Jack Doiron

Graveside services for Jack Thomas Doiron, 83, of Wharton and a former life-long resident of Beaumont, were held Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Bill Edwards officiating. military honors were provided by American Legion Post No. 87 of Wharton.

Mr. Doiron died Sept. 28, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on July 24, 1920, in Beaumont, the son of the late Samuel A. Doiron and Maude Neel Doiron.

He had been a resident of Beaumont all of his life until moving to Wharton in 2001. He was employed as a line foreman with Gulf States Utilities for 42 years until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Doiron was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. He married Lillian Mae Huggins on July 4, 1970, in Beaumont. Mr. Doiron was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Doiron and Freddie Mae Stanley, and a brother, Samuel A. “Burt” Doiron.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Doiron of Wharton; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Burlis Bickham of Newgulf and Sherry and Larry Ridley of Webster; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Jack and Jan Doiron of Duncan, Okla., Clint Thomas and Kristine Doiron of Knoxville, Tenn., and Dale and Beverly Edwards of Rosenberg: 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials to the Abell Street Church of Christ, P.O. Box 790, Wharton, TX 77488; or Hospice Support, Inc., 1102 N. Mechanic, Suite B, El Campo, TX 77437.

Lucille King

Funeral services for Lucille Pinkney King, 65, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Faith Church with Rev. Eric Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Houston. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Matthews Funeral Home.

Mrs. King died Sept. 26, 2003, at Gulf Coast Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Dewalt to the late Frandy Pinkney and Maple Randle.

She was a retired home healthcare giver and had lived in Wharton a year. Mrs. King was Pentecostal by faith.

Survivors include daughter, Glenda Whitaker; son, Roy Lee Pinkney; sisters, Rosie Dove, Betty Pinkney, Willie Mae Pinkney and Ada Pinkney; brother, Lorenzo Pinkney Sr.; and two grandchildren.

Edmundo Sanchez

Funeral services for Edmundo Montelongo Sanchez of Houston will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Sanchez died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in a Houston Hospital after a brief illness.

Beatrice Macias

Beatrice Cerrillo Macias, age 76, of Wharton, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, in Richmond. She was born on June 10, 1927, in Wharton, the daughter of the late Felipe Cerrillo and Juanita Peres Cerrillo.
Mrs. Macias married Trinidad Macias on March 27, 1948, in Wharton. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1964. She was a homemaker, a lifelong resident of Wharton and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 27, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Father Don Ruppert officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Ernestino Longoria Jr. and Alice Palacios, both of Richmond; sister, Susie Mata of Wharton; and grandsons, Edward T. Longoria and Kenneth R. Longoria. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Edward T. Longoria, Kenneth R. Longoria, Henri Webb, Gilbert Garcia Jr., John Cerrillo and Fernando Cerrillo Jr.

If desiring, memorials may be made to Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 506 S. East Avenue, Wharton, TX 77488.

Ethel Neal

Ethel Lee Davis Neal was born on Sept. 15, 1904, to the union of Rev. Isaiah and Violet Davis in a small community called “The Colony” about three miles east of Wallis in Fort Bend county. She confessed Christ and was baptized at Sweet Connerville Baptist Church in Wallis.

Mrs. Neal attended elementary school in The Colony, and finished high school at a Christian Boarding School in Houston. She attended Prairie View College one term and a summer then returned home and taught school for one year.

In 1929, she married Wiley Neal of Kendleton. God blessed this union with six children: Maurice, Corene, Joe, Loretta, Kanzetta and Wendell.

She enrolled at Houston Negro College and received a bachelor of science degree. Mrs. Neal taught school, attended classes in the summer and earned her master’s degree in education from Texas Southern University. She taught school for 31 years in the following places: The Colony, Tavener, Fulshear, Beasley and the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. Mrs. Neal retired in 1970.

Mrs. Neal was Matron of the L.C. Martin Chapter No.of the Order of the Eastern Star for 38 years and was the current present treasurer for 10 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, National Baptist Convention of America and American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).

She was member of Little Zion Baptist Church where Rev. Richard Booker was her pastor. Mrs. Neal was superintendent of Sunday School for 20 plus years. She resigned as superintendent on March 9, 1997, where she remained dutiful and faithful until the end.

She leaves to cherish these precious memories, two faithful daughters, Loretta N. Craft of Wharton, wife of the late Curley Craft, and Kanzetta N. and Albert Allen of Kendleton; one son, Joe Louis and Edna Neal of Kendleton; 13 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one precious and loving niece, Viola B. and Melvin Lee of Houston; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Neal was relieved of all her earthly burdens on Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, and went home forever to be with the Lord.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, at Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton with Rev. Richard Booker officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Point Cemetery in Kendleton. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. today in Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton.

Clara Hill

Funeral services for Clara Hill, 65, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. A.J. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in New Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Hill died Sept. 18, 2003, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Wharton to R. S. and Rosie Lee Harris Scott.

Survivors include sons, T.J. Hill Jr. of Bellville and Ronald Hill of Kennedy; daughter, Shelia Hill Wilson of Wharton; brother, Archie Scott of Wharton; sisters, Arlena Scott and Darlene Moore, both of Wharton; and four grandchildren.

Ethel Neal

Funeral services for Ethel Lee Davis Neal, 99, of Kendleton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton with Rev. Richard Booker officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Point Cemetery in Kendleton. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton.

Mrs. Neal died Sept. 22, 2003, at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond. She was born Sept. 15, 1904, in Wallis to Violet Campbell and Rev. Isiah Davis.

Survivors include daughters, Loretta N. Craft of Wharton and Kanzetta N. Allen of Kendleton; son, Joe Louis Neal Sr. of Kendleton; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Albina Sablatura

Funeral services for Albina Kathryn Sablatura, 87, of Wharton, were held Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Joe Vrana officiating. Graveside services and burial followed in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in El Campo with Deacon Jarrel Nohavitza officiating. A Catholic Daughters Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sablatura died Sept. 15, 2003, in a Wharton hospital following an extended illness. She was born Feb. 27, 1916, in El Campo the daughter of the late Joseph Valigura and Mary Roznosky Valigura.
She had been a longtime resident of El Campo and had lived in Wharton for the past 20 years. She married Clement Stephan “Clem” Sablatura on Oct. 29, 1934, in El Campo and he preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1993. A son, Ervin Sablatura, in 1957 and also two brothers and four sisters also preceded her in death. She worked as a cafeteria manager for the El Campo Independent School District for 25 years until her retirement. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, the Catholic Daughters and the KJZT.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Nancy Sablatura of Wharton; and one grandson.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to a church or charity of personal choice.

Holli Tomlin

Funeral services for Holli K. Tomlin, 8, of Victoria, were held Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Muehlbrad officiating. Burial followed in Mission Valley Cemetery.

Holli died Sept. 15, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born Oct. 6, 1994, in Corpus Christi, to Larry Tomlin of Rosenberg, and formerly of Wharton, and Stacey Hart Nickel of Victoria.

She was a third grade student at Mission Valley Elementary and a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include father, Larry Tomlin of Rosenberg; mother, Stacey Hart Nickel of Victoria; step-father, Shannon Nickel of Victoria; step-brother, Tyler Nickel of Edna; grandparents, Stanley Hart, Vera Hart, Larry Tomlin and Judy Tomlin, all of Alvin, and Edwinia Drake and Joe Drake, both of Santa Fe; and great-grandmother, Sue Carlton of Hattisburg, Miss. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lori Tomlin.

Lori Tomlin

Funeral services for Lori R. Tomlin, 11, of Victoria, were held Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Muehlbrad officiating. Burial followed in Mission Valley Cemetery.

Lori died Sept. 15, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born April 9, 1992, in Angelton, to Larry Tomlin of Rosenberg, and formerly of Wharton, and Stacey Hart Nickel of Victoria.

She was a sixth grade student at Patti Welder Junior High School and a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Survivors include father, Larry Tomlin of Rosenberg; mother, Stacey Hart Nickel of Victoria; step-father, Shannon Nickel of Victoria; step-brother, Tyler Nickel of Edna; grandparents, Stanley Hart, Vera Hart, Larry Tomlin and Judy Tomlin, all of Alvin, and Edwinia Drake and Joe Drake, both of Santa Fe; and great-grandmother, Sue Carlton of Hattisburg, Miss.

Horace Green

Funeral services for Horace Green, 83, of Wharton, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Rivers Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery in Kendleton.

Mr. Green died Nov. 28, 2003, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born March 24, 1920, in Kendleton to Charlie Green and Katherine Lowe.

He had lived in Wharton for eight months. Mr. Green was a laborer and was Baptist by faith. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include daughter and sons-in-law, Thelma Lee and Edward Turner Sr. and Johnnie Mae and Jimmie Woods Sr.; son, Mose White; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

William Pierce

William Wayne “Bill” Pierce, age 57, of Wharton died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in a Hermann Memorial Hospital following an automobile accident. He was born on March 9, 1946, in Newgulf, the son of the late Arthur Wayne Pierce and Rena Maxine Bullock Pierce.

Mr. Pierce was a resident of Sweeny in Brazoria County before moving to Wharton in 1970. He graduated form Sweeny High School in 1964 and then graduated from Wharton County Junior College. Mr. Pierce was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served in the U.S. Air Force. While he was in the Air Force he was commended to attend Officer Candidate School. He married Nancy Ann Buenger on Nov. 19, 1966, in Wharton. Mr. Pierce was employed by W-K-M Valve Company in Missouri City for 20 years as a supervisor of international sales; he also worked for four years with the South Texas Medical Clinic in central supply, where he received the employee of the quarter award. Most recently he worked as an assistant service manager at Von Wil Ford for the past two years. He was a former member of the WCJC Rodeo Club, former coach of the Wharton Little League and a member of the American Legion Post No. 251 in El Campo. He was Baptist by faith.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Backen officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the American Legion Post No. 251 will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Wharton Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Ann Pierce of Wharton; sons, Kevin Wayne Pierce and wife, Tina, of Spring and Gregory Steven Pierce of Fulshear; mother, Rena Maxine Pierce of Sweeny; brothers, Perry Dennis Pierce and wife, Debbie, of West Columbia, Randall Keith Pierce and wife, Charlene, of Sweeny, Michael Jay Pierce and wife, Toi, of Sweeny and Steven Ray Pierce and wife, Renee, of West Columbia; granddaughter, Morgan Ashleigh Pierce; brother-in-law, Roy James Buenger and wife, Linda, of Wharton and Ernest Giesie and wife, Rozell of Wharton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his father and brother-in-law, Leo Giesie.

Pallbearers are Perry Dennis Pierce, Randall Keith Pierce, Michael Jay Pierce, Steven Ray Pierce, Roy James Buenger and Ernest Giesie.

Honorary pallbearers are Logan Giesie, Eric Pierce, Cory Pierce, Michael Chase Pierce, Shane Pierce, Gregory Charles Pierce and Brandon Rogers.

Jimmy Rivera

Funeral services for Jimmy Rivera, 53, of Egypt, were held Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Wharton City Cemetery.

Mr. Rivera died Nov. 28, 2003, at his residence. He was born Sept. 3, 1950, in Richmond to Eduarda Sanchez and Guadulupe Rivera.

He had been a resident of Egypt for five years and married Gloria Espinoza. Mr. Rivera was a laborer and Catholic by faith.

Survivors include wife, Gloria Espinoza; daughters, Saundra Martinez of North Carolina and Melisa Rivera of Victoria; sister, Elida Salazar and Mary Anne Gallego; brother, Sam Rivera; and six grandchildren.
