Mark Servent

Mark William Servent died peacefully at home on Saturday the 10th of March, 2007, at the age of 55 after a short but valiant struggle with brain cancer with his family at his side. Mr. Servent was born on the 18th of May 1951 in Rhinelander, Wis., to parents Billy Ray Servent and Marilyn Stefonic Servent.

Mr. Servent attended North Dakota State University on a football scholarship and graduated from the University of Madison-Wisconsin in 1974 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education. He was happiest surrounded by his grandchildren, family and friends.

Mr. Servent loved to listen to AM talk radio and one of his favorite things was to discuss politics and try to sway people to his philosophies. He spent his whole life devoted to the care and education of individuals with developmental disabilities. He loved his job at Texana MHMR, first as a vocational coordinator and then as transportation coordinator. He could and would boast that he knew every client and staff by name in all four counties we served. Mr. Servent would greet and share a special moment with every one of them anytime he saw them. Everyone knew and loved him.

Mr. Servent is preceded in death by his mother; sister, Tere; infant son, William John; beloved grandmother, G.G. Adele and Uncle Johnny.

Survivors include his wife and soul mate Kathy Korth Servent; and five devoted children, Tere Elizabeth Masirchin and husband Eric, Taylor William Servent and wife Bobby, Heather Adele Servent, Tara Kaye Krushall and husband Larry, and Tyler Spencer Tushoski and wife Marcie; his grandchildren, Dominic, Ethan, Cole, T.J., Tre, Peighton, Brooklyn, Jada and soon to be born, Tess. He also leaves behind his father, Billy Ray Servent; brother, Jeff Servent and wife Lisa; and sisters, Kim and Jodi Servent; numerous nieces, nephews, with fond memories of his nephew Benny, and lots of cousins, aunts and uncles.

He had nothing but praise for the many wonderful people he worked with at Texana and all the vendors whom kept Texana vehicles up and running; his favorite phrase to them was “These are your tax dollars at work so do it fair and do it right!”

The family expresses extreme gratitude to its many friends and family for their support and love at this time, especially Dorothy Griffin and Carl Webber, whose support and love was invaluable.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home, Thursday, March 15, at 3 pm. Mr. Servent wished to be cremated and his ashes interned at the gravesite of his beloved mother and sister in Sugarcamp, Wis. A second memorial service will be held then.
Once again thank you to everyone and special thanks to Houston-El Campo Hospice, Methodist Hospital, and especially Dr. Cech, his neurosurgeon, whom had bonded with each other in a special way.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Mark W. Servent Fund at First Bank of Wharton, Wharton, TX 77488; or to a charity of personal choice.
