Charles McGuire
Charles A. McGuire Jr., age 85, of Wharton, died Monday, June 27, 2005, in a Wharton hospital. He was born in Bay City on April 21, 1920, the son of the late Charles Appleby McGuire Sr. and Lillian Stradinger McGuire.
Mr. McGuire was a graduate of Boling High School and later received his degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University. He was a 23-year resident of Wharton and was a former resident of Newgulf and Beaumont. Mr McGuire was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He married Genevieve Matula on May 19, 1951, in Wharton. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2004. Mr. McGuire was a 30-year employee of Texas Gulf Sulphur having worked the majority of his tenure in Beaumont. He worked as a petroleum engineer for Texas Gulf until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Wharton Country Club and a former member of the Men’s Golf Association.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m.Thursday, June 30, 2005, at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church with the Rev. Lance Ousley officiating. Interment will follow in the Wharton City Cemetery. Friends may call for visitation today, Wednesday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home.
Survivors include his daughters, Patty Shannon and husband, Paul, of Wharton and Debbie McGuire of Stafford; son, Charles A. McGuire III and wife, Rebecca, of La Porte; sister, Dorothy Lawrence and husband, Bill, of Tyler; grandchildren, Chase McGuire, Jennifer Garner and husband, Ryan, and Preston Shannon; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Besides his parents and wife, Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Stradinger.

Charles Peebles
A memorial mass for Charles Thomas Peebles, 76, of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, was held Saturday at Immaculate Competion Church with Msgr. Charles King officiating. A rosary was said Friday at DeBerry Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Peebles died June 22, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton. He was born March 8, 1929, in Boling to Charles Thomas Peebles and Claudia Bell Thomas Peebles.
He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1951. Mr. Peebles served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He traveled widely as a petroleum engineer and met his wife, Martha Ruth Moreno, in Ecuador. They married Dec. 6, 1976, in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. He continued to travel, always with his family with him. After his retirement in 1992, he settled in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where he will return.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Ruth Peebles of Santa Cruz, Bolivia; daughter, Carla Peebles; son, Francisco and wife Andrea Peebles; sisters, Juanita Peebles, Gloria and husband Dwayne King, Dorita and husband Guillermo Kenning, Gloria Moreno, Gloria and husband Bob Vondran, Luz Marina Moreno, Blanca Sonia and husband Ivo Vranjican, Carmen Moreno and Mery Moreno; brothers, Clarence and wife, Sunni Paige, Luis Rene Moreno, Oscar and wife, Christina Moreno, Hugo and wife ,Josephina Moreno, German and wife, Maite Moreno; and numerous nephew and nieces.
Mildred Appling
Funeral services for Mildred Lou Appling, 77, of El Campo, were held Thursday at First Baptist Church of El Campo with Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating. Burial followed in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Mrs. Appling died June 20, 2005. She was born Sept. 14, 1927, in Hahn community to the late Charles L. and Lena Henderson Glaze.
She was employed at South Texas Medical Clinics in Wharton. Mrs. Appling was a member First Baptist Church in El Campo.
Survivors include daughter, Debbie Marshall of Richmond; son, Gary Appling of El Campo; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Weldon Appling; and brother, Babe Glaze.

Glen Boyd
Funeral services for Glen Eyrie Boyd, 98, of Houston and a former Wharton resident, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Saturday, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Wharton. Burial will follow in the Wharton City Cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd died June 23, 2005, at her home in Houston.

Manuel Padia
Manuel Padia, 84, of Wharton, died June 22, 2005, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was born Dec. 27, 1920, in Hungerford, to the late Pedro and Josephine Gonzales Padia.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton and a lifelong resident of Wharton.
Survivors include sons and a daughter-in-law, Roy and Elva Padia of San Antonio and Manual Padia Jr. of Wharton; sister, Susie Valdez of Pasadena; brothers, Tom Padia of Wharton, Ramon Padia of Galveston and Pete Padia of Rosenberg; six grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sofia Padia; daughter, Mary Ann Pena; sisters, Janie Quintana and Mary Cisneros; brothers, Joe and Larry Padia; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2005, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Interment Followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
Pallbearers were David Pena, Daniel Pena Jr., James Torres, James Byron Bagwell, Pete Padia Jr. and Robert Padia.
Arrangements were with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.
Susie Rodriguez
Susie Tristan Rodriguez, age 58, of Wharton, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, in a Wharton hospital. She was born on Nov. 24, 1946, in Ganado, the daughter of Francisco and Jesusa Coronado Tristan.
Mrs. Rodriguez was a former longtime resident of Wharton and a former resident of El Campo and Dallas. She worked as a homemaker and was Protestant by faith.
A prayer service will be held today, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at 7 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Pastor Santos Garza officiating and Joe Tijerina assisting. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
Survivors include her husband, Victor J. Rodriguez of Wharton; daughter, Hellen Tijerina and husband, Joe, of Wharton; son, Victor James Rodriguez of Wharton; and sister, Rita Pena of Cuero. She was preceded in death by a brother, Juan Tristan.
Pallbearers include Charles Garcia, Johnny Chavez, Lee De La Rosa, Joe Reyes Jr., Jesse Chavez and Victor James Rodriguez.
If desiring, memorials may be sent to a charity of personal choice.

Ava Thiele
Ava Gartrell Thiele, age 92, of Richmond and formerly of Wharton, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, in Richmond following an extended illness. She was born on May 9, 1913, in Glen Flora, the daughter of the late S.O. Gartrell and Zelma Frazier Gartrell.
Following the death of her father, due to a farming accident, Ava’s mother remarried William Breeden and the family moved to Smithville. Ava was a 1931 graduate of Smithville High School. She later met and married Delbert Thiele on May 8, 1937 in Wharton. Mr. Thiele preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1991. Mrs. Thiele worked as a saleslady for Hub Dry Goods and most recently Sol’s Men’s Wear until her retirement in 1974. She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wharton.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Debbie Cenko officiating. Interment followed in Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Dr. James Thiele and wife, Betty, of Fulshear; sister, Willie Mae Hill of Lufkin; brother, William Breeden Jr. of Smithville; grandchildren, Rene Lyn Marsh and husband, Andy, of Richmond and Jane Elizabeth Thiele of College Station; great-grandchild, Madison Marsh. Besides her parents and step-father, she was preceded in death by brothers, Samuel Oscar Gartrell and Eddie Breeden and sister, Ginny Parrott.
Pallbearers were Bobby Kleas, George Brady, James Baker, Ray Sheppard, Russell Cenko and Robert Hausler.
Honorary pallbearers were Archie Pittman, Verlie Sherrill, Alton Mitchell, Dr. Gerald McKinney and Lloyd Rust.

Dennis Fishar
A memorial mass for Dennis Lee Fishar, 53, of East Bernard, were held Saturday, Sept. 3, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial in the VA Memorial Cemetery is pending.
Mr. Fishar died Sept. 1, 2005, at the VA Hospital after a long bout with cancer. He was born Dec. 25, 1951, in East Bernard, to Charles and Alice Chupek Fishar Sr.
He attended Holy Cross Catholic School in East Bernard and East Bernard Independent School District schools. Mr. Fishar served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1975, which included 13 months in Vietnam. He had been employed at East Bernard Milling Company for the past 24 years.
Survivors include mother, Alice Fishar, in a Richmond nursing home; brothers and sister-in-law, Frank and Charlene Fishar of Hallettsville and Jerome and Anthony Fishar, both of East Bernard; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Sonny Harris of Richmond and Ann and Gerry Shuman of Houston; half-brothers and half-sisters-in-law, Louis and Alice Fishar of Yuma, Ariz., Charles and Shirley Fishar Jr. of East Bernard and Joe and Betty Fishar of Georgetown; brother-in-law, R.L. “Tiny” Gaston of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alice Fishar
Funeral services for Alice Fishar, 87, of East Bernard, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Don Ruppert officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard.
Mrs. Fishar died Jan. 16, 2006, in Sugar Land. She was born June 8, 1918, in Clara, to John and Frances Ryza Chupik. Mrs. Fishar attended school in Granite, Okla. She spent the past eight and one-half years as a resident of Kateland Square Geriatric Center in Richmond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fishar; parents, John and Frances Chupik; infant daughter, Frances Fishar; sons, John and Dennis Fishar; step-daughter, Margaret Gaston; daughter-in-law, Nell Fishar; infant grandson, Bruce Fishar and great-granddaughter, Sara Krauss.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Harris and her husband, Sonny, of Richmond and Ann Shuman and her husband, Gerry, of Houston; sons, Frank Fishar and his wife, Charlene, of Hallettsville, Jerome Fishar of East Bernard, Anthony Fishar of East Bernard; step-sons, Louis Fishar and his wife, Alice, of Yuma, Ariz., Charles Fishar and his wife, Shirley, of East Bernard, Joe Fishar and his wife, Betty, of Georgetown; son-in-law, R.L. “Tiny” Gaston of Richmond; 19 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild;

Daisy Mejia
Memorial services for Daisy Ann Mejia, 32, of Victoria and formerly of East Bernard, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Crossroad Assembly of God Church at 301 Wallace in East Bernard.
Mrs. Mejia died Dec. 22, 2005. She was born June 3, 1973, in Houston to John and Anita Lane Figirova.
Survivors include mother and father; daughter, Kaitlyn M. Martinez of Victoria; son, Johnathan S. Martinez of Victoria; brothers, Victor Lloyd Harms of Victoria and Fletcher Jackson of Grand Prairie; grandparents, Sam Lane of Victoria, Val Munoz and Nathalie Figirova of East Bernard, Rufus Figirova and Petra Rivera of LaWard.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Romona Lane; and twin sister, Daisy May Mejia.
Memorials are being made to her children.
Jimmy Warner
Jimmy Louis Warner Sr., 78, of Wharton, went to be with his Lord on Jan. 19, 2006. He was born on May 24, 1927, in Cabot, Ark., son of the late Harold Warner and Hellen White Warner.
Mr. Warner was a former resident of Cabot, Ark., and Harlingen before moving to Wharton in 1952. He married Winnie Julia Prazak on Nov. 19, 1955 in Wharton. Mr. Warner was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed for 53 years in the oil and gas industry, the last 25 years as an independent petroleum consultant.
Following cremation, memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Don A. Storey Sr. officiating. Private family graveside services will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Winnie Julia Prazak Warner of Wharton, daughter, Carol Fryar of The Woodlands; sons, John Warner of Sugar Land, Herbert Warner of Arlington and Jimmy Warner Jr. of Wharton; sister, Marie Millonzi of Buffalo, N.Y.; grandchildren, Samantha Miner and husband, Mark of Spring, John Fox Jr. of Montgomery, Seth Warner and wife, Tammy, of Sugar Land and Dr. Yvonne Warner Bryce and husband, Mike, of Webster; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Green, and brother, Eugene Warner.

Bonnie Zernack
Bonnie May Zernack went to her eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, amongst her friends, great-niece Kem Ford and the loving caregivers at Hearthstone Assisted Living in Wharton, where she had resided since August of 2005.
Mrs. Zernack was born at home between Boling and Newgulf to John and Ethel Fechtner on Feb. 13, 1924. She married 1st Lt. James G. Ater in 1942 and left Texas with her husband and three sons in 1956. She lived and worked in Colorado, California and Idaho before returning to her beloved Texas in the early 1970s.
She married Clarence Zernack and lived with him until his death in Angleton, finally returning to Boling to be near her loving sister, Johnnie Dee Mullins.
There she remained in “Aunt Bonnie’s Cottage” that had been restored for her use on the Mullins’ ranch by her loving nieces, Carol Mullins Rolf and Margaret Ann Mullins Willrich and their families.
She remained there amongst her loving nieces and nephews, under the care of Gus and Irene Mullins until August of 2005 when her health required her to go to Hearthstone in Wharton.
Passing before her were her husbands, James G. Ater and Clarence Zernack; her eldest son, Robert K. Ater of Maryland; parents, John and Ethel Fechter; her brother, Robert Fechtner; her two sisters, Noma Lee and Johnnie Dee; mother-in-law, Eleanor Jane Sterling Ater; and her nieces, Carol Mullins Rolf and Margaret Ann Mullins Willrich, and Judy Carlton; and her nephew, John Michael Carlton.
Surviving are her two sons and their families: Gail S. Ater, his former wife Victoria Roper and their daughter Ellie Roper-Ater; Gail’s daughter Ashley Kranov and husband Yanko and their children Henry Apgar-Ater and Alexander Kranov; Derrick and Tisa Ater of Asotin, Wash., and their children Deidre and Austen; her daughter-in-law, widow of Robert Ater, Robin Ater, and their two children, Shelley and James, also survive in Maryland.
Mrs. Zernak leaves behind, her loving nephew and his wife, Gus and Irene Mullins of Boling; her niece, Dian Mullins-Floyd and husband Michael Floyd of Tyler; nephews, Dick Mullins and his wife, Deon, of Houston; and nephews by marriage, Alvin Rolf and George Willrich of Boling; 16 very special great-nieces and great-nephews and 24 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. They will all miss “Aunt Bonnie.”
By her request, there will be no formal memorial service. She asked that you celebrate her life by living yours to the fullest each and every day. “If you’re going to have a cookie – Have a Cookie!”
