Thomas Strickland
Funeral services for Thomas Junior Strickland, 74, of Boling, were held Tuesday at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hurley officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Strickland died April 27, 2007, at his daughters’ residence following an extended illness. He was born on Oct. 9, 1932, in Bonifay, Fla., son of the late Jesse James Strickland and Emma Love Strickland.
He was a longtime resident of Florida, attending school there. On Nov. 28, 1969, he married Ms. Sharon Bearrick in Wharton. She preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 1997. Mr. Strickland worked as a truck driver, farm helper and was a retired welder.
Survivors include his daughters, Kay Strickland and husband, Gary Wooten, of Van Vleck, Juanita Nichols and husband Jerry of South Texas, sons; Ricky Strickland and Kyle Strickland, both of Port Lavaca; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandbaby on the way. Numerous brothers and sisters also survive.

Francisco Suaste
Francisco “Frank” Suaste, age 88, of Wharton, died Friday, April 27, 2007, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on Sept. 13, 1918, in Placedo, son of the late Benjamin Suaste and Mercedes Sepeda Suaste.
Mr. Suaste was a resident of Wharton County since 1931, having lived mostly in Boling and Wharton. While a teenager, Frank was a member of the Newgulf Texas Baseball League and played catcher. He graduated from Boling High School in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Army. While serving in the Army, Mr. Suaste received many honors including the EAME Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the American Defense Service Award. He married Santos Sanchez on Oct. 6, 1943, in Boling. Mr. Suaste was employed with Texas Gulf Sulfur Company for 13 years and worked in their loading dock division and later in the Maintenance Department for the Wharton Independent School District until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, Guadalupana Society, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post No. 87 and the Gulf Coast Medical Center Active Advantage.
Funeral mass services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2007. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. military graveside services and interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery under the Auspices of the Wharton American Legion Post No. 87. Rosary services were held Sunday evening at Wharton Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Santos Suaste of Wharton; children, Gloria Martinez and husband Felipe of Rosharon, Manuel Benjamin Suaste of Alexandria, Va., David Suaste and wife Barbara Jean of El Paso and Margarita Renee Suaste of Austin; sisters, Elena San Miguel of Houston, Elvira Postel of Houston, Manuela Arocha of Lubbock, Catarina Becerra of Boling and Mercedes Montelongo of White Sands, N.M.; brothers, Alejandro Blanco of Corpus Christi, Joe Blanco of Houston, Gilbert Blanco of Houston, John Blanco of Fort Worth and Victor Blanco of El Paso; grandchildren, Averie Michelle Suaste and Kisha Marie Suaste; great-grandchildren, Andrea Michelle Acuna, Gabriella Marie Villalobos, Ernesto Inez Villalobos Jr., Rocco Villalobos and Eduardo Villescas Jr.
Besides his parents, Mr. Suaste was preceded in death by a son, Abel Suaste, on Dec. 5, 1990; and brothers, Guadalupe Suaste and David Blanco.
Pallbearers were Alejandro Blanco, Isiderio Sanchez, Ben Torres, Genaro Torres, Jim Nickolyn and Charles Bollom.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Blanco, R.B. Caraway M.D., Leo Ramos and Frank
Solorzano.

Irene Ford
Funeral services for Irene Ford, 67, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. A.J. Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Bowden Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Pierce Boone Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ford died July 13, 2007 at Triumph Hospital in Houston. She was born Aug. 12, 1939, in Wharton to Gene and Elizabeth Aubrey Davis.
She was a homemaker and Baptist by faith.
Survivors include sons, Gerald, Michael Sr. and Wayne Ford, all of Wharton; step-sons, Gerald and Reginald Gordon, both of Houston; daughters, Billie Moore, Dixie Robinson, Kathy Aldridge, Carol Ray, Melanie Harris, Charlene Moore Earls and Sandra Ford, all of Wharton; step-daughters, Debra Gordon, Stephanie Womack, Tonya Gordon, Sonja Gordon and Cheryl Moore, all of Houston; 34 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Son, Walter Ford; husbands, Walter Ford Sr. and Frank Gordon Sr.; step-son, Frank Gordon Jr.; brothers, Clarence Holmes and Henry Davis; sister, Betty Davis; and her parents all preceded her in death.
Ethel Gavranovic
Ethel Gavranovic died Saturday, July 14, 2007 in Wharton at age 90 after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 1, 1917 in Floresville to Czech immigrants Adolph Heinrich and Annie Shimicek Heinrich. The family moved to El Campo when Ethel was an infant.
Her birth name was Stephanie Heinrich. A grade school teacher gave her the moniker “Ethel” as a child, which stuck with her the rest of her life. She married Frank Gavranovic in 1932. They lived briefly in Hungerford before moving to Burr outside of Wharton. The couple supported themselves on their family farm raising cotton and corn with their four sons. She was married for 45 years until her husband died in 1978. She was a widow the remainder of her life.
Mrs. Gavranovic was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and an 89-year resident of Wharton County. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; all her sisters, Mary Heinrich Bohuslav, Millie Heinrich Kutach, Annie Heinrich Kutach, Mollie Heinrich Zickhur and Elizabeth Heinrich McEntire Vacek; her brother, John Heinrich; and daughter-in-law, Fay Gavranovic.
She is survived by her four sons, James Gavranovic and wife Patricia, Frankie Gavranovic and wife Meta, Mainer Gavranovic and wife Rita and Willie Gavranovic and wife Gladys, all of Wharton; 12 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 17 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Rosary services were recited Monday evening at Wharton Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 17, with Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating. Burial followed at Wharton City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Daniel Gavranovic, Mainer Gavranovic Jr., William Gavranovic Jr., Leon Kutach, Robert McEntire and Kirk Ware.
Honorary pallbearers were Kyle Bone, James Gavranovic Jr., Marty Gavranovic, Tim Parma, Troy Taormina and Ryan Weaver.

Charles Jetel
Charles Anthony Jetel, age 90, of Wharton, died Saturday, July 14, 2007. He was born on July 22, 1916 in Yoakum the son of the late Otto Jetel and Albina Jetel Thatcher.
He was a longtime resident of Houston and had lived in Wharton for the past 16 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the World War II. Mr. Jetel later worked for the Veteran’s Administration. He enjoyed traveling and photography. Mr. Jetel was preceded in death by a son, Frank Richard Jetel; two brothers, Roy “Babe” Jetel and James Jetel; and two sisters, Bertha Jetel and Vivian Herigodt.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, July 19, 2007 at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas with Mickey Reynolds officiating.
Survivors include his daughter, Selma Luco and husband, Ron, of Wharton; son, Charles Jetel and wife, Kimberly, of Ellington, Mo.; grandchildren, Charles Jetann and wife, Jodie, Amy Wright and husband, Jay, Christopher Luco and wife, Kelly, and Benjamin Aaron Luco; and great-grandchildren Kimberly Luco, Raven Wright and Easton Wright; sisters, Alene Maynard, Sally Crecini and Donna Neidenbach.

Maurice Boyd
Funeral services for Maurice Boyd, 53, of Houston, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Houston National Cemetery. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Boyd died Aug. 9, 2007 at Oak Bend Medical Center in Richmond. He was born Jan. 2, 1954 in Wharton to Clinton and Ruby Jefferson Boyd.
Survivors include brother, Roy Jefferson of Hungerford.

James Bryant
Funeral services for James Bryant, age 47, of Birmingham, Ala., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday Aug. 18, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Wharton. Burial will follow in Bowden Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Bryant died Aug. 7, 2007 at a local hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1960 in Wharton to Otis and Rosie Reddrick Bryant.
Surviving are mother, Rosie Bryant of Wharton; wife, Andrea Bryant of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter, Stacy Crawford of Birmingham, Ala.; brothers, Alfred Bryant of Wharton, Joe Louis Bryant of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Minnie Wolridge of Pearland, Bessie Mae Ashford of Wharton and Bettie Jean Hicks of Houston; one grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Troy Clark

Mr. Clark died Aug. 11, 2007 at Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy. He was born Feb. 9, 1962 in Wharton to Anthony Eugene and La Verna Clark Branch.
Surviving are his father, Anthony Eugene Branch of Houston; mother, La Verna Long of Wharton; wife, Angela Marie Dillard Clark of Katy; sons, Troy Davenport of Orange, Anthony Moshay of Houston; daughters, Shon Moshay of Houston, Trineka Davenport of Sealy, Monique Moshay of Houston, Tamika Dillard of St. Louis, Tiffany Williams of El Campo, Kristina King of St. Louis and Tiffany Dillard of Houston; brother, Harry Temple of Wharton; and two grandchildren.

Reyes Garcia Jr.
A memorial service for Reyes “Peanut” Garcia Jr., 63, of Dallas was held Saturday, Aug. 11, in Dallas at Gonzalez Funeral Home with Jose Estrada Tijerina officiating.
Mr. Garcia died Aug. 8, 2007 at Baylor Hospital following an extended illness. He was bom in Boling, the son of the late Reyes Sr. and Hortencia Garcia.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Piedad and George Ramirez and Betty Garcia; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Laura Garcia and Joe and Maria Perez; sisters, Anna Marie Olivo, Minerva Salinas, Mary Lou Love, Emma Garcia and Eva Sanchez; brothers, Roy Garcia and David Lee Garcia; grandchildren are: Robert, Juan, Eivind, Star, Michael, Angel, Alexa and Abigail.
Lois Johnson
Memorial services for Lois Johnson, 68, of East Bernard, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18,, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wallis with Rev. Ray Spitzenberger officiating.
Born in Columbus, Neb., Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of William and Edna Koch Janssen. She was reared in Nebraska and attended school in Nebraska. On Jan. 5, 1963, the former Lois Janssen was joined in marriage to Donald Johnson with a ceremony held in San Antonio. She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone. Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Telephone Pioneers. She loved to travel. Mrs. Johnson died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 in Eagle Lake.
She is survived by her husband, Don Johnson of East Bernard; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie and Larry Davidson of Lissie and Carol Wright of Lake Jackson; grandchildren, Thaddius Davidson, Kacie Davidson and Bobby Wright.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna Janssen; and sister, Sally Rogers.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels in Wallis.
Angeline Klekar
A Funeral Mass for Angeline F. Klekar, 88, of East Bernard, will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, Aug. 17, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in East Bernard. Rev. Don Ruppert will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard.
Mrs. Klelar was born Feb. 14, 1919 in East Bernard to Louis and Lydia Sliva Jochec. She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard and was a member of the Catholic Daughters, K.J.Z.T. and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Klekar passed away Aug. 11, 2007 in Wharton.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Pete Klekar; her parents, Louis V. and Lydia Jochec; and siblings, Louis Jochec Jr., MaryAnn Jochec, Sylvester Jochec and August Jochec Sr.
Mrs. Klekar is survived by her brothers and sister, Richard B. Jochec and his wife, Mary, Julius Jochec and his wife, Christine, Clem Jochec and his wife, Ruth, and Wilhelmina Muniza and her husband, Raymond; and her sister-in-law, Agnes Jochec; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Muniza, Cletus Jochec, Mark Jochec, Tim Jochec, Larry Jochec and Eddie Srubar.
Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.
