Eva Pearline Stevenson

MARLIN, TEXAS — Services for Eva Pearline Stevenson, 77, of Calvert are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Magnolia Baptist Church in Calvert.
The Rev. McDowell of the New Magnolia Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Beauty Rest Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Funeral Home in Marlin.
Mrs. Stevenson died Sunday at Bremond Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Stevenson Sr.
Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary Daty of Dallas, Georgia and Donald Baker of Fort Worth, Bernice and Odell Williams and Peggy and Henry Lloyd, all of Calvert; three sons and a daughter-in-law, John Stevenson of Dallas, Robert Stevenson Jr. of Bryan and Timothy and Catherine Stevenson of Calvert; 27 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Myrna A. Dornacher
May 30, 1907 — December 29, 2000
A private family service will be held at a later date for Myrna A. Dornacher, 93, of Bryan. Mrs. Dornacher donated her body to the College of Medicine at Texas A&M University for scientific study. Mrs. Dornacher died Friday, December 29, 2000, at Sherwood Health Care. Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home.
She was born in Altona, Illinois, May 30, 1907. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and spent most of her life in Rock Island, Illinois. She had been a resident of Bryan since 1978, previously living in Waco for five years. She was a former member of the Bryan-College Station Newcomers.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane M. and Frank A. Cotton of Bryan and Gretchen L. and Harry Urell of Alamo, Texas. Also four grandchildren, Jennifer H. Cotton of Bryan, Jane M. Cotton of Fort Worth, Dolores Ivie of Challis, Idaho, and Susan Irvin of Bryceville, Florida. She is also survived by a sister, Ludella Keller of Galesburg, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Peter Dornacher.
Dorothy Wood Liere
Dorothy Wood Liere, age 81, of Bryan passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Bryan, Texas.
Mrs. Liere is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Herbert Liere, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.O. Wood; survived by her sons, Leslie Liere and wife Sue, Richard Liere and wife Sandra; sisters, Beatrice Theriot, Virgle Hawk and Hattie Mae Wood; grandchildren, Victoria Liere and Stacy Liere.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Canon Funeral Home Chapel in Waller, Texas. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Neil Bockelmann officiating. Interment will follow in Addicks Cemetery.
Mayme Lee Gay McDermott
Nov. 1, 1899 — Dec. 19, 2000
Mayme Lee Gay McDermott entered eternal rest Friday, December 19, 2000, at the Rio Grande Regional Hospital at the age of 101.
She was born to Fannie and William Gay on November 1, 1899 in Maud, Texas, and was educated in Bowie County schools. She was married to Thomas William McDermott (deceased) in 1924 and was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Ray McDermott in 1971.
Mayme and Thomas followed a career with Gulf Oil Company until his death in 1949. She then moved to College Station, where she was employed at Texas A&M University until her retirement in 1969.
Mrs. McDermott was active in First Baptist Church of College Station, Eastern Star, Campus Study Club and a Sewing Club. In 1991, she moved to McAllen to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Reba and Wayne Showers, where she was active at the Calvary Baptist Church in the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Mayme enjoyed McAllen and many special friendships.
Mayme is survived by two daughters, Jo and her husband, Dr. Travis McKenzie, of Beaumont; Reba and her husband, Wayne Showers, of McAllen, Texas; seven grandchildren, Sandra Lee McKenzie of Victoria, Texas, Becky Porteous (Stuart) of Houston, Dianna Harper of Houston, Dr. Angela Gay McDermott-Krys (Jeff) of Austin, Travis McDermott (Jackie) of Indonesia, Gay Hargis (Dr. Sam) of McAllen and Brenda Buell (Chris) of Dallas; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Her family cherishes the Christian guidance, loving care and tremendous courage she has shown and taught them through the years. Her life, like her intricate handiwork, is a beautiful blessing.
Funeral services were held December 30, 2000, at 3 p.m. at Kreidler Funeral Home on North 10th Street in McAllen. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Texarkana, Texas, on January 2, 2001.

Jack Lundeen Jones
June 23, 1920 — Dec. 29, 2000
Services for Jack Lundeen Jones, 80, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Bryan.
The Revs. Bob Richers and Harral Dunnam of First United Methodist Church of Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mr. Jones died Friday in Rennesance Villa in Rockdale.
He was born in Kerrville, Texas, and lived in Bryan for 32 years. He was a retired farmer and resource development specialist for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service. He was the first president and charter member of the Kiwana’s Club in Taft, Texas, and was a member of the Taft American Legion. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bryan, where he was an usher, member of the Men’s Bible Class and substitute teacher for the Neighborly Class.
He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the N.A.R.F.E. He held a master’s degree in urban planning from Texas A&M University and was a past staff sports photographer for the Battalion. He served as past secretary and treasurer of the Beautify Texas Council.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jones of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Monica Jones of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Richard Clark of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Jan Hague of Tyler, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bryan or the Alzheimer’s Association and Research.
Julia Ruth Dowdy
Jan. 27, 1912 — Dec. 30, 2000
FRANKLIN — Services for Julia Ruth Dowdy, 87, of Franklin are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Franklin Church of Christ.
James Sterling of Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in West Boone Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.
Miss Dowdy died Saturday at her home.
She was born in Franklin and moved back to Franklin 11 years ago. She had lived in Austin. She graduated from the Breckenridge Hospital of Training in Austin and was a registered nurse. She was a member of the Franklin Church of Christ.
Survivors include six sisters, Nora Lee Swingler and Evelyn Moran, both of Franklin, Myrna Gustason and Verna Hand, both of Desoto, Madeline Swingler of Austin and Pat Kendrick of Farmington, N.M.; two brothers, John Earl Dowdy of Austin and Jack Dowdy of Grand Prairie, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
James V. ‘J.V.’ Starkey
Jan. 14, 1908 — Dec. 28, 2000
FRANKLIN — Services for James V. “J.V.” Starkey, 92, of Franklin are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Baden Baptist Church in New Baden.
Dwain Steinkuehler will officiate. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.
Mr. Starkey died Thursday in Bryan.
He was born in Burnett, Texas, and had lived in Franklin since 1968. He graduated with honors from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in chemistry. His career included teaching, petroleum chemist, Boy Scout executive and superintendent of the New Mexico Boys Ranch. He retired from the Portales, N.M., school system in 1961. He was a member of the New Baden Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was a Woodman of the World, was a member of the Retired Teacher Association and the Rotary Club.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Lois M Snider Starkey and Thelma Arnspiger Starkey.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle Bynum Starkey; two sons, Dr. John H. Starkey of Victoria, Texas, and Robert E. Starkey of El Paso; a daughter, June Starkey Gilbreath of Waco; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
