Burnice Sanders
June 19, 1930 — Dec. 31, 2000

FRANKLIN — Services for Burnice Sanders, 70, of Franklin are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Franklin.

Jim Manning will officiate, with Carl Whitworth and Jimmy Sanders assisting. Burial will be in Henry Prairie Cemetery in Robertson County.

Visitation will be form 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m., at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. Sanders died Sunday in Franklin.

He was born in Robertson County and lived in Franklin since 1981. He formerly lived 35 years in Houston. He was retired as maintenance supervisor for Lone Star Concrete.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Franklin and was past vice president of the Trias Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Lois Sanders.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Sanders of Franklin; a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Fred Roberts of Nacogdoches, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Lisa Sanders of Houston and Joel and Janet Dyess of Pasadena, Texas; two sisters, Effie Congleton of Hearne and Ruby Graham of Franklin; a brother, Leslie “Jack” Sanders of Franklin; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Trias Foundation.

Mary Caroline Vela
Nov. 25, 1968 — Dec. 30, 2000

SOMERVILLE — Services for Mary Caroline Vela, 32, of Somerville are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Somerville.

The Rev. Sunny Sebastian will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vela died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Houston and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Antonio Negrete Jr. of Somerville; a son, Antonio Negrete III of Somerville; two daughters, Jessica Nicole Negrete and Ashley Marie Negrete, both of Somerville; six brothers, Juan Vela Jr. of Carmine, Joe Vela, Jessie Vela, Willie Vela and David Vela, all of Somerville, and Victor Vela of Houston; and a sister, Mary Jane Deleon of Somerville.

James R. Kluth
Oct. 1, 1928 — Jan. 1, 2001

ATHENS, Texas — Services for James R. Kluth, 72, of Athens are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dogwood Baptist Church in Athens. The Rev. Rick Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Foster and Brown Funeral Home.

Mr. Kluth died Monday in Athens.

He was born in Anderson County, Texas. He served in the Army National Guard for 37 years. He worked at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department for several years. He was a reserve peace officer for the Athens Police Department, a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite Temple Valley of Dallas. Mr. Kluth was past master of the Adam Royder Lodge in Wellborn and a member of the Mason Lodge in Bryan.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Kluth of Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, Kurtis and Judy Kluth of Pflugerville, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Jimmy Brown of Tatum, Texas, Sherry and Larry LoBello of Athens, and Judy and Richard Henderson of Athens; a brother, Johnny Kluth of Palestine, Texas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Athens Masonic Lodge #165 building fund or the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas.

Effie Kor
Jan. 1, 1906 — Jan. 1, 2001

HEARNE — Services for Effie Kor, 95, of Hearne, formerly of College Station, are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. The Rev. Dean Wilhelm of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in College Station Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kor died Monday at Hearne Health Care Center.

She was born in Lockhart, Texas, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Kor.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Margie Kor of Grandbury, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jack Rutkowski of College Station; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Building Fund, 2541 Texas 6, College Station, Texas 77845.

Nancy Karen Terry
Sept. 26, 1945 — Dec. 31, 2000

BRENHAM — Graveside services for Nancy Karen Terry, 55, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Chriesman Cemetery near Caldwell. Chaplin Jim Ferguson will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Miss Terry died Sunday in Brenham.

She was born in Cameron and was a member of the Sneed Memorial Methodist Church in Calvert.

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille Terry and Joe Foster of Bryan; and one niece and one nephew.

Ethel Selma McCrory Coffin
Dec. 17, 1913 — Jan. 1, 2001

Graveside services for Ethel Selma McCrory Coffin, 87, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville, Texas. The Rev. Lee Oliver will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Galloway & Sons, Inc. in Beeville.

Mrs. Coffin died Monday in Bryan.

She was born in South Dakota. She lived in South Texas from 1942 to 1992 and then moved to Bryan. She was a volunteer at a local hospital. She was involved with South Texas Helping Hands Ministries and worked with senior citizens in Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Coffin.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and John Copeland of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, P.D. and Linda Coffin of Gonzales, Texas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Ethel Smith Williams
Sept. 25, 1911 — Dec. 30, 2000

A memorial service for Ethel Smith Williams, 89, of Bryan is set for 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Bryan. Rev. Bob Richers and Rev. Harral Dunnam will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Williams died Saturday at St. Joseph Regional Rehabilitation Center in Bryan.

She was born in The Bronx in New York. She was a retired administrative assistant with Brown Brothers Herriman & Co. and the Chappaqua school district. She graduated from New York University. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Business & Professional Women’s Club, Prime Timers Group of First United Methodist Church and supported hand bells and music programs in church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bryan.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Edgar B. Smith and LeRoy H. Williams.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Robert “Bud” Schwart of Bryan; her sister, Dorothea D. Newton of Douglaston, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Juanita J. Duval
July 16, 1916 — Jan. 1, 2001

LEXINGTON, Texas — Services for Juanita J. Duval, 84, of Lexington are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. The Rev. Paul Kethley of St. John’s United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Duval died Monday in the Renaissance Villa Nursing Home in Rockdale.

She was born in Greenville, Texas. She worked 10 years for Montgomery Ward and later helped her husband in his funeral business. She was a member of the Blue Methodist Church in Blue.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ray Duval, Sr.

Survivors include two sons, William Duval Jr. of Huntsville, Ala., Harry Duval of San Francisco; three daughters and sons-in-law, Donya and Wayne Conine of Marble Falls, Sandra Yarbrough and Robert II of Lexington, Carol Greb and Lee III of Houston; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Willie Ann Smith
Jan. 16, 1916 — Dec. 29, 2000

Services for Willie Ann Smith, 84, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Washington Chapel Baptist Church in College Station. The Rev. E.E. Garvin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in College Station Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home; 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Smith died Friday at Colton Inn Health Center in Bryan.

She was a lifetime resident of Bryan. She was a housewife. Mrs. Smith attended Roans Chapel Public School. She was a member of the Washington Chapel Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Missionary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kennard Smith.

Survivors include a niece, Audrey L. Williamson and a nephew, Willie A. Steen, both of College Station; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Washington Chapel Baptist Church.

Effie Kor
Jan. 1, 1906 — Jan. 1, 2001

Robert William LaFollette
April 25, 1919 — Jan. 3, 2001

Services for Robert William LaFollette, 81, of College Station, formerly of Houston, are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan. The Rev. Bruce Wood of Aldersgate United Methodist Church will officiate. A graveside service is set for 3 p.m. Friday at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston.

Mr. LaFollette died Wednesday at College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Ace, Texas. He was a retired insurance salesman.

He served as a staff sargeant in the U.S. Army from 1940-1945. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his son, Sherman Robert LaFollette of College Station; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mack L. Harris
Dec. 15, 1953 — Jan. 1, 2001

EDGE — Services for Mack L. Harris, 47, of Edge are set for 11 a.m. Friday at G.W. Tabernacle Building in Bryan. The Rev. U.L. Green of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Wheelock Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Harris died Monday at College Station Medical Center.He was a lifetime resident of Bryan and was employed by Martin Luther Homes and Texas Home Health. He attended Bryan High School, Oklahoma State University and Prairie View A&M University. He was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Green Harris of Bryan; four sons, Christopher Harris of College Station, Shawn Harris of Austin, Adrian Green Harris and Jeremy Green Harris, both of Bryan; three stepsons, Derrick and Daryl Green, both of Bryan and Bryan Green of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a daughter, Pamela Harris of Austin; a stepdaughter, Tiffany Green of Bryan; two brothers, Arthur Harris Jr. of Austin and George Harris of Edge; five sisters, Mattie Vaughn of Austin, Florence Love of Dallas, Barbara Williams of Dallas, Glenda Mathis of Temple, Texas, and Sherry Harris of College Station; and three grandchildren.
