Grady U. Isbell

Services for Grady U. Isbell, 95, of Elkhart will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Elkhart, with the Revs. David E. Foster and Gerald Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Isbell died Friday at an Elkhart healthcare facility.

He was born Jan. 21, 1905, in Grimes County near Iola. He was employed by Gulf Oil Corp. for 35 years — 20 of which he spent in Kuwait, Venezuela, Europe, North Africa, Iraq and Iran. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elkhart Masonic Lodge for more than 60 years, Scottish Rite and Lions Club.
Mr. Isbell was preceded in death by his wife, Evalena Kyle Isbell; and sisters, Zula McDougald, Rose Foster, Sadye Bowman and LaRue Moore.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Isbell, Jack Isbell, Bill Perry, B.K. Dodd, Jerry Stephens, Kenneth McDougald,  Taylor Paul and the Rev. Gerald Brown.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ernestine Colbert

- Services for Ernestine Colbert, 82, of Oakwood, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Oakwood with the Rev. R.C. Emanuel officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.

Mr. Colbert died Wednesday at Olen Teague Medical Center in Temple.

He was born March 28, 1918, in Leon County to B.S. Holland and Ellen William, but he was reared by Commie and Vaseline Colbert.

Mr. Colbert served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He was married to Ruthie M. Crenshaw until her death on Dec. 17, 1989.

He is survived by children, Kathern Carter of Dallas, Ellen Wood of Hutchison, Earnest Colbert of Oakwood and Eugene Colbert of Houston; siblings, Louise  Jones of San Antonio, Dave Dozier of El Paso, Dorothy Kelley and Rena Williams of Waco; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Jim Tuskey

Services for Jim Tuskey, 55, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fort Houston Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Swisher officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Tuskey died Tuesday night at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 25, 1944 in Hinsdale, Ill. to William Dominick and Edith Mae Vogett Tuskey.

Mr. Tuskey was a self employed truck driver, and served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert William Tuskey I.

Mr. Tuskey is survived by his wife, Ann Tuskey of Palestine; daughters, Cindy Scarber and Mary Freeman, both of Mesquite, and Amanda Tuskey of Palestine; son, Robert William Tuskey II of Mesquite; sister, Sharon Little of Weatherford; brother, Doug Tuskey of Mesquite; six grandchildren; and special friend, Margaret Stogdill.

Pallbearers will be Michael Freeman, Justin Freeman, James Scarber, and Donna Hughes.

Condolence calls will be received today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

James R. Evans

Services for James R. Evans, 65, of Deer Park, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bailey & Foster Chapel in Palestine. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Mr. Evans died Wednesday from ALS - Lou Gehrig's Disease.

He served in the Air Force and retired from Lubrizol Chemical Company.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Frances Evans of Deer Park; daughters, Janyth McNeely and Jamie Penick, both of Deer Park, and Julie Goodson of Pearland; sisters, Maggie DeFore of Waco, Clara Fincher of Palestine, Midge Murray of Brownsboro and Nell Gustafssin of Overland Park, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Darryl Shipper

Services for Darryl W. Shipper, 49, of Banks, Ala. will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Muse Baptist Church with Melvin Holifield and Matthew McBryde officiating. Burial will follow in Muse Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mr. Shipper died Sunday at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

He was born Sept. 16, 1950, in Anderson County to Jimmie Lee and Jean Starkey Shipper.

Mr. Shipper was a regional manager for Affordable Dentures Dental Laboratories and a member of the Dental Lab Association. He was a member of Westside Missionary Baptist Church in Prattville, Ala. Mr. Shipper served in the U.S. Navy during the  Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Lee Shipper.

Mr. Shipper is survived by his wife, Yvonne Shipper of Banks, Ala.; mother, Jean Shipper of Palestine; daughters, Jennifer Ellen  Johnson of Sheperd and Jessica Christian Shipper of Banks, Ala.; sons, David Benjamin Shipper and Tucker Lee Shipper, both of Banks, Ala.; sisters, Carolyn Prater of Palestine and Linda Jean Musick of Montalba; brother, Bobby L. Shipper of Spring; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Wayne Prater, Scotty Allen Prater, Billy Herman Self, Cody Paige Blackmon, Jeremy Scott Blackmon and David Starkey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Lee Johnson, Mark David Blackmon and Terry Lee Blackmon.

Condolence calls will be received from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles Wardell

Services for Charles Wardell, 81, of Seguin, were held Monday at First Baptist Church in Seguin with the Rev. Neil Kibbe officiating. Burial followed in San Geronimo Cemetery under the direction of Goetz Funeral Home.

Mr. Wardell died Friday in Nesbit Nursing Home in Seguin.

He was born Sept. 14, 1918, to Willie and Ellen Baird Wardell in Anderson County.

Mr. Wardell was a World War II Army veteran. He worked for the government as an engineer in soil conservation.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lorena Shamburger Wardell of Seguin; daughter, Jan Wardell of Seguin; sisters, Mabel S. and Betty Kimbrough; brother, Marvin “Son” Wardell; and one grandson.

Donald Coley

Services for Donald James Coley will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Faith Chapel on N. IH 35 in Austin. Burial will be at 5 p.m. at Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home in Palestine.

Mr. Coley died Sunday in Austin.

He was born Oct. 6, 1969, to Patricia and Arnold E. Coley.
Mr. Coley was preceded in death by his father, Arnold E. Coley in 1979.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Patricia Coley Drake and John Drake of Palestine; wife, Jennifer Coley of Cedar Park; sons, Jonathan Coley and Zackery Coley, both of Cedar Park; sisters, Grace Vondra of Grapeland; Gwendolyn Devole of Lockport, N.Y., Judith Hellums of Crockett, Diana Robinson of Palestine and Jennifer Lively of Longview; brothers, Arnold Coley of Round Rock, Steve Coley, Andrew Coley and Albert Coley, all of Houston.

Irene Mann

Services for Irene Lucille Mann, 83, of Grapeland were at 10 a.m. today at the Missionary Baptist Church in Grapeland with the Revs. Albert Munsinger, David Keith and Bob Goodnight officiating. Burial followed in Grapeland City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.

Mrs. Mann died Sunday night at East  Texas Medical Center in Crockett.

She was born Oct. 18, 1916 in Houston County to Vernon Phillips and Minnie Parker Walling.

Mrs. Mann wasa homemaker and a member of Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, John Lewis and Luther Mann; a brother, Carlton Walling; two stepsisters, Eva Lee Allen Bruce and Callie Sowell; and three stepbrothers, Grady Walling, George E. “Dick” Walling, and Roy Walling.

She is survived by a sister, Mae Belle Fowler of Houston; and a brother, J.R. Walling of Houston.

Pallbearers were Tom Keith, George Bartee, Dick Bridges, Don Hobson and Bob Jones.

Dollie Hunter

Services for Dollie Dimple Hunter, 63, of Fort Worth, formerly of Tennessee Colony, were held at 10 a.m. today at Highland Park Baptist Church in Fort Worth under the direction of Gregory Spencer Funeral Home of Fort Worth. Burial followed in  Jackson Quarter Funeral Home in Tennessee Colony under the direction of Emanuel Funeral of Palestine.

Mrs. Hunter died Thursday, Aug. 17 in Fort Worth.

She was born May 22, 1937, in Tennessee Colony.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by daughter, Marie Smith; brother, C.L. Malone; sisters, Evie Mae Johnson, Sirvella O. Monie; and two grandsons.

Jewel C. Hudson

Services for Jewel C. Hudson, 92, of Austin and formerly of Palestine, will be at noon Wednesday at Grace Temple Church of God in Christ with the Revs. T.J. Crosby and Peterson  White officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hudson died Sunday in Austin.

She was born Jan. 1, 1908, to Rosie and Floyd Crawford Sr. in Anderson County.

Mrs. Hudson attended public schools in the county,  Jones Business School and preparatory nursing classes. In 1923, she married Willie Hudson. She was a member of McDonald Church of God in Christ and Old Town Church of Christ, which later became Grace Temple COGIC. She served on the missionary board and the usher board, taught Sunday school, was president of the Women’s Department and sang in the choir. She traveled extensively attending local, state and national church events.

She was preceded in death by her husband; 11 sisters and brothers; and a son, Clayversa Hudson.

Mrs. Hudson is survived by daughter, Evelyne Cline of Austin; sons, Willie Hudson Jr. and James W. Hudson, both of Palestine; sister, Evelyn Martin of Sacramento,  Calif.; brother, James Crawford Sr. of Palestine; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be A.C. Brisby, James Martin, Wesley Mullin, Dwayne Simpson, Edward Spurlock and Preston  White.

Honorary pallbearers include grandsons, other relatives and friends.

Robert Ellis Busby

Services for Robert Ellis Busby, 66, of Oyster Creek, will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Freeport with Charles Rabon officiating. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at the Neches Cemetery.

Mr. Busby died Monday at Brazosport Memorial Hospital.

He was a longtime resident of the Oyster Creek area and was a graduate of Brazosport High School. He served in the US Navy. He was an operator at Dow Chemical Company for 32 years and also was a supervisor and safety director for Brazos M&E. He was a member of the Freeport Church of Christ.

Mr. Busby was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Abner Busby; his mother, Bernie Lee Ayers Busby; two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Ann Busby of Oyster Creek; children, Laura Ann Bowles of Lake Jackson, Monica Adele Busby of Lafayette, La., Rhonda Elaine Panamaroff of Kodiac, Alaska and Roberta Elizabeth Busby of Bellevue, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Lakewood Chapel.
