Norman Lemuel McLeod
Services for Norman Lemuel McLeod, 74, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Palestine City Cemetery with the Rev. Zacharias Kunnakkattuthara officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. McLeod died Sunday in Elkhart.
He was born April 14, 1927, in Melrose, Mass. to Melvin S. and Della Bacon McLeod.
Mr. McLeod was reared in Boston and had lived in Palestine since 1991. He was a Catholic.
Mr. McLeod retired in 1989 from the Bank of Boston after 35 years. He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. McLeod is survived by his wife, Connie Lee McLeod of Palestine; sons, Jay McLeod of Palestine and Jeffrey McLeod of Melrose, Mass.; daughter, Connie Glenn of Palestine; brother, Melvin McLeod Jr. of Boston; and six grandchildren.
E.C. “Dick” Shelton
Services for E.C. “Dick” Shelton, 80, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Tom Grissom officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Palestine Lodge No. 31 AF & AM.
Mr. Shelton died Monday night at Dogwood Trails Nursing Home.
He was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Hughes Springs to Walter J. and Ethel Shelton.
Mr. Shelton was a supervisor for the Monsanto Chemical Company. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Palestine Masonic Lodge No. 31 AF & AM, past master of Santa Rosa Lodge No. 16 in Milton, Fla. and worthy patron of Order of the Easter Star No. 189 in Milton, Fla. He also was a member of the Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite of Pensacola, Fla. and Sharon Temple of Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Gladys Stiles, Wilma Wilson and Mary Dena Fitzsimmons; and brothers, Orvil Shelton, Clovis Shelton, Reed Shelton and Winston Shelton.
Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife, Ollie Hilton Shelton of Palestine; daughter, Shirley Gentry of Vidor; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jayson Jenkins, William Cross, John Gentry, Scott Green, Aaron Duke and Brent Lawson.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Luster Richard
Funeral arrangements for Luster Richard of Crockett are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Richard died Sunday at his residence.
A.R. “Sonny” Sallee
Services for A.R. “Sonny” Sallee, 76, of Mount Enterprise were at 2 p.m. today at Smyrna Baptist Church with Joe Brooks and Stafford Harris officiating. Burial followed in Old Prospect Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home in Henderson.
Mr. Sallee died Sunday at Veterans Hospital in Houston.
He was born July 8, 1925 in Conroe.
Mr. Sallee was a retired oil field worker and carpenter. He was a Baptist and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Matlock Sallee of Mount Enterprise; sons, Raymon Allen Sallee of Houston, Hubert Ray Sallee of Houston; daughter, Etta Karen Jackson of Pasadena; sisters, Bernadine Pierce of New Caney, Elizabeth Griffin of Splendora and Louis Sallee of Mifflintown, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ricky Matlock, Mike Matlock, Gregg Matlock, Jerrald Moore, Johnny Sallee, David Sallee and Milton Sallee.
Honorary pallbearers were Masons of Mount Enterprise.
Laura Pearl Terry
Services for Laura Pearl Terry, 95, of Grapeland, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Hill United Methodist Church with the Revs. Roger Craiker and H.R. Stinson officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mrs. Terry died Sunday at Grapeland Nursing Home.
She was the oldest of eight children born to Jesse Robert and Ava Holcomb Moore in the Liberty Hill community. She married William H. Bill Terry in Lavaca County on Feb. 11, 1930.
Mrs. Terry was a cafeteria supervisor and member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 20, 1979; an infant son, Charles Wilburn Terry; brothers, Arnold Moore, Cecil Moore and J.B. Moore; sisters, Mary Alice Gale and Ollie Hogan; grandson, James David Bishop; and granddaughter, Kelly Yencer.
Mrs. Terry is survived by daughters, Wilma Bishop of Grapeland and Billie Yencer of Victoria; brother, Howard Moore of Liberty Hill community; sister, Faye Cutler of Liberty Hill community; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Lee Frederick, Charles Smith, Kevin Cutler, Alton Knopp, Tommy Joe Thompson and Willis Terry.

Betty Jean Schmidt
Services for Betty Jean Schmidt, 76 of Elkhart, will be held at a later date under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home in Palestine.
Mrs. Schmidt died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.
She was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Tulia to Monty and Anita Pierce Stroud.
Mrs. Schmidt had lived in Anderson County since 1970 coming from Houston. She had worked for Borden Company in Houston and later was co-owner and operator of the family AAA Restaurants in Houston and Palestine from 1953.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church and a former member of the Harvey Woman’s Club.
Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harry H. Schmidt of Elkhart; sons, George Terry Schmidt and Harry Schmidt Jr., both of Elkhart; daughter, Debbie Ruth Dancer of Elkhart; brother, Fred Stroud of Elkhart; and two grandchildren.
Ellen Huenerberg
Services for Ellen Huenerberg, 78, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park.
Mrs. Huenerberg died Monday at her residence.
She was born Oct. 25, 1923 in Weimer to Earl Roland and Missouri Virginia Adams Barrick.
Mrs. Huenerberg was a homemaker and a member of Christ Community Church.
She is survived by her husband, Hardy Phillip Huenerberg of Palestine; daughters, Ginger Cook and Sue Kindred, both of Grapeland, Madeleine Martin of Flynn, Janette Hranitzky of Shiner, Phyllis Shirey of Palestine and LaVeene Tatum of Tomball; sons, Kenneth Meeks of Ramsey, Minn. and Jerry Huenerberg of Humble; sister, Bella Brown of Livingston; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mary Ellan Wilson
Services for Mary Ellan Wilson, 67, of Jacksonville, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jerry Hawbaker and Mike McClure officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Troup.
Mrs. Wilson died Tuesday in Tyler.
She was born Aug. 25, 1934 in Elkhart.
Mrs. Wilson formerly worked on the loading crew at Powell’s Plant Farm in New Summerfield. She also was formerly a machine operator at Nichols-Kusan in Jacksonville and at Snoke’s Special Products in Jacksonville.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mixon.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband, John E. Wilson of Jacksonville; son, John Allen of Troup; daughter, Delores Odom of Jacksonville; brothers, Paul J. Munsinger and Curtis Munsinger, both of Jacksonville, Donald R. Munsinger of Palestine, and Billy W. Munsinger of Pennsylvania; sisters, Pauline Williams of Whitehouse, Charlsey A. Jakibuk of Troup and Virginia Woodall of Ore City; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the First Baptist Church, Mixon, building fund.
Odessa Weisinger Porter
Services for Odessa Weisinger Porter, 85, of Houston, are pending. She will be cremated.
Mrs. Porter died Saturday in Houston following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 25, 1917 in Houston County to William Monroe and Sadie Kate Phillips Weisinger.
Mrs. Porter attended school in Grapeland and Elkhart. She was married to Mark William Porter Jr. on June 10, 1938, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Baptist Temple in Houston where she was active in the choir, the Ukelele Group, the Senior Singers and the Senior Sunday School class.
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her husband; and daughter, Ima Lee Higgins.
She is survived by daughter, Norma “Nicki” Lane Hightower of Palestine; son, Mark W. Porter III of Houston; sister, Ima Lea Pierce of Palestine; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
If desired, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Funeral arrangements for Ernest Brown, 78, of Grapeland are pending at Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Brown died this morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
Eula Mason
Funeral arrangements for Eula Mason, 80, of Grapeland, are pending at Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mrs. Mason died this morning at East Texas Medical Center in Crockett.
Willie Mae Smith
Services for Willie Mae Smith, 51, of Houston, and formerly of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Cannan Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Price Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
Ms. Smith died Tuesday in Palestine.
She was born July 16, 1950 in Palestine to Johnnie Marie Smith.
Ms. Smith attended the Palestine ISD. She graduated from Palestine High School, and attended Prairie View A&M University, Texas Women’s University and Texas Southern University.
She received a bachelors’ degree and a master’s degree in nursing and education. She had credentials in fashion designing and food preparation. She was employed by Houston ISD, Herman Hospital for 20 years, and for Silver Spring Nursing Home.
Ms. Smith was a member of New Cannan Baptist Church. She later attended Holman Street Baptist Church in Houston. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son, Randy Smith of Houston; her mother, Johnnie Marie Smith; brothers, Robert Smith and the Rev. Dennis Smith, both of Palestine, and Darryl Smith of Houston; sister, Jackson Simon; and one great-granddaughter.
Roy Wilbur Stracener
Services for Roy Wilbur Stracener, 96, of Huntsville, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Richards United Methodist Church under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Holhausen-Darby Cemetery in Moscow.
Mr. Stracener died Sunday in Huntsville.
Mr. Stracener was a retired truck driver. After retirement he served for many years as chief of the Richards Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in World War II.
Mr. Stracener was a member of Richards United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Ruby Stracener.
Mr. Stracener is survived by seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
