Charles Raymond Starr Sr.
Services for Charles Raymond Starr Sr., 73, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel. Burial will follow in Starr Cemetery in Elkhart.
Mr. Starr died Monday at Greebrier Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born Sept. 16, 1928 in Peason, La. to Issac Jonathan and Althia Ila Starr.
Mr. Starr lived in Palestine most of his life. He was a Baptist. He was a pipeline welder and former owner of Starr Grocery.
Mr. Starr was a member of the Pipefitters Union No. 798. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by children, Jackie Starr of Covington, La., Kathy Freeman of Beaumont, Miss., Charles Starr Jr. of Palestine and LouAnn Joyce of Longview; sister, Billy Faye Starr of Palestine; halfsister, Retha Hunnicutt of Elkhart; halfbrother, Will Barnes of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Starr, Melvin Pulliam, Chuck Wierema, and Kevin York.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Richard A. “Dickey” Wallis
Services for Richard A. “Dickey” Wallis, 56, of Rusk, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Tommy Mabry and Don Copeland officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.
Mr. Wallis died Sunday at Hospice Home Place in Tyler.
He was born Feb. 6, 1946 in Jacksonville, and lived a majority of his life in Rusk.
Mr. Wallis was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church. He was a manager of Blake Furniture in Palestine for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Deron B. Wallis.
Mr. Wallis is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandra Wallis of Rusk; son, Richard “Ricky” Wallis of Rusk; brothers, Kenneth Wallis of Arlington and Gilbert “Dub” Wallis of Kennedale; sister, Mary Alyce Parsons of Rusk; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Doug Jones, Jim Wendeborn, Jerry Lusk, Dan Williams, Wayne Cummins, and Tony Spurlock.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alvis D. Rainwater
Services for Alvis D. Rainwater, 81, of Malakoff will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Malakoff with George Yarger and Tony Murray officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Springs Cemetery in Athens under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
Mr. Rainwater died Monday in Athens.
He is survived locally by granddaughter, Mary Rainwater of Palestine.
Sue Kelly Williams
Services for Sue Kelly Williams, 65, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Grissom officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Williams died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 9, 1937, to Claude Virgil and Clairesse Caskey Kelly.
Mrs. Williams was a dispatcher for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and the Brotherhood of Railway Clubs.
She was preceded in death by her father; and her husband, Leb Elmer “Red” Williams in 1992.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her mother; daughters, Kim Martin of Palestine and Pamela Dean Brewer of Austin; son, Kelly Dean of Arlington; brother, J.V. Kelly of Palestine; and seven grandchildren.
Jason DeWayne Conley
Services for Jason DeWayne Conley, 22, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church in Montalba with the Revs. Jesse Johnson and Michael Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Conley died Friday at his home.
He was born March 16, 1980 in Palestine to John and Evanger Jackson Conley.
Mr. Conley attended Palestine schools. In 2002 he was enrolled in Gary Job Corps in San Marcos. He attended House of Prayer Church in Athens.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.T. and Myrtie Conley and Isaac and Pearla Mae Jackson.
Mr. Conley is survived by his mother of Tennessee Colony and his father of Montalba; sisters, Michele Conley of Palestine and Amanda Lewis of Tennessee Colony; brothers, Floyd Conley of Indiana, Jonathan Conley and Justin Conley, both of Tennessee Colony, and Jeremy Conley of Palestine.
Pallbearers will be Donald Barrett, Gerald Barrett, Joseph Jones, Terrence Lewis, Richard Swanson and Paul Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Stevens and Demetrius Twine.
Geraldine Dixon
Services for Geraldine Dixon, 76, of Fairfield, were at 2 p.m. today at Bethany Cemetery in Spring Hill, Ark. Arrangements were under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
Mrs. Dixon died Tuesday in Fairfield.
She was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Arkansas to Otis and Rebecca Murray.
Mrs. Dixon was an apartment manager and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Dixon; daughter, Penny Jo Dixon; and one grandchild.
Mrs. Dixon is survived by her daughter, Brenda Nell Dixon of Athens; sisters, Darlene Hogue of Overton and Melba Joan Spencer of New London; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Elva Barton Thornton
Services for Elva Barton Thornton, 88, of Athens, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Athens with the Rev. James F. Bond and Dr. Kyle Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Judson Cemetery in Cayuga under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Thornton died Tuesday at East Texas Medical Center of Athens.
She was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Cayuga to Richard Earnest and Jewel Vesta Harton Barton.
Mrs. Thornton graduated from high school in Palestine, attended East Texas Baptist College in Marshall and Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville. She resided in Midland from 1951 to 1965 and in Houston from 1965 to 1969. She moved to Athens in 1970.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens where she taught Sunday School and was the director of Women’s Missionary Union. She was a genealogist and historian.
Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. “Ted” Thornton; an infant son; and grandson, Clark Thornton.
She is survived by sons, C.L. Thornton Jr. of Streetman and Richard Darrell Thornton of Athens; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bill Cogdell, Ricky Simmons, David Hull, David Kelley, Dr. Bob Foster and Osborne Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Bowles, Leroy Barton and C.W. Harton.

Betty Ann Speed
Services for Betty Ann Speed, 45, of Abilene, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Fairfield with the Rev. Mack Roller officiating.
Interment will follow at Lake Chapel Cemetery outside of Fairfield under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
Mrs. Speed died Sunday at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.
She was born Aug. 18, 1957, in Fairfield to William Robert and Bessie Speed.
Mrs. Speed was preceded in death by her father; and brother, Bobby Speed.
She is survived by her mother, Bessie Speed; sisters, Jeanette Stark, Patsy Stark, Dixie Watson, Donna Kay Bishop, Carolyn Stark and Mary Stark; brothers, Robert Glen Speed, Jerry Speed and Johnny Speed; foster mother, Beverly Westbrook; foster sisters, Linda Johnson and Tina Benefield; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Randy Stark, Robert Glen Speed II, Michael Speed, Matthew Stark, William Stark and Anthony Stark.

Henry Harvey Walker Sr.
Services for Henry Harvey Walker Sr., 67, of Palestine, were at 11:30 a.m. today at Magnolia Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Andrews officiating.
Mr. Walker died Monday at his home.
He was born June 26, 1935 in Anderson County to Henry Roy and Mary Ann Heath Walker.
Mr. Walker was a loader and worked for William George produce for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ann Ima Parker Walker.
He is survived by a son, Harvey Walker Jr. of Palestine; sister, Elizabeth Lambert of Palestine; and brother, Leroy Walker of Palestine.
Alvis William Norton
Services for Alvis William Norton, 80, of Elkhart, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Westside Assembly of God with the Rev. Larry Tilmon officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Norton died Saturday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 1, 1922 in Clay City, Ill. to William and Oddia Norton.
Mr. Norton was a retired painter. He was a member of Westside Assembly of God. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by daughters, Phyllis Lathrop of Palestine and Avis Easley of Tennessee; son, Charles Norton of Illinois; sister, Wilma Dunlap of Illinois; half-brother, Jim Norton of Illinois; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Littleton Sharpe
Services for Littleton Sharpe, 78, of Tennessee Colony, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tennessee Colony Church with Barry Roberts officiating. He was cremated.
Mr. Sharpe died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center in Palestine.
He was born Sept. 22, 1924 in Alton, Ga. to Milton and Ida Sharpe. He was the owner of Chuck Wagon for more than 15 years.
Mr. Sharpe is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee Power Sharpe of Tennessee Colony; sons, Tom Sharpe of Grand Junction, Colo., Brian Noble and Alan Noble, both of Allen, and Mike Noble of Illinois; a daughter, Elizabeth Sharpe Overman of Jackson, Miss.; brother, Hurb Sharpe of Durango, Colo.; and a host of grandchildren.
Douglas L. Parsons
Funeral arrangements for Douglas L. Parsons, 85, of Palestine, are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mr. Parsons died Wednesday night at his home.
