Burk

Starett McManus Burk, 25, of Wallisville, Texas, died unexpectedly, with his dog Gus by his side, while doing what they loved most, ducking hunting on Saturday, January 7, 2017, in Calhoun County, Texas.

He was a loving son, brother, grandson and dear friend to many. Starett was born on March 6, 1991, in Baytown, Texas, to Donnie and Tracey McManus Burk. He graduated from Anahuac High School, Class of 2009, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University in 2013.

Starett had a passion for hunting, fishing, golfing, and family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac. On January 7, 2001, Starett accepted Christ into his life. Starett had a huge heart, and his smile could always brighten a room. He was an Analyzer Technician for Targa Resources in Mont Belvieu, where he worked for the past three years. Starett will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Starett was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, V.R. and Margie McManus, and his paternal grandfather, David Burk. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his parents, Donnie and Tracey Burk of Wallisville; his siblings, Stoney Burk and wife Rylee of Mont Belvieu, Stetson Burk of Wallisville and Steely Burk of Wallisville; his paternal grandmother, Carolyn Chennault of Liberty; his aunts and uncles, Patti Humber, Robbie McManus, Tammy McManus, and Danny Burk; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Honoring the family and serving as pallbearers will be Carter Boles, Brandon Brock, Phillip Drake, Blake Edwards, Jett Hankamer, Dylan Jones, Chris Lancon, Colton Laskoskie, Blake Sanders, Sammy Solis.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Starett McManus Burk Memorial Scholarship fund at Anahuac National Bank, P.O. Drawer N, Anahuac, Texas, 77514.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street, Anahuac, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Anahuac, 405 Magnolia Avenue, Anahuac, Texas. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Worthy cemetery, Liberty, Texas. .

Humphrey

Mable Jewel Humphrey, of Baytown formerly of Anahuac died Jan. 02, 2017.

Services are Jan. 07, 2017 at Lilly of The Valley COGIC 1222 Main St. Anahuac, TX. Visitation will begin at 1PM until funeral at 2PM.

Mable Jewel Humphrey was born in Anahuac, TX on August 13, 1948 to the late Dave and Azalee Lyons. She attended school in Anahuac, TX at Carver and in Double Bayou.

She was loved by many and everyone loved all those stories she told and the jokes that followed. She was the life of the party, a member of Lilly of the Valley Church, and a senior coordinator at Piedmont Apartments in Baytown, TX. For many years she worked for Chambers County and served as a volunteer in anything she could until then end of her life.

Later in life Mable married her husband of 29 years Chester M. Humphrey and from there they had 5 children. She also raised 2 children as her own, Timothy Lyons and Rhonda Wells.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: Her sisters Daisy Lee Hill and Jackie Shields. Her Brothers: Arthur Lyons and Frank Shield Jr. Children: Chester V. Humphrey, Emma Toran, Joseph Humphrey (Gloria), Dion Humphrey (Clora) and Valerie Humphrey. 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, a very special friend who was there at all times Robert Lee Smith and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Humphrey's services have been entrusted to Proctor's Mortuary (Locations in Anahuac, Beaumont, Silsbee and Woodville, TX.) .

Lewis

Betty Lewis 84, of Silsbee, TX; peacefully died Sunday, January 1, 2017.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 07, 2017 at First Missionary Baptist Church 625 N. 2nd St. Silsbee, TX. Visitation will begin at 9AM until funeral at 11AM. Interment will be in Kirby cemetery, Silsbee, TX.

Betty Lee Graham Lewis was born Tuesday, December 13, 1932 in Silsbee, Texas, Hardin County to the late Abraham and Commie Dill Graham. She was the last baby girl born into this loving Christian family.

Betty came to know the Lord at an early age. She accepted Christ and was baptized at First Missionary Baptist Church in Silsbee, Texas under the leadership of the late Reverend G. B. Holman. She married her childhood friend, Johnny Lee Lewis, and to this union, two beautiful children were born.

She served steadfastly throughout various church ministries including church pianist for forty years, Sunday school musician, president of the mission circle, youth department matron, member of the senior choir, Baptist Training Union (BTU), Vacation Bible School musician to name a few. She was very active in the Trinity Valley District Association for many years. She served as an assistant secretary of the Trinity Valley District Association Women’s Auxiliary. She also served on several committees. She served on the Worship Committee, the Secretaries Committee, and she was affiliated with the Leadership School. She was also always ready to serve as the musician whenever called upon.

She graduated from Frazier Matthews High School in 1948. Afterwards, she attended and graduated from Franklin Beauty School. She went on to open her own beauty salon, and had numerous clients throughout the Silsbee community. Later she attempted a short stent at Kirby Lumber Company. That proved to be more challenging than she anticipated. She continued her education at Chenier Business College, and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. She later began a career as a paraprofessional with Silsbee Independent School District where she remained until retirement.

She was a member of the Royal Clover Leaf Club, Silsbee Church Women United, and The Prayer Band. She loved serving and caring for others. She was famous for her ice-box pies. She was a people person who cherished many friendships. She was well known for sending cards to anyone she knew who was sick, or was celebrating a birthday, or perhaps some other milestone in their lives.

When her health began to diminish, Betty moved to Houston to live with her daughter, and son-in-law. She attended Windsor Village United Methodist Church with her daughter. She loved her some Rev. Kirbyjon H. Caldwell, and Kathy Taylor. Betty was a faithful servant of God as well as a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She loved fellowshipping with both her local, and home churches. She loved and missed Silsbee and her First Missionary Baptist Church family, she returned as often as she could. She loved the Lord and everyone who spent any time with her knew that. She was thrilled that her pastor, Rev. Wheaton and wife, Sis. Wheaton came to visit her when she was in the hospital.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Commie Graham; brothers, Nehemiah Graham, Elijah Graham, Curtis Graham and Abraham Graham; her sisters, Mable Graham Stanciell, Gladys Graham Scott and Geneva Graham Price. She endured trials as well as good times in her life. Her strong faith in God enabled her to press on and continue to trust in the Lord. Her favorite saying was, “Ain’t nobody like Him.” God blessed her life in so many ways and she was truly grateful.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 61 years, Johnny L. Lewis, Sr, her dedicated son, Rev. Johnny L. Lewis Jr. (Letha) of Pflugerville, TX; devoted daughter, Sharron Lewis Scott (Barney) of Missouri City, TX; four grandsons, Johnny L. Lewis, III (Kayshellyn) of Lancaster, TX, Justin Lewis and Jordan Lewis of Sugar Land, TX, Brandon Scott (Kendra) of Silsbee, TX; four great-grandchildren, Johnny L. Lewis IV, Blayr Kahmil Scott, Kyle Reed Scott, and Braeya Koryn Scott; godson, Wallace E. Lewis, Jr of Beaumont, TX; two sister-in-law’s, Wilma P. Graham of Portland, OR and Lucille Graham of Silsbee, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of wonderful church family members and friends.

Mrs. Lewis' services have been entrusted to Proctor's Mortuary (Locations in Anahuac, Beaumont, Silsbee and Woodville, TX.) ;

Lowe

Chief Warrant Officer II Lucas Maurice Lowe of Hardin, Texas, age 33, died December 28, 2016 during a training flight with the Army National Guard.

Lucas was born June 21, 1983 in Beaumont, Texas, to James Lowe Jr. and Melissa Myers.

Lucas was a wonderful family man who loved his wife, his children and his family more than anything else.

He loved his children more than life itself. With his contagious smile and happy personality, Lucas always lit up a room. He was an amazing Soldier who loved God and his country.

He always went out of his way to help lift others’ spirits and encouraged them to reach for higher success in life. He touched the lives of all who knew him. He loved camping in the woods, hunting, fishing, campfires, and good music. He enjoyed dancing, playing golf, cooking, and singing to brighten someone’s day. He always had a way of making someone’s day better. Admired by all, his courage and dedication made him a natural born leader. Lucas was a hard-working man who loved being in the service, loved his army brothers, and he absolutely loved to fly. He enlisted into the Army July 6, 2004. His deployments include Afghanistan for 11 months in 2005-2006 and Iraq for 14 months in 2007-2008. His job title on deployments was Field Artillery Fire Finder Radar Operator & Paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Division. Lucas later attended Warrant Officer Candidate School in Fort Rucker, Alabama where he also attended Flight School to become an AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter Pilot.

He was currently assigned to the 1st Battalion 149th Aviation Regiment 36th Infantry Division, Texas Army National Guard. He truly lived life to the fullest with his optimistic character and desire to take on the next big thing.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Mary Lee Lowe, maternal great-grandmother Faye Marberry and his paternal grandfather Lloyd Phillips.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Kami M. Lowe, sons Clayton Hanks and Lance Lowe, daughter Alysen Lowe and his twins “on the way” Logan Lowe & Tenley Lowe, mother Melissa Myers and husband Ricky, father James Lowe Jr. and wife Cindy, stepdad Robert Hanks II, grandmother Mary Phillips, grandfather Cecil Kachel, sisters Talisa Drown and husband David, Tommi Deckert and husband Trey, Hope Haley and husband Jordan, Whitley Eddy and husband Nick, Rachel Myers Childs and husband Cody, Britne Myers, Ashley Brackman and husband Justin, brothers Patrick Wiggins and wife Katerina, and Travis Wiggins. In addition, he leaves numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Visitation for Lucas will be held Tuesday from 5-8PM January 10, 2017 at North Main Baptist Church 4709 N. Main Liberty, Texas. Funeral service will be held 1PM Wednesday January 11, 2017 at North Main Baptist, with burial to immediately follow in Guedry cemetery with full military honors provided by the men and women of his unit.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lucas Lowe Family Benefit Account at Texas First Bank-Liberty (2103 N Main St, Liberty, TX 77575). Allison Funeral Service 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Butler

William “Lee” Leroy Butler, 48, of Dayton died Wednesday, January 4, 2017.

Services for Lee will be 12 noon, Monday, January 9, 2017 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until service time at 12 noon.

Lee was born on August 27, 1968 in Lake Wells, Florida to Lorna Livingston Kron and Richard Henry Butler. Lee resided in Dayton, Texas since November 2011. When Lee was very young his father was a tug boat captain and the family moved to Puerto Rico for his father’s work. Moving back to Florida as an adolescent Lee found work in the tobacco fields with his brother. Lee graduated from West Platte High School in Missouri in 1987. After Lee graduated his father was working in the construction field and Lee and his brother joined him where they worked for many years together. He worked some very interesting jobs including shaping golf course in Bulgaria for Jack Nicholson.

Above anything else in his life including the beautiful countries he travelled to his family was the most important thing in Lee’s life.

George, Lee’s step-father introduced him to his love of motorcycles as a young man. He quickly shared that love and enjoyed riding for many years. Lee had worked for Stericycle Environmental.

Lee married Dee in 2012 on the Manasota beach in Englewood, Florida where his grandfather had built a house for the family to enjoy.

Lee was preceded in death by his father, Richard Henry Butler, granddaughter, Addison “Addie” Day, and father-in-law, Omie D. Milum. He is survived by his wife, Dee D. Milum Butler of Dayton; mother and step-father, Lorna and George Kron of Fort Ogden, Florida; brother, Ritchie Butler of Fort Ogden, Florida; children: Dustin Whidden of Pidemont, Oklahoma, Trevor and Heather Day of Punta Gorda, Florida, William Leroy Butler, Jr. of Punta Gorda, Florida, Forest and Aaron Powell of Dayton, and Kutter Butler of Dayton; grandchildren: Lily Whidden, Dallas Whidden, River Whidden, Skylar Day, Jace Day, Cannon Day, and William Butler, III; mother-in-law: Betty Milum Billingsley of Crosby; In-laws: John and Veronica Clanton of Dayton, Texas, Jeff and Sarah Milum of Crosby, Texas, and Brian Milum of San Diego, California; nieces: Shelby and Katilyn Clanton of Dayton, Texas; also numerous other relatives, extended family members and friends.

Hargraves

Dorothy Mae Hargraves age 91 of Liberty died Thursday January 5, 2017 at Magnolia Place in Liberty, Texas.

Dorothy was born June 14, 1925 in East Bernard, Texas the daughter of the late Wiley Campbell Arnold and Gladys Allen Arnold. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, sewing, following her beloved Houston Astros, and attending the Liberty Opry. She loved to travel with her late husband Raymond, to Branson, Missouri and to their special beach house as well as follow her grandchildren wherever they played sports. Dorothy especially loved any time she could spend with her three boys and her adoring grand and her great-grandchildren. She was a devoted member to Heights Baptist Church for over seventy years. As a member of her church she worked with the bereavement group to feed and cook for those that lost loved ones and spent over thirty-five years in the nursery.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband Raymond “Hogy” Hargraves, brother Cecil Arnold, and her sisters Loritha Inman and Clara Arnold.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, Wayne Hargraves, Dale Hargraves his wife Bobbie, and Michael Hargraves. She also leaves her brothers George Arnold and his wife Alene, Marvin Arnold and wife Doris, and a sister Lois Bradberry. In addition, she leaves her five grandchildren, Rick Hargraves wife Jennifer, Gary Hargraves wife Lisa, Lyndi Bay husband Jim, Tammi Vanlandingham husband Drew, and Shane Hargraves. Eight great-grandchildren: Brooklynn; Laythe; MaKenna; Brantley; Elijah; Lana; Evan; and Gage. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services for Dorothy will be held 2PM Saturday January 7, 2017 at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial to take place in Cooke Memorial cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Heights Baptist Church in Dorothy’s memory.

McDaniels

Linda Gayle McDaniels, 66, of Daisetta, died on Monday, January 2, 2017 at her residence.

Gayle was born December 01, 1950 to George Cooper Jr and Bonnie Fregia in Dayton, TX and was a security guard most of her life, then worked for Hull-Daisettta ISD, and Wal-Mart.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing card games, dominoes, and entertaining friends. She was a member of Central Baptist Church most of her life, where she was a part of the choir and enjoyed singing.

A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, January 6th, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Central Baptist Church of Daisetta, 104 Red Bud Rd, Daisetta, with Reverend Leslie Gaines officiating. Cremation to follow.

The family will be receiving friends on Friday, January 6th, 2017 from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Central Baptist Church of Daisetta.

She is preceded in death by her father George Cooper Jr, stepfather, Howard Stengler, and husband Herb McDaniels Sr.

Survivors left to cherish memories are mother, Bonnie Stengler; sisters, Cheryl Broom and Carol Holder; brothers, David Cooper and wife Sylvia, and Tracy Stengler; step-daughter, Helen Rubio; step-son, Herb McDaniels Jr and wife Meli; uncle Duayne Cooper; cousin Paula Cooper, and her companion and caretaker of 28 years, Michael Harrison, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Bennett

Theresa Hanel Bennett, age 89 of Liberty, passed away January 4, 2017 at Magnolia Place in Liberty, TX.

Theresa was born June 19, 1927 in Cameron, TX, daughter of the late Oscar and Bertha Hanel. She loved working at Townsend Jewelry and various pharmacies. She also enjoyed working in her yard, sewing and crocheting. Theresa was a member of the Immaculate Conception Altar society and a faithful catholic.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, husband; R.C. (Kenny) Bennett, sister; Helen Wehring and brother-in-law Otto and brother-in-law Alvin. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, sisters; Rose Lee Soileau of Baytown, TX, Margie Ripkowski and husband Mike of Dayton, TX, niece; Kristi Ritchie and husband Billy of Baytown, TX, nephews; Keith Soileau and wife Mary Ann of Mount Belview, TX, Stephen Wehring and wife Vickie of Dripping Springs, TX, Gary Ripkowski of Allen, TX, Robert Ripkowski and wife Amy of Dayton, TX and R.C. (Bob) Bennett and wife Sheryl of Sugarland, TX. She is also survived by numerous other great nieces and nephews along with a host of great friends.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff and volunteers of Magnolia Place for the special care they gave and provided Theresa in her time of need. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Theresa’s memory to the Altar Society Bereavement Fund at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty, TX or the Altar Guil at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton, TX.

Services for Theresa Hanel Bennett will be Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 411 Milam, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at the catholic cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be Friday, January 6, 2017 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with rosary starting at 5pm.
