Theresa Janik
Theresa Louise Janik, age 45, of Wharton, passed away Monday, April 5, 2004, in Wharton. She was born on Sept. 26, 1958, in Wharton, the daughter of the late Henry Janik and Bernice Havran Janik.
Theresa was a lifelong resident of Wharton County having lived in Wharton and Hungerford.
She was a homemaker and a former 16-year employee of H-E-B Food Store in Wharton. Ms. Janik was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford. She enjoyed crafts, gardening and cooking, especially baking, for her family and friends.
Funeral mass services were held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Holy Family Catholic Church with co-celebrants Rev. Joe Vrana and Rev. Henry Rachunek officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park. Rosary services were held Wednesday evening, April 4, 2004, at the Chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Glenn Kleas officiating.
Survivors include her daughter, Christi Chumchal of Wharton; sons, Thomas Mason II, Kurt Chumchal and Kyle Chumchal, all of Wharton; step-son, Ross Chumchal of Ganado; sisters, Barbara Nuckels of Cuero and Veronica Kirkland of Wharton; brothers, James and Kenneth Janik, both of Garner, N.C.; grandson, Gage Chumchal of Wharton; and step-father, Charlie Bock and wife, Corrian, of Wharton.
Pallbearers were Clint Kleas, Ronnie Gonzales, David Anders, David Nuckels, James Chumchal and John Stanford.
Honorary pallbearers were Carlton West, Mark Krenek and Dr. John Fink.

Charles Luco
Funeral services for Charles L. Luco, 85, of Wharton will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Wharton. Burial will follow in the Wharton City Cemetery.
Friends may call for visitation after 4 p.m. Sunday at Wharton Funeral Home
Mr. Luco died April 8, 2004, in a Wharton hospital following a sudden illness.
Elmer Lewis
Graveside services for Elmer Lewis Jr., 79, of Wallis, were held Wednesday, at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville with Rev. Tim Stowe officiating.
Mr. Lewis died July 3, 2004. He was born in Cromwell, Okla., the son of the late Elmer and Bertha Sara Beal Lewis Sr.
He was reared and attended school in Colgate, Okla. Mr. Lewis married the former Evelyn Coop in Huttichson, Kan., and she preceded him in death. He was a truck driver and Baptist by faith.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Charlie Macha of Wallis; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Francis of Inez; sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Adolph Bialek of Victoria; step-sister, Edith Debardelaben of Tomball; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ottis and Evelyn Lewis of Aurora, Mo., Bill Lewis of Pleasanton, Vernon and Barbara Lewis of Oklahoma City, Okla.; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Olan, Lee and Norman Wesley Lewis; sisters, Ella Mae Fiddler and Mildred Raeleigh.
Joe Krenek
Funeral services for Joe W. Krenek, age 84 of Wharton, will be held 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Vrana officiating. military graveside services and interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery under the directon of Wharton VFW. Rosary services were held Tuesday at Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating.
Mr. Krenek died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at his residence in Wharton. He was born Aug. 16, 1920, in Wharton, the son of the late John Peter Krenek and Mary Bartos Krenek.
He was a lifelong resident of Wharton and a graduate of Wharton High School. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Army Air Corps from July of 1942 until October of 1945. Mr. Krenek served as a waist gunner and assistant radio operator, 360th Bombardment Squadron, 303 Bombardment Group, based in England with the 8th Air Force. He flew 25 bombing missions from November 1943 through March 1944 over France and Germany. Mr. Krenek was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and Unit Citation Medal. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant and served as a military Police for two months before his discharge. Mr. Krenek married Myrtle Marie Rasmussen on Feb. 8, 1945, in Boise, Idaho. He was employed as a field mechanic by Texas Gulf Sulphur for 35 years until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Mr. Krenek was a member of the Wharton VFW and the Wharton American Legion Post No. 87, where he held various offices in both.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Krenek of Wharton; daughters, Karen Owens and husband, Billy, of Bay City and Teena Middleton and husband, Bruce, of Katy; sons, David Krenek and wife, Mary, of San Jose, Calif., Michael Krenek and wife, Sharon, of Spring and Wayne Krenek and wife, Jeanette, of Wharton; sisters, Agnes Spurr and Martha Welfel, both of Wharton, and Helen Miller of Bellaire; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Bedynek and Mary Borak, and by a granddaughter, Sara Krenek.

Doris Rice
Doris “Dolly” Cox Hudgins Shook Rice of Dallas died in Wharton on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005. She was born in Thorndale on Aug. 18, 1914, to the late William Thomas “W.T.” Cox and Maye Phillips Cox.
Mrs. Rice was reared in Bay City, where she moved shortly after birth. Following graduation from high school there, she attended Southwestern University in Georgetown. She married Green C. Hudgins Sr. on Nov. 4, 1933, and they lived together in Wharton together until his death in 1958. During their marriage they had three children. She later married John L. Shook, and moved to Dallas where they resided. After his death, she married George B. Rice, who also preceded her in death. She was a resident of Dallas for over 40 years. Mrs. Rice was a homemaker and member of the Highland Park Methodist Church in Dallas. While living in Wharton, she was a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary of Caney Valley Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services and interment will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at the Wharton City Cemetery with Rev. Paul Thomasson officiating. Her family will greet friends at the Wharton Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1 to 1:30 p.m.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Keller of Vero Beach, Fla., and Rachel Bardwell and husband, Charles, of Houston; son, Green Hudgins Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Pasadena; grandchildren, Scott Keller, Gregory Keller, Leslie Ramsey, Michelle Gould, Bruce Bardwell, Bryan Bardwell, Robert Hudgins, Cara Hudgins and Betsy Hudgins. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to either the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
Estella Arriaga
Estella Ochoa Arriaga, age 62, of Boling, died Sunday June 9, 2002 in Wharton. She was born on Sept. 23, 1939, in Goliad the daughter of the late Endicacion Ochoa and Carmen Rodriguez Ochoa.
Mrs. Arriaga was a 42-year resident of Boling and a former resident of Goliad and Lane City. She was a homemaker and Christian by faith. She married Liandro Becerra Arriaga on May 22, 1960, in Wharton and was preceded in death by him on Sept. 28, 1994.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Atherton officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A prayer service was held Tuesday evening at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Woods officiating.
Survivors include her daughter, Alice Ann Elliott of Boling; sons and daughters-in-Iaw, Antonio and Wanda Arriaga of Boling and Amadeo “Mike” and Shirley Arriaga of Boling; sisters, Rosie FIores and Eufemia Ochoa, both of Arlington; brothers, Juan and Manuel Ochoa, both of Arlington; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters, Sarah Alvarez and Natalia Ochoa; and by brothers, Robert and Alfredo Ochoa.
Pallbearers are Alex Becerra, Andy Reyes Jr., Thomas O’Neal, Edward Gonzales, Joe Torres III and Armando Bermudes.

Delores Kuykendall
Funeral services for Delores Marie Kuykendall, 64, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wharton Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witness with Elder Donald Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow in New Mount Olive Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today.
Mrs. Kuykendall died June 8, 2002, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston. She was born Aug. 15, 1937, in Wharton to Jesse and Aquilla Simmons Jackson Jr.
Survivors include husband, C.L. Kuykendall Sr. of Wharton; sons, Fredrick Kuykendall, Gregory Kuykendall, C.L. Kuykendall Jr. and Ivan Kuykendall, all of Wharton; daughters, Lynn Greer of Houston and Letitia Kuykendall of Wharton; brother, Melvin Hill of Wharton; sister, Maranda Hill of Wharton; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Canoy Randall
Funeral services for Canoy Scott Randall, 62, of Los Angeles, Calif., and formerly of Glen Flora, are pending at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home.
Mr. Randall died Monday in California.
Kristi Dieringer
Funeral services for Kristi Jo Dieringer, 32, of Yoakum, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Goodson officiating. Burial will follow in Shiner City Cemetery.
Miss Dieringer died Oct. 13, 2002. She was born July 20, 1970, in Yoakum to Allen and Darleen Byrnes Dieringer.
She worked as a field representative for the American Cancer Society. Miss Dieringer was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She was past president of the Golden Crescent Region Antique Automobile Club of America and was instrumental in coordinating the American Cancer Society Relay for Life events in her area.
Survivors include father, Allen Dieringer of Yoakum; mother, Darleen Byrnes Dieringer of Wharton; sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Alan Adamek of Yoakum; grandparents, John and Lorene Byrnes of Yoakum.

Wayne Moses
Wayne Lee Moses, 63, born Nov. 25, 1938 in Chaulk BIuff, passed away on Oct. 12, 2002, in Polly Ryon MemoriaI Hospital in Richmond. He was the manager of Tavener Community Gin in East Bernard.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Moses at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at First Baptist Church East Bernard, 619 Fitzgerald, East Bernard.

Frances Zbranek
Following cremation, a memorial funeral mass for Frances Louise Zbranek, 84, of East Bernard, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Rev. Dan Ruppert officiating.
Mrs. Zbranek died Oct. 10, 2002, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Wharton County to the late Frank and Julia Zahradnik Ptacek Sr.
She was a lifelong resident of Wharton County and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Mrs. Zbranek married Frank Zbranek on Sept. 26, 1937, in Wharton County and he preceded her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosie Zbranek; a brother, Frank Ptacek Jr.; and a step-brother, John Urban. Mrs. Zbranek worked with her husband on the family farm and later as a cook for the Smokehouse Restaurant until her retirement.
Survivors include son, Frank Paul Zbranek of East Bernard; sisters, Julia Bartos of East Bernard, Barbara Brenk of Angleton, Annie Maly of East Bernard and Mary Townsend of El Campo; step-sisters, Josephine Vacek of East Bernard and Sophie Scholz of Wharton; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

I.J. Irvin
Following cremation, memorial services for I.J. Irvin Jr., 83, of Glen Flora and former Wharton County Judge will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Mr. Irvin died December 12, 2002, at his residence.

B.D. King
Following cremation, memorial services for B.D. King Jr., 88, of Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Storey officiating.
Mr. King died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, in a Hillje nursing home after an extended illness. He was born March 16, 1914, in El Campo, the son of B.D. King Sr. and Winifred McTaggart King.
Mr. King was a lifelong resident of Wharton County and served as Wharton County Surveyor for 32 years until his retirement in 1992. He married Nadine West Wilson on Sept. 6, 1968, in Wharton. Mr. King was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wharton. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Ione Williams.
Survivors include wife, Nadine King of Wharton; sons, B. D. King III of San Antonio, Roger Barry King of Albuquerque, N.M., and Paul Randall King of Wharton; step-son, William E. Wilson of Canada; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to a church or charity of personal choice.

Laura Thomas
Funeral services for Laura Mae Thomas, 90, of Louise, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, at Rising Star Baptist Church in Louise with Rev. C. Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Thomaston Cemetery in Thomaston.
Mrs. Thomas died Dec. 10, 2002, at Spring Branch Medical Center. She was born Aug. 6, 1912, in Columbus to Shelly and Mary Wright Miller.
Survivors include sons, Hubert Thomas of Victoria, Lee Andrew Thomas of Wharton, Wayne Thomas of Houston, A.J. Thomas Jr. of Victoria, Edward Thomas and Edwin Thomas, both of Houston; daughters, Cora Jackson, Joyce Perkins, Elvera Flagg, Ruth Murray, all of Houston, and Betty Jo Flagg of Austin; 33 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren with a host of other relatives and friends.
