Ewell Campbell
Ewell Lee “Bud” Campbell, age 75, of Boling died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, in a Sugar Land hospital following an extended illness. He was born on Feb. 24, 1929, in Smackover, Ark., the son of the late Charles Cecil Campbell and Lena Belle King Campbell.
Mr. Campbell had been a resident of Boling since 1982 and was a former longtime resident of Newgulf. He married Frances Gatling on March 12, 1953, in Sparkman, Ark. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as an assistant maintenance foreman with Texasgulf Sulphur for 35 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wharton.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today, Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Mack Mathis officiating. Burial follows in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Campbell of Boling; son, Alan Lee Campbell of Houston; sister, Sue Skinner of Fort Worth; brothers, Charles E. Campbell of Newellton, La., and James A. Campbell of Houston; nieces, Blair and Bonnie Campbell and nephews, Brad and Blake Campbell. His life was blessed with an honorary son, Royce Sheek and daughter, Patricia “Patty” Stout.
Pallbearers are Ernest Chudalla, Bob Fulton, Alec Mayfield, Royce Sheek, Arch Stout and Roy Wagner.

Frances Campbell
Frances Gatling Campbell, age 80, of Boling, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 20, 1926, in Dallas County, Ark., the daughter of the late Richard Gatling and Geneva Green Gatling.
Mrs. Campbell was reared in Sparkman, Ark. She graduated from Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Ark. Mrs. Campbell married Ewell Lee “Bud” Campbell on March 12, 1953 in Sparkman, Ark., And moved to Newgulf, where she and Bud adopted a son, Alan Campbell. She taught school for 35 years, serving two years in Strong, Ark., one year in Needville and 32 years at Newgulf Elementary School.
She was a devoted wife and mother. Her passions have always been her family, friends, cooking, her plants and helping others. In her last years she cherished and enjoyed the visits with her many friends. She was an active member of the Wharton Garden Club, The Retired Teachers Association and was a member of Iago Federated Church.
Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Ollie Southall officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
Survivors include her son, Alan Campbell of Arkansas; first cousins and spouses, Dr. William Robert and Carolyn Green, George and Virginia Kay Green, Dorothy and Waymond Pearson, Tommy and Liz Green, all of Arkansas, Greg Green and JoEllen Green of Texas, Howard and Emma Wilson of Alabama and Patsy and Doug Sproat of Mississippi. Additional relatives in Arkansas include, Anne Wiley, Elva Jo Wiley, Maime Ann Williams, Stanley Harrison, Exie Shaw, Harold Gatling, McElvie Gatling, Marion Gatling and her dear friend Helen Lemons Green.
Her extended family includes neighbors Royce and Johanna Sheek and family and Arch and Patricia Stout and family.
Pallbearers will be Royce Sheek, Daniel Lopez, Paul Vela, Arch Stout, Jimmy Folmar and Larry Hill.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Alec Mayfield, Billy Watkins, Ernest Chudalla, Bob Fulton, Glenn Brothers and Roy Wagoner.
In lieu of flowers Frances requested donations to the Iago Federated Church, P.O. 576, Boling, TX 77420; or Texas Baptist Children’s Home, 1101 North Mays, Round Rock, TX 78644.
Mrs. Campbell will be dearly missed by many and the cherished memories of her will remain with us always.

Gustie Holmes
A Funeral Mass for Gustie Fillip Holmes, 80, of Hungerford, was held Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rachunek officiating. Burial followed in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford. A Rosary was recited Thursday St. John's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Holmes died June 26, 2007, at her residence following a sudden illness. She was born on Oct. 7, 1926, in East Bernard, the daughter of the late Alois Julius Fillip and Mary Ann Vasek Fillip.
She was a lifelong resident of Hungerford and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She married Robert “Bob” Holmes on Feb. 7, 1949, in Houston and he preceded her in death on May 19, 1983. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee Holmes on March 18, 1982; a sister, Mary Filip Bubela; and a brother, Joe Filip. She was a member of the Altar Society at St. John’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Theresa and Jerry Fojtik and Mona Holmes, all of Hungerford, and Christine Holmes of Houston; sister, Vlasta Fillip Horelica of Hungerford; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dinah Roberts
Funeral services for Dinah Faye Roberts, 56, of El Campo, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, at First Baptist Church of El Campo. Burial will follow in El Campo Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Roberts died June 26, 2007, at El Campo Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 1, 1950 in El Campo to Nathan Callies and Jessie Mae Foley.
She worked as a health care provider.
Survivors include husband, Freddie Roberts; parents; daughters and son-in-law, Jessica and Troy Hearse and Janette Rice; son, Nathaniel Roberts; siblings, Rosetta Anderson, Bishop James Callies of Fort Worth, Leon Callies of Wharton, Nathaniel Callies of St. Louis, Mo., and Dwight Callies of Victoria; and nine grandchildren.

John Thompson
Funeral services for John Cleburn Thompson, 80, of Boling, were held Friday at Wharton Funeral Home. Burial was under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge No. 621 at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson died June 28, 2007, at a Wharton nursing home. He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Streetman, son of the late William Cleburn Thompson and Mary Belle Oliver Thompson.
He was born and reared in the Streetman area and attended school there. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On June 16, 1947, he married Helen Rash in Navidad County. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 621, where he served as a past Master. Mr. Thompson was a resident of Boling and worked at Texas Gulf Sulfur until his retirement in 1988. Following retirement, he went into business with his wife and started Thompson Gaging. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his sister, Lora Belle Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Thompson of Boling; daughter, Beverly Burns of Wharton; sister, Mary Francis Bryant of Streetman; brothers; Eldon Thompson of San Diego and Billy Jack Thompson of Houston; one grandson and a great-granddaughter.
James Mebane
Funeral services for James O. “Jim” Mebane, 57, of Belton, were held Aug. 7 at Dossman Chapel in Belton. Burial followed in North Belton Cemetery.
Mr. Mebane died Aug. 5, 2004, in a Temple hospital. He was born April 29, 1947, in Temple to James C. and Betty Hilda Mebane.
He worked for the Corps of Engineers for 32 years as a construction inspector.
Survivors include wife, Ginger Shiller Mebane; daughter, Kimberly Hodge of Wharton; son, Dale Mebane of Maffat; brother, Richard Mebane of Belton; sister, Karen Rhoades of Belton; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bud Campbell
Funeral services for Ewell L. “Bud” Campbell, of Boling, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mr. Campbell died Sept. 17, 2004.
Creola Edwards
Funeral services for Creola LaRose Edwards, 85, of Houston, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sand Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. A.C. Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Edwards died Sept. 15, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Houston. She was born Sept. 13, 1919, in Wharton to George and Mattie Bluntson Hawkins.
She worked as a cook and was Baptist by faith.
Survivors include her husband, David of Houston; daughter, Mattie Brown Matthews of Egypt; sister, Eunice Williams of Eagle Lake, brothers, Odell Lott of Altair and Roosevelt Hearn of Eagle Lake; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Edna Klein
Funeral services for Edna Ella Mikus Klein, 90, of Victoria and formerly of Wharton, were held Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Celestino Say officiating. Burial followed in Resurrection Cemetery.
Mrs. Klein died Sept. 9, 2004. She was born Feb. 23, 1914, in Yoakum.
She was a teacher for VISD from 1953 to 1979 serving all together for 41 years throughout Texas. Mrs. Klein was member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Altar Society and Retired Teacher Association.
Survivors include, her husband of 59 years, Willie Jim Klein of Victoria; daughter, Linda Bollman and husband C.H. of Nursery; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Hajek Mikus; sister, Hattie Chilek; brothers, Robert Mikus and Dr. F.F. Mikus.

Thomas Mills
Funeral services for Thomas Alon Mills, 69, of Houston, will be held at 1 p.m. tSaturday, at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Mills died Sept. 15, 2004, in Houston following an extended illness. He was born on June 10, 1935, in Refugio, the son of the late Will Tom Mills and Minnie Ola Price Mills.
He graduated from Wharton High School in 1953 and graduated from Wharton County Junior College. Mr. Mills married Nettie Helfer on Dec. 31, 1955, in Wharton. He was a longtime resident of Houston and worked for the U.S. Postal Service prior to retiring in 1994. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 151.
Survivors include his wife, Nettie Mills of Houston; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl Lee and Joe Keyworth of Pearland and Joanna and Rex Baldwin of Pearland; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Ray and Darla Mills of Spring; sister, Jean Ann Wilkins of Alvin; and seven grandchildren.

David Barnes
Funeral services for David Lafayette Barnes Jr., 56, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bible Truth Apostolic Church with Rev. Don Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in El Campo Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Barnes died Sept. 10, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born Oct. 9, 1947, in El Campo to David Lafayette and Estella Webb Barnes Sr.
Survivors include wife, Rosie M. Shorter Shelton of Wharton; brother, Alfred Barnes of El Campo; sisters, Eloise Barnes, Connie Barnes and Pearlie Barnes, all of El Campo.

Perry Schumacher
Memorial services for Perry William Schumacher, 73, of Glen Flora, were held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, at Dobie Funeral Home in Mathis.
Mr. Schumacher died Sept. 11, 2004, in a Corpus Christi hospital. He was born July 26, 1931, to the late Perry and Elsie Schumacher.
He serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1953. Mr. Schumacher married Bobbie Ruth Laird in 1952 and she preceded him in death in 1993. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Woody; and son, Mark.
Survivors include sons, Duane Schumacher of Corrientes, Argentina, and Steve Schumacher of Orange Grove; brothers, Charley Schumacher of Beeville and Davy Schumacher of Bluntzer; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ruth Foston
Funeral services for Ruth Thelma Foston, 45, of Rosenberg, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Faith Church. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Matthews Funeral Home.
Mrs. Foston died Oct. 6, 2004, at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond. She was born Jan. 26, 1959, to Henry Williams and Beatrice McCullough.
She was a homemaker.
