Eula Ganske
Eula Grace Howell Ganske, age 73, of Sugar Land and a longtime resident of Wharton County, died Thursday morning, Nov. 20, 2003, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on March 15, 1930, in Sherman, the daughter of the late John and Grace Smith Howell.
She married Walter Sam “Bo” Ganske on April 24, 1949, in Bay City. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1992. Prior to retiring, she worked as a secretary for Texasgulf Sulfur. Mrs. Ganske was a former member of Newgulf Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Wharton. She was a volunteer for SHARE.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at First Baptist Church in Wharton. Interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Rosenberg.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Terri Ganske of Boling; daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Pete Brooks of Sugar Land; sister, Beaulah Warren of Midwest City, Okla.; brother, Jack Howell of Dallas; grandchildren and spouses, Shane and Vikki Ganske of League City, Ty and Ronda Ganske of Austin, Samantha Brooks of Sugar Land, Mickey Brooks of Sugar Land and Nihla Rae Perry of Eagle Lake. Three brothers preceded her in death.
Pallbearers were Lyle Burns, Melvin Baca, Edgar Roades, Bubba Altenburg, Pete Brooks and Mike Saizon. Honorary pallbearers were Norman Brown, Clinton White and Melvin Ganske.

Hattie Hobizal
Funeral services for Hattie Grossman Hobizal, 91, of Rosenberg and former resident of Shiner and Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Eckert officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Shiner.
Mrs. Hobizal died Nov. 23, 2003, in Rosenberg. She was born Dec. 2, 1911, in Gonzales County to the late Laddie and Mary Lesak Grossman.
She spent her life as a housewife. Mrs. Hobizal married Tom Hobizal and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Adeline Boedeker; sister, Lillie Richey; brothers, Bill Grossman, Fred Grossman and Ed Grossman; and a granddaughter.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Willis D. and Gloria Hobizal of Rosenberg; son-in-law, Martin Boedeker of Shiner; sisters, Louise Polasek of Shiner and Adela Marek of Texarkana, Ark.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-granchildren.
Pallbearers are Donnie Boedeker, Martin Boedecker Jr., Randy Boedeker, David Boedeker, Carl Hobizal and Brian Wolter.
Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Boedeker, Morris Boedeker and Bo Anderson.
Valarie Jackson
Funeral services for Valarie Renee Jackson, 48, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Martin Luther King Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Bowden Cemetery in Hungerford.
Mrs. Jackson died Nov. 22, 2003, at her residence. She was born Nov. 14, 1955, in Wharton to the late James and Ethel C. Williams Ross Sr.
She worked as an activity director in the healthcare field.
Survivors include husband Charlie Jackson Jr. of Wharton; daughter, Sarah Isabelle Sanders of Wharton; son, Timothy Wayne Ross Sanders of Wharton; sisters, Gilda Harris, Angela Gardner and Harriett Davis, all of Wharton; brothers, Hayward Ross and James Ross Jr., both of Wharton, and Anthony Ross of Pflugerville; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Gordon Koonce
Temple Gordon Koonce Jr., age 68, of Wharton, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, in a Houston hospital following an extended illness. He was born on July 26, 1935, in Victoria, the son of Temple Gordon Koonce Sr. and the late Martha Frances Forgason Koonce.
Mr. Koonce graduated from Wharton High School in 1953. He attended Abilene Christian University where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in 1957. He was named to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities” and was selected as “Outstanding Student of Range Management of the State of Texas” by the Texas Society of Range Management. Mr. Koonce married Patricia Ann Power on June 8, 1956, in Sinton. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2001. He was the former owner of Koonce Petroleum and was a rancher and partner in the Koonce Division of J.D. Hudgins, Inc. He had lived in Wharton County since 1957 and was a member and former Elder at Abell Street Church of Christ.
Mr. Koonce was past state president of the Texas Association of Young Farmers. He also was a past president of the Wharton Rotary Club, the Wharton Chamber of Commerce, the Wharton Industrial Foundation and the Wharton County Boy Builders Association. He served on the Wharton City Council, Wharton County Junior College Board of Trustees, Texas Oil Marketers Association Board of Directors and Abilene Christian University Advisory Board. Mr. Koonce served as National Chairman of the Exxon Distributors Advisory Council and in 1970 was named to “Who’s Who Among Outstanding Young Men in America.”
Funeral services were held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Abell Street Church of Christ with Gene Polvado and Paul Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include his father, Temple Gordon Koonce Sr. of Hungerford; sons and daughters-in-law, Temple Gordon Koonce III and wife, Beverly, of Hungerford, Philip Shane Koonce and wife, Joan, of Sugar Land, J’Boone Forgason Koonce and wife, Jana, of Hungerford and Joe Hamilton Koonce and wife, Ellen, of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Frances Cullers of Hungerford and grandchildren, Temple Gordon Koonce IV, Brittany Koonce, Haylee Koonce, Jared Koonce, Kellye Koonce, Cole Koonce, Cade Koonce, Marli Koonce, Jaci Koonce and Justin Koonce.
Pallbearers were Judd Cullers, Ron Daniels, Richard Forgason, Joel Williams, Clifton Black, Emory Thomas, Joel Koonce and Jared Koonce.

Louvenia Neal
Funeral services for Louvenia “Ruth” Neal, 57, of Houston, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Community Church, 9410 W. Montgomery, in Houston, with Rev. A.J. Kemper Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise South Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until noon Friday at Pierce Boone Funeral Home and from 6 top 9 p.m. at the church. Ms. Neal died March 27, 2004, at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. She was born Oct. 7, 1946, in Wharton to Mance and Audrey Greenwood Grissom Sr.
Survivors include son, Michael Grissom of Chatsworth, Calif.; daughter, Alicia Brown of Houston; brother, Mance Grissom Jr. of Wharton; sisters, Susan Moore of Wharton, Callie Jones of Phoenix, Ariz., Dorothy McClanahan of Galveston and Lucille Walker of Wharton; and four grandchildren.
Ellis Allen
Funeral services for Ellis Stanley Allen, 77, of Houston, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Pat H. Foley & Company Funeral Home in Houston with Rev. David Barclay officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Columbia Cemetery in West Columbia. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Pat H. Foley & Company Funeral Home, 1200 W. 34th Street in Houston.
Mr. Allen died March 25, 2004. He was born Dec. 25, 1926, in Elida, N.M., to the late Ellis Oscar and Hattie Mae Ewing Allen.
He was a property tax consultant, founding member of TAPTP and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include wife, Mildred Donihoo Allen; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn Wells, Linda and Johnny Butterfield and Susan and Don Averre; sons, James Ellis and Chris Weber; five grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Murl Kay, Dorothy and Frederick Bertram and Ann and David Foster; and other relatives in Wharton.
Peggy Wicke
Funeral Mass for Peggy Wicke, 63, of Rosenberg, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 29, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Rev. Dan Warden will officiate at the services. Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Sunday, March 28, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Wicke was born Jan. 9, 1941, in Richmond to Lee Vyvial and Annie Bednar Vyvial. She passed away March 24, 2004, in Houston. Mrs. Wicke is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Annie Vyvial.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Charles Wicke, of Rosenberg; children, Deborah “Debbie” Korenek and husband John Lee Jr. of East Bernard, Darryl Wicke of Richmond and Duane Wicke of Rosenberg; grandchildren, Jacob and Jonah Korenek, both of East Bernard; sister, Margie Patterson of Houston; brothers, Lee Vyvial of Houston and Jerry Vyvial of Rosenberg; and numerous other relatives and many friends.

Lucy Buzek
Funeral services for Lucy Buzek, 90, of El Campo, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nada with Rev. Joseph Koebel officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo. Rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nada.
Mrs. Buzek died March 22, 2004. She was born Jan. 19, 1914, in Nada to the late Joseph and Annie Drlik Labay.
She married the late Paul Kubecka and later married Louis Buzek Sr., who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Buzek was a homemaker. She was a member of the Nada KJZT No. 17 and Christian Mothers.
Survivors include daughters, Connie Schoellmann of Nada, Juliana Kotulek of El Campo and Anna Lee Peikert of Egypt; sons, Leroy Buzek and Louis Buzek, both of El Campo; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, eight sisters and five brothers.
Willie Jones
Funeral services for Willie Lee Jones, 77, of Wharton, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. A.J. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Jones died March 19, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born in Wharton Feb. 19, 1927, to Alvin and Tennessee Newmon Hargrove.
Survivors include son, Kenneth Jones of Wharton; sisters, L.V. Steele of Wharton and Mildred Brown of El Paso; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-granchildren.

Nofrio Schiro
A memorial service for Nofrio Monty Schiro, 61, of Wharton, will be held at a later date.
Mr. Schiro died March 20, 2004, at Wharton Manor Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Houston to George Schiro and Myrtle Booth. He worked as a fence builder.

Ann Stanfield
Funeral services for Ann Rhodes Stanfield, 96, of Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Wharton Funeral Home with Dr. Donnie Melton officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery in Garrison.
Mrs. Stanfield died March 20, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Garrison on Aug. 11, 1907, the daughter of the late Thomas Edward Rhodes and Mary Ophelia Lee Rhodes.
She grew up in Garrison and graduated from Garrison High School. Mrs. Stanfield attended Stephen F. Austin University where she received her bachelor of science and master’s degrees. She taught in Garrison where she met Curtis Stanfield and they were married on July 17, 1928, in Garrison. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1983. They taught in several small towns before moving to Wharton in 1955. Mrs. Stanfield taught in the Wharton Independent School District until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Wharton.
Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Melba Anderson
Funeral services for Melba Ann Anderson, 69, of Lake Jackson, will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Alex Lupo officiating. Mrs. Anderson died March 17, 2004, in a Lake Jackson hospital. She was born on Dec. 6, 1934, in Longview, the daughter of the late Edward and Laura Ruth Kennedy Ware.
She married Darrel Anderson on March 17, 1957. He preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1980. She was a former resident of Wharton, Pledger and Freeport.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Derwood and Gail Anderson of Corpus Christi, Darren and Teresa Anderson of Sweeny and Naomi Anderson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry Ware of Van Vleck, Billy and Pat Ware of Van Vleck and Jerry and Juanita Ware of Bay City; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Anderson; brother, Eddie Ware; and sister, Jean Kirkland.

Genevieve McGuire
Genevieve Matula McGuire, age 76, of Wharton, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, in a Wharton hospital following an extended illness. She was born on May 28, 1927, in Hungerford, the daughter of the late Julius C. Matula Sr. and Cecelia Sulak Matula.
Mrs. McGuire graduated from Wharton High School. She married Charles A. McGuire Jr. on May 19, 1951, in Wharton. She was a former resident of Beaumont and had lived in Wharton since 1983. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Wharton Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf, mahjong and dominos.
Funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Saturday, March 20, 2004, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rachunek officiating. Interment will follow in the Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include husband, Charles A. McGuire Jr. of Wharton; daughters and son-in-law, Patty and Paul Shannon of Wharton and Debbie McGuire of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Charles A. McGuire III and wife, Rebecca of LaPorte; sister, Bessie LaVictoire of Washington, N.C.; brother, Julius Matula Jr. of Wharton; and grandchildren, Chase McGuire, Jennifer McGuire and Preston Shannon. She was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Matula.
Pallbearers will be Chase McGuire, Preston Shannon, Ricky Matula, Paul Shannon, Tommy Matula and David Lawrence.

Bettie Taylor
Funeral services for Bettie A. Taylor, 65, of Kendleton, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, at Boones Bend Church of God. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery in Kendleton.
Ms. Taylor died March 17, 2004, at her residence. She was born March 22, 1938, in Wharton County to John Taylor and Lucille Jackson Taylor.
She worked in nursing.
Survivors include siblings, Doris Taylor, Thomas Taylor, Chancy Taylor and Perry Taylor.
