Henderson and James and Lillie Bell Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters; Terra Renee’ Ramirez, and Tyra Renee’ Ramirez, parents; John Henry and Doris Smith; one sister; Cheryl Booze (Pastor Michael Booze) one brother; John Raymond Smith (Beverly Smith) three grandchildren Eli, Ali and Alek and her significant other Samuel Banks.
Also cherishing her memory, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and co-workers.
Visitation will be Friday, November 28, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Wells Funeral Service Chapel.
Celebration of life will be Saturday, November 29, 2014. She will lie in state from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Services will begin at 11:00 am at Turkey Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Booze officiating.
Interment will be in Wells Memorial cemetery in Liberty, Texas.

Dougharty
Frank Julian Dougharty, age 85, of Bryan, TX, where he had resided ten years, died November 21, 2014 at Kindred Hospital in Houston, TX.
He was born October 13, 1929 to Frank K. and Veva Alice “Sweety” Dougharty in the old St. Joseph Children Hospital, Houston, Texas.
He graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, TX in 1948 and then went on to his beloved A&M College of Texas (Now Texas A&M University) graduating with a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1952.
He served in the United States Army Ordnance Corps as a Lieutenant from 1953 to 1955. He was in Korea from December 1953 to February 1955. His work included jobs in Texas, Europe and Saudi Arabia usually as a pipeline expert or project manager. He first went to Aramco in 1971 as an Engineer III in the Engineering Department and finished as a General Manager in the Projects Organization. He had previously sat in as a Chief Engineer for a year. He retired from the Arabian American Oil Company (now Saudi Aramco) in October 1985.
His loving wife, Jennette (Morris) and he had been married
sixty-one years. They began their married
life in Liberty, Texas. They lived in many other places during their lifetime, including Pasadena and Bryan, TX, The Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia and Arkansas and travelled around the world twice.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, and sister; Joyce Abshier. The deceased survivors include his loving wife, son; Dennis Dougharty and wife Pauline, daughter; Penny Lynn Maher and husband George, grandsons; Julian N. Dougharty and Cameron A. Maher, granddaughter; Rynida Ely, great-grandsons; Nicholas, James and Dillan Dougharty and family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Frank’s memory to the Association of Former Students at Texas A&M University, 505 George Bush Drive, College Station, TX 77840.
