Carolyn Ann Ryden
Nov. 4, 1939 — Jan. 28, 2001

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Services for Carolyn Ann Ryden, 61, of Broken Arrow are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Arrow Heights Baptist Church in Broken Arrow.

The Rev. Bob Green will officiate. Services will also be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Stephenville, Texas, with the Revs. Dan Murray and Richard Grant officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery in Stephenville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home in Broken Arrow.

Mrs. Ryden died Sunday at St. Francis at Broken Arrow.

She was born in Bryan and lived in Broken Arrow for nine years. She graduated from Bryan High School in 1958. She formerly lived in Stephenville and was a State Farm insurance agency secretary and also had her real estate license. She was a member of Arrow Heights Baptist Church, where she was in the Christian Women’s Association and the sanctuary choir.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Ryden of Broken Arrow; three sons and daughters-in-law, Clay and Brenda Ryden of Lancaster, Texas, Tod and Elaine Ryden of Sweetwater, Texas, and Michael and Angie Ryden of Leander, Texas; a brother, Amon Clyde Ryan; and a grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Women’s Association, Stonecroft Ministries, P.O. Box 9609, Kansas City, Mo. 64134 or to the American Cancer Society, 6440 S. Lewis, Suite 100, Tulsa, Okla. 74136.

Kyle Ray Toomer
Jan. 23, 1972 — Jan. 28, 2001

Services for Kyle Ray Toomer, 29, of Austin and formerly of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Bob Leslie will officiate. Burial will be in Kurten Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Toomer died Sunday in Houston.

He was born in Bryan and lived in Bryan for most of his life. He was a manager for Interstate Battery Distribution in the Austin metro area.

Survivors include his wife, Tessa Toomer of Austin; a son, Tanner Toomer of Austin; his mother, Mary Toomer of Bryan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith and Susan Toomer and Darrel and Connie Toomer, all of Bryan; a sister and brother-in-law, Kendel and Evan Vestal of Bryan; his grandfather, J.C. Toomer of College Station; his in-laws, Larry and Charlene Young of Bryan; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Craig and Judy Young and Brent and Tamra Young, all of Bryan; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.

Joe P. Morgan
Jan. 30, 1923 — Jan. 29, 2001

TYLER — A memorial service for Joe P. Morgan, 77, of Tyler is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Tyler. Father Joe Strickland will officiate. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Brenham.

A rosary will be recited and visitation is set from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lloyd James Funeral home Chapel in Tyler.

Mr. Morgan died Monday.

He was born in Lovelady, Texas. Mr. Morgan attended the University of Houston. He served in World War II. He was instrumental in opening the Levi Strauss factory in Tyler and was the former owner of several retail businesses in East Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth; three daughters, Pamela Campbell of Tyler, Patsy (Morgan) Taylor of Dallas, Paula Wright of College Station; nine grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

Roosevelt Luckey
July 5, 1931 — Jan. 24, 2001

Services for Roosevelt Luckey, 69, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Lily of the Valley Church of God in Christ in Bryan. Superintendent Maurice Green Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Vistation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Luckey died Wednesday at his home in Bryan.

He was born in Brazos County. He was a television repairman. He graduated from Kemp High School in 1949 and attended Prairie View A&M University. He was an instructor at Prairie View in electronics.

Mr. Luckey was a Baptist.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Earline Luckey Walton and Marvin Walton of Bryan.

Elsie Leiber Cummins
Sept. 1, 1922 — Jan. 28, 2001

ANDERSON — Services for Elsie Leiber Cummins, 78, of Anderson are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Anderson. The Rev. Daniel Schoessow will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mrs. Cummins died Sunday in Anderson.

She was a lifelong resident of Anderson. She was a bookkeeper at First National Bank in Navasota, a member of Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, VFW Post #4006 Ladies Auxiliary in Navasota, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Anderson. She was a receptionist for Grimes County Law Enforcement Center and a member of Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lonnie Pistler and her husband, Cecil Cummons.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Laura Pistler of Anderson; her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Hershel Perry Jr. of Anderson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Karen Leiber of Friendswood, Ernest and Lillian Hintz of Austin; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Leiber Schulze of Bryan; her sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Cicero Allen of Anderson; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Anderson or the American Heart Association.

Mary E. Jacobs
Dec. 30, 1927 — Jan. 28, 2001

MAGNOLIA — Services for Mary E. Jacobs, 73, of Magnolia are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Magnolia. The Rev. Frank Jones will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in Houston National Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church.

A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthias Catholic Church.

Mrs. Jacobs died Sunday.

She was born in Harvey, Ill. She was the director of the Home Owners Association, a member of the Catholic Daughters, Golden Rodd, CCE Teacher, and Volunteer Family Out Reach.

Mrs. Jacobs was a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, James F. Jacobs of Magnolia; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard Morra of Davenport, Iowa, Kenneth and Peggy Morra of Galveston, Christopher and Mia Morra of Fishkill, N.Y., Gregory and Joy Morra of Eutica, N.Y.; two daughters, Suzanna McEwan of Tomball, and Mary Ellen Carroll of Davenport, Iowa; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Judy Kerkhaven of Blue Grass, Iowa, and Robert and Ursala Kerkhaven of Homewood, Ill.; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Helen Kellmer of Clearwater, Fla., Joan Grantham of Santa Maria, Calif., Gerry and Donald Manley of Davenport, Margaret and Raymond Reidy Smith of Moline, Ill., and Betty Hayes of Adelphi, Md.; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Jerry E. Slovacek
Oct. 14, 1906 — Jan. 30, 2001

SNOOK — Services for Jerry E. Slovacek, 94, of Snook are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Snook Brethren Church in Snook. The Rev. Joseph Polacek and Rev. Henry Beseda will officiate. Burial will be in Snook Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family present and from 9 a.m. Thursday until noon at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

Mr. Slovacek died Tuesday in a Bryan hospital.

He was born in Snook. He was a farmer and rancher and served as the barber in the Snook area for more than 45 years. He was a member of the Snook Brethren Church and S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #9 in Snook. He was awarded the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award of Burleson County in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Slovacek.

Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Jimmy Riddle of Snook, and Alice and Jerry Towne of Snook; his sisters, Minnie Petruy of Georgetown, Texas, Libbie Collins of Snook and Betty Bravanec of Houston; and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to Snook Brethren Church.

Ira Hilley
Aug. 3, 1927 — Jan. 29, 2001

MARLIN — Services for Ira Hilley, 73, of Marlin are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota. The Rev. Ross Poteet of First United Methodist Church in Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Mr. Hilley died Monday.

He was born in Anderson. He retired from the Exxon plant where he was a manager. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hilley served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Hilley of Marlin; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debra and James Dyer of Keller and Deborah Hilley of Marlin; one brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Dorothy Hilley of Navasota; three sisters, Esther Hilley of Navasota, Adline Brocksmidth of Kingwood, and Gertrude Hilley of Nederland, Texas; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mozelle I. Rohmerts
Aug. 12, 1915 - Jan. 29, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Mozelle I. Rohmerts, 85, of Navasota are set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota. Dr. J.W.L. Adams, retired Baptist minister, and the Rev. Jim Stevens of First Baptist Church in Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with the family present at Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Rohmerts died Monday.

She was born in Somerville. She was a retired hair dresser. She was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Rohmerts.

Survivors include her brother, A.A. “Andy” Inglehart of Houston; a sister-in-law, Pauline Inglehart of Houston; her sister and brother-in-law, Jo Lynn and Richard Foote of Navasota; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Navasota Library, Brazos Valley Hospice or American Cancer Society.

Leona P. Neely
Feb. 5, 1906 — Jan. 29, 2001

Graveside services for Leona P. Neely, 94, of Bryan, and formerly of Hearne, are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Plantersville Cemetery. The retired Rev. Tal Mincey will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Neely died Monday.

She was born in Lott, Texas. She was a school teacher. She was a former young ladies Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Hearne where she was also a member.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Hunter Neely.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Travis Porter and Mary Neely of San Juan, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Jo Neely Colby and her husband, Richard of Bryan; and five grandchildren.

William ‘Jeff’ McMurry
Aug. 20, 1928 — Jan. 26, 2001

Services for William “Jeff” McMurry, 72, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Benchley, Texas. The Rev. U.L. Green of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Walker Settlement.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at People’s Mortuary.

Mr. McMurry died Firday.

He was born in Wheelock in Robertson County. He served three years in the United States Army.

Survivors include his special friend, Novella Garrison of Bryan; two sons, Stacy and William Garrison, both of Bryan; two stepsons, Lee Edward and Michael Garrison, both of Bryan; one daughter, Tracy Dickson of Dallas; one brother, Douglas McMurry of Bryan; one sister, Ruthie Littlejohn of Bryan; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
