Emmitt-Schnoebelen

Bertha Odessa Emmitt-Schnoebelen, age 96, died at home in Liberty, Texas on November 10, 2015.

Bertha was born to Fred and Lulu McClellan-Emmitt at Homestead, Oklahoma on January 10, 1919. She went to grade school at Liberty ISD and graduated from Longdale High School in 1937. The following summer she attended a Beauty School in Enid, Oklahoma, and then worked in a salon in Canton, Oklahoma, until she was offered a job in Mooreland, Oklahoma. Soon she was the owner of her own beauty shop and also worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company. In March of 1941, she met and fell in love with Bernard Schnoebelen who was home on military leave. They were married in San Francisco, California on October 31, 1941 at Holy Cross Church just six weeks before World War II was declared.

During Bernard’s naval tours of duty in American Samoa and Guam as well as both coasts in the United States, Bertha and their daughter, Mary Lu moved to be with him. Bertha’s twenty-two year career as a navy bride ended in 1959 when Bernard retied in Kingsville, Texas and has claimed Texas as her home ever since. Throughout her seventy-two years of marriage she worked for the Civil Service, in school systems and was a volunteer for many civic and church organizations throughout her lifetime. Ben and Bertha worked as a team their own “habitat for humanity” industry. In 2013, Bertha’s book, A Joyful Life: A Navy Bride’s Story, was published and, soon after, The Adventures of Pinchy the Clothespin, a children’s book illustrated by Mary Schwertner.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard “Ben” Schnoebelen, her parents, her eleven siblings and spouses. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lu and her husband, Richard C. Lawrence, III; their children, Cari Lawrence, Michael Vann, Richard C. Lawrence, IV and wife Alison; great-grandchildren: Hunter Vann, Lucas Hughes, Caitlin and Nolan Lawrence, Austin and Paige Browning; Ben’s siblings: Johnny, Al, Miriam and Judith Schnoebelen and a countless number of loving nieces and nephew.

Wake Services on November 12, 2015, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Immaculate Conception Church, 411 Milam St, Liberty, Texas. Funeral Mass of Christian Buria, l November 13, 2015, 10:00 AM, . Father Sebastian Myladiyil, S.V.D., officiating. Interment : Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery, Raywood, Texas.

Reneau

Bobbie J. Maddox Reneau, 79, of Dayton, died Sunday, November 8, 2015, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Liberty. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2015, at the Zwolle cemetery in Zwolle, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Bobbie was born February 19, 1936 in Zwolle, Louisiana, to parents; Jesse W. and Eva P. Sanderson Maddox, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in Dayton for the past 24 years. She was a graduate of the Zwolle High School class of 1952, a retired secretary, and member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. She also enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and entertaining.

Mrs. Reneau was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother: Serena Sanderson, and brother: Howard Maddox. She is survived by her husband of 40 years: Edwin W. “Wayne” Reneau of Dayton, daughter: Traci Jo Overmyer of Katy, brothers: Johnny Maddox of Lake Chares, Louisiana, and Larry Maddox of Tacoma, Washington, grandson: Jason Bradley Overmyer of Cypress, extended family members: Lindsey, Tommy, and Mikayla Lyon, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Modisette

Letha "Lovell" Lunsford Modisette, 71, of Kenefick, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the Old Shiloh cemetery in Mt. Enterprise. Visitation will be held from 5 p. m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Lovell was born November 18, 1943 in Nacogdoches, to parents; Otra L. Lunsford and Letha J. Fryman Lunsford. She was a former resident of Sheldon, and has resided in Kenefick for the past 24 years. She was a customer service representative for Ivy Steel and Wire before retiring, and a member and former Sunday school teacher for the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, sewing, reading, and other crafts.

Mrs. Modisette was preceded in death by her father: Otra L. Lunsford, mother: Letha Fryman Leonetti, daughter: Letha Yvonne Modisette, and brothers: Tommy and David Lunsford. She is survived by her husband of 56 years: Jerry R. Modisette of Kenefick, daughters: Jerrie Elaine Modisette Wilkins and husband Dennis of Humble, and Sheri Lynne Modisette of Huntsville, son: Brian Keith Modisette and wife Martha, sister: Judith A. Reichelderfer and husband Terry of Spring. Extended family members: Donna and Jas Jimenez, grandchildren: Lisa, Dennis, Jr., Tara, Skylar, and Colton, great-grandchildren: Chris, Emily, Blayne, Jordee, Taylen, Stevie, and Baxton, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

For those who desire, donations may be made to the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church at 3536 FM 1008, Dayton, Texas, 77535, in Letha’s name.

Taylor

Rebekah Marcell ”Granny” Taylor, 75, of Hardin, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Thursday November 5, 2015 in Baytown, Harris County, Texas.

Service for Mrs. Taylor will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday November 22, 2015 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home Chapel at 1304 N. Cleveland St., Dayton, Texas. The Reverend Tim Gruver will officiate. Soloist will be Brother Gary Downey. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin, Texas. Visitation for Marcell will be Saturday November 21, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil in Dayton.

Rebekah Marcell Childress was born November 6, 1939 in Houston, Harris County, Texas to her parents; Marvin Oakley Childress and Ruth Loraine Royall Childress. After graduating High School, Marcell married her husband, Clifton Wayne Taylor. Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Marcell was a member of Heights Baptist church in Liberty.

Marcell was preceded in death by her parents: Marvin and Ruth Childress; husband; Clifton Taylor and daughter: Tracy Kaye Taylor.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her daughters: Wendy Pete & husband, Bob of Texarkana, Texas and Kelly Robertson of London, England; Grandson: Micah Pete; Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law: Tom and Jean Taylor of Flatonia, Texas, and numerous other relatives and loving friends.

Trahan

Philip Terrace Trahan of Liberty, Texas died Thursday November 5th after a lengthy illness.

Philip was born in Liberty, Texas on August 22, 1946 to Darrael and Clementine Goudeau Trahan. Philip attended West Liberty High School and graduated in 1967. He also attended Lee College where he earned an Associate Degree. He worked over thirty years for Targa Resources, Mt. Belvieu.

Philip loved his family and was a very caring and compassionate man. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Oscar Trahan. Philip leaves to mourn his wife, Jeone Trahan; sons, Simon, Harris and Justin (Nancy Trahan); daughter, Kimberly (Tony Abbas); brothers, Jerry (Linda Trahan) and Joseph (Donetta Trahan); sisters, Regina, (Ron Brooks), and Mary (Charles Johnson); three grandchildren, Micala, Ian, and Ethan, and sister-in-law Brenda Trahan.

Celebration of life will be Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Wells Funeral Services in the Althea P. Gibson Memorial Chapel, 1 – 4pm, 300 Alabama Street. Interment will be in Palms Memorial Park, Dayton, Texas on Monday November 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM.

Rozell

Doris Sue Rozell age 83 of Liberty died Thursday October 5, 2015 at Magnolia Place Nursing Home.

Doris was born in Leveland, Texas April 9, 1932 the daughter of the late A.R. “Pete” Lindsey and Jessie May Brown Lindsey. Doris worked for numerous years as a church secretary for both the First United Church of Liberty and the North Main Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her plants. An extremely spiritual person she last attended the River of Reconciliation Church of Liberty.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband David Rozell and a sister Hazel Brazil.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her four children; David Paul Rozell and his wife Liz, Jimmy Dan Rozell and his wife Ann, Davena Kocian and her husband Raymond, Lindsey Donn Rozell and his wife Laurie. She also leaves two brothers; A.R. Lindsey and his wife Mary and Pete Lindsey and his wife Betty. In addition she leaves her eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be held privately. A memorial service for Doris will be held Saturday November 21, 2015 at 2 P.M. at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas.

Russell

Margie J. Sledge Russell, of Liberty, Texas, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015, after a lengthy illness. She was 92 years young and loved her family, friends and life.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2015, at the Central Baptist Church in Liberty, with services concluding thereafter. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, at the church. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

Margie was born July 18, 1923 in Teague, to parents; Homer and Mettie L. Stevens Sledge. She was a graduate of the Teague High School, a retired legal secretary, and member of the Central Baptist Church in Liberty, Texas. She and her husband, Bill Russell, had lived many years in Midland, Texas then moved to Liberty, Texas in 2007. She will be remembered as a devoted Christian lady that read her bible every day of the week.

Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 67years: William “Bill” Russell, son: William “Billy Ted” Russell, Jr., and all of her siblings. She is survived by her niece: Martha Hunt of Quinlan, great-niece: Trish Winfrey Breaux of Flower Mound, one great-nephew: Randy Winfrey of Katy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews by marriage along with other relatives and friends.

In passing, we would like to say that we will always remember our 'Aunt Margie' and will miss her dearly, especially her quick wit and sense of humor.

Givens

Billy Fred Givens, age 82 of Liberty, died at his residence on November 3, 2015.

Billy was born in Memphis, TN on December 22, 1932, son of the late Orland Wesley Givens and Lois Sharp Givens. After graduating from high school, Billy served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954.

Billy then received his bachelor degree in Geology from Northeast Louisiana State University. He worked for forty-three as a mud engineer for Magabar, Dresser and MI and traveled the world for fifteen of those forty-three years working in numerous countries before retiring. After retiring he continued to be a self-employed consultant. He was known to his children and grandchildren as Gaga and loved them dearly. He always had an infectious smile and loved sitting on his swing telling stories. Billy loved gardening, reading, and working crossword puzzles. He was a Mr. Fix It and always took time out of his life to help others. While helping others, he recited bible verses in the helping process. Billy was present at any of his children’s or grandchildren’s activities giving support to them. It was said that Billy came from humble beginnings and became the cornerstone of his family. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Robert Givens and Thomas Givens and one sister; Virginia McCarley. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of fifty-eight years; Joyce Givens of Liberty, sons; Matt Givens and wife Mary of Conroe, Mark Givens and significant other Cindy Wetzel of Devers, daughter; Joan Davis and husband Danny of Fannett, sister; Frances Ashley of Tennessee, grandchildren; Zack Givens, Sydney Givens, Elyse Bell, Chance Givens, Meredith Bell and Tyler Givens.

Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX.

Trahan

Kelvin Wayne Trahan 56, a resident of Liberty, died peacefully, on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at a Houston hospital.

Visitation: Friday November 6, 2015, 1:00pm - 5:00pm, Wells Funeral Services Chapel, 300 Alabama St. Liberty, Texas.

Funeral Services Saturday November 7, 2015, 11:00 A.M., at Wells Funeral Services Chapel.

Interment will be in Wells Memorial cemetery, Liberty, Texas.

Linck

Melvin James “Big Mel” Linck, 66, of Dayton was born in Ft. Worth on March 19, 1949 and died November 1, 2015.

He was a resident of Dayton since 1989 and had resided in Baytown from 1968-1989.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard "Cotton" Linck; mother, Mildred "Mickey" Linck and a brother, David Linck.

He is survived by his wife Murl; sons, Richard and wife Susan and Rex and wife Clarissa; Daughter, Myra and husband LeRoy Entendencia and brother, Glen Linck. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. He has 9 beloved grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Melvin was retired from the International Union Operating Engineer Local #450, after having served over 40 years, was a retired Deacon of South Dayton Baptist Church and was employed at Community Toyota, KIA, Honda of Baytown as one of their drivers. He also was a member of Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge #321 AF&AM.

Melvin impacted every life he touched with his gentle smile, amazing work ethics, straight forwardness, keen since of humor and lighthearted spirit. He will be so deeply missed.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2015 at the funeral home.
