Jack Koenig
Funeral services for Jack A. Koenig, 73, of Wharton, were held Tuesday at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo with Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Koenig died Feb. 22, 2003. He was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Lolita to the late A.W. and Ruby Koenig.
He was retired from Union Carbide.
Survivors include wife, Irmgard Linda Koenig of Wharton; daughter, Cheryl Byrd of Mission; son, Robert Koenig of Wharton; sisters, Ruth Tucker of Louise and Shirley Rhoades of Bay City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Betty Selcer
Funeral services for Betty Selcer, 85, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Selcer died Feb. 25, 2003, in Wharton following an extended illness.
Paubla Reyes
Paubla “Pauline” Limas Reyes, age 74, of Wharton, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at her residence in Wharton following an extended illness. She was born on June 22, 1928 in Glen Flora, the daughter of the late Augusten Limas and Julia Mungia Limas.
Mrs. Reyes married Felix Reyes on Sept. 18, 1948, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. She was a lifelong resident of Wharton County and a member of our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She was a loving mother who dedicated her life to caring for her family.
A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary services were held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home.
Survivors include husband, Felix Reyes of Wharton; daughters and son-in-law, Gloria Reyes and husband, John Ball of Chicago, Ill., Mary Munoz of Bryan and Sandy Reyes of Wharton; sons and daughters-in-law, Juan and Florence Reyes of Wharton and Felix and Diana Reyes Jr. of El Campo; sisters, Julia Trevino of El Campo and Jovita Ochoa of Galveston; brother, Pedro Ramirez of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Joe Munoz Jr., Michael Guevara, Keith Kucera, Juan Reyes Jr., Lonnie Winston and Thomas Romero.

Alma Hodge
Alma Ruth Hodge, age 89, of Wharton, died Friday April 25, 2003, in Wharton. She was born on Oct. 18, 1913, in Hot Coffee, Covington County, Miss., the daughter of the late Wayne Simmons McGilvray and Etta Vashti Robertson McGilvray.
Mrs. Hodge was a former resident of Newgulf and Pledger before moving to Wharton in 1964. She married George W. Hodge Sr. on Jan. 26, 1935, in Newgulf. Mrs. Hodge was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wharton. She also served her church in many capacities including being a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, Women’s Society, and chairman of the benevolence committee. She was a 27-year volunteer with Cartwheel Lodge and Wharton Manor Nursing Homes. She was a former member of the Wharton Garden Club, sewing club, 42 club and was a former Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Thomasson officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, George W. Hodge Sr. of Wharton; daughters, Mary Ruth Koonce and husband, Allen of Portland, Margie Hurta of Wharton and Etta Mayfield and husband Alec of Wharton; son, George W. Hodge Jr. and wife, Jackie, of Wharton; brother, Gaylon Wayne McGilvray and wife, Frances, of Smithville; sister-in-law, Dorothy McGilvray; grandchildren, Becky Ruth Koonce-Meyer, Nancy Gail Humberson, Lori Ann Dawson, Sharon Johnson, Terri Lynn Hutchins, Jeanne Smith, Sandy Williams, Ronald Barker, Steven Barker, David Mark Koonce, Keith Barker, Brent Barker, Wayne Hodge and Sammy Hodge; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Alec Mayfield, Allen Koonce, Gene Barker, Verlie and Helen Sherrill, Roger and Joyce Spring, Doc and Pat Blakely, Charlie and Flo Kielman and her many friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters, four brothers and one grandchild.

Isidoro Zepeda
Memorial services for Isidoro “Freddie” Zepeda, 52, of Bay City, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bay City with Bishop Homer officiating.
Mr. Zepeda died April 26, 2003, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 23, 1950, in Fort Lupton, Colo., to Austin and Ramona Lema Zepeda.
He married the former Lynda Lemus on July 25, 1997. Mr. Zepeda was a 15-year resident of Bay City and he worked as a plumber. He belonged to the Sheriff’s Association and was a member of Plumbers Union No. 68. Mr. Zepeda was Mormon by faith.
Survivors include wife, Lynda Lemus Zepeda; daughters, Cynthia Verlarde, Denise Cendos and Michelle Castillo; sons, Jesus Pattan, Michael Charles Zepeda and Isidoro Zepeda Jr.; sisters, Juanita O’Neil, Belinda Cortez and Dianne Zepeda; brothers, Augustine Zepeda, David Zepeda, Sergio Zepeda and Gustavo Zepeda; and 16 grandchildren.

Clayrine Brown
Dr. Clayrine Morgan Brown, 57, of Sour Lake, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at her residence. Born Aug. 18, 1945, in Kingsville, Dr. Brown had been a resident of the area since 1996. A teacher for 36 years, she was presently teaching Life Skills at West Brook High School with the Beaumont Independent School District. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening and reading.
Her mother, Erma Katherine Buttrill Morgan Fox and her step-father, Cecil A. Fox, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, David Charles Brown of Sour Lake; daughters, Heggie Coulter and her husband Chad of Orange and Happiness Krause and her husband Will of Kingsville; son, Chip Brown of Sour Lake; sister, Maggie Ann Huezel and her husband Earl of Stephens Point, Wis.; grandchildren, Cole Coulter and Coby Coulter; and cousin, Kathelyn Williamson of Arlington.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Broussard’s Mortuary, 1605 N. Major Drive, in Beaumont.

Clemon Hearn
Funeral services for Clemon Hearn, 68, of Spanish Camp will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Sand Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. A.C. Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Hearn died June 21, 2003, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born June 30, 1934, in Egypt, to Earnest and Viola Brooks Hearn Sr.
Survivors include wife, Marion Bryant Hearn of Spanish Camp; daughters, Clara Jeanette Bluntson of Hungerford, Clarice Ward of Bay City and Mary Walker of Wharton; brothers, Earnest Hearn Jr. of Texas City, Richard Hearn of Illinois and Roosevelt Hearn of Eagle Lake; sisters, Georgia Lee Johnson and Mary Hearn, both of Illinois, Brenda Brown of Texas City and Doris Patterson of Houston; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Frank Maerz
Frank Lloyd “Jiggs” Maerz, age 85, of Wharton, died Friday, June 20, 2003, in Wharton following a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 5, 1917, in Crescent, the son the late Frank Joe Maerz and Elizabeth Reitz Maerz.
Mr. Maerz had been a resident of Wharton since 1966 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. He was a graduate of Loyola University and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Air Corps for 22 years and retired in 1962. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a carrier fighter plane pilot and was a member of the Black Sheep Squadron. He also served in the South Pacific in the Solomon and Ryukyu Islands. He married Marion Kleas on Sept. 20, 1943, in Wharton. He was a former Veterans Service Officer for Wharton County. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 87 in Wharton and the VFW. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
A rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, at Holy Family Catholic Church and was followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. with Rev. Joe Vrana officiating. Burial was in the Wharton City Cemetery with military Graveside Honors provided by American Legion Post No. 87.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Maerz of Wharton; brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Doris Kleas of Wharton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Frank Boyd Maerz, and a sister, Linnie Francis Matzke.
Pallbearers were Robert Kleas, Glenn Kleas, Kenneth Rachunek, Jim Jett, Joe Matzke and Travis Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were all of his many close friends, neighbors, nieces, nephews and golfing buddies.
In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, Texas 77488.

Marjorie Wynn
Funeral services for Marjorie Reese Wynn, 92, of Tehuacana, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at First United Methodist Church in Tehuacana with Rev. Brad Brittain, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Billy Don Roberts, pastor of First Baptist Church in Tehuacana. Burial follows in Tehuacana Cemetery.
Mrs. Wynn was born March 13, 1911, in Tehuacana, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Reese. Mr. and Mrs. William Reese, her grandparents, were early settlers of Tehuacana. Her grandfather was a stone mason and was instrumental in constructing Westminster College. She married Sam Wynn. Mrs. Wynn returned to Tehuacana in 1993 and was a graduate of Texas Women’s University and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tehuacana.
Survivors include sons, Sam G. Wynn Jr. of Dallas, John T. Wynn of Egypt and William Reese Wynn of Mexia; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Fannie Armstrong
Funeral services for Fannie Armstrong, 101, of Hungerford, will be held at noon Thursday at Mount Scilla Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Spradley officiating. Burial will follow in Boones Bend Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Pierce Boone Funeral Home.
Mrs. Armstrong died Oct. 31, 2003, at Avalon Place. She was born Sept. 17, 1902, in Wharton to Dan and Fannie Jackson Moore.
She spent her life as a homemaker. Mrs. Armstrong was preceded in death by her husband, Wayman Armstrong, on Dec. 2, 1992.
Survivors are Mary Lee Kimble, Emma Calhoun, Namon Armstrong Sr. and Dorris Stevens, all of Wharton; Rebecca Dickerson of Hungerford; Ann and Henry Williams and Hayward Armstrong, all of Richmond; Lola Autrey, Leona White, Fannie Mae White, Jim White, Rufus White and Eddie White, all of Houston; special great-nephew and spouse, Dr. Dennis and Shirley Edwards of Omaha, Neb.; Dennis D. Edwards of Omaha, Neb., Dave Armstrong of Kendleton, Dan Moore of Bay City, Austin Moore of Fort Worth, Novella and Sam White of Cleveland, Ohio; and special friend, Perry Kearn of East Bernard and his late spouse, Rose.
Edward Rachunek
Edward Adolph Rachunek, age 70, of Wharton died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 in at Gulf Coast Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born on Oct. 13, 1933, in Hungerford, the son of the late Frank W. Rachunek and Mary Mikel Rachunek. A brother, Anton Rachunek and two sisters, Mary Andel and Leona Vasek Clemmons, also preceded him in death.
He attended school in Hungerford and graduated from Wharton High School in 1950 and then attended Wharton County Junior College. Mr. Rachunek married Dolores Drymala on Oct. 17, 1953, in Rosenberg. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1956 and served two years in Baltimore, Md., and obtained the rank of Sargent 1st. Class. Mr. Rachunek then served four years in the Army Reserve. He received the Good Conduct Medal along with his honorable discharge in 1962. Upon completing his military obligation, he was a farmer and cattleman. Mr. Rachunek later became a supervisor for Brown Oil Field Construction in Bay City and upon retiring there, worked as a sales representative for the National Motor Club. He was also a crop surveyor for the United States Department of Agriculture until his illness.
He was well known for his auctioneering abilities, having volunteered his services for 53 years for various church bazaars and fund-raisers. Mr. Rachunek loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, the Knights of Columbus and was a KC 4th Degree.
A rosary was recited Sunday evening at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford. A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rachunek officiating. Burial followed in the St. John’s Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Rachunek of Wharton; daughter and son-in-law; Jackie and Larry Douglas of Wharton; granddaughters, Cindy, Candice, Lauren and Katelyn Douglas, all of Wharton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara Kostka of Wharton, Ollie and Emil Faltisek of Lake Jackson, Adella and Bennie Morris of Wharton; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rachunek of Wharton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Henry Rachunek of Hungerford, Ben Rachunek of Brazoria, Frank and Dorothy Rachunek of Wharton, Richard and JoAnn Rachunek of Angleton, Adolph and Edith Rachunek of Wharton; brothers-in-law, Adolph Andel of Boling and Steve Vasek of Wadsworth. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Pallbearers were Bill Kostka, Anthony Rachunek, Allen Ray Rachunek, Tim Faltisek, Pat Andel, Ricky Rachunek, Steve Vasek, Joseph Rachunek and Doug Rachunek.

Adolph Andel
Adolph Sylvester Andel, age 80, of Boling, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, in Wharton, following a sudden illness. He was born on April 21, 1924, in East Bernard, the son of the late Vincil and Julia Scotka Andel.
Mr. Andel was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Air Force. He married Mary C. Rachunek on Nov. 9, 1948, in Hungerford. She preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 1975. Mr. Andel worked as a plant manager for Maxim Egg Farm prior to retiring in 1996. He was a former resident of Wharton and had lived in Boling since 1970. Mr. Andel was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boling. He loved fishing, farming and watching the Astros play baseball. He was a loving father and would do anything for anybody at the drop of a hat.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today, Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rachunek officiating. Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at St. John’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen Heintschel of Pledger, Brenda Andel of Wharton and Kimberly Wiesner of El Campo; sons and daughters-in-law, Adolph Danny and Kathy Andel of Boling, Patrick and Linda Andel of Magnet, Myron and Joan Andel of Wharton and Darryl Andel of Pledger; sisters, Martha Janik of East Bernard and Bernice Janik of East Bernard; brothers, Edmund Andel of Austin and Daniel Andel of Clute; grandchildren, Greg Chumchal, Denette Snyder, Dustin Heintschel, Jasen Andel, April Andel, Amy Andel, Tami Andel, Kristin Nuspliger, Kayla Nuspliger, Nichole Gutierrez, Jacob Wiesner and Shelby Wiesner and great-grandchildren, Baylie Snyder, Dylan Snyder, Gage Chumchal, Demonte Ragston, Alicia Ragston, Larya Ragston and Melanie Martinez. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Pallbearers were Buddy Oldag, Jasen Andel, Dustin Heintschel, Greg Chumchal, Gary Gajewsky and Bob Shimek.
Honorary pallbearers were all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
