Vines

Peggy Jean Moon Vines was a little red head from Pelly. For those that don’t know, Pelly was one of three original communities that later became known as Baytown.

Peggy Jean’s life was a little rough in the beginning, her mom “Mother Helen” died before she was a year old. Her father “Daddy Jake” was a very young man that needed help with a small child so she was raised by her grandmother, Hettie Mae Roeling, mother to her and Bo to us kids. You could say she was raised by the whole town, you see Pelly was a small community where everyone knew you. Peggy Jean was much loved and had a good life. There were her great uncles, uncle that was more a brother, friends and neighbors that were always there to look after her while Bo was working at the local washateria.

Peggy Jean attended Robert E. Lee High School and was never the same after her best friend, Patsy, hooked her up on a double date with two handsome boys from Arkansas. Patsy later married our Daddy’s first cousin, Lynn Cox and Peggy Jean at the young age of sixteen married Glendol Ray Vines, he was eighteen. They settled in Hull, Texas where her beloved uncle, Odell Roeling had started a business and spent many years helping him manage Roeling Construction Company and Roeling Equipment Company.

Peggy Jean Moon, now Vines, was a feisty little red head that was always there for her family. She was an excellent care giver to her mother, father, uncle, great uncles and her husband that passed away on 7-16-04 just months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Very seldom did we ever see her mad but if you messed with her babies (children or grandchildren) you had a tiger by the tail! It was mentioned earlier that she was never the same after meeting our dad and she was never the same after he passed away. She missed him greatly and felt a part of her was gone. Having to kiss her only son goodbye on 4-16-08 just months before his 50th birthday was the true test of her faith and strength.

Peggy was raised in the Pentecost Church and we will never forget the church pinch Bo would give us if we were not quite and still!. Then she would make it all better by giving us ½ stick of Juicy Fruit gum. Peggy later converted to Baptist religion and raised her children in the First Baptist Church of Hull.

We started family vacations in July 1990 and for 25 years we would spend a week together in the summer. Most often it was a beach vacation, she also enjoyed the Frio River. As long as we were all together it was good with her. We have another family tradition that meant the world to her – our Sunday dinners. Every Sunday at 4:00 we all head to Maw Maw’s house and bring food and discuss the week’s events. We always left plenty of food to last her a few days and her down time would be when it was time for us to leave. We have awesome memories from these family times and many pictures to bring us smiles and help ease our sadness. The sexy little red head and the tall dark handsome working man were drawn together by some unseen force across many miles and produced a family that is very close. They brought us together and never have to worry about us staying together. They laid a strong family foundation that will stand the test of time and last for generations.

A preacher once said that sometimes family members ask him when their loved one passed – Do you think they went to heaven? Well that is one question we do not have to ask. She will be called home to Heaven. She loved her God and her country and lived her life to honor and respect both. This year should be her lucky year. She would role the lucky 7’s on 10/22/15 and turn 77 years old. I guess she is the lucky one, it is only us – her babies – her family and friends that feel the pain. She has no more pain.

Join us in celebrating the life of Peggy Jean Moon Vines, she was called home on April 21, 2015 at 11:00 by our Lord and Savior.

She died at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas after a brief battle with cancer. Peggy was preceded in death by her mother; Helen Roeling Moon, grandmother; Hettie Mae McCagheen Roeling, father; Jake Moon, husband; Glendol Ray Vines and son; Bobby Ray Vines. She is survived by daughters; Debbie Taylor & husband Marvin, Rhonda Devillier & husband Steve, grandchildren; Marvin Ray Taylor & wife Christina, Bobby Ray Vines Jr & fiance Morgan and daughter Mila, Amber Taylor, Angela George & fiancé Jacob Fregia, great-grandchildren; Shawn Taylor, Cori Taylor, Addie Condra & Tate Moorman. Services are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service and a Christian burial to take place Friday, April 24, 2015 at 2pm in the chapel with interment at Cooke cemetery, Liberty.
