Lottie Kocian
Lottie Hedwig Bujnoch Kocian, age 85, of Wharton died Monday, May 31, 2004, in a Houston hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Lavaca County on April 14, 1919, the daughter of the late George Bujnoch Sr. and Apolena Miculek Bujnoch.
Mrs. Kocian married Emanuel Daniel Kocian Sr. on Feb. 20, 1939, in Hallettsville and he preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1979. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, two grandsons and one great-grandson. Mrs. Kocian had been a resident of Wharton since 1939 and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford. She was also a member of the KJZT, the Catholic Daughters, St. John’s Altar Society, the Czech Heritage Society and Senior Friends.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2004, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford and a funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at St. John’s Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Nevlud officiating. Burial followed in the St. John’s Church Cemetery in Hungerford.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Alice and Joe Machicek and Gladys and Willie Machicek, all of Shiner, Leona Boone of El Campo, Katherine and Tony Paul of Trinity, Joan and Floyd Gulling of Bedias and Theresa and Gilbert Hundl of Wharton.
Sons and daughters-in-law, Leroy and Delores Kocian, George and Bernice Kocian and Clarence and Sophia all of Wharton, Emanuel and Betty Kocian of Rosenberg and Ervin and Gloria Kocian of San Antonio; sisters, Elsie Steffek and Mary Helen Bujnoch, both of Hallettsville and Henrietta Nevlud of Victoria; brother, George Bujnoch of Hallettsville; 36 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Pallbearers were her grandsons: Leroy Kocian Jr., Kenneth Kocian, Joseph Machicek, David Machicek, Dusty Gulling, Matthew Kocian, Scott Kocian, Adam Kocian, Justin Kocian and Eric Hundl.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson.
In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to St. John’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 121, Hungerford, TX 77448.

Leroy Kocian
Leroy August Kocian Sr., age 66, of Wharton, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at the Oak Bend Hospital in Richmond. He was born on Oct. 9, 1939, in Hallettsville, son of the late Emanuel Kocian and Lottie Bujnoch Kocian.
Mr. Kocian was reared in Wharton County and was educated in Holy Family Catholic School, and the Hungerford and East Bernard school systems. He married Delores Baca on June 30, 1962, in Wharton. Mr. Kocian was a former resident of Houston before moving to Wharton in 1982. He retired as a mechanic for the United Parcel Service in 2002. Most recently, Mr. Kocian was a self-employed farmer and rancher. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Mission in Boling. Mr. Kocian enjoyed spending time with his family, barbecuing, deer hunting, listening to Polka music and participating in gun raffles.
A rosary service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral mass services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Roger Hawes officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford.

Eugene Orsak
Eugene “Gene” Orsak, age 66, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at his home after an extended illness. He was born to Anton Orsak and Anna Jurek on May 27, 1940, in Wharton.
Mr. Orsak was a self-employed carpenter for many years building homes in the Wharton area and many other counties up until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters: Wilma Schanka, Gorgia Hogg, Calvin Orsak and Lonnie Orsak.
Mr. Orsak is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Wharton; daughters, Tami Edwards of Wilmington, N.C., and Christey Brast of Wharton; son, Rodney Orsak of Dallas; and five grandchildren, Lance, Garrett, Justin, Ashley Edwards and Cody Brast; and numerous nephews and nieces throughout Wharton and surrounding counties.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at Peace Tabernacle Church with Rev. Charles Fisher officiating.

Funeral services for Eunice Rogers, 98, of Wharton, are pending at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home.
Lloyd Rust
Lloyd Gates Rust Jr., age 86, of Wharton, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at his home following an extended illness. He was born on Dec. 4, 1919, in Wharton, the son of the late Lloyd Gates Rust Sr. and Myrtle Shannon Breedlove Rust.
He was a lifelong resident of Wharton and a fourth generation of the Rust family to live and own land in Wharton. Mr. Rust graduated from Wharton High School in 1937 and then enrolled in pre-law at the University of Texas. He joined the U. S. Navy following Pearl Harbor and after passing the bar exam before completing his law degree he was sworn in as a licensed attorney aboard the U.S.S. Hull.
Following the war, Mr. Rust began his law practice in 1947. He won a seat in the Texas House of Representatives and served from 1949 until 1950. Mr. Rust was elected county attorney in 1950 and served in that capacity for 18 years. In 1974 he was elected Judge of the Court of Domestic Relations and later was appointed by the Governor of Texas as State District Judge. He retired as district judge in 1983.
During his years in politics he served on numerous community organizations. He was a past president of the Wharton Lions Club, the Wharton Chamber of Commerce, the Wharton County Bar Association and the Wharton County Texas Exes. Mr. Rust was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Elks Lodge, and was a founding member of the Johnson Foundation Board of Trustees where he served most recently as vice-chairman.
He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wharton where he served as elder, deacon, chairman of the Central Planning Committee and Building Fund treasurer. Mr. Rust also managed his family’s farming and real estate business.
He married Rose Marie Dominy on Dec. 17, 1952, in Wharton and she preceded him in death in 1964.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Debbie Cenko officiating.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law; Rebecca and Rosemary Rust of Wharton, Betsy Rust Jocher and husband, John, of Houston and Rachel Rust and husband Paul Sherland of Charlottesville, Va.; sister-in-law, Mavournee and husband, Wayne DuBose, of Skidmore; seven nieces and nephews and cousin, Thomas M. Rust and wife Lynne of West Bend, Wis., and their three daughters.

Mrs. Torres died Sept. 18, 2006, in a Webster hospital following an extended illness.
Earl Randolph
Following cremation, memorials services for Earl Clayton Randolph Sr., 79, of Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at First Lutheran Church, 301 West Farrel Road in Lafayette, La., with Pastor Kenneth Burke officiating.
Mr. Randolph died May 29, 2004, in Wharton following a sudden illness. He was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Bogalusa, La., the son of the late H.C. and Emma Ackerman Randolph.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Randolph married Joyce Kosik on April 4, 1975, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wharton. He worked as an architect for Strobel & Hunter Associates in Pensacola, Fla., prior to retiring in January of 2004 and moving to Wharton. He was a former resident of Lafayette, La., and while living there he operated a boxing club for troubled kids. He was Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Randolph of Wharton; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Jean and Greg Nick of Lafayette, La.; son and daughter-in-law, Earl Clayton “Clay” and Maria Randolph Jr. of Lafayette, La.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Tom Armatta of Lafayette, La., and Alicia and Paul Schoeffler of Baton Rouge, La.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ward and Marion Randolph of Baton Rouge, La., H.C. and Marie Randolph III of Baton Rouge, La., and Elwood and Ramona Randolph of California; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Meta Wagner and brother, Norman Randolph, who died while serving his country in World War II.

Rudolph Ziober
Rudolph Joseph “Joe” Ziober, age 84, of Lane City, died Monday, May 31, 2004, in Wharton. He was born on July 24, 1919, in Jackson, Mich., the son of the late Joe and Mary Shenkir Ziober.
Mr. Ziober moved with his family to Lane City as a child and has been a resident of Lane City for the past 79 years. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He married Dorothy Mae Wishert on Jan. 6, 1951, in Wharton. Mr. Ziober was employed for 14 years with the Lower Colorado River Authority and retired as a plant supervisor in 1984. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lane City. Mr. Ziober enjoyed working in his garden, fishing in the Colorado River and was also a very avid reader.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Wharton Funeral Home with Mickey Reynolds officiating and Rev. Orville Roberts assisting. military graveside services and interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park under the Auspices of the Wharton American Legion Post No. 87.

Wilbern Allen
Funeral services for Wilbern Milton Allen, 77, of Boling, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Kersten officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside honors provided by American Legion Post No. 87 of Wharton.
Mr. Allen died June 13, 2004, in a Wharton hospital after a brief illness. He was born June 11, 1927, in Freeport, the son of the late Lee Allen and Lillian Hobbs Allen.
He had been a resident of Boling since 1940 and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wharton. Mr. Allen was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He married Ida Mae Matula on Dec. 16, 1950, in Beeville. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae Allen of Boling; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Robert Gajdosik of Bastrop; sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas Allen of Rosenberg, Dennis Allen of Kosse and Dwain and Sharron Allen of Paige; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Joe Joines of Boling; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Sue Allen of Nederland; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Donna Benge
Donna H. Benge, age 42, of Wharton, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, in Wharton following a sudden illness. She was born on Feb. 22, 1962, in Takoma Park, Md., the daughter of Herbert Andrew Holland and Margy Secrist Hall.
Mrs. Benge was a former longtime resident of Angleton before moving to Wharton in 1989. She married Olan Eugene Benge II on May 31, 1989, on Matagorda Beach. Mrs. Benge was a 1980 graduate of Angleton High School. She received her associate degree from Wharton County Junior College in 1988, bachelor of science degree in political science from the University of Houston in 1991 and doctor of jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1997.
She founded her private law practice, Donna Benge Attorney at Law, in November of 1997 in Wharton. Mrs. Benge was also a co-owner of Poor Farms Bail Bonds and Wrecker Service. She achieved many honors while attending South Texas College of Law, including Certificate of Recognition in Moot Court Competition in 1994, finalist in Mock Trial competition in 1995 and Dean’s Honor List in the fall semester of 1996. She was admitted and qualified as an attorney and counselor for the U. S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas in 1999.
Mrs. Benge was a member and contributor to many associations including, the American Bar Association, Texas State Bar Association, Wharton Bar Association, where she was president in 1999-2000), Association of Women Attorneys, Boling Fair Fund, Wharton Fair Fund and was a corporate sponsor for the Plaza Theater. She was a member of the Iago Federated Church.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Mickey Reynolds officiating. Graveside services will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call for visitation at the Wharton Funeral Home from 5 until 9 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include her husband, Olan Eugene Benge II of Wharton; daughters, Stacey Lee Scoggins of Bay City, Samantha Michelle Benge of Wharton and Sabrina Nicole Benge of Wharton; son, Alvin Eugene Benge and wife, Sharon, of Wharton; mother, Margy Hall and husband, Rev. Jo Black
Jo Lurlyne Lester Black, age 87, of Wharton, died Friday, June 11, 2004, in a Houston hospital following a sudden illness. She was born on Nov. 6, 1916, in Denton, the daughter of the late Alvin Jefferson Lester and Shirley Maupin Lester.
Mrs. Black had been a resident of Wharton since 1943 and was a member of Christ Is Life Church in Wharton. She married Dr. Vernon A. Black Sr. on Sept. 26, 1936, in Quannah, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1988. Mrs. Black was also preceded in death by two brothers. She was a homemaker and a member of the “Out To Lunch Bunch.”
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Christ Is Life Church with Rev. Michael Atherton officiating. Burial followed in Wharton City Cemetery.
