Ara S. Lumpkin
Services for Ara Sullivan Lumpkin, 96, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at South Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy Lumpkin and Henry Ashford officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lumpkin died Thursday at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
She was born April 2, 1905, in Brushy Creek to Cylous and Alice Warren Sullivan.
Mrs. Lumpkin married and had 15 children. She was a member of Greater Brown Springs Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Champ Lumpkin Sr.; son, Charlie B. Lumpkin; five sisters; and six brothers.
Mrs. Lumpkin is survived by daughters, Rovelia Gillens, Mary LaFontaine, Janet Lumpkin and Ruth Williams, all of Dallas, Ara Lee Pinson-Hare and Amey Tucker, both of Palestine; sons, Champ Lumpkin Jr., the Rev. Tommy Lumpkin and Theldon Lumpkin Sr., all of Palestine, Elzia Lumpkin and Regan Lenzia Lumpkin, both of Dallas; sister, Arnell Archie of Dallas; brothers, Frank Sullivan of Fort Worth and Leopolean Sullivan of Amarillo; 33 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be sons and older grandsons.
Edgar Mac Terry
Services for Edgar Mac Terry, 65, of Fairfield, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Capps Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Terry Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Mr. Terry died Thursday in Fairfield.
He was born Jan. 20, 1936, in Fairfield.
Mr. Terry was a lifelong resident of Fairfield. He was a rancher and worked security at the Texas Youth Commission. He was a member of VFW of Fairfield and Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1958 to July 1963.
He is survived by wife, Emilee Terry of Fairfield; daughter, Paula Beth Terry of Fairfield; sons, Michael Lee Terry of Fairfield and Emmett Doyle Terry of Teague; brother, Weldon Terry of Fairfield; sisters, Lola Ben Hollawy of Fairfield and Doris Ann Welch of Teague; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Frank Wesley Jr.
Services for Frank H. Wesley Jr., 75, of Girard, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka, Kan. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard, where friends may call after 1 p.m. today.
Mr. Wesley died Wednesday at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kan.
He was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Topeka, Kan. to Frank H. Wesley Sr. and Mary McMillan Wesley.
Mr. Wesley attended Silvan Grove Rural School in Minneapolis, Kan. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Navy during World War II. He lived in Kansas City, Kan. from 1946-1966 and in Palestine from 1966 to 1991. He then moved to Girard in 1991.
He was a member of the Farlington United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge No. 31 AF&AM of Palestine; Chapter No. 395 OES of Palestine, life member of the Tennessee Colony No. 102 OES; was past patron of both chapters of the Eastern Star. He was a former member of the Rosedale Congregational Church in Kansas City, Kan. for 42 years.
Mr. Wesley was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Annabell Gates, on May 27, 1997; and a sister.
He is survived by daughter, Radonna Wesley of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and sisters, Elnora Cochran of Harrison, Mo., Frances Puckett of Topeka, Kan. and Amble Hill of Wichita, Kan.
William J. Lee
Services for William J. “Bill” Lee, 69, of Buffalo, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Tommy Middlebrook and LRoy Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Wheelock Cemetery
Visitation will be today at the funeral home.
Mr. Lee died Wednesday at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield.
He was a lifelong resident of Buffalo with business and interests in farming, ranching and construction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. “Bud” Lee and Ersula Lummus.
Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, Johnnie Green Lee of Buffalo; sons, Thomas “Tommy” Walker Lee of Buffalo and William J. “Bubba” Lee Jr. of Austin; daughters, Linda Lee Mullenax, Jamie Lee Taylor, Mary Lee and Billie Lee, all of Buffalo; brother, Gene Lee of Mount Pleasant; sisters, Sue Pipes of Buffalo and Inez Terry of Arlington.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Haley, Walker Lee, J.W. Meredith, Jeffrey Taylor, Chad Taylor, Jason Sullivan, Allen Sullivan and Willie Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be R.J. Hartless, B.J. Scott, Pete Lathrop, J.D. Boyd, Chris Burns and Kenneth Horn.
Linda Sue Cotton
Services for Linda Sue Cotton, 60, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blair Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia with Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Cotton died Thursday.
She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Cotton is survived by her husband, P.W. Cotton, of Palestine; son, Gary Cotton; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott Cotton, Brent Cotton, Jimmy Cotton, Terry Cotton, Chester Seelinger and Brandon Stringfield.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Milton Alexander
Services for Milton G. “Bud” Alexander, 79, of Highland Haven, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Kingsland with the Rev. Joe Mitrano officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home of Marble Falls.
Mr. Alexander died Thursday.
He is survived locally by sister, Harriet Barnett, of Palestine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church in Kingsland.
A. Maurice Wigginton
Services for A. Maurice Wigginton, 82, of Martindale, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Martindale. Burial will follow in Martindale Cemetery.
Mr. Wigginton died Tuesday in Portland after a brief illness,
He was born February 1919 in Kaufman.
Mr. Wigginton was a longtime resident of Palestine. He graduated from Palestine High School and the University of Houston. He was a World War II veteran stationed at Ellington Field in Houston. He was retired from Shell Chemical Company in Pasadena after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Wigginton of Martindale; son, Fred David Wigginton of Aransas Pass; brother, Jack Wigginton of Katy; sisters, Mary Moore of Conroe and Ruby Shaid of Palestine; and three grandchildren.
John Willis Jones
Services for John Willis Jones, 65, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grant Chapel AME Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones died Sunday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 2, 1935, in Anderson County to Verdia U. Beard James and A. Jones.
Mr. Jones united with New Canaan Baptist Church. He attended Cuney Academy School and graduated from Clemons High School. He joined the United States Air Force on July 22, 1954 and was discharged on March 18, 1958. He married Shirley Ann Barrett. After moving to Houston, he was affiliated with Greater Emanuel Baptist Church. He was the lead guitarist with the religious group The Soprocos. He returned to Palestine after living many years in Houston.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Jones is survived by his mother; sons, Avery L. Jones of Houston and Timothy Earl Jones of California; stepson, Ulysses Barrett of Houston; daughter, Sonia Person of Houston; and special friend, Delores McKellum of Houston.
Pallbearers will be Elzie Beard Jr., Weldon Beard, Leroy Hopson, Alexis Simpson, Robert Simpson and James Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Brown, Johnny English, Melvin Ford, Willie Smith, Charles Walker and Booker Wheatley.
Mildred P. Brightwell
Services for Mildred P. Brightwell, 78, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brightwell died Wednesday night at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
She was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Pittsburg to Oma L. and Bertha Maud Alison Phillips.
Mrs. Brightwell was self-employed as owner/ operator of the Dairy Queen. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Palestine. She was on the board of directors and treasurer of Meals on Wheels. She was active in the exercise classes at First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by sister, Estelle Kennedy; and brothers, James Elbert Phillips, Charles Leonard Phillips and David Armand Phillips.
Mrs. Brightwell is survived by her husband, James Arthur “Art” Brightwell of Palestine; daughter, Debbie Bolton of Palestine; sons, James A. Brightwell II of Spring, David E. Brightwell of Frankston and Gerald W. Brightwell of Palestine; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Raben J. Bolton Jr., Adam Bolton, David Brightwell, Tim Brightwell, Wayne Thomas and J.R. Parker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cynthia Brightwell, Rebecca Thomas and Betsy Bolton.
Josephine Sherman
Services for Josephine Sherman, 88, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Chapel Church of God in Christ with Milton Algood officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Palestine.
Mrs. Sherman died Saturday at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 26, 1912, in Oakwood.
Mrs. Sherman was a housewife. She was reared in Oakwood. She was a member of Smith Chapel Church of God in Christ where she was a missionary teacher.
She is survived by son, William Ringer of Fort Worth; daughter, Orene McGruder of Palestine; brother, Willie Woodard of Palestine; sister, Louella Douglas of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Ann L. Thompson
Services for Mrs. Ace (Ann L.) Thompson, 80, of Schulenburg, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Schulenburg with the Rev. Phil Robberson officiating. Interment will be at Old High Hill Cemetery in High Hill. American Legion services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Chapel in Schulenburg.
Mrs. Thompson died Tuesday.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ace Thompson; and one brother.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by daughter, Jo Ann Thompson Stewart of Spring; sons, Earl A. Thompson III of Houston, Edward B. Thompson of Schulenburg and Steve Thompson of Austin; brother, Adrian Lathe of Williamsburg, Va.; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 1:15 to 2 p.m. Saturday.
