Homer "H.D." Crawford

BROWNWOOD -- Funeral services for Homer "H.D." Crawford, 65, of Brownwood, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday Aug. 2 at Netherton Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Crawford died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Irma Stewart

COMANCHE -- Funeral services for Irma Stewart, 93, of Southlake, will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Upshaw officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home.

Mrs. Stewart died Friday, July 25, 2003, at C.L.C. Woodridge Nursing Home in Grapevine.

She was born Feb. 20, 1910, in Colorado City, a daughter of Hall Jarman and Mary Ella (Kelly) Jarman. She married Charles Edward Stewart on Jan. 25, 1929, in Colorado City. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1972.

She is survived by granddaughter and husband, Cynthia and Dan Shaner of Georgetown; grandson and wife, Michael and Nancy Carnahan of Southlake; grandson, Christopher Carnahan of Dallas; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and daughter, Betty Carnahan, who died Feb. 6, 2002.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 804 W. Wright, Comanche, TX 76442 or to the American Lung Association of Texas, Central Region, P.O. Box 26566, Austin, TX 78755-0566.

A. R. (Whiz) Whisenhunt

Argie Ray Whisenhunt died at Scott and White Hospital in Temple Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, after a battle with cancer at the age of 75. Argie was born on Dec. 12, 1927, in Eustace, Texas, to Lilly May (Jackson) Whisenhunt and Richard Minor Whisenhunt. After graduating from high school in East Texas, he served in the U. S. Army. Whisenhunt was a World War II Vet and served in Okinawa. He also served during the Korean conflict. Whisenhunt then attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, where he received a B. S. and M. Ed. Degree. Whisenhunt moved to Mullin, where he served as an educator in the Mullin school for 32 years. Whiz taught Vocational Agriculture for 12 years and then became superintendent of school for the next 20 years. He was involved in coaching for several years. Whiz retired from the Mullin School in 1984. Whisenhunt was well known for his service to the community and surrounding area. He served as a City of Mullin official for some 30 years, of which 20 years were served as the town's mayor. Whiz served on the Board of Region 12 Education Service Center in Waco for nine years and also served on the Central Texas Telephone Board of Directors for six years. He was a charter member of the Mullin Rodeo Association and has served as President of the Mills County Livestock Show. Whisenhunt has been very active in the Baptist Church of Mullin where he has served as Deacon for over 40 years. Whiz has served as the Commander of VFW Post 9807 and also the Commander of the American Legion Post 389.

A. R. Whisenhunt was preceded in death by his parents, Lilly May and Richard Whisenhunt; a sister, Virginia Whisenhunt; a brother, R. L. Whisenhunt; and a son, Danny Whisenhunt. Argie Whisenhunt is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clara Whisenhunt, of Mullin. They were married on Aug. 21, 1948, in Athens, Texas. He is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diann and Tommy Bottoms, of Mullin; son, Donald Whisenhunt, of Mullin; son and daughter-in-law, David and Dorothy Whisenhunt, of Zephyr; son, Delton Whisenhunt and his companion, Shirly Harper, of Early; daughter-in-law, and husband, Deann and Joe Everidge, of Brady. He is also survived by Teri Coburn, of Irving, and Eugene Williams, of Mullin, who are part of the Whisenhunt family. They lived in the Whisenhunt home until their graduation from school at Mullin. There are also seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 2, 2003, at the Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite. Interment will follow just outside of Mullin at the Duren Cemetery in the community of Duren.

The Whisenhunt family would like to express their gratitude to the Rev. Bill Ellis and all the members of the Mullin Baptist Church and to the community of Mullin and the surrounding area for all the support shown to the family during this time of need. The family would like to request that instead of flowers and cards that memorial contributions be made to the Mullin Independent School District Scholarship Fund in the name of A. R. (Whiz) Whisenhunt.

D. C. Pruett

Funeral services for D. C. Pruett, 76, of Early, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation will follow his services. Mr. Pruett died on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Abilene. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Ronnie W. Ferguson

ABILENE -- Funeral services for Ronnie W. Ferguson, 57, of Hawley, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Hawley with Revs. Kyle Gulledge and Don Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Pulltite Cemetery (a.k.a. Central Cemetery) in Jones County. Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 No. 2nd St. in Abilene is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at the funeral home.

Mr. Ferguson died Monday, Nov. 17 at a hospital in Abilene.

He was born Oct. 14, 1946 in Brownwood, the son of James Weldon and Clois McClanahan Ferguson. He graduated from Bangs High School and served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Vietnam War. He married Sheila Janice Ingram on July 7, 1979 at the First Baptist Church in Hawley. He had lived in Hawley for the last 12 years and for the last three years had been the owner/operator of the Diamond Auto Detail Shop in Abilene.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila J. Ferguson of Hawley; two sons, Ben Ferguson and his wife, DeLische, of Arlington, and Cody Ferguson, presently serving a tour in the U.S. Navy on the USS Port Royal; a daughter, Shanna Parr, and her husband, James, of Hawley; two brothers, Larry Ferguson and his wife, Pat, of Brownwood, and Jack Ferguson and his wife, Sherry, of Bangs; one sister, Pat Whisenhunt, of Abilene; and three grandchildren.

Amos R. Regian Sr.

Services for Amos R. Regian Sr., 80, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Netherton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lyn Rice officiating. Interment will follow in the Cowboy Cemetery in McCollogh County. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Regian died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at San Angelo Community Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Whon, Texas, to John and Annie Regian. He had been a resident of Brownwood for 26 years. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, the Masons and the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II, in which he received two Bronze Stars, among other decorations. He married Wilma Fay Barclay on May 20, 1948, in Brady.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Steve Regian, Johnnie Regian, Monroe Regian, T.J. Regian, Alton Regian, William K. Regian and Robert Regian and sisters Lillie Womack, Leona Gray and Roberta Regian.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Regian; one son, Amos Ray Regian Jr. of Bowie; one daughter, Sonia Jennische of Houston; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ellie Elliott

Services for Ellie Elliot, 93, of Rising Star, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Church of Christ with Richard Massey officiating. Interment will be in the Rising Star Cemetery under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home.

Mrs. Elliott died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in Rising Star.

She was born Feb. 13, 1911, in Cross Plains to John Clark and Tennie Pierce Clark. She married Chuck Elliott on July 28, 1930, in Comanche County, Okla. She was a member of the Church of Christ and had been a lifelong member of the community. She lived on a ranch near Carbon for about 27 years. She was known to many as Miss Ellie. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Chuck Elliott; her parents, John and Tennie Clark; two brothers, Alton and Skeet Clark and one sister, Jessie Swift.

Survivors include her sister, Ollie Burns of Carrollton and several nieces and nephews.

Albert Jones Jr.

"The race is not given to the swift or the strong, but to those who endure." Albert Jones Jr., 73, beloved husband for more than 55 years, proud father, doting grandfather, died peacefully Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

The service of praise and celebration for his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, at Greater Faith Community Church with Bishop Aaron C. Blake Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery.

His casket will be borne with honor by Jason Sliger, James Sliger, Richard Moore, Emmitt Gaines, Joe Bob Richardson and Charles Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be James Hogan, E.L. Lowe, Jewel Brown, George Sharp, Donald Blake and Isaiah "Son" Luckey.

Albert Jones Jr. was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Alto to Albert and Mary Whitaker Jones. He moved to Brownwood in 1945 and was a graduate of the historical R.F. Hardin High School. He then attended Sam Houston College, now Houston-Tillotson College, in Austin. He married Ella B. Diggs on June 2, 1948, in Brownwood. They remained a loving couple for more than 55 years.

Quietly and unselfishly, with no fanfare or trumpets, or roll of drums, he went about his tasks, week after week, year after year, ever striving to make a good living for his family. He worked for Superior Cable, now Superior Essex, for more than 33 years until his retirement.

In his quiet, unassuming way he has ever been an example for the children in his family to follow. He was a member of Greater Faith Community Church. He was a member of National Association of Senior Friends, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), United Neighbors Involved to Improve (UNITI) and R.F. Hardin Museum, Inc. Over the years he worked for and donated to many community events.

Always encouraging, he was proud of the accomplishments of his children and his grandchildren. We, his family, thank God for his patience with us, his desire to help us, for his fine example of character and hard work and his advice which he gave willingly. He set standards in life we will never forget.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ella B.; his children Charles Ray Jones Finley and his wife, Beatrice, of Applevalley, Calif., Mary Helen Nelson and her husband, Eddy, of Bay City, Patricia Jones of Houston, Wanda Rainey of Brownwood, Tony Jones and his wife, Gwen, of Brownwood, Rebecca Green of Lancaster and Roderick Jones and his wife, Donna, of Brownwood; one brother, M.C. Tilman of Brownwood; grandchildren Kimberly Jones, Marcy Wilson, Jason Jones, Kourtney Jones, Rashya Jones, Roderick Jones, Josh Culp, Christopher Jones, Sara Green, Rachel Green, Shawanda Jones, Corina Saldana, Ebonee Norman, Hailey Smith, Kristen Smith, Trenice Finley, Chadrick Finley, Melissa Finley and Charles Finley Jr.; great-grandchildren Madison Jones and Paige Wilson and a number of cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Albert Jones Jr. was always on the alert to help his fellow man, and his influence will live long to be felt by those who were encouraged, helped and cheered by his advice, friendship and counsel.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Heartland Funeral Home.

Dan Ross Waggoner

Services for Dan Ross Waggoner, 78, of Comanche, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Comanche First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche under the direction of Hall & Sons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Hall & Sons Funeral Home

Mr. Waggoner died Thursday, June 3, 2004, in a Brownwood care center.

He was born July 20, 1925, in Fort Worth to the late H.E. and Maude B. Jones Waggoner. He married Ruth Adele Moore on June 14, 1947.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Elaine Monroe and two brothers, Huel Waggoner and Reginald Waggoner.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruth Adele Moore Waggoner; one daughter, Beth Dixon of Carrollton; one son, David Waggoner and his wife Phyllis, of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Weldon Waggoner and his wife, Adelle, of Comanche; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ellen Elizabeth Early Lamkin Boya

KNOXVILLE, TENN -- Ellen Elizabeth Early Lamkin Boya, 79, of Knoxville, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon, Jan. 4, 2004, at the Solway Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the Lebanon Cemetery in Karns under the direction of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church, preceding the service.

Ellen was born in Brown County on Oct. 17, 1924. She attended Howard Payne University and majored in education. She taught school for 28 years in Robstown and Los Fresnos, Texas. She was a member of the Solway Baptist Church.

Ellen was preceded in death by two husbands, Waters Lamkin, her childhood sweetheart, killed in action during World War II and Ted Boya, Sr.; two children, Laurellen and Ted Boya, Jr. and one grandchild, Tim Boya.

Survivors include: one daughter, Debbie Hackney and husband, Ted; one sister, Hallie Johnson and husband, Bill, of San Angelo; two grandchildren, Alan Hackney and Otis Hackney and wife, Ashley; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kristian, Jacob and Bailey Ellen Hackney.

Leroy Janner

GOLDTHWAITE -- Services for Leroy Janner, 65, of San Antonio were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite with Don Kingman officiating. Interment followed in St. John Cemetery in Priddy.

Mr. Janner died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at South Texas Health Care in San Antonio.

He was born Oct. 20, 1938 in Hamilton to Ed and Martha Schrader Janner. He married Norma Adams on June 20, 1964 in Goldthwaite. He moved from Priddy to San Antonio in 1965. He was a Lutheran. He worked as a plumber. Mr. Janner served in the Vietnam war.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Janner of San Antonio; a daughter, Rhonda Harrison of San Antonio; five step-daughters, Betty Ellis of Granbury, Martha Thompson of Plano, Shirley Treadway of Brownwood, Brenda Harvey of Adkins and Debbie Rauschuber of San Antonio; one step-son, Jim Babbitt of Spring Branch; one brother, Carl Janner of Priddy; three grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ronnie Lee Proctor

A memorial service for Ronnie Lee Proctor, age 44, of Brownwood, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ruben Packer officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Ronnie died on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, in Brownwood after a long illness. He was born on April 23, 1959, in Big Lake, to Barney and Ophelia Barrington Proctor.

Ronnie is survived by: a son, Johnny Ray Proctor, of Brownwood; his mother, Ophelia Proctor, of Brownwood; two brothers, Marvin Jackson of Tuscon, Ariz. and Steve Proctor and wife Diane, of Brownwood; three sisters, Linda Baggett, of Brownwood, Brenda Rambo, of Early, and Barbara Donahower, of Early; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a nephew, J.J. Donahower.

Jovita B. Jaurige

Jovita B. Jaurige, 77, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in Oklahoma City, Okla. No services are scheduled at this time.

She was born on Oct. 9, 1926, in Devine, the daughter of the late Fidencio Balderrama and Marcela Morales Balderrama.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Borjas, Peter Jaurige and Desiderio J. Jaurige and wife, Amanda; daughter, Nancy Martinez and husband, Tony; brothers, Henry Balderrama, Freddy Balderrama, Jerry Balderrama and Robert Balderrama; sisters, Angie, Josie Lietch and Sally Thomas; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Wanda Woods

Funeral services for Wanda Woods of Brownwood are pending with Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mrs. Woods died early this morning at the age of 76.

Groner A. Pitts

Funeral services for Groner A. Pitts, Brownwood business man and civic leader will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at the First Baptist Church in Brownwood. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm. on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Pitts died early this morning at the age of 79, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Benny Anderson

GOLDTHWAITE -- Graveside services for Benny Anderson, 64, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in the Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Allen officiating. Iterment will follow under the direction of Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home of Goldthwaite.

Mr. Anderson died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

He was born on July 2, 1939, the son of Joe Bailey Anderson and Mildred Spinks Anderson.

Survivors include his son, Craig Anderson of Memphis Tenn.; two grandchildren; one brother, Bobby Hammond of Goldthwaite and one uncle.

Opaline M. Pope

COLEMAN -- Mrs. Opaline M. Pope, 92, of Coleman, passed away on March 27, 2004, at the Holiday Hill Nursing Center.

Born May 9, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Willie Mae Scivally. On Dec. 23, 1928, she married Charles Edwin Pope. He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1984. A resident of Coleman County since 1972, she was a retired homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Burkett of Coleman and Edwina Freeman of Cambridge, Idaho; two sons, Gene Pope of Cuero and Burnie Pope of Jacksonville, N.C. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sam Tomlinson officiating and the Rev. Marty Reed, assisting. Interment will follow in the Burkett Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, March 30, at the funeral home.

Ruby Ethel Halford

Funeral services for Ruby Ethel Halford, 89, of Brady, are pending with Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.

Ms. Halford died Sunday, March 28, 2004, in Brady.
