Aron Willis
Services for Aron Willis, 60, of Fort Worth, and formerly of Oakwood, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Shiloh Cemetery in Oakwood on FM 489. Emanuel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Willis died Jan. 31 in Fort Worth.
He was born Dec. 8, 1941 in Oakwood to Chavous and Loise Andy Willis.
Mr. Willis attended Butler public schools. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from March 26, 1964 to March 17, 1966. He was employed by Bell Helicopter for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Lincoln Willis, Benny Willis and Byrd Willis.
Mr. Willis is survived by children, Aron Oneal Willis of Tacoma, Wash. and Dana Louise Willis of Bellmead; brothers, James Willis, Phillip Willis and Abraham Willis, all of Fort Worth, and Oscar Willis of Oakwood; sisters, Mary Jones of Fort Worth and Lobelia Burns of Oakwood; and a grandson.
Nancy Lou Thompson
Services for Nancy Lou Thompson, 61, of Dime Box, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lakewood Chapel Funeral Home in Lake Jackson with the Revs. David F. Johnson and Demar R. Johnson officiating. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. today at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
Mrs. Thompson died Tuesday at her home.
She was born Dec. 30, 1940.
Mrs. Thompson lived in Brazosport for 35 years and was a bank teller for 25 years. She and her husband retired to Dime Box in 1993. She worked at the State Bank in Dime Box since 1995.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Jo Thompson; her father, John Lee Clark and two brothers, Johnny Clark and Melvin Clark.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, H. Glenn Thompson of Dime Box; mother, Lula Belle Johnson; sister, Mary Johnson; brothers, Charles Johnson, Jerry Johnson and Curtis Johnson; children, David Johnson of Palestine, Brian Thompson of Rockdale and Sheryll Paulson of Keller; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Charles Clark, Jerry Clark, Curtis Clark, Sam Thompson, Bob Paulson, Kenneth Lookingbill and Seth Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler and Trevor Paulson and Jesse and Matthew Johnson.
Aurtria Jones Sr.
Services for Aurtria Jones Sr., 69, of Houston, and formerly of Oakwood, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairfield Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Brown Chapel Cemetery in Oakwood under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones died Thursday in Houston.
He was born Dec. 20, 1932, in Freestone County to Kenchion and Walonia Jones.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a brother, Lofton Jones; and son, Aurtria Jones Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Girtie Jones of Houston; children, Claudette Thomas, Terry Jones, Janas Jones, Cynthia Standberry, Gwendolyn Jones, Keith Jones and Daphne Nelson; two grandchildren he reared, Venezuelan Jones and Tangela Jones-Bond; siblings, Fedelma Malone, Frank Jones, Napoleon Jones, Hure Lee Jones, Eugene Jones, Thelma Washington, Celesto Lincoln, Darlene Wyatts, Alvin Jones and Kenchion Jones; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Lonell Larkin
Services for Lonell Larkin, 41, of Springfield, Ill., and formerly of Oakwood, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union United Methodist Church in Oakwood, with burial to follow in Pine Top Cemetery with Warren G. Sandifer officiating. Emanuel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Larkin died Jan. 29 in Springfield, Ill.
He was born May 30, 1960 in Palestine to Nelson Lee and Arthie Jean Bailey Larkin.
Mr. Larkin attended Fairfield public schools. He moved to Springfield, Ill. in 1980.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son.
Mr. Larkin is survived by children, Jeffery Larkin and Claude Larkin, both of Oakwood, Lonell Larkin Jr. and Lorraine Larkin, both of Springfield, Ill.; sisters, Senthis Jones of Alexandria, Va., Jacqueline L. Amos and Wanda Larkin, both of Cedar Hill, and Tracee L. Larkin of Greenbelt, Md.; a brother, Steve Larkin of Palestine; grandmother, Noble Lee Larkin of Tennessee Colony; and a grandson.
Norman Carroll Tyer
Services for Norman Carroll Tyer, 51, of Palestine will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Palestine with Ron Davis officiating. He was cremated. Emanuel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Tyer died Monday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1951 in Palestine to Malvin and Teopal Wood Tyer.
Mr. Tyer attended and received his education in Elkhart public schools. He entered active duty in the U.S. Army on Feb. 26, 1968 and received an honorable discharge on June 3, 1971 with the ranking of E-6. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Virginia Viola Tyer.
Mr. Tyer is survived by children, Roger Tyer, Alicia Tyer and Virginia Tyer, all of Germany; fiancee, Cheree Cleveland of Palestine; brother, John Tyer of Palestine; sisters, Ruby Richey of Bossier City, La., Juanita Parks of Houston and Doris Allison of Palestine; and three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be mailed to Doris Allison at 7135 FM 322, Palestine, Texas 75801.
Condolence calls and dinner will be received at the church following the service.
James Calvin Smith
Funeral arrangements for James Calvin Smith are pending at Davis Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith died today in a Tyler hospital.
Hannah Scott
Funeral arrangements for Hannah Scott, 92, are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Scott died this morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
Gerald Wright “Jerry” Pridgen
Private memorial services for Gerald Wright “Jerry” Pridgen, 57, of Ossining, N.Y., and formerly of Grapeland will be held at a later date.
Mr. Pridgen died Wednesday morning at his residence in New York.
He was born June 16, 1944 in Houston County to Harry C. and Nell Jones Pridgen.
Mr. Pridgen was preceded in death by his parents; and a stepmother, Margeuarite Pridgen.
He is survived by his brother, Harry Wayne Pridgen of Grapeland; three nephews and two great-nieces.
Memorials may be sent to the Grapeland Public Library in Grapeland.
Carlos Juan Perez
Services for Carlos Juan Perez, 31, of Palestine, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with Dr. Barry Roberts and the Rev. Antonio Herrera officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mr. Perez died Saturday at his residence.
He was born April 21, 1971, in Hoboken, N.J., to Carmen and Manuel Perez.
Mr. Perez was a Baptist. He had lived in Palestine for 20 years. He was a correctional officer at the Powledge Unit. He also had worked as a peace officer in Palestine and worked two years at the federal prison system in Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his mother in June 2001.
Mr. Perez is survived by his wife, Fatima Perez of Palestine; his father of Palestine; grandmother, Maria Perez of Puerto Rico; daughters, Carla Cristina Perez and Francheska Perez, both of Palestine; and brother, Manuel Perez of Pennsylvania.
Pallbearers will be Manuel Perez, Michael Crader, Jesse Perez and Robert Rios.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Rebecca “Becky” Rodgers
Services for Rebecca “Becky” Rodgers, 50, of Palestine, were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Roselawn Park with the Rev. Theo Johnson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Rodgers died May 24 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
She was born Aug. 13, 1951 in Palestine to Robert Russell and Iola Walker Russell.
Mrs. Rodgers had been employed as an office manager at Neel Chevrolet in Oakwood.
She is survived by a daughter, Crystal Rodgers of Palestine; mother and stepfather, Iola and Sydney Hall of Palestine; father and stepmother, Robert and Gene Russell of Amarillo; sister, Pam Lathrop of Buffalo; and brother, David Russell of Amarillo.
Pallbearers were Chris Riggs, Dusty Riggs, Aaron Walker, Ben Cox, David Neel and Brenton Lathrop.
Rev. Georgia Ann Vaughn Rundless
Services for the Rev. Georgia Ann Vaughn Rundless will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church in Dallas. Burial will follow in Teague Cemetery under the direction of Golden Gate Funeral Home of Dallas.
Mrs. Rundless died Saturday in Dallas.
A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.
