Paubla Reyes
Funeral services for Paubla Limas Reyes, 74, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Reyes died Feb. 20, 2003 in Wharton following an extended illness.
Alice Sims
Funeral services for Alice Mae Sims, 48, of Eagle Lake will be held at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, at White Cloud Baptist Church with Dr. O. Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Borkins Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.
Ms. Sims died at Feb. 16, 2003, at Heritage House. She was born June 14, 1954, in Eagle Lake to L.C. Sims Sr. and Mae Bell Frazier Sims.
Survivors include daughter, La Cretia Sims of Eagle Lake; brothers, L.C. Sims Jr. of Eagle Lake, Commie Sims of Matthews, John Henry Sims of Columbus, Leonard Sims of Eagle Lake and Steve Sims of Matthews; sisters, Mary Bell Cook of Egypt, Jacqueline Shelton of Sand Ridge and Kathy Sims of Wharton; and two grandchildren.
Clayrine Brown
Dr. Clayrine Morgan Brown, 57, of Sour Lake, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at her residence. Born Aug. 18, 1945, in Kingsville, Dr. Brown had been a resident of the area since 1996. A teacher for 36 years, she was presently teaching Life Skills at West Brook High School with the Beaumont Independent School District. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening and reading.
Her mother, Erma Katherine Buttrill Morgan Fox and her step-father, Cecil A. Fox, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, David Charles Brown of Sour Lake; daughters, Heggie Coulter and her husband Chad of Orange and Happiness Krause and her husband Will of Kingsville; son, Chip Brown of Sour Lake; sister, Maggie Ann Huezel and her husband Earl of Stephens Point, Wis.; grandchildren, Cole Coulter and Coby Coulter; and cousin, Kathelyn Williamson of Arlington.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Broussard’s Mortuary, 1605 N. Major Drive, in Beaumont.

Clemon Hearn
Funeral services for Clemon Hearn, 68, of Spanish Camp will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Sand Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. A.C. Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Hearn died June 21, 2003, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born June 30, 1934, in Egypt, to Earnest and Viola Brooks Hearn Sr.
Survivors include wife, Marion Bryant Hearn of Spanish Camp; daughters, Clara Jeanette Bluntson of Hungerford, Clarice Ward of Bay City and Mary Walker of Wharton; brothers, Earnest Hearn Jr. of Texas City, Richard Hearn of Illinois and Roosevelt Hearn of Eagle Lake; sisters, Georgia Lee Johnson and Mary Hearn, both of Illinois, Brenda Brown of Texas City and Doris Patterson of Houston; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Frank Maerz
Frank Lloyd “Jiggs” Maerz, age 85, of Wharton, died Friday, June 20, 2003, in Wharton following a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 5, 1917, in Crescent, the son the late Frank Joe Maerz and Elizabeth Reitz Maerz.
Mr. Maerz had been a resident of Wharton since 1966 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. He was a graduate of Loyola University and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Air Corps for 22 years and retired in 1962. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a carrier fighter plane pilot and was a member of the Black Sheep Squadron. He also served in the South Pacific in the Solomon and Ryukyu Islands. He married Marion Kleas on Sept. 20, 1943, in Wharton. He was a former Veterans Service Officer for Wharton County. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 87 in Wharton and the VFW. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
A rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, at Holy Family Catholic Church and was followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. with Rev. Joe Vrana officiating. Burial was in the Wharton City Cemetery with military Graveside Honors provided by American Legion Post No. 87.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Maerz of Wharton; brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Doris Kleas of Wharton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Frank Boyd Maerz, and a sister, Linnie Francis Matzke.
Pallbearers were Robert Kleas, Glenn Kleas, Kenneth Rachunek, Jim Jett, Joe Matzke and Travis Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were all of his many close friends, neighbors, nieces, nephews and golfing buddies.
In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, Texas 77488.
Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
Marjorie Wynn
Funeral services for Marjorie Reese Wynn, 92, of Tehuacana, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at First United Methodist Church in Tehuacana with Rev. Brad Brittain, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Billy Don Roberts, pastor of First Baptist Church in Tehuacana. Burial follows in Tehuacana Cemetery.
Mrs. Wynn was born March 13, 1911, in Tehuacana, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Reese. Mr. and Mrs. William Reese, her grandparents, were early settlers of Tehuacana. Her grandfather was a stone mason and was instrumental in constructing Westminster College. She married Sam Wynn. Mrs. Wynn returned to Tehuacana in 1993 and was a graduate of Texas Women’s University and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tehuacana.
Survivors include sons, Sam G. Wynn Jr. of Dallas, John T. Wynn of Egypt and William Reese Wynn of Mexia; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Joel Ballejo
Joel Ballejo, age 49, of Wharton, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was born on Feb. 27, 1954, in Wharton, the son of Magdaleno and Martina Garcia Ballejo Jr.
Mr. Ballejo graduated from Wharton High School in 1972. He owned and operated Ballejo Tire Repair in Wharton, worked as a life insurance agent for Southern Life & Health and was currently working as a postal carrier for the Rosharon Post Office. He was a lifelong resident of Wharton and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He volunteered as a tutor for middle school students.
Funeral mass was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park. Rosary services were held at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Resendez of Wharton; mother, Martina Ballejo of Wharton; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Renee and Eduardo Hernandez Jr. of Richmond; step-son, Martin Julian Gutierrez Jr. of Wharton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gloria and Jimmy Danas of Wharton, Martina and Alejandro Garcia of Wharton and Patsy and Henry Guzman of Wharton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe Louis and Mary Ballejo of Wharton and Magdaleno and Angie Ballejo III; and grandchildren, Caitlin Grace Hernandez, Merlinda Rae Gutierrez, Joel Anthony Gutierrez and Martin Julian Gutierrez III. He was preceded in death by his father, Magdaleno Ballejo Jr.

Frances Bedynek
Frances Emily Krenek Bedynek, age 89, of Wharton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at her residence. She was born Dec. 3, 1913, in Hungerford, the daughter of the late John and Mary Matilda Bartos Krenek.
She married Stanley Bedynek in 1933 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1974. She worked for Louis Western Wear, Oshman’s and helped in her husband’s shop, Stanley Body Works. She was a faithful and long standing member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She was a loving mother who enjoyed raising flowers, gardening and making kolaches for her family.
A Catholic Daughter’s rosary was recited Monday, Aug. 25, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. The rosary was followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Stanley Bedynek Jr. of Wharton; daughters and son-in-law, Georgia Crawford of Wharton and Mary Ann and Chuck Brown of Gilmer; sisters, Agnes Spurr, Mary Borak and Martha Welfel, all of Wharton and Helen Miller of Houston; brother, Joe Krenek of Wharton; grandchildren, Chris Brown, Greg Brown, Randy Crawford, Cindy Montijo, Shirley Morrison, Robert Bedynek Jr., David Bedynek, Michael Bedynek, Matthew Bedynek and Annette Wollert; and 16 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bedynek.
Pallbearers were Chris Brown, Greg Brown, David Bedynek, Matthew Bedynek, Michael Bedynek and John Morrison.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy Crawford and Ruben Montijo.

Leona Kocurek
Leona Socha Kocurek, 95, of Bay City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003. She was born Oct. 27, 1907, in Taiton, to Adolph Donald Socha and Beatrice Amanda Chambless Socha.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and a resident of Bay City since 1982.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Vera F. Clements and Flo Gentry Dreher of Bay City and Thelma Gelber and husband Henry of Wharton; by her sisters, Louise Pointer of Bay City, Velma Clements of Santa Fe, Lillian Graham of Bay City and Jane Wendt of Sargent; by her grandchildren, George L. Clements Jr. of Victoria, Jimmy Shawler of Houston, Mary Katherine Alexander of Yorktown, Connie Clements of Pearland, Robb Gentry of Houston, Denise Christesen of Houston, Mickey Gelber of Wharton and Suzanne Martinez of Wharton; and by 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Frank Kocurek; a daughter, Ruby Lucille Shawler; by her parents, Adolph D. and Beatrice Amanda Socha; and by her grandson, Lee Frank Gentry.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
Pallbearers were Mickey Gelber, Robb Gentry, George Clements Sr., Clayton Alexander, Matthew Martinez, Ryne Christesen and Preston Russell Christesen.

John Lindberg
Funeral services for John William “Bill” Lindberg, 96, of Edna, were held Tuesday at Slavik Funeral Home in Edna with Rev. Gary Covin officiating. Burial followed in Memory Garden Cemetery in Edna.
Mr. Lindberg died Aug. 23, 2003. He was born Aug. 24, 1906, in Port Lavaca to the late Clarence John and Luna Vaughn Dedmon Lindberg.
He was a retired self-employed contractor. Mr. Lindberg married Imogene Rexroad in Fort Stockton and she preceded him in death on July 11, 1999. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Edna.
Survivors include daughters, Billie Gene Webernick of Edna, Melba Lucille Lindberg of Denver, Colo., and Katherine Regina Tucker of El Campo; son, Myrvle Lon Lindberg of Edna; sister, Melba Passmore of Alvin; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Arthur Lindberg; and two sisters, Luna Lucille Lindberg and Corene Schultz.
Milton Mazel
Funeral services for Milton Mazel, 83, of Wharton, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mr. Mazel died Aug. 26, 2003, in Wharton.
Ferdinand Siegel
Funeral services for Ferdinand John “Fred” Siegel, 80, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner with Rev. Robert Knippenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner.
Mr. Siegel died Aug. 24, 2003. He was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Shiner to the late Jerome and Agnes Svatek Siegel.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Siegel worked in auto parts sales and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 87 and a life member of VFW Post No. 4474.
Survivors include wife, Dorothy Fojt Siegel of Wharton; daughter, Suzanne Russell of San Antonio; sons, Ferdinand Siegel II of Victoria and Paul Siegel of Lane City; brother, Charlie Siegel of Gonzales; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, John Siegel, Benjamin Siegel and Laddie Siegel.

James Smith
Funeral services for James “Jimmy” Lincoln Smith, 86, of Wharton, were held Tuesday at Wharton Funeral Home with Dr. Joseph Cordero officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Aug. 21, 2003, in a nursing home in Bay City. He was born on Feb. 12, 1917, in El Campo, the son of the late James Clinton and Bertha Reber Smith.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a master sergeant. He served as a ground crew chief over mechanics on B-17 bombers and received a distinguished unit badge with oak leaf cluster, bronze star medal, European theater ribbon and six bronze stars. He married Louise Kennedy on Dec. 29, 1941. He worked as a mechanical assembler and recorder specialist for Schlumberger in Wharton and Houston prior to retiring in 1982. He had been a resident of Wharton since 1931 and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Smith of Wharton; sisters, Kathryn Howerton of Texas City and Freda Brauwholz of Edna; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Laura Sinclair, and brothers, Edwin Smith, Stanley Smith and Homer Smith.
