Gladys Finley

Services for Gladys Marie Finley, 82, of Palestine will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Eastland Cemetery in Eastland under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home in Palestine.
Mrs. Finley died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 4, 1920, in Boise City, Okla. to Walter and Bertha Mae Hanvey Huskey.
Mrs. Finley was reared in Colorado and had lived in Palestine in 1989. She was a housewife and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Eastland.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Owen Dean Finley, in October 2002; daughters, Sandra and Karen; and 13 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Finley is survived by sons, Jim Finley and Larry Finley, both of Palestine, and Terry Finley of Spring; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.

James Harold Baugh

Services for James Harold Baugh, 86, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Scott Dornbush and Beverly Tune officiating. Burial will 2 p.m. at McGregor Cemetery in McGregor under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Mr. Baugh died Monday in DeSoto.
He was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Temple to W.H. Baugh and Margaret Seybold Baugh.
Mr. Baugh received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from  Texas A&M University. He was a registered professional engineer and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He served in the Air Corps during World War II as a B-29 Command pilot. He was employed by Boeing, Dupont and ALCOA. He retired from ALCOA in 1980.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as delegate to the  Texas Annual Conference, Charge Lay Reader, member and teacher of the Victor Sunday School Class. He also was a member of the Palestine Organ Club, Computer Club, Meals on Wheels, and American Association of Retired Persons tax counseling program for the elderly.
Mr. Baugh was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Virginia Ruth Culpepper Baugh; and brother, Dempsey Seybold Baugh.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James Bryon Baugh and wife Debby of DeSoto, Harold Joseph Baugh and wife Kathy of Dunnellon, Fla. and John Culpepper Baugh and wife Caroloyn of Albemarle, N.C.; grandchildren, James Baugh Jr., Beau Baugh, Lee Baugh, Brioney Baugh, John Baugh, David Baugh and Mary Baugh; and great-grandchildren, Sarah Baugh, Lilly Baugh and James Baugh III.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Condolence calls will be receive from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Home in Waco, 1111 Herring Ave., Waco,  Texas, 76708.

Virginia Ann Brown

Services for Virginia Ann Brown of Grapeland will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Parker Cemetery with the Rev. William Butch Grant officiating.
Mrs. Brown died Monday in Harrison, Ark.

Dorothy Fowler

Services for Dorothy Jean Conaway Fowler, 51, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. D.R. Barrett and Travis Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Lawrence Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fowler died June 30 in a Dallas hospital.

She was born March 7, 1950, in Palestine to Robert and Robbie Bailey Conaway.

Mrs. Fowler attended Clemons High School in Neches and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Upon moving to Dallas, she united with Paradise Kingdom Inspirational Church of God in Christ. She was an usher and chairperson of the gift committee. She was married to Johnny Lee  Johnson and later to Tommie Fowler. She was employed as a certified nurses’ aide.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Mrs. Fowler is survived by her mother, of Palestine; daughters, Brenda Conaway, Dorris Conaway, Gwendolyn Conaway and Ruby Johnson, all of Dallas; sisters, Luvada Conaway and Eve Conaway, both of Dallas, Mary Redic and Barbara Hamilton, both of Palestine; brothers, Elzie Conaway and Norman Conaway, both of Dallas, and Robert Conaway Jr. of Palestine; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Cedrick Conaway, Dewight Conaway, Marvin Conaway, Billy Hamilton, Antoine  Johnson and Vernon Johnson.

Mrs. Fowler’s brothers will be honorary pallbearers.

A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Harvey Rabe

Services for Harvey Wayne Rabe, 46, were at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo with Tommy Middlebrook officiating.

Mr. Rabe died Monday at East  Texas Medical Center of Tyler.

He was born Sept. 17, 1954, in Teague.

Mr. Rabe was employed by Wal-Mart Distribution Center No. 6005 in the Loss Prevention Department. He was a lifelong resident of the Buffalo area and was a member of Buffalo Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Sue Rabe of Buffalo; mother, Elsie Eileen Dickey Rabe of Buffalo; brother, Shirley Rabe of Mississippi; sisters, Linda Owen of Buffalo and Marilyn Roycroft of Tyler.

Bobbie Turpen

Services for Bobbie Lee Turpen, 72, were at 11 a.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Claude Williams officiating. Burial followed at Concord Cemetery.

Mrs. Turpen died Monday at Navarro Hospital in Corsicana.

She was born Jan. 10, 1929, in Paducha.

Mrs. Turpen lived in Houston before moving to the Buffalo area 20 years ago.

She is survived by her husband, Hardy Williams of Plantersville; mother, Thelma Smith of Dennison; daughters, Thelma Gressett of Buffalo, Rita McBroom of Pasadena and Marsha Lundholm of Waller; brother, Billy Smith of Dallas; sisters, Dessie Moore of Dennison and Tressie Robinson of Victoria; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Edward Bynum

Services for Edward Bynum, 81, of Palestine, and formerly of Alto, will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Chapel in Alto with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Burial will be at Alto City Cemetery.

Mr. Bynum died Monday in Colorado.

He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Lufkin to William E. and Mertie Beachamp Bynum.

Mr. Bynum lived most of his life in Alto and lived in Palestine for five years where he was a member of First Baptist Church. He worked for the Alto Phone Company for 40 years and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a past member of the Alto Lions Club and was active in Alto Little League Baseball.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Wendy Bynum; brother, Marshall Bynum; and sister, Mamie Lee Carter.

Mr. Bynum is survived by his wife, Wanda Bynum of Palestine; daughters, Virginia Beth Harralson of Atlanta, Ga., and Paula Killam of Denver,  Colo.; sons, Charles H. Bynum and Marc E. Bynum, both of Denver,  Colo.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Marshall Ray Bynum, Mark Killam, Robby Rivera, Jaymes Pace, Dudley Harralson Sr. and Dudley Harralson Jr.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Triston Springer

Services for infant Triston Drake Springer will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. David Gregg officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Triston died Monday in a Dallas hospital.

He was born July 2 in Palestine to Quinton Lee and Kristine Michelle Vines Spring Sr.

The infant is survived by his parents; brother, Quinton Lee Springer Jr. of Palestine; grandparents, Becky and Michael Martin of Palestine, Kenneth Springer of Pampa, Mary Vines of Palestine and Ricky Vines of Chandler; great-grandparents, Joe and Inez Holloway of Palestine, Juanita Bernal of Balch Springs, Annete and James Allen of Chandler, Wilton and Ellen Vines of Buckner, Ark., and Clare Tidwell of Mount Pleasant.

Sadie M. Welch

Funeral arrangements for Sadie M. Welch, 83, of Buffalo are pending at Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Mrs. Welch died Wednesday at Buffalo Nursing Home.

Lovie Marie Brown

Services for Lovie Marie Brown, 83, of Oakwood, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Oakwood with the Revs. J.C. Johnson, B.J. Lewis and Nathan Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery in Waco under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown died Monday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born May 14, 1918, in Oakwood to Ceaser and Adeline McCoy.
Mrs. Brown joined St. Paul AME Church during childhood. In 1938, she married Gilbert Phillips. After relocating to Waco, she married Willie L. Brown and joined Pleasant Olive Baptist Church.
She was employed for many years as a cook. She returned to Oakwood in 1992 to be with family.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by both husbands; sisters, Carrie Carter and Eresta Lambert; brothers, Wash Carter and Lasalle Carter; and an infant sun.
She is survived by son, Caldwell Phillips of Oakwood; sister, Edna Glover of Oakwood; brother, John Hicks of Oakwood; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and five step-grandchildren.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Jack Bennett Ellison
Services for Jack Bennett Ellison, 60, of Buffalo, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Buffalo with the Rev. Dale Osteen officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery in Normangee in Leon County under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Mr. Ellison died Saturday at his residence in Buffalo.

He was born March 27, 1942, in Madisonville to Odis Payne Ellison and Mary Olive Bennett.

Mr. Ellison was a practicing attorney for 29 years. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Pat McGee Ellison of Buffalo; sons, Jack Ellison II of Boston, Mass. and Jason Ellison of Buffalo; and brother, Odis P. Ellison of Teague.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Hartley, Dr. Herman Poteet, Bill Recknor, Dr. M.L. Bennett, John Mallard and Wayne Best.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Hedrick and Dr. Howard Axtell.

Visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation; or to a charity of donor’s choice.

Eugene C. Davenport
Services for Eugene C. Davenport, 79, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Grissom officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Davenport died Friday at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Palestine to Ervin Thomas Davenport and Beulah Lee Fannin Davenport.

Mr. Davenport was a rate clerk for Southern Pacific Railroad. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mae Haynes Davenport; and a daughter, Nancy Davenport.

Mr. Davenport is survived by daughter, Janet Marie Thompson of Jacksonville; sister, Mrs. J.L. (Gladys) Hassell of Houston; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Ramsey, Donnie Ramsey, Jerry Oden, Bobby Rea, Josh Pyeatt and Tony Green.
Condolence calls will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Laverne Mosley
Services for Laverne Mosley, 70, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Park with Dan Manuel officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Mosley died Monday at Cartmell Home for Aged.

She was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Anderson County to Leroy and Eula Valentine Bridges.

Mrs. Mosley was a homemaker. She was a member of the Crockett Road Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, James W. Mosley of Palestine.
