Dorothy Watson

Funeral arrangements for Dorothy Watson, 88, of Grapeland are pending at Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.

Mrs. Watson died Sunday.

Mrs. Frank Dent

Services for Mrs. Frank (Mary Grace) Dent, 92, of Fairfield will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield with Dr. Asbury Lenox of Baytown officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mrs. Dent died Saturday morning at the Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana.

She was born Aug. 6, 1908 in Fairfield to William Lloyd Lott and Grace Davis Lott.
Mrs. Dent was a teacher and taught in Houston and Dallas. She was a member of the Junior League in Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Frank Dent, in 1984.

Mrs. Dent is survived by a son, Frank Lloyd Dent of New York City.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Dent, Doris Mabry, Dr. John H. Keller Jr., William V. Nash, Clifton E. Childs Jr. and Dr. Norris Houghton.

Condolence calls will be received Tuesday at Mrs. Dent’s residence in Fairfield, (903) 389-3671.

Ted Hopkins Jr.

Services for Ted Hopkins Jr., 49, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. Robert Besser officiating. Burial will follow at Kilgore Cemetery.
Mr. Hopkins died Monday in Normangee.
He was born July 30, 1952, in Shawnee, Okla.
Mr. Hopkins was an oil field tool specialist and a United States Navy veteran. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Heilgers Fisher; and brother, Sonny Clifton.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by his father and stepmother, Ted and Wanda Hopkins of Kilgore; daughter, Heidi Hopkins of Hobbs, N.M.; siblings, Michelle Burnett, Bobbie Ann Crow and Roger “Skipper” Hopkins, all of Tampa, Fla., Sharon Newberry of Wichita, Kan., Janet Malone of  White Oak and Billie Goodrum of Arp; and one grandson.

Mavis Poole

Services for Mavis Poole, 84, of Jacksonville, was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Cemetery with the Rev. Peggy Edge officiating. Burial followed at Resthaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Poole died Friday at a  Whitehouse nursing home.
She was born Aug. 3, 1917, in Palestine.
Mrs. Poole was retired. She was the first cosmetology teacher at Jacksonville High School. She was a past president of the Business Professional Women’s Association and a member of the Association of  Texas Professional Educators. She was a member of First Christian Church of Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Lee Poole; brother, Mabran Bernard; and one great-grandson.
Mrs. Poole is survived by son, Ben Poole of  Whitehouse; daughters, Charolett Calhoun of Jacksonville and Margarette Poole of Houston; sister, Virginia Grimsley of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Jenssen Clark Brown

Services for infant Jenssen Clark “J.C.” Brown will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with Dr. Barry Roberts officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
The infant died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.
The infant was born Tuesday in Dallas to Robert and Anna Rodriguez Brown.
The infant is survived by his parents; and grandparents, Tommy and Patsy Brown of Palestine; and C.X. and Mollie Rodriguez of Palestine.
Pallbearers will be Chris Rodriguez, C.X. Rodriguez, Mike Till and Tommy Brown.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Melvin “Junior” Miller

Funeral arrangements for Melvin “Junior” Miller, 57, of Montalba, are pending at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mr. Miller died Monday at his residence.

Thelma Blaser

Services for Thelma Blaser, 81, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Percilla.
Mrs. Blaser died Saturday at her residence.
She was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Percilla to Andrew Kenneth and Mollie  Jones Brumley Dickey.
Mrs. Blaser was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was a nurse and was employed with Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fads Blocker Blaser, in 1989; sister, Zuellia Sue Dickey; brothers, Alvin Dickey, Melvin Dickey, Marvin Dickey, Aurbin Dickey and Robert Dickey.
Mrs. Blaser is survived by daughter, Kathleen Boykin of Palestine; son, Eads Blocker Blaser Jr. of Palestine; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mike Blaser, Doug Blaser, Jody Boykin, Aurbin Dickey, Bobby Dickey and Eric Blaser.
Condolence calls will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Rev. Jim Nedbalek

Services for the Rev. Jim Nedbalek, 64, of Oakwood, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Baptist Church of Oakwood with the Revs. Jack Smith, Doug Stevens, Wayne McNeill and Keith Petteway officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Rev. Nedbalek died Sunday at his residence.

He was born March 2, 1937, in Wheelock to Emil and Artie Pruett Nedbalek.

Rev. Nedbalek was pastor of Memorial Baptist Church of Oakwood for 14 years. He graduated from Franklin High School and received his B.S. degree from  Texas A&M University and his M.S. degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. He was retired from the Windham School District.

He was the former pastor of Easterly Baptist Church, Harmony Baptist Church and Keechi Baptist Church.

Rev. Nedbalek was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife, Nelda Nedbalek of Oakwood; mother, Artie Nedbalek of Wheelock; daughter, Vicki Stevens of Palestine; son, Phil Nedbalek of Oakwood; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark Buchanan, Kevin Buchanan, Barry Olive, John Minter, Ronnie P. Durham, Mark Coates, Benny Boykin and Randy Minter.

Honorary pallbearers will be men of Memorial Baptist Church, Son Coates, Lee Bing, J.W. Thompson, Carrol Buchanan, Norman Cobb and Henry Blazek III.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Viola “Roxie” Nichols

Services for Viola “Roxie” Nichols, 80, of Crockett, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Callaway-Alee Memorial Chapel in Crockett with the Revs. David  Taylor and L.K. Lawley officiating. Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Nichols died Saturday at East  Texas Medical Center in Crockett.

She was born July 3, 1921, in Leon County to Newt Boykin and Viola Boykin Roberson.
Mrs. Nichols was a lifelong resident of Crockett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.

She was preceded in death by brother, James Boykin.

Mrs. Nichols is survived by her husband, Howard Nichols of Crockett; children, Sylvia Cannon, Peggy Nichols and Brenda Murray, all of Crockett, Charles Nichols of Channelview and Ruth Mims of Jacksonville; half-brother, Ray Roberson of Dallas; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Richard Starr

Services for Richard Starr, 61, of Jacksonville, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with the Revs. Roy Prater, Bob Huddleston and Phillip Warren officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

Mr. Starr died Sunday at his residence.
He is survived locally by a brother, Robert Starr of Tennessee Colony.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Jacksonville.

Funeral arrangements for Thelma Blaser, 81, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blaser died Saturday night at her residence.

Jimmy Alford

Funeral arrangements for Jimmy Alford, 61, of Fort Worth and formerly of Fairfield, are pending at Emanuel Funeral Home of Palestine.

Mr. Alford died early this morning at John Peters Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Thelma Mitchell

Funeral arrangements for Thelma Mitchell, 87, of Palestine and formerly of Corsicana, are pending at Emanuel Funeral Home of Palestine.

Mrs. Mitchell died Sunday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Addie Curry

Services for Addie Curry, 87, of Elkhart, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Spring Cemetery.
Mrs. Curry died Saturday at Spring Seasons in Elkhart.
She was born Feb. 24, 1914 in Anderson County to Alvy and Nannie Lee Helm Pierson.
Mrs. Curry was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Elkhart. She worked for many years as a clerk for Fuller’s Grocery in Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie A. “W.A.” Curry; sisters, Gladys Axum and Lillian Elmore; and three brothers, Shelby Pierson, Lina Pierson and Calvin Pierson.
Mrs. Curry is survived by daughters, Lorene Dempsey and Lou Anna Reynaud, both of Elkhart; sisters; Mary Parker and Irma Duitch, both of Elkhart; brothers, Charles Pierson of Grapeland, Wayne Pierson of Elkhart and Carroll Pierson of McKinney; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be L.B. Pierson, Doris Pierson, Larry Pierson, Carl Curry, Larry Parker and Windell Pierson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Danner and Joe Seckler.
Condolence calls will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Virginia “Ginny” Bomer

Services for Ginny Bomer will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the Bois ‘D’ Arc Baptist Church in Bois ‘D’ Arc,  Texas with the Reverend Dr. Dan Allen of South Jacksonville, Fla. Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow Wednesday in the  Texas State Cemetery in Austin with a graveside memorial at 1:30 p.m.
Mrs. Bomer died Dec. 1 at Palestine Regional Medical Center. She was born in Houston to Rudolph and Ethel Roco who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bomer worked as a model for Nieman Marcus in Houston. Following her modeling career she worked as an office administrator for a large Houston-based insurance company. Growing up in Houston, she attended Reagan High School where she was drum major for the school’s Redcoat Band. As a teen she performed as a soloist for the Jimmy Dorsey Band.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Elton Bomer of Montalba, a son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Michele Bomer of Athens; a daughter and son-in-law, Elayne and Glenn Rust of Houston; grandchildren, Caitlin Bomer of Athens and Adam and Chase Rust of Houston.
Active pallbearers will be Bascom W. Bentley, Joe Crutcher, Larry Mayo, Gene Reynolds, Billie Schick, Bob Howell, Don Bullock and Charles Elliott.

Honorary pallbearers will be Olin B. Lane Jr., Bettye Young, Nancy Mayo, Sherryll Crutcher and Shirley Bullock.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Memorials , if desired, may be made to Cartmell Home for the Aged, 2212 W. Reagan St., Palestine,  Texas 75801.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

James “Jim” Matthews

Services for James “Jim” Matthews, 73, of Grapeland, was scheduled at 3 p.m. today at Garden of Memories Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Pelt officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mr. Matthews died Sunday morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 26, 1928 in Anderson County to Isrel Zeb and Emma Bagwell Matthews.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by grandson, Eddie Matthews Jr.

He was a Baptist and a truck driver.
Mr. Matthews is survived by son, Eddie Matthews of Pearland; a sister, Mildred Dancer of Elkhart; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
