Irene Siau Love, 87, of Newton died April 18, 2000 at her residence.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home in Newton with burial at Sand Ridge Cemetery in Lewis Chapel. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Jasper, she lived in Newton County most of her life.

Survivors include sons, Robert E. "Mickey’’ Love, Harold E. Love and Wayne E. Love, all of Newton, Lloyd E. Love of Beaumont and Ennis E. Love of Jasper; daughters, Lois Grimes of Newton and Mary Brinkley of Lufkin; sister, Mertie Mock of Silsbee; 32 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

EVELYN ‘JIMMIE’ MARTIN

Evelyn "Jimmie’’ Martin, 90, of Bridge City died April 18, 2000 at Avalon Place Nursing Home in Kirbyville.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna with burial at Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

A native of Cushing and a former resident of Orangefield and Port Arthur, she lived in Bridge City most of her life.

Survivors include her son, Charles Raleigh of Burkeville; grandchildren, Charles Richard Raleigh and Mellie Charmaine Raleigh; and great-grandchildren, Stephen Michael Raleigh and John Richard Raleigh.

WILLIE T. MATLOCK

Willie T. Matlock, 65, of Compton, Calif., died April 15, 2000 at a Compton hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brighter Day Baptist Church in Compton with burial in Los Angeles under the direction of Winston Mortuary in Compton.

A native of San Augustine, he lived in Compton several years.

Survivors include his mother, Sarah Matlock of San Augustine; brothers, Wallace James Holman of San Augustine and Herbert Earl Matlock of Houston; and sisters, Lee Ella Lane, Earnestine Teel and Wanda Dean Matlock, all of San Augustine, and Sarah Carro of Houston.

ROBERT DOUGLAS McKINNON

Robert Douglas McKinnon, 45, of Kirbyville died April 17, 2000 at Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Bean Cemetery.

A native of Kountze, he lived in Kirbyville most of his life and was an auto mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl McKinnon of Kirbyville; son, Bobby Lee McKinnon of Kirbyville; mother, Wilder McKinnon of Kirbyville; brothers, Preston McKinnon, Grady McKinnon and David H. McKinnon, all of Kirbyville, and Dana McKinnon of Woodville; and sisters, Keena Berry of Kirbyville and Bertha E. Parker of Call.

THOMAS T. OWENS SR.

Thomas T. Owens Sr., 72, of Lake Charles, La., died April 14, 2000 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Baptist Church in Lake Charles with burial at Combre Memorial Park in Lake Charles under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel in Lake Charles. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.

A native of Baldwin, La., he lived in Lake Charles most of his life and was a retired International Contractor Laborer with Local No. 207.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Mae Milburn Owens of Lake Charles; son, Thomas Owens Jr. of Lake Charles; and four grandchildren.

RUTHIE MAE SIMMONS

Ruthie Mae Simmons, 94, of Silsbee died April 18, 2000 at Silsbee Convalescent Center.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Cunningham Cemetery in Silsbee. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of DeRidder, La., she lived in Silsbee most of her life and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Alma Lucille Mathis of Silsbee; two sisters; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

JAMES J. UTITZ

James J. Utitz, 81, of Beaumont died April 18, 2000 at his residence.

A private entombment under the direction of L.M. Williams & Sons Funeral Directors.

A native of Lake Charles, La., he lived in Beaumont 60 years and was a self-employed businessman.

Survivors include his wife, Joy B. Utitz of Beaumont; daughter, Jimmie Jay Utitz Jackson of Beaumont; stepson, David Vallee of Beaumont; sister, Jeanette Engle of Beaumont; and four grandchildren.

RICHARD LEON ‘GRUMPY’ VanHORN

Richard Leon "Grumpy’’ VanHorn, 69, of Beaumont died April 15, 2000 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

A native of Wichita, Kan., he lived in Beaumont several years and was a retired truck driver for Wilkerson Sand and Materials.

Survivors include sons, Pete Riley and Richard VanHorn, both of Vidor, and Michael VanHorn, Marvin VanHorn and John VanHorn, all of Silsbee; daughters, Brenda VanHorn Peterson and Cindy VanHorn Warren, both of Silsbee, and Lynette VanHorn Dean of Lumberton; brother, Lionel VanHorn of El Dorado, Kan.; sister, Evelyn Etter of Bethany, Okla.; seven grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

FRANK WATSON

Frank Watson, 77, of Buna died April 17, 2000 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna with a graveside service at 4 p.m. at Centerville City Cemetery in Centerville.

A native of Centerville and a former resident of Bridge City, he lived in Buna 20 years, was a retired operator for Gulf Oil and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his son, Gary Glynn Watson of Bridge City; daughter, Darlene Brown of Saratoga; stepsons, Gary Ray and Greig Ray, both of Seabrook, Glenn Ray of Bridge City; stepdaughters, Katie Hinson of Corsicana and Janice Lee of Conroe; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

ODELL WHITFIELD

Odell Whitfield, 70, of Beaumont died April 17, 2000 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lily of the Valley Baptist Church with burial at Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Calvary Mortuary. A quiet hour will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at Saturday at the church.

A native of Homer, La., he lived in Beaumont 48 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Hattie Quinn of Houston; sisters, Minnie Allen, Essie Whitfield and Gloria Vallery, all of Beaumont and Bertha Auston of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, John H. Whitfield, James Whitfield and Raymond Whitfield, all of Beaumont; and two grandchildren.

JAMES ‘JUNIOR’ ABEL

James "Junior’’ Abel, 73, of Daisetta died June 21, 2000 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton with burial at Guedry Cemetery in Batson. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native and lifelong resident of the Liberty area, he was a retired Tenneco production foreman and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Edwinea Abel of Daisestta; son, David Abel of Longview; mother, Adeline Hilton of Clearview, Fla.; brother, V.R. Hilton Jr. of Clearview; sister, Laura Ann Carricco of Daisetta; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

CURTIS RAY BARNES

Curtis Ray Barnes, 49, of San Augustine died June 17, 2000 at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at China Chapel Baptist Church in San Augustine with burial at Redland Cemetery under the direction of Percy Garner and Son Mortuary in San Augustine. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at the mortuary.

A native of San Augustine and former resident of Houston, he lived in San Augustine many years.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Barnes of San Augustine; father and stepmother, D.L. and Katherine Teel of Center; daughters, Tiffany Barnes of San Augustine and Crystal Taylor of Houston; sons, Curtis Barnes Jr. and R.D. Frank Barnes, both of Houston; brothers, Frank Teel of Houston and Wyatt C. Teel of Milam; sisters, Verna Cloudy of Center; and four grandchildren.

KYLE BRENNON BEDFORD

Kyle Brennon Bedford, 2˝ years old, of San Antonio died June 20, 2000 at University Hospital in San Antonio.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and Saturday at the funeral home.

A native of Burnsville, Minn., he lived in San Antonio most of his life.

Survivors include his mother, Darlene Barker Bedford of San Antonio; father, Louis Bedford of San Antonio; brother, Ryan Bedford of San Antonio; grandparents, Bill and Linda Barker of Groves; and great-grandparents, Anna Morris of Paradise, Calif., and Dan and Lena Post of Rye.

EDNA BRIGGS

Edna Briggs, 94, of China died June 19, 2000 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St Paul Baptist Church with burial at Live Oak Cemetery under the direction of Community Funeral Home on Irma Avenue. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

A native of Abbeville, La., she lived in China 70 years and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her sons, Hiblet Briggs Jr. and Warren Briggs, both of Beaumont, Lionel B. Briggs Sr. and David E. Briggs Sr., both of China, Houston Johnny Ray Briggs of Houston, Clyde Briggs of Humble and Donald Briggs of Missouri City; daughters, Stella Samuels of Beaumont, Edna Mae Russell of Houston and Virgie L. Gregoire of China; and 33 grandchildren.

KATHER PETE BRIGGS

Kather Pete Briggs, 38, of Beaumont died at his residence.

Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Funeral Home on Fannett Road with burial at Haven of Rest Crematory.

He was a native and lifetime resident of Beaumont who was self-employed.

Survivors include his sister, Nelda Humphrey of Beaumont; and brothers, Alex Briggs Jr. and Frank Lee Briggs, both of Beaumont.
